The Last Dance

He made his way across the smelly old gym,

Past beautiful girls, gorgeous guys,

Eyes on me, he continued to make his way

towards me.

Extending an arm,

he asked me for my hand and a dance.

Smiling, I gave him my hand

without another thought

to dance with my beloved

on this one last night,

this one last dance.

He pulled me onto the dance floor,

smack dab in the middle of the floor.

It felt so right for his arms to be around me

'Cause you know

I love him so much

In his safe arms, I'm warm and loved

My head was buried on his chest

I could feel his heart beat against my head

I could feel his heat where ever he touched me

'Cause you know

I love him so much

But the song ended so soon

As did the night

We went to a senior party

Where the night ended way too soon

Full of life and love

he covered me with his body to protect me

As a car collided with ours.

His arms were still around me

I can still remember him faintly whispering

With blood dripping down his perfect face

'Cause you know

I love him so much

His arms are still around me,

His lips are pressed against my forehead.

He's right here,

But he feels so far.

His last breath was to tell me

that he loved me,

Even though he's smiling,

his body's so cold;

I never want to let him go.

'Cause you know

I love him so much

It's too late for him to come back.

I can't live my life as I planned,

He's left me, he's not around anymore;

I can't ever see him again,

hug or kiss him,

not even see his beautiful smile

or hear his happy laughter.

I can still remember that last dance

With his mouth brushing against my ear

whispering three words over and over again,

His arms tightly wrapped against me,

His warmth kept me from the cold.

'Cause you know

I love him so much
it's unbearable that he's gone.

That last dance,

I never intended to ever let him go.
