Chapter 10: The Search Begins

Author's notes: These next chapters will basically be short stories with each chapter taking place on a different world. With 2 votes for Rising of the Shield hero, I will write this chapter about Legoshi visiting that world.
Legoshi was flying through the void of universe 13, which he was reminded was twice as large as any of the other universes in the cosmos and that he should get started in searching as soon as possible, when he thought of the possibility of revisiting the galaxy that help him obtain Ultra-instinct and the understanding that led him here.
"I could find a possible candidate there…..but if I go back there someone could spy on me and potentially learn how to obtain what I have….. I don't think I should go back there for at least a while in terms of god time." He thought to himself.
Eventually Legoshi decided to just wing in and venture into a part of the universe he had not explored in detail before and land on the first planet that had sapient life on it.
Legoshi halted his flight when he arrived at the first planet that he sensed sapient life on in this unexplored part of the universe. The planet looked like any other garden world that supported a nitrogen/oxygen biosphere, but he could see strange distortions in multiple parts of the planet. They looked like red clouds with blue and green swirls sprinkled into them. Legoshi used his staff to channel his angelic abilities to determine what it was that he was looking at. He saw two worlds in the sphere of the staff. One looked desolate while the other was most likely the planet he was looking at as creatures poured from the desolate planet into this one through what looked like a strange portal.
"So, there are spatial distortions on this planet… you don't see that every day." Legoshi thought curiously to himself.
"Let's see where to start…where to start…. Maybe I should look for the strongest ki signatures first and work my way from that." He thought to himself while leaning forward and rubbing the bottom of his mouth.
This was easier said than done since most of the life on this planet was woefully lacking in power even by mortal standards, although he did sense unusual energy from the planet's populace that took him a bit to recognize.
"So, there are magic users here. It has been a while since I have run into a planet with those… but still, it is very weak magic… although I do have high standards." He thought to himself and chuckled a little bit.
He soon felt three signatures that stood out from the "crowd" and it felt like their life force was being slowly diminished in a way that indicated they were in danger.
"I guess it's as good of a start as any…hope they are friendly at least." He thought as he sped towards the ki signatures in the rainbow aura/stream that angels are known for using during travel.
Meanwhile in the prospective of the "3 ki signatures"
A young adult man, wearing a green cape and steal with leather armor, black hair and a shield strapped to his right arm was knocked violently away by what looked like a huge T-Rex. It had a large X crest like structure on its face like it was wearing a mask, it had dark scales and red eyes and seemed to be taking no damage from the constant assaults it was enduring. A racoon girl with a sword was charging at the beast while a large, sapient bird had finished kicking it in the face to no avail.
This man is Naufomi the shield hero, and he was reading his rage shield when the t-rex instinctively looked up and focused on something quickly approaching them at an alarming rate of speed. Naufomi also looked up to see what the monster was suddenly interested in, but only saw a glimmer before a column of rainbow light had landed in between him and the beast.
Naufomi didn't know what to think at first as a second later the column of light vanished, revealing an anthropomorphic wolf wearing light green and deep blue robes, wielding a strange staff with a bright teal halo around the deep black ball that floated above the top. The staff was gold with silver as the middle of it. The wolf also had a bright teal halo floating around his head and neck.
"Hello!... sorry… did I interrupt something?" The wolf said as it waves at Naufomi.
Naufomi, the raccoon girl Raphtalia, and the big bird Filo were a little stumped and surprised by the sudden and flashy appearance that they didn't react until the monster decided to charge the new guest.
"Look out!" Naufomi shouted at the wolf.
The beast stopped just a few feet from the wolf as if it was suddenly paralyzed and held in place by an invisible force at it fell to the ground.
"Wait your turn please." The wolf said as it slightly turns its head to the right to just barely look at the beast.
Naufomi relaxed a little bit in amazement as he didn't see what the wolf even did to make the beast collapse behind him.
Raphtalia held her sword to her side as she was also amazed and contemplated what she should do.
"O wow!" Filo commented aloud in a surprisingly cheerful voice.
The wolf turned its head back to Naufomi.
"Is that dinosaur behind me a friend of yours?" The wolf sincerely asked.
At first Naufomi dead panned from how stupid the question sounded, but quickly decided to just simply answer.
"No! it's a monster that only know destruction and does not care for what it destroys… I don't think it can even think." He answered.
"Hmm... really?! Well, I guess we can just call this an annoyance then." The wolf calmly said as it casually walked up to the beast and gently tapped it with the back of his pointer finger.
As soon as the wolf's finger touched the head of the beast blew apart into tiny fragments of scales that dissolved into nothing an instant later. There was no blood at all, and the evaporation of the beast made it look like it was made of nothing more than tiny leaves that instantly burnt away into nothing. The wolf turned back around to Naufomi and took a greeting bow with his left hand over his chest.
"Greetings and apologies for destroying your potential gains from defeating that dinosaur. My name is Legoshi…May I know your names?" Legoshi asked.
Back to Legoshi's perspective:
"No, it's fine. Thank you for helping us. My name is Naufomi, the shield hero." Said the black-haired man.
"I'm Raphtalia." The raccoon girl greeted as she walked up to Legoshi and bowed.
"And I'm Filo!" The bird girl answered with a cheer while still in her large bird form.
Legoshi held his staff up and peered into the orb on top that was now glowing a deep green light. Legoshi could see the confusion on their faces as he peered into the staff for half a minute.
"Sorry… I'm just studying this world's relevant information to help shorten my time spent in each search." He said as he looked to each of them before returning his gaze to his staff.
"Searching for what?" Naufomi asked.
"Someone to take my former job….hmmm… it looks like you and 3 other "Heroes" are the only ones of interest on this planet… unless some random person suddenly produces my requirements….*looks up at the group and stares for a moment* sorry… I tend to ramble on and speak out loud when it is unnecessary." Legoshi says while scratching the top of his head in slight embarrassment.
"And what job would that be?... sir." Raphtalia politely asked before Naufomi could ask.
"To become the God of Destruction for this universe… Instead of waiting for someone with the inherent potential, I am actively searching the universe for those who can meet certain requirements of both a potential God of Destruction and some of my own personal ones…Was that a bit too…." heavy" or much at once for you?... am I saying that right?" Legoshi stated matter of factly and inquisitively.
Naufomi and Raphtali were dumbfounded, awed, and stricken with indecision as to how to process what was just told to them. They first thought about whether to believe him or not but decided that there would be no point in lying to them from a complete stranger and especially about something as grand as look for a God.
"What's a God? And a Universe?" Filo asked in a completely innocent tone of voice.
Naufomi was about to answer Filo but was interrupted.
"Let me show you." Legoshi said as he held up his staff.
Several meters around the group was a projection of the location they were currently located that zoomed out to show the planet, then the star system, then galaxy, galaxy cluster, and eventually the universe.
Filo's head had steam coming out of it like her brain had just fried and Raphtalia was having a very hard time imagining the scale of what was being shown to her. Naufomi was impressed by the display and was surprised by the actual size of the universe they were in since he did not think it was that large, though he also had a difficult time imagining the scale of what was shown to him.
"That is the universe and the potential God of Destruction that I am looking for is responsible for the culling the universe of the wasteful and harmful matter in it, whether it be beings, worlds, civilizations or entire galaxies. They are meant to be a force in the universe that balances the force of creation. Does that answer your question?"
Dead silence fell among the group, though Filo was just lying on the floor trying to rebut her brain.
"Why come to this planet of all planets in the universe? And if that was your former job, then what does that make you?" Naufomi eventually asked after a minute of silent contemplation.
"I came here simply by chance is all…and as for what I am… I am an Angel. I would mentor a god of destruction on his abilities and duties as well as martial arts while also being his attendant. Simply put, I am a teacher and caretaker for a destroyer."
"That almost sounds like you would be their parent or older sibling." Raphtalia pointed out.
"Good comparison, but destroyers and their angels do not form that kind of bond with each other… or at least is never seen and treated as such."
Another session of silent contemplation fell over the group.
"How will you test us for compatibility then?" Naufomi questioned a minute later.
"Well, for one I will be judging your character based on how you treat your allies and enemies and everything else in-between. Second, I will not be helping you in your endeavors as that would be interfering with your and the planet's natural growth or decline, which as an angel, I am no longer allowed to do by my own volition. I apologize if that sounds nihilistic, but I also have a lot of other planets to search for potential candidates. If I see that you make my personal qualifications, then I will give you the real determinant test." Legoshi listed.
"… I take it you will not tell us the "determinant" test until you finished your study?" Naufomi asked.
"Yes, though partially because I need to determine a safe way to conduct it since you could be my first candidate test and additionally, I just would like the surprise." Legoshi said with an awkward smile.
"… At least you are honest. Very well, I accept your test so long as you don't get in my or my friends' way." Naufomi conceded after a few moments of staring and blinking.
Legoshi manifests a data pad into his hands with his staff and begins to jot down his notes of observation.
"Well, I can at least start with honesty and bravery as your starting characteristics. Not many would passively threaten a being such as an Angel with that, though this does support your attachments to those close to you… something that I currently don't have." Legoshi commented but whispered the last part to himself.
Naufomi asked what he whispered but Legoshi reassured him that he was muttering to himself and that it did not involve him.
"Bear in mind that I will not be interfering with your endeavors as that would rob you of achievements and strength and as we both can guess that a hero's work is never truly done and that is time I can't afford to spend on that….. *Scratches the right side of his face in slight nervousness* no offense to you. Just treat me as a passive observer." Legoshi stated as he manifested a digital data pad into his left hand and a stylus into his right as he floated off the ground and sat in a cross-legged position.
The group reached a gated wall made of white stone. Legoshi noticed a group of guards along with the spear hero that he saw through his staff. Legoshi floated off to the side and observed from a couple hundred feet away.
Only Naufomi's group could see Legoshi due to his mind manipulation abilities that allow him to be invisible to those he does not wish to be seen by.
Legoshi started to take small notes as a small fight occurred. He managed to finish writing out a check box list of qualifications when the situation changes from a brawl to a defensive measure as Naufomi began creating green shields above him.
A column of destructive light came down on the mortals but managed to block it enough to leave a small circle of ground untouched by the blast. Legoshi turned to the life energies he felt approaching and saw a large gathering of people in robes led by someone in all white wearing a strange hat.
It only took a couple of sentences from this "popes" mouth to tell Legoshi that this was a gathering of religious zealots. He did not have to deal with too many of these as a destroyer, but the ones he had to interact with were beyond saving and had to be culled.
As this new "antagonist" started his tirade against the group he was studying, Legoshi marked off a check box.
"Able to cooperate with others, check." He said to himself as Naufomi was now working with what he saw as their enemies just a few minutes ago.
As the battle ensued, Legoshi was becoming more and more annoyed at the pretentious, self-serving pontificating of this pope that he eventually decided to act on it. Legoshi pointed his pen at where the pope was inside the dome and his pen glowed purple for a second before returning to normal.
With Naufomi
The pope had just taken a barrage of attacks from the four heroes and was getting angry that he has not won yet.
"You defy God! Cleansing won't be…*violent cough*."
The pope could not finish his statement as his vocal cords had sudden been reduced to ash in his through and was now violently coughing up a mixture of ash and blood. The pope tried to speak through the blood but found that he was now mute as only breath would come out.
Everyone paused for a moment at this new development and how it happened.
"I know that I said that I would be a passive observer, but his voice was annoying me too much. That should not have weakened him in a fight but is now permanently mute. You can continue now." Legoshi spoke into the mind of Naufomi and his three-person group."
Naufomi smiled on the inside at that before resuming the fight with the others.
Back with Legoshi
Legoshi went back to his list and placed a check in the box next to "able to control anger" with a note next to it reading "could still use work on it though".
Legoshi saw Naufomi kill the pope with a "blood sacrifice" attack that later made him fall unconscious. Legoshi then checked the box next to "Willing and able to kill intelligent beings."
The next day:
Legoshi floated next to the throne of the queen as an old man and young red head woman were put on trial. From what Legoshi could gather from the conversation, these two were responsible for all the pain and suffering that he has been through that are not the monsters and pope he fought through his time here.
Legoshi could tell from Naufomi's expression that he was having an internal moral crisis. Legoshi looked down at his list and may special attention to the note next to a check box that read "Able to show mercy." As the second from the top of his requirements list. He taps his pen next to his mouth a few times before returning his attention to Naufomi.
"If he makes this check box, then he will meet my requirements to take the destroyer's test." He thought to himself as it seems at that moment the two were just sentenced to immediate execution.
Before the woman and man were beheaded, Naufomi offered to the crowd to spare them since death would be to easy and quick and instead, they should live out their lives in humiliation under the names "trash" for the old man and "bitch" and "whore" for the woman.
Once the execution was cancelled and the heroes, especially Naufomi, were offered a party and gifts, Legoshi checked off the box for "Able to show mercy.". As Naufomi was leaving the castle with his companions, Legoshi floated in front of him and gave a small round of applause.
"Looks like you meet all my qualifications Naufomi!" He said with a smile.
"Which are? Or are you also not going to tell us that?" in a mocking/teasing tone.
"You were able to show me that you respect life, can take life, and are able to show mercy. That's pretty much what I was looking for in you and any potential destroyer candidate's personality. Now for the test… If you are willing to take it that is. I won't lie to you, this will be very…"unpleasant"…*rubs the back of his head and nervously laughs a bit* But I will compensate all three of you for him taking the test of course." Legoshi states.
Naufomi mulled this over in his head for a bit before answering a minute later.
"Just to make sure I am completely understanding the implications of this, if I were to pass this time then I would…"
"Be able to become a god? Yes, though you would be then trained to fully solidify your deific status." Legoshi answered for him.
"And if he fails?" Raphtalia asked in a concern tone.
"There would be no lasting effects, but the test may be a bit…..traumatizing. Basically, this is a simple test of endurance and willpower."
"So, what is this test? Do we have to go anywhere or do anything strange?" Naufomi asked, reminding himself that this was a god that was going to be testing him.
"Nope. We can do it right here… right now…. The test I mean." Legoshi answered sheepishly at the end.
"What is the test?" Filo asked innocently.
All three stared at Legoshi expectantly after the question since it was pretty much the best question on their minds.
Legoshi takes a modest breath before holding out his right hand. A dark purple ball of energy expands into existence that is the size of a baseball just a centimeter above his right palm.
"The test is simple: Take this ball of Destroyer's ki into yourself, then force it back into a ball like the one you see here. Be warned that this will put immense stress on your mind, body, and soul, but I will prevent the worst effects of Hakai from happening to you. The only risk on your part is the trauma this might bring. Succeed or fail, I will still greatly compensate for just taking the test. If you choice not to take it then that is also okay and I will not hold it against you. So Naufomi *extends his right hand within a foot in front of Naufomi* what is your answer?"
Raphtalia and Filo look at the ball for a bit, then to Naufomi. Naufomi stared at the ball for what felt like an hour but was only a few minutes before asking one last question.
"What kind of compensation are we talking about? I mean will it be worth this trauma you speak of?"
"That is ultimately up to you though I will say that I will make it so that your journeys on this and other worlds, that I can tell that you will be visiting, will be a lot less dangerous to your wellbeing." Legoshi answers while looking away and scratching the back of his head for a moment.
Naufomi looks back at the ball for a moment and then to his companions for a minute.
"If it will help keep them safe then I will take the test." Naufomi said with determination in his eyes.
"Very well… *holds out left hand out flat* place your hand on top of my left hand."
Naufomi nods before placing his right hand onto Legoshi's left. Legoshi then brings his right hand with the ball of hakai over Naufomi's hand and places his hand on Naufomi's. The ball disappears and Naufomi is the suddenly covered in a dark purple aura.
Naufomi begins screaming in agony like Raphtalia and Filo had never seen before as Naufomi slowly fell to his knees. To Naufomi, this was like the rage shield and blood sacrifice spell but far more intense and relentless. It felt like his mind, body and soul had been cast into a volcano with lead boots on. He would randomly feel paralyzed in different parts of his body as he felt that he was being immolated with a purple flame flamethrower. His memories and thoughts would frantically weave in and out the front of his mind like they were people fleeing a tsunami. His spirit felt like a massive weight was put on it while giants beat him down whenever his willpower would so much as flinch.
This went on for 3 minutes before Raphtalia tried to push Legoshi's arms away from Naufomi.
"Please Stop!" she yelled in a frantic panic.
Legoshi noticed this and looked back to Naufomi and saw that he was making no progress and decided to end the test. He let go of Naufomi's hands and the aura disappeared in seconds. Naufomi was violently shaking, heavily sweating and rapidly breathing while on all fours with his head down.
A few moments later Naufomi started puking on the ground with a little bit of blood in it before falling backwards into a sitting position trying to slow his breath.
"You put in a good effort, but your willpower was not strong enough I'm afraid." Legoshi says while looking at Naufomi sympathetically.
Naufomi manages to catch his breath after ten minutes on the floor as Raphtalia and Filo sit next to him and help him in whatever way they could.
"You should be proud Naufomi. Not many in the universe would be able to endure what you just went through… *Looks at how pained looking Naufomi still looks* but I think you have suffered enough."
Legoshi materializes his staff and points it at Naufomi. A teal aura covers Naufomi for a moment before fading. Naufomi stops sweating, breaths deeply and stands up with no difficulty. Legoshi dismisses his staff before taking a 45-degree bow.
" I must apologize for the agony I just put you through and hope you can forgive me for it and as I promised I will greatly compensate you for this and will do so now."
"Thanks, and I accept your apology, though in all honesty; if it were not for my friends I probably would have preferred death than that again." He responded in a morbid joke.
Legoshi straightens back up and eyes his shield for a moment. Remembering what information he gathered on the heroes on his initial trip here he mulled some ideas in his head for a minute before he came up with an appropriate reward.
"I recall your shield can analyze materials and take on some of its properties, correct?"
"More like absorb them then take on their properties, but yes." Naufomi corrects.
Legoshi summons his staff and summons a block of what appears to be some sort of metal or stone that has the same coloration as sand and hands it to Naufomi.
"This is called Kachi Katchin, the most durable metal in the multiverse. While pointless for gods to use other than building material, I think it will serve you well as both a offensive and defensive option."
Legoshi had forgotten how heavy the metal was when he handed it to Naufomi and had to grab it back before it crushed Naufomi's hand.
"ss sorry about that! I forgot how heavy this metal was. Here let me do that for you." Legoshi apologetically and sheepishly said.
"Thanks… you do that" Naufomi answered with a bead of sweat on the back of his head.
Legoshi pressed the kachi up against the blue crystal on Naufomi's shield and the shield absorbed it. The shield registered the new material and labeled the new ability as kachi shield, which took on the form of a massive tower shield design with spikes on the front side. The shield was lighter than what it should be for the metal it was made from, but it was certainly too heavy to use with fast arm movements. The group examined the new shield, and each gave it a tap. Filo tapped it a little to hard and ended up with a small bruise on her fingers.
"impressive. Though not sure how I can wield this heavy ass shield as a weapon though."
"Maybe as a battering ram?" Legoshi suggested.
Naufomi gave it a test shove and found that while he could move it forward at a reasonable pace, he certainly could not run with it.
Legoshi turned his attention to Raphtalia and noticed that she was carrying a sword on her hip.
Legoshi mulled this over a few seconds before smiling to himself.
"soo… Raphtalia right? I see that you are a swordswoman. I think I got the perfect thing for you." Legoshi said with a smile.
Legoshi used his staff to materialize a silver metal cylinder into his right hand.
"What is your favorite color? I will make the blade that color."
"What blade? Is it a mana blade like mine?" She asked with a confused expression while holding up her sword.
"You will see shortly. Now can I have your favorite color?"
Raphtalia looks to Naufomi for a moment before answering.
"Can it be green?"
"Yes it can" Legoshi says with a smile.
Legoshi taps the cylinder with his staff before hold the cylinder in front of Raphtalia.
"Do you see this button?" Legoshi asks, pointing to a obviously raised a sectioned part of the cylinder that makes it look like a small block was slightly stick out of it.
"Yes." Raphtalia answers.
"Push it"
Raphtalia pushes on the button and a beam of green light shoots out of the cylinder and stops at 1.5 meters from the top of the cylinder. A constant humming noise could be heard from the blade.
"This is called a lightsaber. A sword made of highly destructive plasma that can cut through virtually any material. The only things that can stop that blade on this world is my skin, staff, and Naufomi's new shield. Be careful when using it because of the cutting power…watch." Legoshi explained.
Legoshi then threw the light saber towards a row of thick tree trunks. The blade spun like a buzzsaw as it flew and cut through the trees like air and left scorched marks on the stumps and fallen trunks. The blade turned back around and flew back into Legoshi's right hand. Legoshi pressed the button and the beam retracted back into the cylinder. He then handed the lightsaber to Raphtalia. She took it and ignited the blade again and waved it around a bit.
"It's like it does not weigh anything… just like my mana blade."
Raphtalia was about to try to throw the saber like Legoshi did, but he quickly closed her hand around the hilt.
"You require a telekinesis ability to use the sword like that."
"Telekinesis?" Raphtalia asked.
"It's the ability to move objects with your mind or will objects to move on their own." Naufomi answered.
Raphtalia was surprised and impressed that Naufomi knew that term and praised him for it. Legoshi moved on to Filo and remembered how she fought against the pope.
"So Filo… You fight with your hands and feet right?"
"Mmhmm."
Legoshi ponders over this for a minute or two before finally coming up with an idea. He taps the top of his tap onto his right hand and materializes a bottle of what appeared to be ordinary water. Filo looks a bit disappointed at the bottle as Legoshi hands it to her. Raphtalia also looks disappointed, but Naufomi looks at it with curiosity and waited for a explanation as to what it was.
"Hakai the negative effects of this water" Legoshi thought.
The water shimmered purple for a second before returning to normal looking water, but Legoshi used his mind manipulation to prevent them from seeing that so he would not have to waste time explaining it.
"This is called mystic water. It will unlock your body's full potential. Just simply drink and the water will do the rest of the work."
If it was not for the fact that Legoshi is a deity and has proved himself then they would have told him that he was full of crap and sounded like a con artist. Filo took the glass bottle and drank the 2 cups of mystic water that was in it. Filo suddenly felt her muscles vibrate and grow a bit. She grew a few inches and 4 of her hairs stood up and stayed that way. When she pulled one off another hair stood up in the same spot.
Filo was feeling energetic and excited as she transformed into her bird form that was now the size of a town square or small lake. When she jumped up, she disappeared before crashing back down with a force that threw everyone except Legoshi 200 meters away. Filo was cheering, waddling and dancing that made the earth around Legoshi shake a little.
Once Naufomi and Raphtalia recovered and returned to Filo, they were awed at her new size and power and congratulated her.
"Are you satisfied with your compensation?" Legoshi asked in an almost customer service tone.
"Very much. We will probably thank you a lot more when these gifts are put to use." Naufomi thanked.
"Well I'm glad. Now I don't mean to be rude, but I need to get going. I have to go to find a candidate ASAP." He said as he shot into the sky in a column of rainbow light.
"Thank You Legoshi!" The three shouted and waved goodbye.
10 minutes of traveling the universe later:
Legoshi stopped his movement after deciding to choose a planet at random from a galaxy several million light years away from the planet he left. Once was in orbit of this new world he manifested his staff in order to learn about the world in advance before he landed so he could safe some time.
"hmm… let's see here…. There is magic here as well. Humans..? again?! Either this planet has similar evolutionary history or Gosha likes to make humans. There are other intelligent lifeforms here as well…including undead? interesting. The strongest ki signature is coming from… a forest." Legoshi thought to himself while looking through the eye of his staff.
Legoshi learned of the tomb of Nazarick. He learned of its history and its important occupants including an undead who was once human before being transported here and was the one showing the strongest ki signature.
"Hmmmm, about as strong or a little bit stronger than a world's guardian… at least there is something to work with… though the negative feeling in that ki does not give me hope for a good outcome…*sigh* o well. Better start a little away from the tomb as to not startle them. Don't want to waste time dealing with that." Legoshi says to himself as he flies in a pillar of rainbow light towards the world.
With said Undead:
Lord Ainz, master and supreme being of Nazarick, was sitting in the office room of the tomb. He was going over reports and locations of nations with Albedo, the leader of the floor guardians. Albedo informed Ainz that they could not find Shalltear's attacker. Ainz was going over the different nations. Ainz soon decided to heed the call of his subordinate Cocytus.
"Lord Ainz! Forgive my rudeness in contacting you directly but there is an intruder 200 meters from the tomb's front gate and approaching us!" came the voice of a lesser lich patrolling the perimeter.
"Why are you contacting me about it? Shouldn't the patrols be already attacking them?" Ainz asked in a slightly annoyed tone over the magic/telepathic comms.
"That's the thing Lord Ainz… they… can't." The Lich answered with great hesitance.
"What do you mean they can't!?" in a raised and agitated tone of voice but manages to keep his composure.
"Well….. Lord Ainz… it seems like when ever one of the patrols makes an aggressive motion towards the intruder, even when they are 200 meters away, … it's like they are frozen solid… I…I can't explain it to you Lord." The lich hesitantly explains.
"Is the intruder using a command or charm spell? I though undead were immune or highly resistant to such spells."
"No Lord… no magic is detected from the intruder, or any spells being activated."
"sh**! And we just got over the disaster with Shalltear's mind control and now a brazen intruder comes to our front door *sigh* I just hope this day does not a repeat of something like that." Ainz thinks to himself.
"Albedo! It seems like we have an intruder at our front gate. Meet me in the throne room immediately!" Ainz orders.
"Who would dare be foolish enough to invade us directly!? They shall be crushed by the might of Nazarick for their disrespect!" Albedo threatened out loud.
Both Ainz and Albedo quickly make their way to the throne room. Ainz sits on the throne with Albedo to his left. Albedo pulls up Nazarick's surveillance network on a multitude of monitors that float in front of Ainz.
What Ainz and Albedo see walking towards the front gates, now 100 meters away, is not an army or a group of heavily armed adventurers, but a single individual walking with the pace of someone who is carefree and/or oblivious.
The individual in question was an anthropomorphic grey wolf wearing profound looking robes with a floating teal halo around his neck at a slanted angle. The wolfman was also holding a simple looking staff with a floating black ball above the top with a teal ring floating around the ball that resembled the around his neck.
"A wolfman? How odd. They had that race in YGGDRASIL, but I have not encountered any since we got to the new world. I don't see any items or cloths that I recognize from the game so it might not be a player, but he's clearly holding at least two magic items. Maybe one of them is has a ward or repel undead effect? No, a lich would be able to identify if that was the case. It looks like he is either non-hostile or is oblivious to what he is walking towards, but the way he seems to be B-lining it to the front gate suggests otherwise." Ainz ponders to himself.
"Shall I activate the perimeter traps lord Ainz?" Albedo asks.
Ainz glances at Albedo for a moment before returning to the monitors.
"No… only activate the ones inside the entrance and the first 3 floors accordingly. If the intruder is oblivious to us, then they will either be deterred by an empty building or by the traps if they discover the entrance. Either we waste nothing, frighten, or kill the intruder. If he manages to get past floor 1 then I want all of Nazarick at maximum security."
"As you wish my lord. We will test this intruder then?"
"Yes. We can also gauge their power and a little bit of their intentions from it."
"I hope I'm not being to lacks in this response and it comes to bite me in the ass, but I honestly can't read this situation or the person that well. If he is here diplomatically then we can warn him that he is trespassing once he gets inside. If he then refuses after hearing that then we can claim self-defense at least." Ainz thinks to himself.
Ainz tells the patrols to step aside and hide themselves before the intruder can see them and to follow behind and attack him from behind if he does not heed the traps.
About three minutes pass before the intruder makes it to the biggest building on the surface of Nazarick. Ainz sees the intruder walking casually up to the large slab of stone that serves as the front door to the tomb and begins to knock on it and wait expectantly.
Ainz looks confused and a little dumbfounded for a moment.
"He's treating the entrance to Nazarick like a door to a neighbor's house?! Is he expecting a polite greeting or something? *sigh* well he knows that someone is here at least, but is he being overly polite or is he just an idiot? Although it would look stupid to anyone to treat a tomb like a front door." Ainz thought to himself.
Ainz saw the wolfman wait one minute before lifting the tomb with his free hand and slowly walk down the steps and gently put the tomb back down as he descended.
"hmmm… lifting that tomb with one hand easily would put him at least around level 60. This also implies that he probably isn't a magic caster; although, his attire suggests otherwise."
Ainz told the guards to tell the intruder that he was trespassing, and any further ingress would result in their immediate termination. Ainz watched as the guards informed the intruder of his trespass and the consequences of refusing to leave. The intruder looked like they were trying to engage in conversation with the guards, but the guards shook their heads and appeared to repeat their order. The intruder shrugged and moved on like the guards were not worth his time. The guards pulled out their weapons and spells but found that they could not proceed or finish casting. To Ainz it looked like the guards suddenly lost the will or ability to attack as if they were under a paralysis spell, but he did not see any spell cast.
"So, this is what they meant by they can't, but how is he doing it?" Ainz thought to himself.
"Grand Detect Magic." Ainz said as he cast a spell on himself.
To Ainz increasing confusion he found no magic on the undead guards that would suggest any spell was used on them.
"Albedo. Activate the traps."
"At once my lord!"
Ainz watched as the intruder walked obliviously over explosive runes that exploded but was taken aback when the explosion was reversed back into a rune into the intruder's left hand and held there like a piece of round glass. There are magics that can do this kind of thing but what took him off guard was the fact that he used no magic to do it.
The automatic undead flooding trap was met with the same results as the guards as they were unable to attack the intruder. The poison gas and teleportaion traps met a similar result to the explosive runes as the gas and teleportation was condensed and held an inch above the runes his left hand and again with no magic.
At this point Ainz would normally send Shalltear, but due to her past incident he would not send her, but instead send the other guardians to their respective floors and to take defensive actions.
"This wolfman is turning out to be quite the anomaly." Ainz whispered to himself.
Shalltear heard through the grape vine that an intruder was on the floors that she guards and immediately went down to them to try to redeem herself for her past failure to Lord Ainz. Once she got to the 3rd floor she saw that the intruder was already there.
Ainz saw that Shalltear was just a few meters away from the intruder and immediately panicked.
"Shalltear!? What are you doing?! Get away from the intruder! We don't know what he is currently capable of, and I will not have a repeat incident! Am I clear!?" Ainz commanded over the message spell.
"But I want to atone and make you proud Lord Ainz! And I will prove it to you!" Shalltear countered.
"Prepare to die filthy invader! For the glory of Lord Ainz!" Shalltear shouted at the wolfman.
Shalltear tried equipping her armor and lance but found that she could not move or will herself to use her magic. It was as if her body and magic would no longer listen to her as she just stood frozen.
The wolfman walked up to Shalltear and head patted her with a smile on his face.
"I'm only here to make an offer to your master is all. I'm not here to fight. So, please just relax a bit, ok?" The wolfman said to her.
"How dare you touch me with your filthy hands!" she yelled at him for humiliating her.
She tried to turn around and attack him when he walked past her but found that every time she tried to make an aggressive action towards him she could not will her body or magic to do anything and would remain frozen again.
"You Bastard! Come back here and die by my hand! Take this spell off me or are you a coward to!?" She yelled in a challenge.
"I didn't really do anything like that to you… you just lack the will. Bye." He said as he back hand waved to her without turning around.
Ainz was now furious and dumbfounded at both Shalltear and the intruder. Ainz pulled up the administrative console and saw that Shalltear was still loyal to him and Nazarick, so this was not any form of charm that happened. Ainz let out a small sigh of relief.
"I'm going to have to add another, smaller, punishment on top of the one she already has coming for not listening to me that time, but I get her sentiment. More importantly, this wolfman pulled off the same thing to a floor guardian that he did to the guards and undead. I would have concluded that he was using a world class item to do this so passively, but no spell was cast and my detect magic spell is not being blocked. Either way this would put him at around level 100. This is starting to look very bad, but he is still not attacking or making any aggressive actions. What the hell is going on!?" Ainz thought to himself.
Ainz watched on as the intruder did the same thing to the fourth floor traps and guardian Gargantua, the fifth floor traps and guardian Cocytus, the sixth floor traps and guardians Aura and Mare, the seventh floor traps and guardian Demiurge, the eighth floor traps and guardian Victim, and the guards and maids of the ninth floor.
Ainz was now covering his face in shock and anxiety as this was unprecedented for Nazarick or for Ainz himself as has never encountered an individual with this much of an overwhelming command of the area around him that magic and even all of his guardians are rendered harmless to him, and not once did he see the intruder raise a hand in aggression or cast a single spell. The only rational conclusion that Ainz could come up with is that this was either a world class item's doing that he never encountered before, or something entirely unknown.
All these events happened in the span of 10 minutes and only a minute after the intruder made it to the 9th floor did the doors to the throne room, where Ainz and Albedo currently were, open to reveal the intruder.
Albedo quickly jumped in front of Ainz and was planning on charging the intruder, but like all the others she found that she could not move or cast magic. Ainz could see that Albedo was sweating as if staining herself to act, but she could not. Ainz immediately got up and looked to Albedo.
"Albedo! What's wrong?! Can you speak?!" he shouted in concern.
"I… I can't attack him… It's like my body won't listen to me."
A dark aura surrounded Ainz as he flew into a rage.
"How dare you attack my subordinates and friends in my own home of all places!" He screamed in a rage as the unknown force that Ainz knows of tried to calm him down.
Ainz was anticipating something stopping him from casting or moving, so he had placed many buff and protection spells on him beforehand.
Ainz was surprised when he was able to cast time stop, but when he tried to move forward, he found that he could not move or cast another spell.
"Mm my body. It won't listen." Ainz said aloud.
To Ainz disbelief, the wolfman was unaffected by the spell and simply walked forward and stopped at arm's length from him.
"So you can stop time? That is an impressive ability. I just wanted to see you use it since I have not encountered this before… If that's what you are wondering why you could cast that and nothing else… Sorry… I tend to ramble on and point things unnecessarily out. Comes with living as long as I have. Now what I was trying to get across to that…"charming" lady down there and to you all is that I'm not here to fight. I want to make you an offer. To be observed to see if you make my requirements and to give you a test if you make my requirements."
"What are you talking about?! What test? What requirements?! You invade my kingdom, my home just to give me an offer?!" Ainz angerly asked.
The wolfman scratches the back of his head
"umm…..yes? But to be fair I tried to be polite, you attacked me first, and I never attacked back."
"Then what do you call me and my subordinates' inability to move or attack you… and that large ball of condensed magic that you stole from us?!" Ainz demanded while looking at the layers of magic runes and gases that were still in the wolfman's left hand.
"O that? I thought that you wouldn't want all this magic to be wasted on me since it would not have worked on me…so, I condensed it all to give back to you…. Sorry. Doing that is a habit of mine. As for the inability to attack me, that's a power that my status and training gives me to be able to suppress the will and impulses of those I wish. I did that since I didn't want to embarrass you or cause you to get hurt." The wolfman apologized.
The way he said it and how sincere he looked made Ainz jaw drop for many different reasons
"….Are…are you serious?" Ainz asked in disbelief at what he was hearing in both a baffled and bewildered kind of way.
"I am… o wait.. your friend there should probably hear this to." He said as he snapped his fingers.
When the wolfman snapped his fingers, the time stop vanished in an instantaneous flash of light.
Ainz was surprised to many times today to even fight back anymore and now he just gave up on aggression and instead to finally try diplomacy.
Albedo tried to attack once she found that she could will her body to move against the wolfman but was stopped by Ainz.
"That's enough Albedo! The intruder has proven himself by power to be worthy of an audience for his offer. He has also shown no hostility towards Nazarick besides the intrusion *Turns towards the wolfman* which I expect compensation for this offense if we are to continue on diplomatic terms. How about we start with your name."
Albedo calms down and takes her place next to Ainz with her hands held in front of her.
"Very well my Lord Ainz… You may speak your name to the Supreme being of Nazarick Intruder."
The wolfman looked like he was sweating a little from embarrassment when he asked for his name.
"I'm very sorry for not getting to that first… * bows at a 45 degree angle with his right hand over his chest* My name is Legoshi and I am an Angel." Legoshi presented himself.
Back to Legoshi's Perspective:
"An angel? You don't appear to be any angel that I have ever seen. Can you give me a different title for greater clarity of your status or authority?" The skeleton called Ainz asked.
"I would be surprised if you have seen another with my attire and authority. As for a different title…. I can also go by deity or former God of Destruction."
"A god? How pretentious! Even if you were a god, what makes you think you can make demands of the supreme being and love of my life Lord Ainz, who surpasses even the gods!?" The woman called Albedo scoffed.
Legoshi looks a little confused for a moment before remembering the differences of perspectives.
"I can see there is some confusion of the classification of "god" or "deity". I'm afraid your perspective on what I am referring to is very, very, very...uhh…inadequate. I am not some world bound god whose powers can only effect a single world at most. I am the kind of deity that shapes and governs on a universal scale and beyond." Legoshi clarified.
There was silence for a few moments.
"Universal?!" Ainz whispered in shock and disbelief.
"Universal? Ridiculous! My lord Ainz would never believe such a being would exist. No one is above the supreme beings and I take great offense that not only would you lie so openly, that you think yourself greater than Lord Ainz, but that you would insult me for my perspective! Ainz, I suggest we refuse any offer this mutt has for us and continue with our own business." Albedo retorted.
"Albedo do not insinuate my opinions on this matter for me when I am standing right here…but she is right about one thing. That is a tall clam you make and very difficult to believe. Without some sort of proof to your claim then I will also agree with Albedo's assessment that you are trying to deceive us and will force you out of our kingdom with no deal."
"Forgive me lord! And thank you!"
Legoshi sighs to himself before taken in a deep breath.
"Proof?... Alright. While it would be problematic for both of us if I proved it by destroying the universe, I can easily prove that I am not some world bond god by way of might and knowledge."
"Knowledge?! What do you mean by that? Can you elaborate or demonstrate?" Ainz asked in a confused tone.
A mischievous smile managed to creep on Legoshi's face for a moment.
"Then I would advise Albedo here to cover her ears, for you may no want her to hear want I'm about to tell you."
The way Legoshi said this made Ainz feel uneasy and instead of protesting the suggestion decided to follow along with it.
"Albedo…. Walk back to the throne and cover your ears. I will hear what he has to divulge."
Albedo twitched for a moment before obeying her master.
"You may proceed."
"What I am about to tell you is simple but will probably shatter your sense of privacy from me and I apologize in advice for it. I know that you are not originally undead. You were human once from a different world than this one. Your player character, or what is your real body now, was from a DMMORP game called YGGDRASIL. You changed Albedo's settings to make her fall in love with you before you came to this world in a way that you would call "dorky". I know that your human hair was black. You had an Office job that made you a "Zombie" because you had to get up at "4:00" in the morning each "weekday". I know that you did not finish "grade school". Finally, I know that your real name is Suzuki Satoru who lived in an apartment building and were last human while sitting on a rotating chair. Do I have your attention now?" Legoshi listed with a crap eating grin at the end.
Legoshi was starting to feel a little guilty from revealing he knew all that from what he studied with his staff because of the way Ainz looked traumatized. Legoshi rubs the back of his head before deciding to offer something to break the tension.
"Well, I think I can give you that compensation now. Albedo can listen in now."
Ainz called over Albedo while Legoshi looked into his staff for about a minute.
"Okay… so, I know that you had a small crisis a few days ago with your guardian Shalltear. I can show you who mind controlled her, how they did it, and where they are right now. Do you think that will be compensation enough for me intruding in your kingdom?"
"You know who did it? If you can show us then I will consider that adequate compensation."
"Lord Ainz, how do we no this is not a deception? We have had our scouts scour the country for that information and came up with nothing. How can one person suddenly have that information without being some kind of…"
"No Albedo! He has proven to me that he knows or can learn things that he should not have been able to know. Things no divination magic could unearth. If there is a chance that he can show us the culprit, then I will take it!" Ainz interrupted.
"Very well Lord Ainz, but may I suggest bringing Shalltear up here to confirm some of this information?"
"That would be for the best." Ainz says as he puts his fingers to the side of his head.
A few minutes later, the pink haired vampire Shalltear arrived.
"Shalltear, this man claims he can show us who attacked, and mind controlled you along with their current location. I want you to verify that the person he shows you is indeed the same that attacked you." Ainz commanded.
"Very well Ainz."
Shalltear gave Legoshi a stink eye, letting him know that she does not like him at all.
"Very well. I shall now project the scene of the attack." Legoshi stated as a screen was projected into the air from his staff.
The screen showed Shalltear attacking a group of knights when suddenly her attention is brought to an old woman with blonde hair and white robes with a golden dragon design on it which Ainz was able to identify as a world class item and is what most likely mind controlled Shalltear. The video also showed a powerful, brunette knight that tried to stop her but only partially. And the video also showed a plated knight with floating weapons around him that managed to tank a hit from her lance, although with a small hole in his armor.
"That's her! That's the bitch that I tried to kill but was stopped!" She hissed in rage.
"That woman is named Kaire. The item she used to control you is her robes, which is called Downfall of Castle and Country. She is with the Slane Theocracy and is currently located here." Legoshi says as the projection changes to a map of the country.
Legoshi points to the south of Nazarick to where Ainz knew where the Theocracy was.
"She survived her encountered, but based on her current health and the skill of her healers, she will eventually die from her wounds, but I think you may wish to also know of that plated knight."
"I want to kill her with my bare hands!" Shalltear hissed again.
"And you will get the chance, or at least desecrate her corpse. Now, you said that I should know about the plated knight… Why may I ask?" Ainz asked.
"Because that suit of armor is an empty vessel being controlled by a "platinum dragon lord" named Tsaindorcus Vaision and is one of the current leaders of the Argland Council State." Legoshi stated, pointing to the south of the map, below the slane theocracy.
"But isn't the Argland Council State to the North?" Ainz pointed out.
"Yes, but Vaision is in a floating castle down here. The castle is a place that two hundred years ago used to have 8 players, like yourself, in it." Legoshi corrected.
"I see. This is indeed a great deal of invaluable information you have given me. Can you tell me if there are any players in this world?"
"There used to be, but you are currently the only one."
"I see. Very well. While this does prove the knowledge or ability to learn like a god would, but this does not prove to me your power. How will you rectify that?" Ainz asked.
"Come meet me outside and I'll show you."
"I think it would be best if you simply followed us to the outside" Albedo suggested.
"Okay. Lead the way." Legoshi said with a shrug.
Ainz, Albedo, and Shalltear lead Legoshi outside the tomb and a few hundred meters away from the front gate.
"I think this is a good spot." Legoshi stated.
The group halted and turned around to face Legoshi.
"So Legoshi, how do you plan on proving your power out here?" Ainz asked.
"Simple."
Legoshi points upward towards the sun. everyone looks to where he is pointing but have to shield their eyes.
"Without moving from this spot, I am going to destroy this system's star in less than 10 seconds. Will that convince you?"
The group laughed at him, though Ainz was not completely sure of the outcome but decided to laugh along with the rest.
"While I doubt that, but yes it would be enough to convince me." Ainz doubted.
"Okay then… this should be interesting to see your reactions." Legoshi said with a little smile and enthusiasm.
Overlord OST: Ruler of Death begins to play
Legoshi de manifested his staff and put up both of his hand in from of him with his fingers spread out. A Sphere of Destruction the size of a grape manifested itself just above his left pointer finger. Legoshi began the countdown on his fingers, starting with his left index finger. The sphere of destruction flew towards the sun at a speed that the audience could just barely see before suddenly speeding off at a speed that they could no longer see it.
2:23 of the song plays
Once the finger countdown reached 5, the sun began to quickly disappear in a swarm of purple bubbles. The sun was completely gone, and the world was in shadow when Legoshi reached the three second mark. Legoshi quickly created a barrier around the group and a ball of ki to serve as a light. The world was darkness, lifeless, and ice once the others could look at the world around them and stared at Legoshi in terrified awe.
Song ends.
"And now for the final part of the display." Legoshi said as he rematerialized his staff and tapped it on the ground three times.
The group noticed light coming back onto the world and looked up to where it was manifesting. The sun was coming back in the same swam of purple bubbles, but in reverse. The ice began to rapidly disappear and things that they saw that were dead suddenly sprang back to life. In just 5 seconds the sun and world were reverted to the way they were before the display.
"I think that is proof enough of my divinity… don't you think?" Legoshi said with a closed eyed smile.
Ainz, Shalltear, and Albedo had lumps in their throats as they could not find words to respond with. Ainz desperately fought off the urge to do a on the floor bow because Shalltear and Albedo were there. After what felt like an eternity, Ainz finally found the will to speak.
"I think that is proof enough…. And enough excitement for one day."
"Thank goodness I'm in an undead body or else I might have thrown up." Ainz thought to himself.
"So, what is it that you wanted to offer me and my kingdom?" Ainz asked.
"I am looking for a replacement for my former job as God of Destruction of this universe. My offer is that I wish to observe the most prominent of your kingdom and see if they meet a small list of my requirements, which I will disclose after the observation but not before, and if I find someone that meets those requirements then I will give them a simple but taxing test. I will compensate your kingdom for simply taking the test. Do I have your permission to monitor your prominent members?"
"That is acceptable. We will make a schedule as to who you will observe at what time… at your choice of course." Ainz answered.
"No need." Legoshi countered.
Legoshi used his ki cloning technique to make 10 other bodies of himself that stepped outside of his original body.
"I can do it all at once." Legoshi said through all his clones.
"Of course, he can." Ainz thought to himself.
"Of course, Legoshi, you are allowed to monitor as many as you want or can. My only rule on this that there will be no sharing of information with any outside parties, or we will refuse your observation and test." Ainz stated.
"Fair enough. Deal?" Legoshi said with his right hand out.
"Deal." Ainz answered with a handshake.
"Also, Don't worry about me being seen. I can conceal my presence to all those I wish through mind manipulation." Legoshi added.
Over the course of the next few days and weeks, Legoshi had a clone follow each of the guardians, one for Ainz himself, one for Ainz's NPC creation Pandora's Actor, and one for Sebas and had taken notes on each of them and mark checks and Xs in each respective box based on his observations. The notes are as follows:
Albedo:
Is extremely attached to her master and will not disobey an order from him. Is quick to impulsive acts that she believes that will benefit her master and help her get…."closer?" to him.
X : Is merciful?: appears to show no empathy towards those she views as lesser beings and would not hesitate to kill or belittle them for the slightest offence unless ordered to respect them by Ainz himself.
X: Respects life?: Does not view those who she believes are beneath her worthy of life or recognition other than "worm" or "filth".
Check: Able to take life?: is willing and able to kill others under orders or for offenses and even on whims.
Conclusion: Does not meet my requirements for Destroyer Candidate.
Cocytus:
Is loyal almost to a fault, but at least has restraint to his behavior.
Check: Is merciful?: Witnessed Cocytus seek the resurrection of those that were his enemies due to respecting their warrior mentality and was willing to be stubborn to his master.
X: Respects life?: Does not respect the lives of those outside his master, colleagues, and subordinates that do not have a noble warrior mentality.
Check: Able to take life?: does not hesitate to kill when the time calls for it.
Conclusion: Does not meet my requirements for Destroyer Candidate.
Ainz:
While he treats those under his respect and love, will not hesitate to dispose of those that get in his way and to gain a benefit from their removal.
X: Is merciful?: His idea of mercy is warped at best and would kill or torture anyone for any offence to him or his kingdom.
X: Respects life?: Does not seem to hold any value in any life, other than his subordinates, that does not directly benefit him and his kingdom.
Check: Able to take life?: Is willing and able to kill for beneficial or revenge reasons.
Conclusion: Does not meet my requirements for Destroyer Candidate.
Shalltear:
Is pretty much a small child version of Albedo.
X: is merciful?: Takes sick pleasure in torturing and killing her enemies and would not hesitate to get revenge for any reason.
X: Respects life?: Does not view anyone outside of Nazarick as being of any value.
Check: Able to take life?: is willing, able, and takes pleasure in killing others.
Conclusion: Does not meet my requirements for Destroyer Candidate.
-Gargantua is a mindless construct and automatically does not qualify.
Victim:
Check: is merciful?: is unable to take life of another due to low combat abilities.
Check: Respects life?: While unspoken about outside races, is humble and courteous to those he knows.
X: Able to take life?: is unable to take life either by will or ability.
Conclusion: Does not meet my requirements for Destroyer Candidate…. But would make a decent enough kai.
Demiurge:
Plays the part of strategist a little to well and is often lost in his work.
X: Is merciful?: Witnessed killing fleeing combatants and called them weak.
X: Respects life?: seems to only care for his master and subordinates and sees everyone else as either garbage or simple pieces to be played and discarded.
Check: Able to take life?: is willing and able to take life for tactical advantage or for petty revenge for perceived insults.
Conclusion: Does not meet my requirements for Destroyer Candidate.
Aura and Mare:
-twins with opposite quirks but have similar loyalties and perspectives.
X: Is merciful?: both have no issue turtoring and killing others to get to their end goals, even if their victims beg for mercy.
Check: Respects life: While they do not show respect to humanoid life that is not of Nazarick, at least show compassion and care for plants and animals… but in a collector's kind of way.
Check: Able to take life?: are willing and able to kill others for the sack of their master and kingdom.
Conclusion: Both do not meet my requirements for Destroyer Candidate.
Pandora's Actor:
Is the most flamboyant in behavior and is the only one that seems to question his master…. At least for clarity.
X: Is merciful?: while not observed, has stated that hey would show no mercy or hesitation if ordered.
X: Respects life?: does not place much value in any life outside Nazarick.
Check: Able to take life: Is willing and able to kill on command.
Conclusion: Does not meet my requirements for Destroyer Candidate.
Sebas:
Is respectable, courteous, and noble as well as a loyal butler who tends to his duties.
Check: Is merciful?: gives his trespassers a chance to repent and normally does not kill the weak unless order to do so or has insulted his master, kingdom, or life in general.
Check: Respects life?: Saved a woman he had no obligation or other reason to save, treated her, and tried to persuade his master to use her rather than dispose of her.
Check: Able to take life?: is willing and able to take the life of his enemy and those he deems to be unworthy of life.
Conclusion: Meets my requirements for Destroyer Candidate. Proceed to offer test.
Almost a month later:
Legoshi tells Ainz that he has finished his observations and has found a worthy candidate for the test and that he should assemble his guardians and maids in the throne room. Ainz does so and awaits Legoshi's decision.
" I have observed all that are in attendance for about a month now to see if they met my requirements for my test. These requirements are: are they merciful?, do they respect life?, and are they able to take life? Only one of you has met all three of my requirements and that person is…" Legoshi announces.
Legoshi manifests his staff into his right hand and holds it up in the air for a little dramatic effect before quickly pointing at someone.
"Sebas!" Legoshi proclaimed as he pointed at him.
"Me?! But why not my lord or the others? I am just a butler and old man and I am not nearly the most powerful one here." Sebas asked and slightly objected.
"Because it was not about the power of the individual I was looking for, but their character. If they did not pass those requirements, then I would not have cared if they could pass my test because I would not want them as a destroyer. You are the only one that met my requirements and it's as simple as that."
Legoshi vanishes and instantly appears in front of Sebas.
"So Sebas, Will you take my test? You and Ainz will be well rewarded simply taking the test."
"And what would happen if I passed your test?"
"Then I would take you to your new home off planet and be trained to become this universe's God of Destruction… If you accepted the job offer of course."
Sebas looked down and appeared to ponder his decision before speaking just a minute later.
"If that means leaving my kingdom, my duties, and my lord behind then no I will not. I have no desire to surpass my lord. Legoshi, I refuse to take your test and that is my final answer."
Legoshi was a bit taken aback by this noble and determined response as Sebas just refused a chance at divinity to continue serving his lord.
It took Legoshi a few moments to come up with a response while Ainz sounded like he wanted to cry tears of joy.
"I'm impressed Sebas. Not many beings would turn down the chance at godhood, but you did it in honor and service to your lord. You also refused it in such a bold and definitive matter towards a being of my caliber. I am so impressed; in fact, that I am going to give you and Ainz a gift any as recognize to your loyalty."
Legoshi walked up to Ainz and ask what currency is most valuable to him and Ainz showed him a gold coin of this world along with a gold coin of YGGDRASIL. Legoshi held both coins in his left hand for a moment before using his staff to make millions upons millions of copies of both kinds of coins. Inside the throne room. For Sebas, Legoshi gave him two gifts, although they didn't look like much at all. One was a set of stone weights that increase in weight to match the users maximum threshold of strength and the other was a book detailing different ki techniques and how to perform them.
Legoshi took a final bow before waving goodbye and leaving the planet.
"Hmm… maybe I should consider observing potential candidates before talking to them?... maybe?... though that does sound kind of creepy, but it would cut down on time. I guess I will consider it if feels appropriate." Legoshi thought to himself while flying through the cosmos.
"Maybe Bill would have an idea about worlds I could inspect." He thought as he tried to come up with ideas to save time.
Author's Note: I am so very sorry this took me so long to get to. Procrastination was high for me for a while. I hope you all enjoyed the chapter and enjoy the next one.
