A/N: A J/O one-shot.
John pushed his hands deeper into his pockets as the rain pummeled him. Across the rain slicked roof he saw the slender figure of Olivia. Her head was thrown back and her arms stretched wide, as if she could reach the very heavens itself. As if she could wash away all her sorrows. He fought the wind and rain as he made his way up to her, feeling the chill penetrate his skin and into his bones. Eventually he was right next to her. He looked sidelong at her and wondered how long she had been here, alone. John touched her shoulder gently, "Olivia." Startled, she looked up, as if she had just noticed him. "Hey." She said softly. There was a tone in her voice John didn't notice before, and he shivered as he realized what it was. Exhaustion, a tone he had heard often in retired SVU cops, but never before in hers. "Olivia, are you okay?" He kicked himself as he asked this question. Idiot! He thought Of course she's not ok! For a second Olivia's eyes looked into his, then they skirted away. She said nothing. Cupping her face in his hands, he forced her to look into his eyes. "Olivia." He said, adding steel into his voice. She sighed, and folding her arms across her chest as the cold got to her. "You know" she said slowly "When I was a little kid, and things got really bad at home, I would stand in the rain and let it wash over me. I imagined that it was the angels weeping, and if I stood in it, all my sorrows and sins would be washed away like magic. I even thought my mom could be cured if she stood in it. Pretty stupid huh?" she smiled feebly, the smile not quite reaching her eyes. She shivered again as a gust of wind blasted them with cold air. Taking off his coat, John tenderly wrapped it around her body as if she was a child. "You know, I have always admired you. You have such vitality, such strength. And no matter what anybody says, you always follow your own heart. A man would be lucky to have you." He touched the back of her hand lightly, surprising Olivia as well as himself. She slipped her hand into his and squeezed gently. "Thanks John, that means a lot to me." She smiled, and this time the smile reached her eyes. They sat content together, hand in hand, letting the rain wash away their sorrows.
