The next morning
Katsuki woke up feeling refreshed and free of pain.
Then, he remembered that Deku had left him something. Katsuki looked around the room, when his eyes stopped on his bedside table. A beautiful feather necklace lay there, five scarlet feathers on a chain with 5 smaller golden feather on them (1).
Katsuki put on the necklaces, and got ready for school.
-SLIGHT TIMESKIP-
When Katsuki came down the stairs, his parents immediately focused on the necklaces.
"Katsuki; where did you get that?", Mitsuki questioned.
Katsuki didn't answer.
"Katsuki..", his father urged.
A tense silence engulfed the room. Finally, after multiple moments of silence, Katsuki opened his mouth.
"... A friend..."
Masaru put his head in his hands, and Mitsuki came up to her son.
"..Are they from that guy?..", she asked.
"..."
Katsuki's silence was enough confirmation.
Mitsuki sighed and placed her hands on Katsuki's shoulders.
"Katsuki...", she started, "You know you shouldn't take things from strangers-"
The young blond shook his head.
"Deku's not a stranger! He's my friend; I already told you!"
Mitsuki blinked in shock, then confusion.
"Deku?"
Katsuki glanced towards the ground and fiddled with his shirt.
"He said to call him Deku.."
Masaru looked at the clock and sighed.
"We gotta get you to school; But you haven't escaped this conversation."
When Katsuki walked into his classroom, everyone was staring at him.
More specifically, the feather necklace.
He was crowded by the young students, all wanting to see the pendant.
A hand managed to grab one of the feathers, and Katsuki swatted it away, holding the necklace close to his chest.
"Don't touch it!", he yelled.
The teacher finally separated the group, and Katsuki let out a breath of relief.
During recess, the children came over to Katsuki, questioning the absence of injuries.
Katsuki puffed out his chest and grinned smugly.
"My friend has a powerful quirk, and now I'm all healed up! Not even a scratch!", he boasted.
The children oohed and aahed as Katsuki displayed his unmarked face.
The teacher, who just so happened to hear, came over.
"Who is this friend Katsuki-kun? Would you tell us about them?"
Katsuki grinned again.
"Sure! His name's Deku; I met him a few days ago, but he's really cool! He's super tall- like as tall as the ceiling! And he has 3 quirks! He can teleport, make shadows move, and he talked to me in my head!"
The children looked up at the ceiling, eyes widened in wonder at the thought of such a height.
"How did you meet him, Katsuki-kun?"
The blond waved his hand dismissively. "Oh that? He just showed up in my room. Anyway he has these really cool eyes-"
The teacher interrupted.
"What do you mean 'he just showed up'?"
Katsuki shrugged. "He just showed up by my door. I think he was watching me or something. So as I was saying: his eyes were green, then they turned red, and then they were red and green! And he has super sharp teeth! He's super cool!"
The teacher furrowed her eyebrows. "How old is Deku-san, Katsuki-kun?"
Katsuki shrugged again. "I dunno. But he had a deep voice, so he's gotta be an adult."
The children suddenly screamed in excitement.
"Can we meet him?! Please please pleeeaaassseee?!"
Katsuki looked at the teacher, then the other kids. He fiddled with the hem of his shirt and glanced down.
"I dont know if he'll want to talk to anyone..."
"Awww...", the children spoke disappointedly.
"Can you try asking him?", the teacher suggested.
Katsuki pursed his lips in thought. "...I can try... But if he says no, dont blame me!"
He walked towards a corner of the classroom, facing the wall.
Gripping the necklace, Katsuki muttered, "Deku."
Nothing.
He tried again. "Deku!"
Peeking an eye open, Katsuki saw no results.
Embarrassed tears came to the blonde's eyes.
"Deku! Deku! Deku!", Katsuki desperately called, almost shouting.
Nothing.
Katsuki squeezed his eyes shut, preparing himself for the onslaught of mocking laughter.
But, something did happen.
Katsuki's shadow on the wall extended, taller and taller, until it towered over him. Slowly, two glowing green eyes emerged from the darkness.
"What is the matter Kacchan?"
Katsuki flinched at the sudden voice in his head. He opened his eyes, shiny from tears.
Deku tilted his head in concern.
"Why are you crying?"
Katsuki scrubbed his eyes and looked up at the shadow.
"'M not crying.."
"You clearly are."
The blonde sniffed, and reached out his arms. "Up.", he demanded.
Deku crouched down, and swept the child into his arms.
The green looked around the classroom.
"So, where are we, Kacchan?"
"My class. Thats my teacher, and those are random extras."
At their mentioning, the other occupants snapped out of their stunned silence.
The teacher approached the shadow and held out her hand.
"Hello, I'm Kado-ni Kimyōna (2). We've heard quite a bit about you."
Deku put Katsuki back on the floor and stepped out of the shadow, everything to identify him pitch black, except his green eyes. He took Kimyōna's hand and placed a gentle kiss on it's back.
"Hello, my name is Izuku Midoriya. It is a pleasure to meet you Kimyōna-chan."
The teacher blinked, cheeks dusted pink.
"Chan?"
Midoriya laughed.
"My apologizes. You appear to be younger than me, and I tend to be informal with others.", the man tilted his head. "If you do not mind me asking: how old are you?"
The lady giggled and smiled. "I don't mind; I'm 27."
The green eyes widened. "27? You look at least 20!"
"You flatter me Midoriya-san."
The man chuckled. "I do try. And please, call me Izuku; 'Midoriya-san' makes me feel too old."
"Izuku-san. Then call me Kado-ni."
Straightening himself, Izuku looked around and asked, "You mentioned that Katsuki has spoken of me; What, per se, has he told you?"
One of the child spoke up. "He told us you have three quirks!"
With that, the other children shouted out question in their excitement.
"What are your quirks?"
"Why do you look like that? Is it because of your quirk?"
"Why did Bakugou call you Deku?"
"How old are you?"
Izuku laughed. "Please calm down! One at a time children!"
The kids repeated their question, and Izuku managed to answer.
"Firstly, I look like this because I don't particularly like showing my face. Katsuki called me Deku because I asked him to,", he laughed, "and I'm VERY old."
Another kid asked, "But whats your quirk?"
Midoriya hummed. "It is not a 'quirk', per se.."
The children gasped in shock, waiting for the man to finish.
"What is it?!"
The shadow laughed and responded, "It's magic!"
-SLIGHT TIMESKIP-
The children were in their seats, ultimately happy.
Except one.
Katsuki was sitting next to Izuku, pouting quietly.
Glancing over at the man, the blonde became intrigued at the object in his hand. A black tablet lay in Izuku's lap, a red stylus perched between his fingers. His eyes would dart across the screen, and he would swipe left or right, sometimes typing something.
"Whatcha doin'?", Katsuki thought to Midoriya.
The shadow startled, flipping the cover onto the tablet. He eyes glanced at the blond, the away.
"Pardon?", he thought back.
"I asked whatcha doin'."
Sighing, Izuku flipped the tablet back open.
"I'm working, Kacchan."
"Whatcha workin' on?"
Another sigh. "You should be listening to your teacher, should you not?"
"But math is boring!", Katsuki whined.
"It is important, Kacchan. You have to know these things in order to do what you want.", Izuku reasoned.
Katsuki pouted and crossed his arms.
Izuku sighed once more. "How about this: If you listen to Kado-ni-chan, then before your parents pick you up, I'll let you help me with my work."
The blonde's eyes sparkled in delight, excited at the opportunity to learn more about his new friend. He faced forward, vibrating in his seat.
About an hour later the children were getting ready for dismissal.
Katsuki ran over to Izuku, jumping in excitement.
"Is it time now? Is it, is it?!"
The shadow nodded, and beckoned the child over. Katsuki scrambled over to man and reached up towards him. Izuku picked up the blond and placed him on his lap.
Sadly for Katsuki, his parents' cars pulled up in front of the school.
Midoriya snickered. "Apologizes, Kacchan; Maybe another time."
Midnight...
Usually around this time, Katsuki would be lying in bed, waiting for Deku to show up.
This time, Katsuki was sitting on his bed, waiting for Deku to show up.
Eventually, he did.
Katsuki got up from the bed and approached the man.
"Up.", the boy demanded.
The man obeyed and walked towards the bed. He sat, and pulled the boy onto his lap.
"I got you something, as an apology for earlier.", Deku whispered.
Holding out his hand, two square objects wrapped in paper appeared in his palm.
Katsuki took one and unwrapped it, slowly, as not to make any noise. Inside of the paper, were two, small pieces of yatsuhashi: a baked triangle coated in cinnamon and filled with sweet red bean paste. The sweet smell of cinnamon sugar wafted from the pastry and filled the air.
Katsuki's stomach growled, and he immediately inhaled one of the yatsuhashi pieces.
"Do you like it?"
Katsuki nodded, cheeks filled with cinnamon sweetness.
"I see.."
Deku watched as the child swallowed the treat before speaking again.
"The second one is for tomorrow, but you have to eat something first.", whispered the man. He reached over Katsuki and set the second wrapped treat on the dresser.
Katsuki hesitated, but soon asked, "You said your name was 'Izuku Midoriya', right? So why did you tell me to call you 'Deku'?"
Midoriya was quiet, and the blonde thought he wasn't going to get an answer; He began to change the subject, however, Izuku replied.
"...You're special Katsuki, so I allow you to call by my nickname."
"Do you have any other nicknames?"
Izuku gave a nostalgic laugh. "I have many nicknames Kacchan. Lucifer, Dracula, etc. But Deku is my favorite."
With shining eyes, Katsuki questioned, "Do I have a nickname?"
"Yes, Katsuki; Kacchan is your nickname."
Katsuki nodded, and took the second yatsuhashi piece, biting off half of it. He held it out to Izuku.
"Here.", the boy whispered.
"It's for you Kacchan-"
"I want you to eat it.", Katsuki interrupted.
Izuku quieted, all the same, he leaned forward and bit into the pastry. His fangs sunk into the warm flesh of the treat, cinnamon coating his tongue.
Katsuki watched as the green eyes slowly closed, before opening once more.
"I have to go now, Kacchan; You're parents are coming.", Midoriya said, as he stood and laid Katsuki on his bed.
"M'kay. G'night Deku."
"Good night Kacchan."
The door pushed open as Izuku vanished in black and red.
Mitsuki was the first to notice the cinnamon in the air, while Masaru saw the second wrapped yatsuhashi on his dresser.
Masaru sighed. "He was here again, wasn't he?"
But, he didn't get a reply, as Katsuki had already fallen asleep.
