A/N: We always need to see a bit of context behind the scenes, right? I've been slowly developing ideas that involve hinting at other stories during the DM and GX eras, this bonus scene being one of them involving a YGO DM OC I have named Kenji. I think I had Ren mention his name out loud or in his head. Also, this short will give a bit on the mini world building for the HTTYD portion in the YGO 5D's era. Anyway, enough rambling, here we go!

Disclaimer: I do not own How to Train Your Dragon nor Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's. Both go to their respective owners. I only claim my OCs.

Bonus Scene- Disapproval:

(Konnor's POV)

"Plans have been developing nicely," Kenji told me as we walked down the halls. "With Ellis's guidance, Ren could prove to be quite a capable leader."

"That's good to hear," I replied. "I want Ren to have the same confidence as Ellis and Alyssa. With this mission, it'll be another step."

"Sounds like you and Ayame are proud at how much he's come since his academy days."

"You have no-" We were interrupted as a door slammed open behind us along with the booming voice of my father.

"Konnor Shinobu Mori!" he roared. Kenji and I winced at the shout.

"Gods, why does he insist on treating me like I'm still a child?" I groaned, rubbing a hand over my eyes.

"Must be a parent thing," Kenji replied in a low voice.

Father came up to us, hazel eyes glowing in fury. "What is this I hear about you putting this...this...law breaker as your new second?!"

"Head to the office without me. I have this." Kenji nodded and walked off. Whatever he had to say, I didn't want him to say it straight to Kenji. I face the former chief. "Any complaints about that has already been heard and put to rest, Father. The last thing I need o hear is the same drivel, so you might as well calm down."

"'Calm down'?! How can I when you continue making a mockery not only of the family name, but our entire community! He has no right to be promoted to such a position. He proved himself unworthy of even being a rider!"

"Well, as I see it and the rules state, the chief is allowed to put anyone in the position of second. I tried having Shun at the wheel, bu the proved to be abusing his authority, so I stripped him of the title and gave it to someone more deserving."

"Bah! What your brother may or may not have done is of little importance." He waved his hand dismissively. I kept my temper in check, knowing full well that he found what Shun did was not up for consideration for demotion. "How do you think this will look to the other clans? Putting up someone who lost their right to be called a dragon rider by exposing outsiders to dragons? And then also sentencing your student to the same fate?"

I gritted my teeth. Tegan was still a sore subject even after all these years. It was only by some miracle that kept her out of my father's punishing grasps. "That-"

"What if he influences another? I already know about him slipping that brat ways to watch those idiotic races the outsiders do." I stiffened. "How long until-"

"Enough!" I yelled. "I dare you to call my son a 'brat' one more time and see where that leads. Kenji has been more loyal than that so-called brother of mine since the start! He doesn't go around and undermine my authority. He doesn't go around and turn a blind eye to those less fortunate. And he certainly has more empathy in him than Shun, Tarah, and you combined! Kenji may have broken the law and showed Helios to people he shouldn't have, but he still cared for other riders' well-beings despite the shunning and the ridicule. Hardly anything I see from you who would find a way to knock down anyone who dares have a differing opinion."

Father was turning red, but I didn't allow him to cut me off. Not this time. "Remember what you told me? That a chief's word is law and must never be questioned? I'm setting an example that the ones we tossed out as trash are still deserving of respect. Perhaps we need more change than we realize. I can't wait until the day Ellis succeeds me and continues overturning more archaic thinking."

"Fine. Keep putting your faith in that law-breaker, and see where that leads. Mark my words, it'll be the ruin of all of us."

"Well, former chief, I'd be holding my breath for a while then." I turned and marched down the corridor.

I couldn't focus on what my father spout. What could he do? If he tried anything outrageous, he'd be risking his own rider license. He can disapprove all he wants. The only thing on my mind is making sure to help light the path for my family's and clan's future.

A/N: Yeah, I've been coming up with some updates as far as the turmoil in Ren's family. For starters, his paternal grandfather is a bit of a d***, especially in this story line. If I ever get around to writing prequels to Dragons' Souls, we'd probably see more of it. Oh, and Tegan's a relatively new OC I developed for the GX era. I'm still working on her, but she'll make a grand appearance later on in the second part of the story (around pre- or during the WRGP; still trying to figure out where to put it, though). I'll try to put some more info as far as what happened with Kenji and her once I get far enough along. It'll put some more light on why Ren was freaking out about Yusei and his friends discovering dragons. Among some things. Hope you guys enjoyed! And stay tuned for the next chapter of Dragons' Souls!
