The moon bathed the room in a silvery light. A soft sigh came from the bassinette across the room. A dark shadow moved closer to the innocent babe slumbering peacefully in the beribboned bassinette. The grim specter leaned over to see the babe. Two large hands gently lifted the child. The specter nuzzled the downy fuzz that passed for the babes hair. The dark figure sat in the rocking chair, and cuddled the sleeping child close to a heart that was pounding. First with the fear of being discovered, and secondly with the awesome realization that this was the future of his world.

"I love you little mud blood child." The specter whispered. Then he gently kissed the petal soft cheek and breathed in the sweet fragrance that only infants bare. He got up after a while and gently laid the child to rest once again in it's little beribboned nest. Once again he stood over the bassinette, and wished he had enough courage to ask for a place in the little ones life. Too many wrongs that the specter had committed now seemed to keep him bound to the shadows, and clinging like a frightened child to the dark of night. He shook his head to clear the painful thoughts and turned to leave .

The door opened and the mother entered the room. She paused just inside the threshold and gasped at the sight of the dark specter. "Next time please use the front door." She said quietly with a small quiver in her voice. The shadow turned and nodded his head at her request. He heard a small sound, and then saw his son behind the mother. "Father you are welcome to visit." He said quietly so he would not rouse the sleeping child.

"The babe's name?" Was the only response to the invitation.

"His name is Orion Lucius." The mother whispered. The shadow bowed his head and then disappeared

with a pop. In his place on the floor were four shining tear drops.
