Jessica wanted the details of what happened with Edward and I and how did he really find me. Angela was worried if I was okay and I assured her I was. That I'm fine and no harm came against me. After I retold what happened, Angela said she knew that they should've went to the bookstore with me. I didn't want Angela to have any blame for that because it wasn't either of their faults. No one could have predicted something like that would've happened.

After dinner, Jessica dropped Angela and I off to our homes. I planned to call Sam and hoped he was still awake. It was around nine thirty at night by now. Charlie woke up on his recliner and saw me entering the house. I let him know I had a good time and left out the details of what happened with those guys and Edward. Nothing happened to me so he shouldn't need to worry. We both went to bed, but I first called Sam like I promised him I would after I came home from the Port Angeles trip.

After a couple of rings, he answered in a tired, gruff voice. Sam sounded like he just woke up. "Hello...?"

"Oh, uh, hi, Sam. It's me. I'm sorry, did I wake you up? I can call tomorrow if-"

"No, no. It's fine. I did just wake up, but I'm able to talk," Sam suddenly perked up that it was me on the phone. "How was Port A with your friends?"

"Uh, fine, but I ran into Edward tonight, or rather, he ran into me." I decided to tell him.

"You did?" He became in a serious mode now that I've mentioned him. "What did he do? Did he do anything?" Sam urgently pressed those questions to me.

"My friends went to put their bags into the car and I went to look for a bookstore. I found one and bought a book, but when I came out, there were these guys that tried to get me-"

"Neither of them had hurt you, did they?" I swear I thought I heard a growl, but maybe I was hearing things.

"No, they didn't because that's when Edward came and he saved me. He got me into his car and drove to the restaurant where my friends and I was about to eat. I still don't know how he knew we were going to go there," I muttered the last sentence to myself in a mystery. "That's when I told him we should stop being friends. It was getting too much. He saved me two times already and I couldn't figure out how he was there so fast."

"Saved you two times?" He recalled being unaware of the fact.

"Counting tonight and I almost got ran over by someone's van at the school's parking lot," I heard Sam tiredly sigh as if I had endangered myself too much. "Edward wanted me to go eat with him, but I didn't go. I couldn't let him have the wrong idea about us. It felt like something had stopped me. I...I kept thinking of you actually." I admitted a little embarrassed with a blush and was glad Sam couldn't see me.

"You did?" He asked with interest and there was something else in his voice I couldn't detect, but he sounded pleased.

"Yes," I replied and then said genuinely with full of longing, a strong desire to be with him. "I wanted you with me instead of Edward."

"I wish I was there with you. It felt like it's been forever since I've seen you. I missed you."

"I missed you, too." I really did mean it with all of my heart.

"Maybe I should take you to school and bring you home from now on," Sam was determined to do that. I felt like he was trying to keep me safe in his own way. "I don't think I can leave you alone by yourself and especially not with the Cullens."

"Okay," I understood. There was a lot of things I couldn't understand about the Cullens. They were the most mysterious family ever. "On the way there, can you tell me the truth with Edward and his family? It's like I know you have this huge top secret CIA information about them."

"CIA?" Sam chuckled. I hummed in amusement. "I'll tell you." Even though he was a little hesitant.

"You will?" I hoped.

"Promise." There was much sincerity in his voice that I believe him. It's like I felt from him he wouldn't lie to me.

After I gave Sam my address, we talked some more before going to sleep for the night.

I haven't seen him since we were at the beach. The thought of seeing Sam again tomorrow made my heart leap with joy I could barely contain.

Charlie was gone the next morning I noticed as I looked at the window where it was foggy and dark outside. I didn't see his Cruiser so he must be at the police station by now.

While I got dressed for school, I became elated that Sam was going to take me. I would get to see him again and he'd tell me the truth about the Cullens finally.

I just knew there was something totally off about them, but I couldn't put my finger on it. He made me feel extremely uncomfortable, and last night, I just had to protect myself from him. It was like some force had guarded me to be away from Edward last night. I was grateful he saved me from those guys, but I didn't want to lead him on.

After I got dressed, I had a quick breakfast that was just a granola bar and milk. Then the doorbell rang and I nearly stumbled on my own two feet as I approached to the door out of excitement.

I opened it and an involuntary grin spread onto my face as soon as I saw Sam. Nothing much had changed about him. Except I think he may have gotten bigger if that was possible or if my eyes created an illusion. Maybe he was on drugs or maybe hey exercised a lot and it definitely worked in his favor. He had perfectly sculpted bulging muscles. I couldn't understand how he was wearing a short sleeved t-shirt in this ice cold mist. He didn't appear to be freezing.

My own brown eyes met his darker ones.

"Hi, Bella." He stared as if he's awestruck with me, but I couldn't understand what was so appealing and attractive about me.

Sam was perfect and more beautiful than a model. When I first saw him on the beach, he looked like such a serious and stern man. Now, I'm learning to see a different man that he wasn't just a stoic person.

"You're here." I was so delighted that I wrap my arms around his big frame and he did the same to me in return. He pulled me closer to him and I felt his warmth, but I didn't complain about his body heat because it felt nice in this cold weather. There was such a drastic difference that I felt a huge, disappointing loss when he let go of me. The cold had harshly hit me against my skin again.

"Of course I am here," Sam chuckled. "I told you I would be."

Sam led me to his black Volkswagen and I felt the warmth from his car as I got in. We buckled ourselves in and I gave him the directions of my school. His driving was a lot less reckless than Edward's thankfully. Sam drove at an appropriate speed and I didn't have to worry about getting into an accident. His car wasn't luxurious like Edward's silver Volvo, but I didn't care about that Edward's family was rich.

Which reminded me about his promise that he made.

"You promised that you'll tell me information about the Cullens." I mentioned.

"We're just going to jump right into this, are we?" Sam asked with slight amusement. Then he sighed as if he's in a conflict with himself if he should tell me the truth. "I know I promised you, but I can't tell you everything about them. That's Old Quil's job. He's the great story teller. He's a member of the tribal council and very well respected. There's a bonfire for you to listen to the stories. It's about our Quileute legends and involve the Cullens. More about who our people really are. That is if you want to come..." He drifted off unsure about my decision.

"I would love to come and learn more about your tribe, Sam." I accepted his invitation which his eyes had beamed at me with a smile.

"Great! Well...what I can tell you is some about our Quileute legends. My people and I have grown up listening to them and we either take it or leave it. I never really believed in any of them and believed they're just myths. There's people I know who do, too. It just doesn't sound real," Then his voice changed into a low, bitter tone. It was almost as if he's talking to himself. "Until I became one of them..."

"What do you mean?" I asked confusedly.

"We have a legend that the pale faces may view it as superstitious, but it's real for us. Your father may have heard some of it from Billy since they're close friends, but Billy said they clashed over it once which almost ruined their friendship. But they didn't when they learned to respect each other more. It's one of the reasons why we don't really tell any outsiders about our legends. They're just not raised up on it so they won't really ever understand or believe in it."

"I won't think that way like Charlie had, Sam," I honestly told him "I'll believe you. It's a part of your culture and who you are."

That earned another bright and proud smile for me. Happy that I've accepted him.

Charlie and I wasn't religious by any means, but he still was a tradition man and thought with logic and facts just like a cop would. He wouldn't be skeptical of not only by their legends, but any kind of folklore.

There was no doubt in my mind for what Sam would tell me. It was like an instinct to trust and believe in him. The legends was a part of his life that I wanted to know and to learn more about him. Even though we've talked, there was still a lot I really didn't know about him. It's like he's holding back on something that he's still not telling me about himself.

"You're not supposed to tell anyone about this. Not even to your father."

"I'll take it to the grave." I promised.

"This is a legend of ours and it's not a myth like I thought," Sam became serious as he got more into the story. His deep timbre pulled you in. He had that radio show voice or one that you could easily fall asleep to while he reads a story. "We descended from wolves and there's our bloodlines to prove them. My great grandfather, Levi Uley, was a part of the original pack along with Ephraim Black and Quil Ateara the Second. Billy never phased into a wolf and neither did Quil Ateara the Third. Old Quil believes that's because there were no vampires during that generation."

"Vampires?" I sounded more intrigued than I intend to.

Sam winced as if he made an error to introduce something as supernatural as vampires to me a bit too early into the story.

"You know them as vampires, but we call them the Cold Ones. When they're around the lands, they made someone like myself phase into a wolf just like according to our legends."

"So...you're a werewolf?" I asked with interest, but also in disbelief. It was hard for me to believe, but I didn't entirely discard what he was saying.

"Freaked out yet?" Sam asked wryly with a mirthless smile like he really did expect for me to jump out of this car and run away for dear life. I noticed how his hands clutched tighter on the steering wheel out of anxiety.

"No."

He raised a surprise eyebrow at me and was surprised. "How are you not freaked out that I am a beast? A monster?"

"You certainly don't act like you're a monster. You...you don't kill people, do you?"

I couldn't imagine Sam would go out on a murderous rampage on humans to satiate his blood lust as a wolf.

"What? No," He assured. "We protect our people. Werewolves or shapeshifters - would be the correct term - protect our own from the Cold Ones or vampires as you know them. They're nothing like the Hollywood horror movies your people presented them and neither are us wolves. We're built to fight against the vampires who are our enemies. The Cullens are one of them. Their presence caused me to shift into a wolf which hadn't happen to a couple of generations. If the Cullens stay here long enough, there could be more guys who will shift."

"If the Cullens move away, would no one shift?" I wondered.

"Probably, but there are vampire nomads who trespass onto our lands. One of them could trigger someone else to phase. I just want all those leeches to be gone for good. I wouldn't want this curse to happen to anyone."

He hated himself for being a wolf and I understand why. Sam believed he was a monster, but he's not. He didn't act like a monster or a beast to me. Since he was a wolf, I wanted to see his wolf form. To really see who was. I'm fascinated just thinking about what he looks like.

"Can I see your wolf?" I smiled being really interested and curious.

Sam parked his car in the parking lot of the school. I didn't realize we had arrived until he parked. There were people here already walking in and talking to their friends. I didn't want to leave Sam so soon, but I had to go.

"You want to see my wolf?" He asked as if I my question was ridiculous.

I nodded making a positive hum.

"I don't know if that's a good idea, Bella," He shook his head looking nervous. "I don't want to hurt you-"

"You won't hurt me, Sam," I cut him off from his worries. Those words just flood out of my mouth, but I do truly believe them. I got so comfortable and felt protected by Sam that I knew he would never hurt me. "I just know you won't. I believe and trust you, okay? I feel safe with you more than anyone."

Sam had this look on his face like he wanted to kiss me and I strongly felt the same way. The urge was just so strong and powerful. Before I could even think anything else, I felt his hot lips onto mine and we moved right along in perfect sync.

I didn't know how long we've kissed, but I'm enjoying every blissful second. The reminder of being at school was what made me stop our heated make out session.

"I...I got to go to school now." I panted breathlessly trying to get myself back to reality. Even though I didn't want to.

"Okay." Sam said and got out of the car first to open the door for me like a gentleman.

I got out of his car, and on the other side of the lot, I saw Edward's Volvo and parked right next to his was a sexy red BMW convertible. There were the Cullen siblings and I couldn't understand how I didn't realize that they were vampires. I could see it easily now. Their extremely pale almost sickly skin and their topaz eyes. For the sisters, their looks helped them be almost lively with their heavy make up, but everything about the family was unsettling. And fake to portray themselves as humans. Edward's topaz eyes looked at me with a longing gaze, but his eyes read something different to me. A mixture of confusion, jealousy, and something else.

"What is it?" Sam asked, distracting me from the vampire family.

"They're looking at me..." I whispered to him. Not wanting any one of them to overhear.

Sam looked at my direction and saw the Cullens. Their entire demeanor changed once the enemies locked eyes with each other. Edward's and his blonde sister's eyes narrowed down at him almost ready to fight. The others became more tensed and they're trying to control themselves to not charge over here and attack. We're out in public and there shouldn't be a supernatural creature show down.

I heard a low and very deep, animalistic rumble in Sam's chest and stared up at him in shock. He was so close to me that I wasn't hearing things this time.

"Did you just...growl?"

"You heard that?" I nodded in astonishment. "Usually other wolves could hear it."

"I'm close enough to hear you."

"I wish you didn't go to this school with them," Sam pulled me into his strong arms and I found myself relaxing in them. "Just keep yourself distanced from them."

"I will. Promise." I kissed him for one last time and he hugged me.

I nearly had to force myself to get out of his comforting arms and walk into the building. Angela and Jessica was there waiting for me and I knew they wanted to know everything about me and Sam.

"So, who's that huge Indian guy?" Angela asked with a smirk.

"That big and sexy Indian guy," Jessica added being excited for the information. "Does he have a brother?"

On our way to our lockers, I explained to them who Sam was, but of course, left the wolf detail out. We kissed for the first time, but I didn't know if that meant we're dating. If had more time, I could kiss him all day. I didn't know what we were now, but I know what I feel for him.

I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with Sam.

Author's Note: Hopefully, Bella and Sam's first kiss makes up for my long absence. Please review. :)
