It's Been Years

A/N: Everything's in Jack's POV. Anyway, my first fic (and the first "Jacket" fic on fanfiction, from what I can see), so don't be too hard on me!

Disclaimer: I own none of the characters, plot or anything else relating to "The Jacket".

It was her. I swear it was her.

I knew it from the first second she walked by. It couldn't possibly be anyone else. Right now she was nestled in her coat sitting in her car, her hair following the breeze, her face turned upright. She looked the same; just as beautiful as the first time she entered my thoughts.

She is open-minded, loyal, impatient, and slightly paranoid.

Her voice is deep, yet classy.

She's always been longing for someone to be there for her.

Her imperfections make her look absolutely perfect.

In reality, I didn't even know her.

I haven't heard her speak.

I haven't been around her.

I haven't seen her until then, and I knew exactly how she looked like before I saw her there.

I've seen her in my dreams, or was I really dreaming? Will I ever really know? But I've seen her face; we've shared some smiles, a strong embrace as I held her tight... I wish I never let go, but I did. I had to.

A familiar face stared at me. I knew I was being watched and within minutes she was back, her words were pulling me in and as soon as they took hold, they never let go.

It's been a year since than; another cold January night right now, and she's here in my arms.

"Do you remember me?" I whispered. She turned to look at me straight in the eye, looking hardly shocked and said: "You left me, but you came back..."

In the dark, I watched her faint image of a silhouette holding dog tags.
