Heroes Unlimited Saga Episode I
Chapter Two: The Starting Point Part 2
One day, as the sun was rising, the sky was clear, and everything appeared to be peaceful in a large spacious zone of grass. It was surrounded by a forest and had a neighborhood of houses. Each inhabited the residents…however…none of them were residents of Earth.
There was one small house in the forest area. It was white and homey, mainly resembling a nice modern home. All the way at the front, the door began to slowly creek open and the one resident peeked her head out. She was revealed to be…a female anthropomorphic pink hedgehog. Locally known as Amy Rose.
Amy peeked her head out to see if the coast was clear, and it was. There was no sign of anyone around, including a certain friend she was thinking of. So she brought herself out of the house, and in her hands she carried what looked like a large gift basket. She gently tried walking out, shut the door with her foot, and was on her way to a certain place.
She knocked on the door of another house, allowing the resident of that one to come out. Opening the door and revealing to be a female rabbit. She was younger and shorter than Amy, and had a smaller blue creature hovering near her called a Chao.
"Oh good morning, Amy." The rabbit happily responded.
"Chao, Chao."
Amy slowly turned to make eye contact with her friend and said, "Morning Cream and Cheese." She said her name and the Chao's. "You two ready to join me?"
"Definitely." Cream then turned and said, "Mom, Amy and I will be going to Tails' house now."
"Okay. Have a safe trip. I'll be helping with the party later, and please tell Tails I said hi." Cream's mother replied from inside the house.
"Yep." Then Cream shut the door, and she and Cheese followed Amy as they walked away onward to their destination.
"So this is really it?" Cream asked Amy as they walked. "Is today really the day?" But as she looked up, she only noticed her friend staring into space. "Amy?"
"Huh?" Amy snapped out of her trance. "Did you say something, Cream?"
"Yes. I said, is today really the day?"
"Oh. Yep. It's now been a whole year since we defeated the Metarex. And the time when…both Tails and Cosmo gave up so much to help us. Cosmo sacrificed herself and Tails sacrificed his love for her. If it weren't for them, we probably wouldn't be standing here today."
"Yeah. That day was hard on Tails and us, but I'm just grateful that he has been feeling better for a long time. I'm also glad that you've set this up in case he wanted some company for this day."
"No problem. If it's for Tails, then I'm willing to do anything for him." Amy smiled, but also her cheeks blush bright red.
"Oh, by the way, Amy. Did you tell him yet?"
"About the anniversary? No. In case he forgot, I thought it would've been better to surprise him with this first before anything else."
"No, I mean the other thing. The secret you've been wanting to tell Tails for a long time…about how you feel?"
Once Cream mentioned it, Amy stopped moving and she felt hands shaking and cheeks becoming warmer. Cream stopped also, and listened as Amy took a moment to breathe and make a slow sigh.
Then she said, "No. I haven't told him yet. Believe me, I've been wanting to for a long time. Ever since Cosmo died, not only have we and the others been helping him out for a while…I've been hanging out with him more often. And yet I still haven't told him."
"I'm sorry, Amy."
"Don't be. Back when I used to have a crush on Sonic, I was always so used to telling him how I felt. Nowadays, with how peaceful things have been and seeing Tails more…my heart seems to be telling me something different ever since I stopped dating Sonic."
"Well, I don't think that's anything to be ashamed of. I remember Mom once taught me that if you want to do something that's right, it's important to have patience and don't let your fear cloud your judgement."
"I get it. But…still, would telling him this secret really be the right thing to do? What if Tails still hasn't let go of Cosmo and doesn't want to move on?"
"I think it's important to at least give it a chance. After all, you, Sonic, Tails, and everyone are the ones that encouraged me to be brave. So I believe you're more than brave enough to at least talk to him."
Amy took in what she said for a moment, and smiled knowing that Cream was right. So she replied, "You know what, I'm not gonna argue with that. You're right. Maybe…maybe the least I can do is give it a chance and hope for the best."
"Besides, we both know how kind Tails is. If you were to tell him, I think he'd at least be very flattered."
"Yeah." Amy chuckled, and continued blushing. "Plus, don't forget, we're mainly visiting him to share our support with him. He deserves it."
"Definitely, and hopefully he'll again feel good knowing he still has his many friends and his many adventures to remember."
Amy nodded, and soon after, they arrived at Tails's big house/workshop. Like the other houses, it was nice but also big like a military airport. Especially since Tails was known for building stuff like planes.
So Amy turned, and knocked on the door. Then the girls heard a voice say, "The door's open. Come in." They recognized it as Tails. Cream opened the door for Amy and the three both walked in.
Looking around, the three noticed some differences in Tails's house. It was not a mess too much, but all over they still saw wrenches on the tables, some bolts on the floor, and bits of oil near the kitchen sink. Amy and Cream felt a little weirded out, until they saw Tails suddenly come in from the garage.
"Hi guys." He said, smiling yet acting like he didn't really notice them. He sat on the kitchen table, and just used his pencil like crazy on some blueprints of his. While also not noticing there was some oil on his fur.
"Hi…Tails." Cream said.
Amy asked, "Are you doing okay?"
"Huh? Yeah, yeah." Tails said, without looking at them. "I'm just working on some more designs for the next plane I'm building. I just started on this one earlier this morning and I couldn't stop."
"Uh huh."
"But uh…" Tails stopped for a moment. He looked at the girls and then his hands. Seeing the problem he was having. "Right. I-I'm sorry for the mess. Please give me a second to wash." He stood up and washed his hands at the sink. "So how are you guys doing?"
Amy, "We're doing fine. In fact, we wanted to come over today to give you a surprise." She walked over to Tails and handed him the gift basket.
"Wow. Thank you. I love it." He smiled, then slowly placed it on the counter. "But why'd you bring me this?"
Cream, "Well…we don't know if you remember this but today is an important occasion. So we both thought it would be nice to give you some company through it."
"Occa–? Oh. You mean…you guys actually remembered?"
Amy, "Yeah. Today's the first anniversary of when we defeated the Metarex…and when Cosmo helped us…to the end."
Cream, "The day when we thought you could use the attention you deserved."
Tails really felt surprised, seeing two of his closest friends share their sensitivity towards the event. He sighed and decided to say something. "Guys, thank you. Actually, this is really sweet but…can I show you something?"
"Uh huh." The girl replied, and walked with Tails to the garage. But before Amy followed, she noticed a small envelope nearly slip off the basket. She became confused and looked at it, but then blushed highly again when she whispered, "Oh man! I can't believe I forgot about this. Hmm." She moaned in embarrassment and decided to hide the letter before finally following the three.
Tails led them to the garage where his new plane was.
"Ooh." Cream said in amazement. "Is this the plane you were talking about?"
"Yep." Tails replied.
Amy, "It looks amazing. I'll admit, you always seem to impress us with every new thing you build."
"Thanks." Tails blushed. "This one will supposedly be my best one yet. It'll be able to go faster than the X-Tornado, even without a Chaos Emerald, and have more features that'll make it look like a kindergartener's toy. However, that's not what I wanted to show you. What I wanted to show you was this." He walked up to a rolling table, and moved it over for Amy and Cream to see.
It mostly had blueprints, more wrenches and bolts on them. The girls focused on that until they saw something else that stood out more. A pot with a beautiful blue flower on it.
Cream gasped and said, "Tails…is that-?"
"Yep. This is the flower from the seed that Cosmo left behind and Sonic gave to me. Ever since I got it, I've been doing my best to take care of it."
Amy, "Wow, Tails. It looks beautiful."
"Thank you. It's one of the things I have to help me remember her. Speaking of which, I have something I need to confess. Lately this week, whenever you guys, Sonic, or anyone else came by asking how I'm doing, I'd always say I'm doing okay. But the truth is…I'm not."
Cream, "Why not?"
"Because earlier this week, when I looked at my calendar, it made me remember what was coming up. The anniversary of when we stopped Dark Oak and the Metarex, and Cosmo gave up everything to save us. When I noticed it, I've been spending every day trying to occupy myself with other things. Trying to keep myself from remembering what happened, and…" Tails started having tears flow out of his eyes. "…yet it's hard. I just didn't want to have that same feeling as I did when it happened."
"Oh Tails." Cream felt sorry, and hugged her friend.
Amy felt the same way, but instead of hugging Tails, she focused on the letter still in her hand. Then she heard him say, "I'm sorry, I lied to you guys."
"What, no, no." Amy replied. "It's okay. We know how hard that day was for you. It was almost as hard on us too. We lost, actually, two good friends. Cosmo and Shadow did everything to help us, and because of their selflessness, we're here together today. And Tails, you remember that, right?"
"Remember it? How can I forget? Cosmo was my…my friend. She was always a kind and gentle soul, and ever since we fell in love, I felt like my world had changed forever. When we lost her, I was thinking there wasn't anything else to look forward to except getting home and growing the seed. That seed, that flower, it feels like the closest thing I have left to seeing her again. But then…I'll admit, then there was you guys. You three gave me company to help me better and it worked. We've had picnics or times around the beach and neighborhood. Including you, Amy. You have been helping me so much that it did make me feel better. It's just remembering the day of what happened to Cosmo that makes me feel otherwise. Thank you for trying to bring my spirits up though."
Amy smiled, still blushing, and said "You're welcome, Tails. And you're right. We have been putting in an effort to help you. We just both want you to be happy, and to remember everyday that you still have friends that care about you, and that will never forget Cosmo."
"Y-You're right." Tails smiled, wiping his tears away. Then he hugged Amy in a surprise attack. "And you know, you guys are some of the best friends anyone could ask for."
Amy's cheeks felt like they were on fire, feeling that she was being given a numerous level of affection, including when she hugged Tails back and saw Cream smirking at her. Implying that now would probably be the best time to share her thoughts on Tails. So Amy rolled her eyes, and when Tails let go of the embrace, he smiled at her, and she finally spoke.
"Uh, Tails. There's also something else. Tonight, if you're interested…we're actually gonna be setting up a little memorial party for Cosmo."
"Really?"
"Yep. But that's not all. Inside the gift basket, I also included something that I forgot." She took it out and revealed the envelope. "It's a letter. A message revealing something important I've been wanting to share with you for a while. If you're willing to read it."
Tails saw the envelope and planned to take it, but before he could, they heard the doorbell go off. "Oh. I'm sorry, Amy, could please excuse me?"
"Sure." Amy smiled, but hid the letter again and said in her head, "Well that's just typical." Then she thought about something else. As Tails was closing up to the door, Amy was pondering on all the memories she shared with him. All the times they hung out at the beach with their friends, when they helped Sonic save the day from Eggman, and did everything else that was good together. Plus some incidents where their noses accidentally touched, or when Amy accidentally kissed Tails's cheeks when she intended to do that to Sonic.
Remembering the life they shared together made Amy chuckle, even when she looked at the envelope again. It even reminded her that in the past…Tails used to have a crush on her. Dwelling on that made her sigh in disappointment, until she heard Cream's voice say, "Oh, hi Sonic."
Cream had followed Tails to the door, and they were surprised to see it was their friend Sonic the Hedgehog by the door. Amy approached the other room and saw him too, but he hid the letter again, not wanting him to see it.
"Uh, hi…Sonic." Amy stuttered.
"Hi guys." Sonic smiled. "You all doing okay today?"
"Actually, we are." Tails said, with full honesty that time. "We were just talking. Is something going on?"
Cream, "We were told you and the others would be helping out with the party later."
Sonic, "We are, and wait, you already told Tails about that?"
Amy, "Yeah. To be fair, we never agreed on it being a surprise party?"
"Good point. But anyway, buddy." Sonic faced Tails. "I was helping out with the party, but when I arrived home for a bit, I saw this." He held out a small metal box. It was almost shaped like a gold bar but silver, and on it was a dome on top of it glowing a blue light. On its side was a red button that said "Push." It left Tails and the other three becoming "ooh" over it.
"What is that?" Tails asked as Sonic handed it to him.
"I have no clue. All I know is that there was a small note attached to it saying it was for you."
"Me?"
"Uh huh. I couldn't tell if it was from Eggman or not, but I figured you could point it out."
Amy, "Well, let's see it." She looked at it while Tails was still holding it and asked, "It can't be from Eggman, can it?"
Tails, "I don't think so. His traps are usually less subtle than this." He knelt down and examined the box for a second, then said, "Just to be safe, stand back, everyone." The four friends listened. Then finally, Tails pushed the button. In doing so…a blinding blue light appeared, making everyone jump in fear until Sonic carried them to a safe distance in the kitchen.
A few seconds later, the light dimmed down and nothing else happened. Cream stood up from her field position and asked, "What is it?"
"Chao, Chao!" Cheese responded in fear.
Tails, "I don't…huh?" He looked and saw a holographic panel projected from the box.
The others stood up and heard Amy read it aloud. "''This device contains a message for Tails Prower, and will not activate until he and all his family and friends are assembled together. This is important for all of them. Signed, G.E.'" Then she casually said, "Now that's…really weird."
"Well, on the bright side, I guess it really isn't Eggman."
Sonic, "But then who is it? And what's so important about this message?"
Amy, "Well, heck if any of us know. But if it is meant for Tails and all our friends, then I think right now we should gather everyone together."
Everyone nodded, and looked over at the message again before it was time to assemble their team again. Completely unaware of what was coming up next.
Meanwhile in another universe…
COMP: "Message to Recruit #5, successful."
More Notes & Disclaimers:
• "eye contact": Amy mostly had the gift basket blocking her view.
• "Meanwhile in another universe…": This was inspired from that same sign in "Into the Spider-Verse" (Marvel IP). This also implies that the next chapters will focus on the other recruits.
So what did you guys think of that? In case any of you are wondering, yes. Part of this series will focus on the TailsxAmy ship. Something that for some time has been a…well, cute pair to my eyes. Something that'll hopefully be likeable to you readers. I even have an idea that could make it look extra cute. It's sadly not an original since another fan also came up with it, but still hopefully good to use. Also, if you're wondering about Amy and Sonic…that can be explained later.
As for this current part, if you read the first chapter, then hopefully you'll be excited for the next recruits to be shown. However, I may have another writer's block over this since I haven't watched many of these shows in ages. Specifically Code Lyoko, Digimon, Hey Arnold, and Sonic Underground. Some of them and the rest may still be easy to follow.
So still, let me know what you guys think. And before I sign off, let me mention this to Alexriolover95.
Buddy, later on I might send this response again, but thanks again for your response and to your question: Oh yeah! I saw both Sonic movies and they were awesome, including the "reveal" in the end you mentioned. Here's to hoping they use Robert Pattinson to play that character in the third film. Plus, for the franchise itself, let me point out that I do admire it a lot. While I have played some of the games, I think I like the other media more. The movies, TV shows, and if you're interested, the comics have a lot more interesting stories to tell.
That, and many of the characters (including the underrated/obscure ones) are pretty cool altogether.
So with that, see you all next time. If I can, I'll try to share some more chapters to this story and more posts to other news or ideas worth sharing. Please be sure to check them out on DeviantArt, Instagram, and Twitter.
Oh! And one more thing, to make it easier, I may use my author notes to make my "C's Thoughts on…" entries.
