CHAPTER 3. The Hero's Challenge.

"{Previously on Omni Justice.}" Narrated by Ben Tennyson.

Recap on Ultimo who exhales deeply as Vilgax turns to see his army with a huge device arriving in front of him.

"I have defeated your champion! By the rules of the galactic code, as ratified by the Casey-Kelly accords, I claim dominion over this planet." He proclaimed himself victor.

His henchmen Known as Psyphon bow to him. "Congratulations, lord Vilgax, conqueror of ten worlds."

"Prepare the transfer, Lackey." He ordered as Psyphon bow again obeying his master's orders.

At Kevin's Car the Gang are all seated in as they look up at the large computer screen to see Vilgax get blasted by their grandfather at point blank range.

"That's gotta hurt." Ben said.

...And then their grandfather getting slapped aside by said squid alien warlord effortlessly.

"Or at least you'd think it would." Julie said, wincing.

They keep talking about what would be the outcome of this upcoming fight between Ben and Vilgax.

"...I can handle this."

"But it's a Conqueror's Challenge." Kara reminded her Husband. "If what Max said is any indication, the four of us can't help you per the Galactic Code of Conduct."

"So I still think you're gonna need an edge," Kevin said, walking away as the video shut down and pressed a button on the keyboard that lifted a garage door open and they looked inside to see a huge machine of some sort before them.

"Okay, what is that for?" Ben asked.

"You know your Omnitrix?" Kevin asked.

"Yeah?" Ben asked, nervously.

"We're gonna hack them."

"Huh?!" Ben asked, slightly disturbed.

"I don't like the sound of this."

Transition back to Vilgax raising his right arm as his minions chanted.

"WE TRAVEL TO EARTH, WHERE I WILL DESTROY THAT BACKWATER WORLD'S GREATEST HERO -- BEN TENNYSON!"

INTRO SEQUENCE.

DATE: September 11, 2005

TIME: 6:40 pm.

"I don't think this is such a really bad idea." Gwen said.

"Right there with you." Ben said, stepping back as he stood on the opposite side of the table with Ben nozzles above it.

"Relax, guys." Kevin said. "I've been acquiring stuff we need to fix the Omnitrix for months."

"Make that for years when you count the times you were trying to steal it." Ben said, stepping back.

"-Let it go, Ben.-" Kevin whispered.

"It's too risky." Gwen said.

"If Kevin can bypass the safeguards and unlock the Grand Master Control, we'll be able to do anything with them." Ben said. "But then, you guys are kind of right."

"Do you ever think there's a reason they call them safeguards?" Kara asked in a worried tone as Julie agreed by recalling that Ben already had Master control.

"I thought that you already had the Master Control?" Julie tried to recalled the event back in the Highbreed Invasion.

"Azmuth did reward it, but he only unlocked my ability to instantly change forms at will and only every alien I've ever unlocked. I still can't use all the forms."

"I think that's what Kevin has in mind." Gwen said. "He wants to hack your Omnitrix to unlock every form of that thing."

"That's right, if the plumbers' kids couldn't beat Vilgax, just imagine if you had that kind of power he wouldn't stand a chance." Kara nodded as Ben placed his wrist on the scanners.

"I'm in." Kevin said. "Let me see if I can access the user interface."

A green and pink laser beam shone down on the Omnitrixes, morphing them back to their original forms.

"Ooh, sorry."

"Are you sure you know what you were doing?" Gwen asked.

"As much as ever." He said as he pressed a few more buttons. "See? Nothing to worry about."

It was at that point that an alarm sounded and the Omnitrix shined out a brilliant light to reveal a projection of…

"Azmuth?" Ben chorused.

"[Yes, Azmuth, Creator of the Omnitrixe]"

"And we don't think we've ever thanked you for that." Ben chuckled." Really nice of you."

"[This is no time for jests, Ben Tennyson. My disappointment with you is great.]"

"Yeah, the line starts over here." Kevin waved.

"Shut it!" Kara shouted as she glared at Kevin on the behalf of her husband.

"[Once, I believed you possessed the maturity to wield the most powerful weapons in the universe.]"

"And then you paid the slightest bit of attention." Gwen sighed.

"[Wrong. It was only very recently that you have strayed from the hero's path.]"

"But I saved-"

"[I know what you have achieved. That is the only reason that I allow you to keep the Omnitrix. My hope is that you will grow into the role. But the full power of the Omnitrix cannot be entrusted to you just yet. Do not tamper with the Omnitrix, Ben Tennyson. You are not ready.]"

With that, the image dissipated and Ben sighed, bowing his head.

"Whoa." Julie said.

"Seriously." Gwen said. "You really dodged a bullet this time, Ben." Ben on the other tried to shrug these words off however a part of him thinks that this is a trial test from Azmuth but a part of him saying that Gwen might have a point not to tamper with the Omnitrix even though they desperately need an edge against Vilgax.

Seeing Ben struggle with his thoughts Kara flew forward behind him and hugged him.

"Ben, I know this is hard but Azmuth might be right that you're just not yet ready." Sighing at his wife's words he agrees.

"Maybe, maybe not, who knows." Ben sighs. "Thank you Kara, I mean it. A part of me saying that all this difficulty might be just a Trial or Test from Azmuth but a part of me saying that I agree with you and that I may or may not yet be ready to take on this huge responsibility as a hero with a huge burden on my shoulder." He tried to pull away but he found out that he's stuck. "Umm, is that supposed to happen?" He asked. "Ah guys I think I'm stuck!" He proclaimed which worried them all as Kara soon noticed that another alarm blurs through the room as sparklings came out of the equipment like it's overloading as it fired a beam directly landed on the omnitrix.

"Guys, this is not good!" Julie gulped nervously.

"She's right!" Gwen said. "Shut this thing down now!"

"Yes, ma'am." Kevin said as he started typing in commands, only for the machines to start sparking.

"Um, Kevin?" Kara asked as she and the others stepped back. "Did you test that thing before using it just now?"

"Um... no?"

"Oh boy." Ben asked as the machine sparked and overloaded as the laser blasted the Omnitrix started glowing and a holographic interface showed up around both of them. "It's out of control!" He shouted. "Run for it! All of you!"

"Hang on!" Kevin said as the others all crowded around Gwen and she put a forcefield over them as Kevin ran for the twins and tried to help pry Ben's arm off the table, only for the Omnitrix to let loose a magnificent surge of energy, causing the machine to explode in a green light and that section of the headquarters was completely destroyed in seconds flat, burying everyone under a mountain of rubble.
