Silence
Hoshi had never liked silence.
It wasn't because she liked the sound of her own voice or something. It had more to do with the fact that she felt that if it was quiet it meant things were going badly. They had nothing to say or to talk about, wasn't that not good? So Hoshi would always fill the silence with something; a story, a joke, a question. Even if she had asked the question or told the story a million times before, she would do it, just to keep the conversation rolling.
But with him, there was never a need. Sure, the linguist had started out chatting up a storm and filling up the emptiness, but gradually…she didn't have too. Malcolm had taught her things that were never spoken but told so much more than words ever could. For example, when he touched her hand that meant he was listening and focused. When he looked into her eyes that meant all he cared about was her. When he kissed her it was like he was saying "I love you" over and over. Holding her close to him meant he never wanted to let her go.
Maybe silence isn't so bad after all.
AN: Floating around in my head for a bit. I love writing for these characters. :D Reviews are appreciated.
