"That's why I want to be a hero!"

Vin nodded, rolling her eyes. When she arrived at the testing facility she expected to be, well, tested. Not to have to sit and listen to dozens of children talk about their feelings for the past 5 minutes.

Right now, she was listening to the babbling of a short, purple-headed boy. He kept talking about how much he wanted to see things bounce and jiggle.

Vin had no idea what he was talking about. But most of the students around her seemed to be in this program for their own selfish needs. In the old stories she read, heroes were people doing good just because it was right.

These are not heroes, Vin thinks. There are no heroes. Even Kelsier, her mentor who sacrificed himself to spur the Skaa into revolting did it for his own needs.

Only Elend was truly selfless. And it cost him everything.

"Are we sure this is a good idea? Aizawa asks, looking at one of the many screens showing the test areas. He intently watched the screens showcasing two very interesting students.

The first was Midoriya, the so-called 'protege' of All Might. He seemed ordinary enough, hell, less than. The boy has shown no signs of Quirk-usage and doesn't seem to have much of a social life. From what Aizawa could dig up in the short amount of time he had, Midoriya was just any other boy. Nothing new or intriguing.

Nothing physically at least, he reminded himself.

On the other hand, or screen, was Vin.

The girl who claimed to be from another world. A world of demons and hate. Why is it so hard for others to believe she couldn't be just like the other monsters she told stories of? Vin spoke of creatures who could steal a man's face and voice. Could she not be one of these 'kandra'?

Or perhaps, all of it was a lie, a disguise to sneak into the most prestigious school in Japan. Either way, he wouldn't let her out of his sights.

"Why wouldn't it be?" Nezu asked, sipping from his mug as he sat in one of the chairs. "You are the one who wished to test Ms. Venture's strength and ability."

"Not like this," the pro-hero grumbled. "I wanted to test her in a life-or-death scenario, not put her into a training exercise."

Nezu raises an eyebrow, "and is it safer this way? Would you rather have risked her life against Pro-heroes who have trained to kill potential Villains?"

Aizawa frowns but turns back to the screens. If what I am thinking is true, it is our lives who shall be at risk from her.

Before he could dwell on this further, a small screen pops up, with Yamada's face. "Yo yo yo! We ready to go?"

Setting down his cup, Nezu hops down from his chair. "Yes, you are free to begin."

Vin checked her vials for what felt like the 16th time today.

"Okay, start," boomed the voice of Present Mic, interrupting everyone's thoughts. Without hesitation, Vin flared pewter and rushed into the testing area, leaving everyone else behind.

Fools, she thought. In a real fight, you don't get a countdown.

Inside was a large city-scape. Small buildings stood next to each other, creating a labyrinth of cement and littering the streets were large metal beasts.

The faux villains, Vin guessed as she burned iron, pulling herself into the closest one.

The machine crumbled easily, with both the pewter enhanced kick and the pull of iron, she easily smashed straight through. Landing, she turns around, noticing the large red number 2 painted on the front.

2 points, Vin thought before mentally pushing on another. This robot, a 1, was small and light enough for Vin to push into the side of a building with enough force to damage it. Like the first, it shattered easily, breaking into smaller pieces.

Vin frowned, the smaller the number, the less durable they are. Before she could ponder further, the ground began to shake and Vin could hear the sounds of dozens of feet rushing toward her.

Glancing back, she noticed the other students, the ones she left behind, now rushing inside. A few yelled, almost like a battle cry, and others morphed. Bronze, which Vin kept at a light burn constantly, let her recognize many of them activating their Quirks.

However, they were unorganized and only thinking for themselves, and many fought each other for the more difficult 'kills'. Using one of the shattered remains of the automatons, Vin used steel and pushed herself sky-ward, landing on one of the buildings in a crouch.

Looking around, Vin could see many other metal beasts roaming about. Her steel-sight, which pointed to many of the machines through walls and glass, helped her pinpoint many of them. Not wanting to be left out, Vin pushes off the wall and lunges at the biggest machine yet, a 3.

Iron-pulling on it as well as flaring pewter, Vin kicked at its 'face', but unlike the others, this one did not break apart as easily. Instead, it cracked slightly, then swiped at her. Instinctively, she flipped backward, noticing a small fragment of metal and pulling on it.

The piece flew towards her, and Vin easily grabbed it, complementing its sharp edge and size. The 3 reached down for her, smashing its fist into the ground at her feet. Vin twirled the makeshift blade and slightly pulled on the arm, running up its side. As it leaned back, Vin made sure to keep pulling, keeping her feet on the machine.

Running along its arm and onto its body, Vin jumped from the 3's back and wrapped herself around what she would call its neck. Grabbing a handful of cord, she pulls (physically) on them and uses her knife to slice them apart.

The light on the 3's face turns dark and falls to the ground, with Vin jumping back onto another ledge to keep herself from smashing beneath it. Whipping a bead of sweat from her brow, she pulls out one of the vials of metal shavings she keeps on her person. She quickly uncorks it and downs the contents, replenishing her metals. As she swallowed, she took a moment to appreciate the effort the other trainees were putting forward.

Many of them seemed to be handling themselves well. On opposite sides of the 'map', two men were charging forward and destroying machines in their wake. One seemed to make his body more durable, while the other made his skin metallic-like. Strangely, both of their bronze-pulsations were almost indistinguishable.

On the other hand, the strange purple-haired boy from earlier was plucking the bulbous blobs on his hair and tossing them at the machines. Wherever they landed, as he wasn't much of a good throw, they stuck to every surface, forcing some of the monsters to stop in place.

Vin noticed the small train of faux villains he left and flared duralumin, enhancing her next metal. Gripping onto the corner, she flared steel and PUSHED.

All around her, machines, building pieces, and even some students were sent flying, all in the opposite direction of where Vin was sitting. When she felt the pressure on her chest dissipate, Vin opened her eyes to see almost every robot destroyed, injured, or shattered.

But the people she accidentally pushed on, their watches, glasses, even strange machines they attached to their bodies caused them to land in the direct path of other, higher leveled, machines.

Mentally kicking herself, she grabbed another vial and jumped down.

"Did you see that?"

"That was incredible!"

"How strong do you think she is?!"

Nezu smiled, watching the screens that had focused on the young Mistborn's arena. The amount of damage she just ensued was surprising, to say the least, and disturbing to say the most.

She's almost as strong as Toshinori, Nezu thinks. But she lacks the ability to control it. Some of the screens show multiple camera angles of injured partitioners, affected by Vin's attack.

"That'll cost her some points," Shuzenji comments, gripping her cane. "And it'll give me even more work to do."

Nezu chuckles. "In this practical exam, the examinees have not been informed of the number of villains or their locations. They have a limited amount of time in a vast area. But she quickly rushed upward, surveying her environment, then used her abilities to stop as many of the 'villains' as possible."

"At the cost of her allies," Aizawa grumbles. "If a Pro-Hero were to do what she just did, in a heavily civilized area, her license would be torn to shreds."

"True. But that is the reason our school exists, is it not?"

Aizawa leans onto the dashboard and opens a glass case, revealing a large red button with the label 'Motivation Switch'. "Then let's see if she is worth being trained."

Vin landed next to another participant, pushing on the faux villains that was about to grab her. When she turned to face the student, she saw something strange. Or, more exactly, she saw nothing.

Standing before her was a set of clothes, hovering and holding their own figure.

"Oh my gosh!" A voice cried, incredibly feminine, "thank you so much. My Quirk, Invisibility, keeps me hidden, but the mechs can still see my clothes. I keep having to sneak away and cut their wires when they aren't looking."

Invisibility? Vin thinks, remarking on such a useful ability. Tentatively, she burns tin, squinting her eyes and studying the girl.

Vin noticed that she wasn't exactly invisible, her body reflected and shone slightly almost like sunlight through glass. She could almost see the faint outline of the girl's face and body.

Before Vin could ponder on this more, a loud explosion bursts around them. Vin, who was burning tin at the time, screams and clutches her ears. She quickly snuffs the metal, but it was too late, the loud sounds of buildings falling and the initial boom crippled her senses.

"Ar… ou… k...?" Vin hears through the loud ringing noise. She feels a hand on her back, almost comfortably. Usually, she would have pushed it away, but not even she could have focused on anything through the pain.

Toru Hagakure wasn't what people called a "negative person", but when she found herself in a city of dangerous robots, with no weapons, and the one person who was nice enough to help her collapsed, even she started to worry about her chances.

Especially when they became shadowed by the largest robot she had ever seen. It rose above the tallest buildings and was almost as big as the entire street.

And was downright terrifying.

The fourth villain! Hagakure realized, shocked by its size. Please don't look over here, she prayed.

Sadly, her prayers fell on deaf ears and the 4 turned its massive head towards where she sat crouched next to the strange girl.

Hagakure shook the girl's shoulder, "We need to move!" However, she didn't seem to hear, moaning, and clutching her head with her palms. As the giant mech lifted up an arm, she grabbed the girl and pulled her towards one of the buildings.

Inside, the girl seemed to come to her senses. Her eyes opened slowly as Hagakure carried her to a seat.

"Thank you," she mumbled.

Hagakure smiled, "you're welcome! It wouldn't have been very hero-like to leave you out like that. I'm Toru Hagakure, by the way. What's your name?"

The girl seemed to study Hagakure, actually study her. Not just look in her direction, not just through her, but actually see her.

She would have given anything to be seen like that always.

"Vin Venture," the girl answered, rubbing her forehead.

Hagakure frowns and reaches for Vin, "are you okay?" Faster than she could see, Vin grabbed her arm. Actually grabbed it.

She really can see me

Vin let's go almost immediately, "I'm fine. What was that noise?"

"I think it was the fourth villain Present Mic was talking about. It was soooo big! It's honestly incredible that UA has such an impressive machine!"

"Right," Vin answers slowly, almost as if she didn't understand what Hagakure was saying. "Yamada said there was no reason to fight it. We should stay here, there probably isn't much time left anyway."

"Yamada? You know Present Mic? Wow!" Hagakure smiles energetically. She pauses, realizes she might be coming off as too hyper and takes a breath. "How many points are you at?"

Vin thinks on this for a moment. "Somewhere in the mid 40's," she guessed, shrugging her shoulders.

Hagakure's invisible jaw drops. "That many?! I've only gotten, like, 15!" She turns to run back outside, desperate to do what she could to get more points.

"And that concludes the entrance exam, folks!" Present Mic's voiced boomed. "Make sure you don't forget anything as you leave!"

"No!" Hagakure cried. That was it, her only shot.

Vin stood up and rested a hand on the invisible girl's back. "Don't worry too much. You helped me, that'll even your odds."

Hagakure looks up at the strange girl, "what do you mean?"

"Yamada, Present Mic, said unheroic actions would be penalized. He never said anything about heroic actions."

"You think that there's another testing system?"

Vin nods. "What kind of 'hero' exam wouldn't test heroic actions?"

The invisible girl rubs her eyes, "I guess… But do you think I did enough?"

"You saved someone," Vin comments, "that's always enough."

Aizawa didn't know what to think anymore. First, Vin had destroyed dozens of the faux villains in a single move, then Midoriya had somehow jumped into the level 4's mechanical face and destroyed it with a single punch.

A single, freaking punch, he kept thinking. No one, no one, had done what he just did since the robots were implemented.

"This year certainly seems to hold a good selection of students, doesn't it?" Nezu asks.

For once, Aizawa didn't have anything negative to say. But he was sure he would find something to comment on later, he had a reputation to maintain.

Toshinori Yagi, the secret identity of the world's number one hero, was beaming with pride as he watched Midoriya punch the level 4 on repeat. The strength he used to defeat his foe was stupendous.

"Oh, my!" He exclaimed, quickly expanding into his muscle form. A few other heroes who helped watch and grade the participants turned and looked at this, smirking and laughing at Yagi's outburst.

"Proud of your student?" Nezu asks, with Aizawa closely behind him.

"Indeed! What a spectacular performance!" He adds. Coughing up blood, the Pro-Hero turns back into his normal form. "He will definitely be one of the greatest this world has ever seen."

"That's if he even gets accepted," Aizawa critiques. "From what I saw, the boy didn't destroy a single robot."

Nezu chuckles, "now, now. We all know that defeating the 'villains' were not all the students are being graded on." Before he could continue on this, Ken Ishiyama, the Pro-Hero known as Cementoss, leans down and taps him on the shoulder.

"Nezu sir, we might have a situation."

"And what would that be?" the mouse asks, sipping from his mug.

"Two of the students that took part in today's entrance exams are refusing to leave the testing area. They claim they need to speak with you."

Aizawa groans and rubs his eyes, "this is what I get for not bringing my bag."

Alrighty then! Anotha' one! Hooray!

I'm sorry if this chapter felt short or ended abruptly. I really wanted to focus on Vin's fighting prowess this 'episode' and I couldn't really find a good way to stop.

Anywho, I really enjoyed writing Vin being a freaking bad*ss. In Scadrial, a Mistborn is a dangerous person, but in a world of metal and technology, a Mistborn is even more dangerous.

Vin is definitely going to be more powerful than a lot of Pro-Heroes, and even more skilled as well. Granted, Midoriya/All-Might and Aizawa are two of the few Heroes I would actually classify with 'good' quirks. Yes, you got some people that can use them uniquely, but a lot of them just seem to be examples of playing "Best, worst superpower."

That is just the current thinking I have. I know some people, Icy-Hot, will give her a substantial difficulty because he and his suit require nothing metallic.

That's enough debate-material for now. Also, Vin made a friend! I have a really good plan for connecting Vin and Hagakure. She's such an underdeveloped character that I really want to try my own take on her thoughts/feelings/background. I hope y'all don't mind too much.

Please be aware that I do have classes and I'm now struggling to juggle 2 jobs along with 3 stories. I am going to continue updating each of my stories as scheduly as possible.

One last thing, over 260 views! Let's see if we can reach 400 by the next chapter (that's 3 weeks from now).

Yohanl2001: No, you're fine! I don't NEED reviews, but they really help boost my morale and reason to continue writing. Vin will probably continue to be a detective, maybe even roping a few other students in with her. I really hope you enjoyed this chapter, a lot of Vin being awesome.

Celestia's Paladin: I'm glad I was able to surprise you, then! I'm honestly using MHA to really practice my writing. It has me juggling many, MANY, characters while Metal Like Roses has, max, 10. Allomancy is very easy to pass off as a quirk, but definitely more powerful than most of the ones we have seen. I really hope to be able to show off Vin's 'kindness' and how she learns that she has the heart of a hero, even if she doesn't believe or know it. Her Mistcloak will DEFINITELY be a part of her uniform. Thank you so much for sharing! I hope the others on it enjoy this story as much as I think you are.

Please, feel free to follow and comment on predictions, thoughts, etc. I am always looking for new ways to improve my craft. Tell your friends!

Also, if you have the money, please think about supporting me. Maybe one day I won't have to juggle 2 jobs and can spend more time writing.
