I sighed, dropping my bag to the ground next to my new bed. Around me, my friends were entering the apartment. It was a simple apartment, with two rooms (one for boys, one for girls), a simple enough kitchen, a pretty standard living room, and two and a half bathrooms.
"I'm checking for any trackers in here," said Atalanta, fiddling with a device in her hands. Tinkertech, of course. She was dressed in a simple black button down skirt and black sweatpants, both with lines of hacker green along the seams.
"Thank you, Improv," I said, "Detecting any?"
"Lighten up, Atraxa," laughed Jace, who was wearing a blue cloak that looked straight out of a movie. "We just got released! We're finally free!"
"Not really, Jace," I sighed. "The mission still comes first. But I will use your names, at least until Improv detects anything."
"Roger that, boss," he joked.
Shaking my head, I turned to Atlanta. "Got anything, Atlanta?"
"Not picking up anything. We should be in the clear."
"Great," said Cloud. "I'll make dinner."
Amazing first day away, I thought sarcastically to myself. Oh, did I mention that we're supervillains? Must have slipped my mind. We, Atraxa (that's myself, by the way, and my cape name is Praetor), Jace (Mindbreaker), Cloud (Lotus), Jaydin (Blink), Sorin (Bloodstryker), and Atalanta (Improv) make up Core Alpha of a villainous organization called the Shadow.
We were raised together since we triggered, which was between two and three years old each. Our powers simply fit together super well to make up one of the best teams of Supervillains in the world. Honestly, we might actually be able to take down Slaughterhouse Nine, depending on their current members.
Either way, when each of us turned sixteen, we were finally let loose into the world, with a trust fund in the bank and one goal: do what the Shadows commands. After all, there's nothing better than serving an evil organization of Supervillains from birth. Nothing wrong with that at all.
"All right, guys!" I announced, interrupting the chatter that had started up while I was lost in thought. "Let's grab some dinner and go to bed. Lotus, you volunteered to make it? Great. We need to be up by six tomorrow to meet Sovereign. Kay?"
Lotus smiled. "Hey Jace, can I get your help? Your powers might come in handy."
"Sure thing."
