Ochako Urakara had been raised under the philosophy of karma. Good acts should lead to good results, as well as bad ones leading to cruel results.
However, sometimes karma (or fate) needed a helping hand. Midoriya, a small, timid boy she met while waiting for the entrance exam to begin, hadn't had the best of luck. From what she heard, Midoriya didn't get a single villain point.
But, despite that, he had used his Quirk to save her. He was able to defeat the level four faux villain in a single punch, saving the young girl from being killed by the gigantic automaton. The attack shattered Midoriya's legs and arm, leaving him helpless as his broken body fell back to the earth.
Luckily, Urakara was able to lift herself upwards with her Quirk, Zero Gravity, and save him. After riding some of the rubble she was previously trapped under, she was able to use her quirk on the boy while he was in free fall, stopping his descent towards the cement below.
Did that make them even? Maybe. But she still felt bad for him, especially when she had to slap him across the face for her Quirk to activate.
So Urakara decided to stay behind as the other examinees left. Some, like Midoriya, had to be taken away in stretchers so Recovery Girl could help heal their injuries, but the majority had all left.
Everyone, except for her and the other girl.
The other girl had this… presence around her that freaked Urakara out. It was like she was always on edge, every shift in the rubble seemed to make her twitch, and not once did she smile.
As Urakara stood inside the entrance arch to the exam area, with the strange girl tapping her foot.
"Um," Urakara began, "I'm Ochako Urakara, what's your name?"
The girl turns to Urakara, almost as if this is the first time she is acknowledging her existence, and frowns. "Vin," she mutters after looking the girl up and down, judging her.
Urakara shivers slightly under her gaze. "Nice to meet you… Were you trying out for the Hero course?"
An eyebrow is raised on her face, silently asking why else would I be here?
"Did you pass?" She asks Vin, desperately hoping for more than a one-syllable answer. "Or, do you think you did?"
Vin didn't respond with a single-word answer. Instead, a simple nod.
"Oh… that's nice."
A few moments pass as Urakara waits for one of the school's staff to come up to them, she wanted to plead for Midoriya's case.
Once again, she finds herself talking to Vin. "Why are you here?" Urakara asks.
Vin sighs, "I need to talk with Nezu."
"Nezu?!" Urakara exclaims, "you know Nezu?!"
Vin nods slowly, Urakara's excited nature obviously surprising her.
"Wow!"
"Why, thank you. I didn't realize my name could spark such a joyous remark," a small voice comments. Both Urakara and Vin look up and see a mouse in a suit, with a large scar on his eye, pit-pattering towards them with a small entourage of pro-heroes.
"Now," the mouse, Nezu, squeaked, "why is it you two so desperately wanted to see me?"
"Nezu, sir," Urakara begins, "I wanted-"
"Hey, kiddo, why don't you get changed first," Present Mic interrupted with a wave of his hands. "Little miss," he says, pointing to Urakara, "I'll escort you to one of our changing facilities, then you and I can talk this out? That work for ya?"
Urakara looks back at Vin, her gaze not leaving Nezu's, before answering the pro-hero. "Yeah… Sure…" She turns back to the strange woman who barely spoke 5 words to her and gives a small wave. "Good luck, Vin."
The only response she gets, is a small nod in her direction.
As the girl followed Yamada, Vin pointed to the test area behind them. "Was this necessary?"
Something sparkles in the mouse's eye, "whatever do you mean?"
"This test… It's faulty," she specifies. "And there was no need for me to take part."
Nezu chuckles. "Aizawa wished to see if you were telling the truth or not. Truth be told, I think he has his answer."
Behind Nezu, the pro-hero stiffens and coughs.
"But yes," the principal sighs, "this exam does focus more on those with more… physical quirks. However, there will be ways for students to prove themselves throughout the school year."
Vin frowns, thinking about all the strange types of quirks she has learned about in her studies. Fighting robots was definitely not one of the best ways to test someone's quirk but it did allow for the staff members to see who's quirks are more combat-ready. Why waste training someone when you can have a small army ready to go?
"Why, might I ask?" Nezu smiles, turning to the Mistborn.
"That girl I met, the one that I could see through. She saved me and I owe her a debt." Vin responds, burning zinc to riot his pity and hopefully influence him into feeling bad for the girl.
Sighing, Nezu shakes his head. "I'm sorry, the test results cannot be changed."
"Not even if I give her my villain points?"
"No," interrupts Aizawa, "trading villain points is not allowed."
Vin's frowns deapens. "And what about the other ones?"
"The other ones?" Nezu asks, a smile forming on his face.
"Yamada said there were villain points," Vin remembers, "but he never clarified if that was all there was to be graded upon."
The mouse smirks and looks back at Aizawa, "I told you she would figure it out."
"You said nothing," he grumbles, "I warned you she might have realized it, not the other way around."
I was right, Vin thinks, her face remaining emotionless and stoic.
"But yes," Nezu answers, "there was more to this test than just villain points. Since we are a hero school, there are also points given for heroic acts. Helping others, defending them from attacks, or even just giving directions can all accumulate in 'hero points'."
Hero points? Vin thinks, realizing her suspicions were true. "Then what's the point of the machines?"
"You can't truly test someone's willingness to help until they are in a life or death scenario," Aizawa explains. "The 'villains' put everyone under duress and we watch them to see how they react."
"From there," Nezu continues, "we score students based upon combat-capability and rescue tenacity."
So Hagakure still might have gotten in, Vin thinks. "Does that mean one can get in with just hero points?"
"Yes, I suppose so," Nezu answers.
"Then she has a chance," Vin mutters.
"Hmm?" Aizawa frowns, "what was that?"
A small blush flares across the Mistborn's face. "Nothing… What's next?"
Nezu hides a smile behind one of his paws and gives a small cough. "Yes, well, we were on our way to check up on Shuzenji and her patients. Aizawa wanted to ask about one in particular."
Vin frowns, "who?"
"That kid you're always with," Aizawa glares, "Izuku Midoriya."
That boy with the hair, Vin remembers. "Can I come with you? I want to make sure he's okay," she lies. Maybe I can learn more about what happened that night, she thinks as Nezu and Aizawa head towards the nurse's office.
During his entire life, Midoriya never had an injury as painful as this. He's had about as many scrapes and cuts as any other kid his age (as well as a few burns from Kachan's explosions) but this was an entirely new feeling.
After getting a quick peck from Recovery Girl, most of the pain had dissipated but it's still hard to forget the feeling of 3 broken limbs, some of which had been shattered to pieces.
Luckily, as he lay in the school's nurses' office, he could start to feel his fingers again and his toes twitched.
So this is why I needed all that training, Midoriya thinks as he struggles to close his fist. Most of the other testees had left by now, their injuries being nothing more than a bruise or a headache. As he begins to close his hand, the door creaks open and out steps a few familiar faces.
Nezu, followed closely by a man with long, unkempt hair and Vin steps inside. The mouse gives a small nod to Recovery Girl, who is sitting behind her desk, and walks towards Midoriya.
"How are you doing, young man?"
Midoriya gulps slightly, "I-I-I'm fine, Nezu, sir. T-t-t-thank you."
The mouse raises an eyebrow, "both your legs and right arm were, how did you put it?" Nezu turns to the shaggy-haired man.
"Impotent putty-noodles," he responded.
"Yes," Nezu smiled, "that. So we came to see how you were feeling. I'm sure our Recovery Girl has been doing her best to get you up and about as soon as she can."
If Midoriya could have nodded, he would. However, the best he could give has a slight twitch.
Nezu gives a small chuckle and places a paw on his shoulder. "Don't worry about moving, we didn't come to yell at you, just to check up on one of our possible students. But someone else does seem to be worried about you…"
The small mouse turns to Vin, who frowns and (possibly) holds back a slight redness on her nose.
"I was only worried for his well being, nothing else," she whispered.
Tears begin to well up in the green-haired boys eyes, "y-y-y-you were worried about me?" He sniffles a few times before saying, "thank y-y-you!"
Vin nods swiftly and Nezu's smile grows larger. "I think we shall give you some time to yourselves. Aizawa, I need your help with something."
The shaggy man, Aizawa, grumbles and stuffs his hands into his pockets before turning around and following the principal out the door.
When the door swung shut, Vin's head swiveled towards Midoriya. "How do you know All-Might?"
Midoriya's eyes widen, she knows?! "H-h-h-h-he is h-h-h-h-helping me with my Q-Q-Q-Quirk, t-t-t-t-that's all!"
Vin glares at the boy, "really?"
"Y-y-y-y-yes," he lies.
Midoriya watches as Vin frowns and steps towards him. Before she could reach him, Recovery Girl steps between them and she places her can in front of the girl.
"Now, now. I'm still healing the boy. Don't go breaking him all over again," she interrupts before giving Midoriya another kiss on the forehead.
Midoriya sighs and he feels his eyelids droop.
"You should be all healed up by tonight," the pro-hero explains.
Vin looks down at Recovery Girl as she steps away, heading towards her desk. The strange girl leans down towards Midoriya as he feels sleep begin to call to him.
"What did All-Might give you?" She asks, "on that night on the beach?"
Whether it was the sleep, or something else, Midoriya couldn't stop himself from telling the truth. He just didn't feel worried at all about her knowing this secret, instead felt a deep, almost primal, desire to tell her everything.
"He gave me… his…power," he mumbled as the darkness enveloped him, pulling his consciousness into a deep sleep. "One. For. All."
I'm sorry. I'm so very, very sorry.
Work has been a pain (seasonal jobs right during Halloween are stressful) and I just haven't had the time to truly write a good chapter. It's not just this story, most of my other Fics have been getting smaller and smaller chapters.
But I didn't want to just hold onto this for a while then post it randomly. That is why I am going to post this then going on a small break. It won't be long, just for a few weeks and then I'll come right back. I want to finish my jobs and then focus on classes for a bit.
I'm very sorry. But I promise I'll make it up to y'all.
Now, this chapter didn't have much, I am aware. Just a couple PoVs to wrap up the prelims. I want to have more Midoriya and Vin scenes since they are the two stories' main characters. Next chapter, I'll have them talking.
Also, there is a week between the test and the results, a lot can happen in a week.
Can I also say we are at 360 views? Yay!
Dragonrider314: Thank you very much. I hope this lack of an update doesn't change that view. I won't stop, just pause. Again, I'm sorry. But, might I ask why you prefer this Fic over my others? Or is it just a personal opinion?
Neztro: Thank you! There aren't enough Cosmere crossovers on here and I hope to rectify that (especially before the movie is made). I honestly do not know. On one hand, yes, Elend is very similar to Midoriya (or vice versa). But I really enjoy Urakara x Midoriya, so maybe. I don't know yet, so maybe. I hope that answer is okay.
Yohanl2001: OP Vin is always fun to write, but I can't have her completely able to dominate everything. This is a world with hundreds of thousands of different types of powers, so someone somewhere might have seen something similar. I cannot wait to develop more between Hakagure and Vin, both of which have (in my opinion) some strong connections and similarities. Thank you so much for your kind words, I'm good, just not great. Still healthy, just overworked with two jobs. Thank you for your worry, and I'm sorry if this newest chapter didn't have anything interesting to enjoy.
Scoolio: Thanks! I'm glad you enjoy this Fic and I hope you stick around to enjoy more of it.
Please, feel free to follow and comment on predictions, thoughts, etc. I am always looking for new ways to improve my craft. Tell your friends!
Also, if you have the money, please think about supporting me. Maybe one day I won't have to juggle 2 jobs and can spend more time writing.
