Homeroom

Unlike the first day, everyone was quiet when the first bell rang. Aizawa, somehow, again avoided Vin's watchful eye and entered without her notice, once again making her curse over her inability to use tin in this sensitive world. Meanwhile, the female classmates Vin had pushed away last night seemed to try and continually reach out to Vin, only for her to ignore them.

For some reason, her heart stung each time she shrugged off one of their advances.

Why? She thought. Why do I feel this way? No, why do they make me feel this way?

The kindness her teammates consistently offered was troubling to the Mistborn. It confused her even though she knew it shouldn't have.

I trusted Kelsier and he died. I trusted the mist-being and he betrayed us. I trusted Elend and he-.

Vin shook her head. There was no need to go down that path again.

After Aizawa excused herself and the rest of class 1-A to begin the school day, Vin was quickly cornered by one of her peers.

"I wanted to apologize," Momo started, her hands clasped together. "We didn't wish to make you upset last night, only to wish you a quick recovery. I should have realized you were exhausted and wished to partake in a day of rest after our first day of training."

Just like the night before, Vin was taken aback by her classmate's kindness. First they tried to check in on her and now this girl was apologizing for Vin's own behavior?

Lord Ruler, what is it with this world?

However, Vin remembered her training under Sazed all those years ago and performed a small curtsy. "Please, your apologies are unnecessary. It was I who was in the wrong."

Momo frowned for a moment before smiling kindly. "Yes… I see. Still, I do feel some guilt for the events that transpired. Is there anything I can do to help you?"

"No-" Vin paused. She quickly remembered Momo's Quirk from the day before and how useful it could be for her. Still, something inside her churned in response to her using this innocent girl for her own uses.

She offered to help, another part of her argued. I'm not forcing her to do so.

But you would have.

Momo nodded to Vin's reply. "I'm sorry. I didn't think-"

"Actually," Vin interrupted, "I was wondering if you would be willing to help me with my Allomancy."

"Your Quirk?" Momo asked with a frown.

"..Yes."

The girl smiled. "Of course, it would be my pleasure." Before they could continue, the bell rang again, reminding students to head to class. "I'm sorry. I've forgotten the time. Is it all right if we continued this conversation at lunch?"

Nodding in response, Vin curtsied again. "Thank you."

As the two girls, along with other more panicked students, headed to their first class of the day, Vin's outlook on the day began to shift to a lighter tone.

English

Sadly, Yamada was one of the teachers she was assigned to and quickly made Vin's mood sour. Even worse, his English class was the first one scheduled after Aizawa's homeroom.

While he wasn't in 'Hero-mode' as he described it in one of his podcasts-the Pro-Hero had forced her to listen to a few of them-he still wore his costume. Apparently, he found a personal enjoyment of utilizing his Quirk to scare half-asleep children dozing off in his class.

Something Kaminari learned first hand.

"Which of these English sentences is wrong?" Yamada asked, referring to the board behind him.

"It's so normal," a few students mumbled, summoning the teacher's gaze. As he turned, he noticed the yellow-haired boy slump backwards in his seat with an impressively large snot bubble bloating from his nose.

"HEADS UP" The pro-Hero boomed from the front of the classroom, shocking the tired students out of their daze. Kaminari almost lept out of his seat, but the desk in front of him held him in place. With a whimper, he turned forward to the screen.

"Let's get this party started!" Yamada resumed in his normal voice. "Who knows the answer?"

Behind Vin, Momo raised her hand and answered, "The relative pronoun is misplaced in number four."

"Yeah, Yaoyorozu, come on!" was the Pro-Hero's response before returning to the book in his hand.

The Mistborn looked back up at the board behind Yamada. While Vin wasn't fully able to follow Momo's reasoning for choosing the incorrect answer, she could definitely read the sentence. Strangely, ever since she got her, Vin has had no difficulty speaking or reading this world's languages.

To her, it was as if they were all speaking Scadrian. However, certain words did tend to skip through at moments.

"Deku," Bakugo muttered while glaring at Midoriya, his red eyes dilated and burning crimson.

Math

Why in the Lord Ruler's name would one person ever need this many watermelons?

Vin sat begrudgingly in yet another unnecessary lecture. This time, she had to listen as Ectoplasm drawls on about mathematical solutions and equations that will supposedly help her in hero work just as much as physical training.

Like Yamada, Ectoplasm wore his hero costume as he teaches. However, Vin couldn't help but notice he wore a larger leg-prosthetic in his normal activities than when he was patrolling. Most likely he preferred a lighter one when he was working so he could match a villain's speed.

"Ectoplasm excels at close range combat despite not having his legs anymore. Thanks to combat prosthetics, Ectoplasm's fighting style consists mostly of kicks in close range combat."

Vin cast a quick glance behind her and frowned as she listened to Midoriya mumble. The teenage boy had his head down, writing in a booklet she couldn't see the cover of.

What's he doing? She thought.

Computer Science

Hagakure sat next to Vin when they were being assigned computers. UA spared no expense when it came to offering the best. Every student was provided their own laptop to use for the class, however, they had to remain on school grounds.

The Invisible girl looked around and watched as their teacher, the imposing Power Loader, began to distribute said laptops. Luckily for her, she was starting with the row completely opposite from where she and Vin were.

Giving her more than enough time to get something off her chest.

"Hey, Vin?" she starts, fidgeting in her seat. When the girl looked at her (not just near her), Hagakure clutched her hands to her sides and asked, "are you okay?"

Vin paused before opening her mouth to respond. "What… do you mean?"

Hagakure gulped. "It's just… you seem sad. Yesterday you were crying and running from us when we asked about your Quirk. And today you kept avoiding us."

"I was just tired," the girl responded, turning back to the front of the room. "It wasn't anything important.

However, Hagakure remembered how the girl laughed at their approaches in the nurse's office. Colds don't turn people into maniacs, she thought. She placed a hand on Vin's, ignoring how it jumped when their skin touched.

"I'm here if you need anything," Hagakure whispers. "I'm your friend, please tell me what's wrong."

Before they could continue, Power Loader stepped up next to them and handed each girl a laptop. Vin took this moment to take her hand back and grab the computer.

"If you download anything illegal, we'll know," he commented before heading back to the front of the classroom.

"Thank you."

Hagakure looked up from her laptop and turned to her right. "Wassat?"

Vin shuffled in her seat. "Thank you. It… It means a lot to me for you to say that."

With a gasp, Hagakure spread her arms out for a hug, only to have Vin hold up a hand.

"However," she continued, "it was nothing more than a momentary sickness, nothing more. If you let it go, I'd be more than willing to… be your friend."

"Deal!" The invisible girl smiled happily, knowing she made progress in cracking her friend's icy-exterior and started powering up her device as Vin stared at her own.

"What's wrong?" Hagakure asked as she began personalizing the home screen with kittens.

The strange girl doesn't answer at first, instead electing to grab the device and lift it above her head.

Hagakure quickly sprung into action waving her hands wildly. "No, wait!"

Literature

Luckily, there were no more digital and electronic lives lost in the next class. Professor Cementoss kept his classroom a relaxing mixture of a library and workshop. However, this lead to a new problem.

Vin seemed more… hesitant walking into this classroom than her other classes.

"What's wrong?" Hagakure asks as they step inside.

"He would have loved it here," she responds in a hushed, almost reverent, whisper.

Hagakure frowned. "Who?"

Instead of responding, Vin shakes her head and offers a small smile. "A friend."

"Oooh," the invisible girl giggles. "Is it a boy?"

"Why would you think-"

"Ahem, a voice behind them interrupts." Both girls quickly turn around and look upon the large, grey face of Cementoss. With a slight huff, he grabs the door and motions for them to follow. "Class will be starting soon. Might I ask you to keep this conversation kept outside while you two head inwards?"

"Fine," Vin responds while Hagakure nods apologetically.

He really would love this.

Vin sat quietly in class as she listened to Ishiyama's lecture. Strangely, he was one of the few staff members Vin found she could almost enjoy. He obviously had a lot of love for his course and Vin couldn't help but feel a bit reminded of how excited Elend was whenever he received a new collection of leatherbounds.

Sadly, her classmates didn't have the same level of enjoyment she did for literature. When Ishiyama began distributing assigned readings, most students groaned as he continued to add more novellas to the list, as 'extra credit' he stated.

"And by that," Ishiyama clarified, "I do not mean to imply these readings are not required. They in fact, are." More students groaned. "The extra credit will come from those who truly wish to browse the writings of our greatest minds."

Vin looked down at the list and read over a few of the titles. Shakespeare, Flowers for Algernon, Skyward. She smiled softly and circled a few of the stories she thought Elend would have liked.

As the bell rang, Vin packed her things and fell into line with Hagakure.

"So," she asked," what do you wanna get?"

Lunch

"White rice is a great comfort food, isn't it?" Lunch Rush happily asked with a proud thumbs-up.

Hagakure returns his gesture in kind and happily asks for seconds while Vin grabs a loaf of bread. As they walk their trays off the line, Vin notices Momo waving and walks up to her with her invisible friend close behind.

Unbeknownst to her, as she makes her way close to a lunch table, Momo wasn't alone. Also sitting at the table were the same group of girls from before, minus Urakara who was sitting with Midoriya and Iida a few tables over.

"Hey!" Mina called out, quickly jumping up and grabbing Vin's try. "I'm so, so sorry about last night. I didn't know you were sick-"

"We didn't know she was sick," Jiro clarifies.

"-we didn't know you were sick and we feel really, really bad about it!"

Vin nods. "Thank you. I wish to apologize as well. My actions were less than amiable."

"Amiable?" Hagakure comments as she sits down. "That's a fancy word."

The Mistborn does her best to hide a blush. "My apologies." She sits down across from Momo and pokes at her food for a moment.

"What is it you wished to ask of me?" The aforementioned girl asked after she wiped her mouth with a napkin. "About your Quirk," Momo clarified.

Vin couldn't stop herself from glancing at the other members of the table. At Momo's comment, their attention shifted from their own conversations to Vin's.

That's ridiculous. There's no need to keep your Allomancy secret here. She thought. Even in Scadrial, symbolizing Allomancy gave a person status and recognition almost immediately.

Almost as quickly as the target it placed on her back.

"My Quirk," Vin sighed, "allows me to swallow and burn metals."

Hagakure tilts her head. "That doesn't sound very healthy."

"Well, neither is spraying acid from your hands," Mina defends, wiggling her pink fingers. The invisible girl giggles with Mina for a moment, only to be hushed by Jiro a moment later.

"What's so special about the metals?" She asked.

Vin reached into her pocket and pulled out on her vials. Surprisingly, she hasn't used as many as she had thought this week. "Different metals I use grant me different abilities. Tin gifts me enhanced vision. Pewter, strength."

"Wait," Tsuyu interrupts, "you have multiple Quirks, ribbit?"

"Sort of?" Vin responds with a frown. She begins fiddling with the vial, sealing and unsealing the cork. Remembering Nezu's advice and Aizawa's teachings, she answers saying: "it is more as if I have one Quirk which grants me different abilities under different circumstances. It's a common occurrence. There's another student in his third year who can eat different foods and receive abilities from them."

Jiro nods. "When I was taking the preliminary exam, there was a kid who could 'steal' another person's Quirk. So technically he had multiple, right?"

"Yes?" The Mistborn answers unsurely. She had no knowledge of such a student and would remember to ask about him at the end of the day.

Momo's eyes go wide with realization. "So you wish to ask for my help in the procuring of these metals?"

"...Yes. I've had Nezu helping me with them for now, but it'd be safer to find a better source. You said yesterday you cannot use your Quirk to affect the economy. All this would be doing is helping me utilize my Quirk."

"I don't know," Momo responds. "I would need to look into the legality of this. It would also depend upon the metals and their atomic makeup."

What do cosmetics have to do with this? "How so?"

"Well, certain ores and alloys have a greater price in the market."

Mina nods at this, placing a hand on her chin. "Exactly, exactly."

"You have no idea what they are talking about, do you?" Tsuyu asks with another croak.

"Shhh."

"So… you can't make gold?" Hagakure asks with a hint of disappointment in her voice.

Momo snorts, "Absolutely not. Imagine if I just started creating gold or platinum at whim, that could completely disrupt and collapse the financial state!"

"Good, gold isn't that useful anyways," Vin comments. Before she could talk about it further, she is bombarded by her classmates.

"What do you mean gold isn't useful!?" Mina and Hagakure exclaim.

Vin flinches, almost dropping her vial. "Allomantically. It's not useful Allomantically." She explains. "It shows a shadow of myself if I made a different choice in the past."

"WHAT!?"

This time, Vin was expecting it. She clenched slightly and took a deep breath. "It's an uncomfortable experience." The Mistborn remembers when Kelsier first demonstrated the power to her. The shadow depicted a lifeless husk of what she used to be. Lonely. Hateful.

Untrusting.

I'm not her anymore.

"That is quite… disturbing," Jiro commented, earning a few nods around the table. Vin even agrees, knowing quite well how unenjoyable Allomantic gold is when burned.

Momo frowns. "Then what metals would you require?"

Before Vin could answer, the bell rings once more. All at once, students begin to stand up and leave the room, placing trays and garbage in bins next to the doors as they leave. Even Vin's group does this, though the Mistborn just mimicked the motions of Hagakure.

Midoriya, Iida, and Urakara fall in line next to them as they leave the room.

"H-h-hey, V-Vin," the green-haired boy stutters. "Feeling better?"

The girl nods in thanks. "Yes. Thank you for helping me. I'm sorry if I caused you any trouble.

Midoriya blushes. "Of c-c-course."

Hero Course

As the group of 9 stepped back inside a classroom, Midoriya's attitude suddenly changed from a shy and timid child to an excited, shy and timid fanboy. His attitude was equally reflected on most of the students that sat down as well. Even Hagakure's figure couldn't sit still when the starting bell rang.

"It's time!" She loudly whispered.

"I can't believe he gets to teach us!" Another student commented. Sero, Vin remembered to be his name. "He's my favorite!"

Kaminari nodded, "mine too!"

Damnation, why did it have to be him? Vin thought.

"I AM -!" A voice yelled through the door just before it slammed open. All Might, the world's number one hero burst forth, wearing a bright red suit with a blue cape and white accents. "-Coming through the door like a normal person!"

"He really is our teacher," Kirishima exclaims with a large smile.

Tsuyu places a finger to her chin as she watches All Might stroll up to the front desk. "That's his costume from the Silver Age, isn't it?""

"It's so different from his current one," Ojiro adds, "that it's giving me goosebumps."

As much as her teammates continued to praise his costume, Vin couldn't help but critique it. It's flashy and grabs too much attention. Not to mention his size makes him look as if he's one of those watering carts.

"I teach Heroic Basic Training," All Might declared, now posing with his arms on his waist behind the desk. "This is a subject where you will train in different ways to learn the basics of heroism." His smile grows larger before muttering, "you'll also receive a large amount of credits from this class."

The Pro-Hero steps out from behind the desk and stretches his arms, displaying his bulging biceps for all to see (even Vin couldn't help but flush slightly at the sight). "Let's get right into it!" He declared as he flexed his way into picking up a piece of chalking. "This is what we'll be doing today."

The chalk wrote smoothly on the board for a moment as All Might wrote across it. When he finished, he stepped back and slapped the board. "COMBAT TRAINING!" He yelled loudly, the words displayed proudly.

Bakugo began to smile. "Combat-"

"-training?" Midoriya gulped.

"And," All Might continues, "to go with that are these!" He waves his hand to the side wall. As he does, small compartments begin to burst outward, revealing containers labeled with the class member's seating numbers. "These are the costumes you requested based upon your Quirks when the school year started," he explained.

"WOAH!" The student body yelled loudly. Even Vin couldn't help but feel a little excited about what awaited in her own container.

"After you change, gather in Ground Beta," All Might added as students began to get up from their seats, drawn to their gear."

Class 1-A gave a quick, "yessir!" before dashing to the cache of costumes.

All Might stood in an empty street-like area. Ground Beta was built to mimic a civilian metropolis. From the skyscrapers to the sewers, it was the perfect training arena for those wishing to become heroes.

Speaking of, he thought as he heard the gate behind him opened with a gust of wind. Here they come now.

"The garb you bring into the battlefield is important," the Pro-Hero declared as he turned around. "'The clothes make the man or women', so they say. So whenever you don your gear, do not forget: From now on, you are HEROES!"

Alrighty boys and girls, it's time! Another chapter is done and we are ever closer to Vin's first level of heroism. Up next, her hero-costume is revealed.

To be honest, I was expecting this to take a bit longer. I was stuck on setting up the timeline in the chapter for a good majority of the time I spent on this. However, it is thanks to my newest editor, Khiione, that I was able to publish this so quickly.

I know a lot of you don't read these author notes so I'll put this part near the top:

What would you like to see in the matches? Should I have Vin team up with Midoriya against Bakugo? Or should I have her team up with Bakugo!? Perhaps I could just have her replace Mineta since that's what I have basically done thus far? That would mean she'd be teamed up with Momo and fighting against Jiro and Kaminari.

Next chapter will be involving the doubles matches, which I'm sure a lot of you are excited for. I cannot wait to write them and I (hope) my editor cannot wait either.

On a personal note, please do not expect a lot out of me this next month or so. Finals are here and I am in the process of moving. Things are a little rough on me at the moment, emotionally and physically.
