Before this chapter begins, I just wanted to offer up the statistics that I've written down from the year of 2021. Bear with me, please.

We achieved a total of 5,080 total views this past year with 1,752 of those being registered users. Holy cow, that's a lot.

Our best time of the year in 2021 was August with 875 views and 268 visitors.

Again, I wish to thank you all. You've made me the happiest person on this platform and I cannot wait to take these tears of joy in my eyes and turn them to ink on a page (oh, you know what I mean). Here's to 2022! I hope we double these numbers!

"For today's Basic Hero Training, we've decided to add three instructors. All Might, me, and one other Pro-Hero.

Vin frowned. Does this have to do with the alarm earlier? Was there an attack?

Other students seem to have similar qualms.

"'Turn into'?" Jiro asks.

"I wonder if it's a special class," Midoriya mumbles.

Sero practically leaps from his seat and waves his hand in the air. "What is it we're going to be doing, exactly?"

"This is not, however," Aizawa clarifies, "due to the events that happened earlier today. We received words that All Might may be running late, and decided to ask someone to take time away to fill in. And as for today's lesson-plan…"

The Hero pulls out a large card with the word 'RESCUE' plastered on the front. He slaps the plastic rectangle onto the board behind him and waves at it. "Disasters, shipwrecks, and everything in between. This is Rescue Training; a Trial or Rescue."

"Rescue…" Kaminari whispers. He turns to his right and smiles sheepishly at Mina. "Looks like this is gonna be a lot of work, again."

The pink-tinted girl smiles and raises her arms in a silent cheer. "I know!"

Kirishima stabs a finger into Kaminari's back. "Idiot," he smirks, "this is a Hero's duty! I'm pumped!"

The boy's enthusiasm mimics what Vin is feeling, just less verbal. After an entire week of classes and dull lectures, finally a chance to use her Allomancy without concern about how those around her will react.

And I swear, she thinks, if Snipe stops me one more time about my 'quirk' usage, I'm going to see how good of a shot he really is.

Even Tsu seemed excited, commenting, "nobody can beat me in the water, ribbit. Floods are my specialty."

"I'm not done," Aizawa interrupts, bringing the class' attention back to him. "We're allowing costume and apparel to be optional for this lesson since some of your costumes may not be easily adapted to certain tasks or will make it more difficult for your abilities." He raises a remote and presses a button, allowing for compartments in the wall, familiar ones containing their hero gear, to appear and open. "The training area will be taking place off-campus, so we're taking a bus. That's all. Get ready."

Everyone quickly jumps to their feet and grabs their designated case before running to changing rooms. However, Midoriya remains seated as Vin walks up to him.

"What are you going to do about your costume?" she asks.

Midoriya jumps, not sensing Vin, and twirls around. He sighs before turning back to the front. "I'm probably just going to use a UA tracksuit. Most of my costume is still destroyed from my fight with Kacchan. But Power Loader did send a message that the gauntlets and headgear were finished, so I should be able to use those."

"I see." Vin takes a quick moment to grab her own case and inspect its contents. Like before, therein lay a vest with hidden daggers, a belt of Allomantic-shavings in vials, and, at the bottom, her mistcloak.

"W-w-what about you?" Midoriya asks, his notebook and pen scribbling away as he peers into her case. "What are you bringing? What effects does your costume bring to your abilities to use your Quirk? How did you come up with the design? Is your cape bullet-proof as well as flame-proof?"

Vin gave a sideways glance at the boy as he began to ramble, causing him to blush and mutter an apology. She reaches inside and grabs ahold of the cloak, ignoring the other aspects of her costume. "This'll be fine," she answers, tossing it around her shoulders. Like always, it bears a weight on her, but only enough that it feels like she is wearing lightweight armor.

Or a lead jacket, Vin thinks, remembering hearing someone make reference to such a thing. Even though the idea of one is absurd to her.

"The rest would probably weigh me down anyways. Especially if we are going to be focusing on agility and dexterity."

Midoriya nods. "Makes sense. I doubt they'll be having us fight someone when we've just been introduced to this form of Hero-work."

Vin agrees. But just in case… She grabs the belt of vials and checks to make sure it was full. Someone must have restocked it because all the slots for vials were taken. She almost pulled one out, wanting to feel the flames of Allomancy burn inside of her again.

But she still had remnants from earlier in the day. And unlike back home, there would probably be no necessity for her to need more. At least, not until the class started.

She kept the urge to bring a knife to herself and closed the case before she could grab it.

Bakugou was surprised to see Majo first when he walked to the bus. He was certain he was the first one changed, faster than even Four-Eyes. Growling, Bakugou took a step towards her and lifted his palms upward. His Quirk, Explosion, sparked and discharged in small bursts.

I'll show her, he snarled silently. She's trying to one-up me! But she should know I'm number one, not her! If it wasn't for her, Deku would know his place.

She must have heard him as he was sneaking up on her. Before he knew it, she was moving. Bakugou barely had any time to blast an attack in defense. However, she stopped her fist in front of his face, holding it just inches away from impact.

"What's your problem?" she asked. Her cloak billowed slightly as her other hand reached for her waist.

Bakugou didn't back away. In fact, he stepped forward, almost to the point of pressing his nose to her knuckles. "Weaklings are my problem, Majo. You, Deku, and everyone else who gets in my way."

"Deku," Majo whispers. "Why do you call him that?"

"That's what he is! Deku is a deku! Weak! Useless!"

Dropping her fist, she gave a smug smile (or, at least, that's how he remembers it). "If he's so weak, how come you lost to him? And if I'm so weak, how come you've only got one gauntlet?"

"…" Bakugou's eye twitched. The fact he had access to only one of his gauntlets was a sore spot. It was like a physical reminder of what had occurred in the combat training exercise.

'You lost to him,' a part of his mind repeated. 'You lost to him. You lost to him!' As Majo turned around, he raised his own hand and outstretched his fingers. They popped slightly as he flexed both his muscles and his Quirk.

But before he could do anything, a hand wrapped around his wrist and pushed it down.

"Hey, Bakugou!" a voice called out. The explosive teen turned around to see the red hair of Kirishima stepping in between them. Before Bakugou could snap his arm free, Kirishima grabbed his hand and gave it a solid shake. "I just wanted to congratulate you," he explained, a large smile on his face. "You were awesome in the combat training exercise."

Bakugou snarled and twisted his hand free. "Get away from me, extra."

All I did was say congrats, Kirishima thought as he waved at a retreating Bakugou. He was glad he was able to step in before something could happen. It wasn't manly to attack an opponent, especially one with their back turned.

"Thank you." Kirishima turned around to find Vin giving him a sideways glance. "I was fine on my own… but thank you."

He smiled and bumped his chest with his fist. "No problem! I was just saying hello. But… I do want to ask you something."

Vin raised an eyebrow.

"I was really impressed by your fight the other day," he explained. It was really manly! It got my blood all riled up and I was hoping that, at some point, we could fight."

"Fight?" she asked. "Why?"

Kirishima smiled and flexed his arms upward. "To see who's stronger!"

Frowning, Vin turned to face him in his entirety. "You would fight… for sport?"

"Sport? I mean, I guess." Shrugging, he motioned to his hand, which Hardened and formed a stone-like texture with shard ridges and angular tips. "I just wanna test your Quirk against mine! And, to be honest, I think I could learn a thing from you. You almost took down Bakugou, after all!"

Vin's frown disappeared. "Oh," she realized, "you want to train. When would it work for you? I've got access to the school's gymnasium and training arena."

"Really? Cool!" Kirishima smiles, offering a thumbs up in return. "How about tomorrow? We're off school and I can come in."

"As good a time as any," she responds.

"What is?" a new voice asks. Kirishima recognizes it, and turns to see the smiling face of Mina as she giddily skips from the main building towards them.

"After-school training," Kirishima explains. He points at Vin, who's now pulling her hood up and trying to sink into her cape, and smiles. "The class champ and I are gonna do some good, old-fashioned workouts."

Mina's eyes sparkle and she runs over to Vin, grabbing her arm. "Ooh! Sounds like fun. I'm in too!"

"Count us in too," Jiro adds, Momo and Hagakure walking behind her as well. "I'm sure everyone here could use some training. Especially from someone as advanced as you are in fighting style and technique."

Vin blushes underneath her hood. "I… I'm not that impressive. There are others more qualified than me."

"Are you kidding? You're like the manliest person I've met!"

Rolling her eyes, Mina shoves a finger into Kirishima's face. "Seriously, Kirishi. You don't tell a girl they're 'manly'! We've talked about this, it's rude."

"It's a compliment!"

The group of students laughs at the two's interactions. As more and more of his classmates arrive, other small groups of chatter break out as well. Kirishima notices Midoriya with Uraraka and Iida talking in a small circle (however, the vice-president was twitching as he kept casting glances at Momo and the bus). Momo didn't seem to notice, too entrapped with her conversation with most of the females in the class. Others were by themselves like Todoroki or Ojiro.

"It sucks man," Kaminari comments, walking up to him with his hands on his head. "All the girls already have their own groups, leaving us guys all alone."

Kirishima smiles and places an arm around his neck, pulling him to the side. "Who needs them?" He waves at the explosive teen, who's now leaning against a cement pillar in his lonesome.

"Hey, Bakugou!" Kirishima greets, pulling Kaminari with him. "A bunch of us are going to go do some training tomorrow, you in?"

Casting a glare at the two, Bakugou gives a dismissive wave of his hand. "What the hell do I need training for? You and Sparky need it, not me."

"Dude," Kaminari interrupts, pulling himself out of Kirishima's grip, "like half of the class wants to go. It'll be fun!"

"Hell. No." Kirishima rolls his eyes and makes a move to grab Bakugou. However, the blonde snaps his hand to the side and smacks Kirishima's hand away. "I said, fuck off!"

"Geez, dude. Fine," Kaminari mutters. He shoves his hands in his pockets and nods at his red-headed ally. "C'mon, man, it's not worth it. I think Iida's about to blow a gasket if Momo doesn't get us on the bus soon."

Kirishima nods but doesn't look away from Bakugou. What's his problem?

Vin couldn't help but give a slight chuckle when Momo created the whistle for Iida. The boy was practically shaking up to the point but knew he was not the classroom executive and therefore didn't have the authority unless given it. Thankfully, Momo didn't let him suffer long.

With a blast of the whistle, Iida brought everyone's attention forward. "Class 1-A! Please gather around!" He then made a waving motion to Momo after everyone assembled.

"Thank you," Momo commented, directing her appreciation to Iida (who saluted in return). "I think it'll be best for us and Mr. Aizawa if we board now. Can everyone please get into two lines? Those with even classroom numbers on the left, odds on the right. This way we can load ourselves without any disturbances."

Some grumbling ensued, but everyone quickly fell into line. Iida, still keeping the whistle in his mouth, continued to provide direction to those students who appeared confused. But, in reality, they were trying to ignore the blaring whistling noise in their ears.

Vin, having an odd number seat, joined the tail end of the line on the right. She watched as one-by-one her friends were escorted onto the metal creature. If she was being honest with herself, Vin felt… uncomfortable doing this. She'd seen other cars and buses before but had never been inside one herself. Especially not inside such a beast as big as this.

Gulping, she thought, it's a cage. A large, steel cage that moves faster than a Push.

But a Mistborn doesn't show fear.

Her foot shook slightly as she took her first few steps into the machine. The steps leading into the interior were difficult enough to climb with someone of her height. And when she was finally inside, the length seemed to elongate as she made her way to the back of the bus.

Damn. What's going on?

Vin soon reached her seat and collapsed onto it with a gasp. A roll of sweat dripped down the side of her face.

At the front of the bus, Momo entered last. She did a quick count of the occupants before giving a small bow. "Thank you for your support and patience. Mr. Aizawa will be here in a moment, along with the driver." The scantily-garbed girl then made the same trek Vin did before sitting across from her.

Unlike normal vehicles Bin had seen, where the passengers faced forward, the seats on this vehicle were faced inward to the centerline.

Momo let a sheepish smile escape her. "I didn't realize it was going to be this form of travel. I wouldn't have asked for everyone to line up the way they did."

"I'm sorry!" Iida cried, overhearing her comment. He clutched his head and brought his head down to his knees. "It's my fault! I should have done more research!"

"There was no point," Mina giggled.

Through rapidly-blinking eyes, Vin watched as Aizawa walked the perimeter of the bus before getting inside himself. "Is that everyone?" he asked. Then, without waiting for an answer, he turned and sat down in the front. The driver soon followed, closing the door behind him.

The driver didn't waste any time before operating the coach. With a twist of a key and a press of his foot, the engine started and began to move.

Vin clenched the hem of her mistcloak when it did. Like everyone, she lurched to the side as it moved.

"How long until we get there?" Hagakure asked.

"We get there when we get there," grumbled their teacher. "Just sit tight and stay quiet."

Of course, nobody heard that last part. The bus soon filled with the sounds of chatter and rumor. Vin couldn't focus on any of it, trying to keep her mind blank with her eyes closed. But with every bump and turn, she couldn't be sure how long she'd be able to sit still.

I could have ridden atop, she thought. Or just ran ahead. Why in the Lord Ruler's name did I let myself get put in this death trap?! I'd rather fight a koloss than this!

"Hey, Midoriya," Tsu's voice began, interrupting her thoughts.

From her time meeting with the green-haired boy this last week, Vin could picture his mannerisms. He'd be blushing and snapping to attention.

"A-a-asui?" his voice exclaimed, stammering.

"Call me Tsuyu."

"… okay."

"Your Quirk is really similar to All Might's."

Vin's eyes snapped open and she turned to watch as Midoriya began to shake and stammer. "Huh?! You r-really think so?"

The frog-girl nodded.

"But… um," Midoriya stammered. He must have been trying to come up with a lie or a fib because he began to hyperventilate.

Vin sighed and opened her mouth, ready to intervene. However, Kirishima did so first.

"Hold up a sec, Asui-"

"Tsuyu," she corrected.

Kirishima nodded. "Right. Hold up a sec. All Might doesn't get hurt with his Quirk, though. They kind of just look the same, like how the old stories tell of multiple Heroes with super-speed."

Midoriya (and Vin mentally) sighed in relief.

"But it's cool you have such a simple augmenting-type Quirk," he continues. "I'm kinda jealous. You can do a lot of cool and unique stuff. But mine-," he raises his arm and Vin watches as it toughens and sharpens. "It's tough against others but it doesn't really look that cool."

"I think that's awesome!" Midoriya smiles. "It's definitely a Quirk I'd expect to see a Pro using."

Kirishima smiles and inspects his arm. "Thanks. But having a good Quirk isn't everything. A lot of being a Pro-Hero is being popular and recognizable, too."

"My Navel-Laser is Pro in both fashion and strength," Aoyama comments, interjecting for the first time. Vin almost forgot he was there.

I really am getting soft, she thought as the bus hit another hole, rocking it upwards and downwards. Damn!

Mina places her hand on one of his armored shoulders. "But it's not great that it always gives you a stomach ache, huh?" The blonde boy's face remains smiling, but his expression darkens slightly at the reminder of his weakness.

"Well, if we're talking about flashy and strong, it's gotta be Bakugou or Todoroki, right?" Kirishima asks. The group looks to the side to look back at the two aforementioned boys, only for them to both ignore them. Bakugou 'tsk's and closes his eyes while Todoroki remains, well, frozen in silence.

"Yeah," Tsuyu agrees with a chuckle, "but Bakugou's always angry, so he'll never be popular."

"You wanna go?!" the teen snaps, lifting himself up from his seat. "I'll show you, I'm going to be the most popular one here!"

"See?"

Bakugou keeps himself still but snarls as the group in front of him giggles and chuckles.

Kaminari points at the blonde and smirks. "It's impressive that with such little time together, everyone already knows how your personality is practically garbage seeped with sewer water."

"The hell kind of vocabulary is that coming from you, Sparky?!" Bakugou snaps, turning to face the other teen. "I'll kill you!"

About time he got recognized for what he is, Vin thought with a soft smirk. Across from her, Momo raised a hand to her lips and shook her head as the two boys continued to go back and forth.

"What vulgar language," she critiqued.

Uraraka giggled. "But it's fun too!"

"What about Vin?" Hagakure asked. "She's just as strong as Bakugou."

Sheepishly, Kirishima rubbed the back of his head and tried to avoid eye contact with everyone. "Well… her Quirk is kinda basic, right? I mean, from what we saw in class was how skilled and strong she was. I don't even think I know what her Quirk is."

"That shows what you know," Mina teased. "Vin told us all about her Quirk."

"She did? What is it?"

Mina looked to Hagakure, who appeared to shrug. "Maybe later," she giggled.

The class laughed as the two girls high-fived. Kirishima began to beg his teammates for what information they knew, his curiosity increasing as more and more ridiculous claims about her powers were whispered.

"Hey," Aizawa's voice interrupted. "That's enough talking. We're here."

"Yes, sir!"

Once again, Aizawa stopped Vin as everyone began to depart. Thirteen would be waiting for everyone near the entrance and keep an eye on the kids as they talked.

Vin raised an eyebrow at him as she was forced to stay behind inside the bus. For a minute, she looked queasy. A show of weakness? he thought, only to dismiss it. She must have been trying to act innocent.

"What is it?"

Aizawa made a second glance around them to make sure they were alone before hissing, "you told them?"

The girl in front of him gave Aizawa a dismissive wave. "I only explained my Quirk. Not… everything."

Everything. Yeah, I bet.

Aizawa gave her a small glare. "Would you?"

For the first time since he's known her, Vin couldn't form any words. "I…"

"Listen," he explained, "I don't know if you've realized, but you aren't like them."

"You think?"

"I'm trying to treat you like an adult, Vin," he sighed. "I'm not just saying you're different due to your… situation. You are completely unique. You know the true strength of a hero, as well as what can come from the tyranny of an unopposed evil. You're strong, already knowing the limits of your power, and have probably reached as high as you can in your current state. There is probably very little we can teach you here."

Vin frowned. "Then why am I here?"

"Because you are too young," Aizawa sighed. He closed his eyes and let a shudder pass through his body. "You shouldn't know all of this, you shouldn't have had to live like that, and you sure as hell shouldn't have to suffer for it. Nezu didn't only offer you a place in our school to help with the needs you had; but also those you don't realize yet.

"We teach kids how to become Heroes. We instill in them lessons they need to know to survive. By the time they will leave this hero academia, they won't be what they were. Children do not survive long in this course. They will grow into the Heroes we need them to be or we will instill it into them.

"And I don't want you to take that away from them. This time of youthfulness will be gone before they know it. Please, do not take it away from them. They need to know they were kids once."

And you need to have that. Your childhood was nonexistent at best. If we can give that to you, offer you the life you never had, that'll be the most heroic act any of us could do.

We can save you.

"…" Vin remained silent for almost a full minute. Her frame disappeared into her clock and her head drooped. "I understand. I'll try to distance myself."

No! That's not what I-

Before he could explain himself, Vin ran past him and out the door. He made a grab for her but stopped himself. Damn it.

Cursing himself for not bringing his notebook, Midoriya was forced to keep his excitement to himself as he and his classmates were treated by the Pro-Hero, Thirteen.

She, even though all trace of her femininity was hidden underneath the bulky-ness of her suit, offered a great homage to the original travelers of the stars. She named herself after their shuttle and her Pro-Hero uniform mimicked that of astronauts. A large dome covered her head with two small glowing orbs where her eyes should have been. To top it off, she wore strange gloves with metallic levers on the fingertips and around the phalanges.

"I've been waiting for you," she greets with a loud and filtered voice.

Uraraka mimicked Midoriya's giddy and jumped up and down. "That's Thirteen, the Space Hero! The gentlewomanly Hero who has rescued tons of people from disasters! She's one of my favorite Heroes!"

The Pro made no moves in remarks to their excitement, only a wave of her hand to the door behind her. The outside of such was fairly basic. No markings or anything covered the large dome, it was almost like a cement ball submerged in the ground.

"Let us go inside without delay."

Class 1-A responded with a resounding cheer. "We look forward to working with you!"

Huge, huge thanks to my first-ever supporter!

Helpful supporter - Dalek2150

Thanks a lot for believing in me enough to fork over your money :)

Another chapter down! You all know what's next. I'm sorry to leave you so close to the action, but I felt this was a good stopping point (especially since I've been working on this for a bit and I reached the point of drainage. I'm sapped. Not permanently, just for a few days/weeks which I shall be using to work on my other projects.

Let's see, what's in this chapter… We've got Vin forming bonds and making plans, which is good for her in the long run (nobody can survive on their own for long). I tried to be nice to Bakugou, getting inside of his head. But while his latest versions are much more… respectable, his original personality and character left little to be desired. I also tried to show Kirishima trying to befriend him but, who knows, maybe it backfires with Vin being there and he only ends up seeing the worst in Bakugou. Bwahahahahaha.

I'm sure some people may have a problem with Vin's panic in the car, but I felt it was important. She's human. And in a strange world. Cars are scary nowadays (amaxophobia is a real thing after all) and to someone who basically comes from the Middle Ages, some technological marvels may be a bit freaky. Some fun dialogue in the bus with the class, followed by some… not so fun dialogue in the bus with the teacher.

I… I cannot say much about what Aizawa and Vin discuss. The theme of maturity and growing into adulthood is everywhere in MHA, especially with Midoriya and what has been going on in the manga recently. But what about the opposite? Ozpin said it well in RWBY Volume 2:

"But right now they're still children, so why not let them play the part? After all, it isn't a role they'll have forever."

With that, we are all caught up. I really hope everyone enjoyed this chapter as I put a lot of work into it, especially with character progressions (or the start of it).

And you read correctly, I am requesting another Beta/Editor. I do not know why they keep leaving me. All I know is one day we are working on a chapter, creating outlines and such, then they never answer my emails or messages.

We have still been unable to meet our goal of being the #1 Mistborn Fanfic. First is still being held by Slavok's Beautiful Destroyer with a difference of 141 Favorites and 235 Follows. C'mon guys! We can do it! Spread the word! Spam the 17th shard! It is possible!

Also, and I know I say it every chapter (like twice), please please please comment. It really makes my day reading new comments. Even if you're reading this a week from the post-date, don't be afraid to post what your favorite part was. Not only do your comments bring me the energy to continue writing, but they also help fuel my creative imagination for new unique ideas.

Please, feel free to follow and comment on predictions, thoughts, etc. I am always looking for new ways to improve my craft. Tell your friends!
