A Face-off Encounter Against the Unknown
Beta'd by: [N/A - All mistakes are my own. PM me if you are interested in filling the position]
As always, please comment! It honestly makes my day to read your thoughts and opinions.
Wide eyes and slacked jaws flooded across the faces of everyone in Class 1-A as they stepped inside the domed building. The interior was impossibly large, with smaller areas with their own half-crescent roofs, and had many pathways between the different sections. One seemed to lead to a set of mountains and cliffs while another led to a destroyed cityscape. This hadn't even scratched the surface of the total number of capabilities the building seemed to possess.
Sectioned tiles cover the roof, some of them shining bright light while others allow the common daylight to fill the gigantic space. At the center of the area was an ornate fountain towards which the class descended from the elevated entrance.
Kaminari gasped loudly and leaned against a railing. "Wow! It looks like the Universal Studios of Japan?"
"Shipwrecked and floods," Thirteen explains. Her voice, filtered by her helmet, grows boisterous as she points to specific zones inside the dome. "Landslides and earthquakes. Fires and high winds. And so much more!
"This arena is meant to test, train, and prepare for all kinds of accidents and disasters in a safe arena. By understanding what all can go wrong in exercises, instead of real-time events, you can be even more prepared for the real thing! I call it the Unforeseen Simulation Joint!"
"Then it really is the USJ," Kaminari chuckles. The other members of the class seem to share his excitement, though.
All except for one.
Out of the corner of her eye, Hagakure noticed Vin sulking in the corner, hood up. This wasn't unusual for the girl (she always seemed to move into dark areas of a room or into protected areas) but something felt off about her. Yes, Vin was shy. But with her hood up and head down, she almost looked like she was…
Crying. Is Vin crying? What happened?
The invisible girl, used to not being seen, slowly made her way out of the group and towards her friend. "Vin?"
Flinching, she scooted backward even further.
Hagakure frowned. "What's wrong? Are you okay? Did Mr. Aizawa tell you that you were failing the class?"
"No… I'm fine." The strange girl shuddered and nodded forward towards the Pro-Hero. "Just needed a breath. Go back to class."
A sudden coolness poured throughout Hagakure's body. There was no need to worry. Vin was just being Vin. And she needed to focus on Thirteen so she wouldn't mess up this week's class.
I'm sure she's okay, Hagakure thought as she faced forward. During her 'conversation' with Vin, Mr. Aizawa had apparently moved to the front of the class and whispered something to Thirteen. When the woman whispered back, though barely audible, it sounded as if static was playing through an old radio.
Behind her, Vin stiffened.
"Before we begin, I just have a few things to cover first," Thirteen exclaimed, clapping her gloves. "Just maybe one or two… or three. Or four… or-"
Class 1-A gave a collective sigh.
Thirteen shook her head (at least, that's what Hagakure thought when her helmet shook violently). "As I'm sure you are all aware, my Quirk is called Black Hole. No matter the material, I can use my vortex to inhale it and turn the object into dust."
"Such an awesome and perfect Quirk for removing wreckage or saving people from disasters!" Midoriya rambles. Next to him, Uraraka shakes her head in agreement.
"Yes," Thirteen sighs. "Black Hole is a great tool for removing obstacles in my way. But, it is also a power that can easily cause death and chaos if I'm not careful. No different from your own Quirks.
"Naturally, in this society of superhumans, Quirks are regulated and the requirements for their lawful use is controlled to prevent accidents from occurring. That is the make-up of this world. That being said, you shouldn't forget that even the simplest of Quirk-users can cause a situation to go awry. Even for you and your classmates. All it takes is one wrong step and you might accidentally kill someone.
"I heard that Mr. Aizawa put you through your Physical Strength Tests on your first day of class. That should have let you grow new respect for your power's true potential. And during All Might's Trial of Battle, you might now sense the true dangers of the power you brandish when used against another.
"This lesson will serve as a fresh start! We'll be studying how to use your Quirks for the safety of human life. Your Quirks do not exist to specifically hurt others. Please leave this exercise with a newfound recognition that your Quirks are meant to help people!" The Pro-Hero gave a deep bow. "That is all! Thank you for listening so intently and patiently."
The end of Thirteen's speech was met with thunderous applause. Iida was practically in tears, proclaiming the greatness of UA's curriculum while Bakugou seemed to ignore every word that came from the teacher's helmet.
"That was awesome!" Uraraka cheered.
Slowly, Mr. Aizawa began to calm everyone down. "First things first, we'll be-" The man froze as the sound of wind began to grow. He looked back towards the fountain and froze. Suddenly, he whipped around and yelled out, "huddle together and don't move! Thirteen, you protect the students!"
"What's going on?" Kaminari asks, confused and taking a step towards the railing. "Is this going to be like the entrance exam?"
Their teacher pushes him back, however, before pulling out a pair of goggles from his pocket and sliding them over his head and eyes. "Don't move! They are villains!"
Vin felt it happen but did nothing. After Aizawa's comments to her on the bus, she let herself grow distant from the class (both physically and mentally). She couldn't focus much on what was being said and didn't even see Hagakure until it was too late.
Luckily, a small push and pull on her emotions got her to leave.
Maybe he is right. I am dangerous. And they are so innocent. If I stay, it's possible I'll just hurt them, or possibly make them like me.
Then it happened. As Vin was lost in thought, bronze pulls began to scream inside of her head. At first, one, growing in volume. Then, behind the loud bangs of the first pulse, dozens of others. One by one, a multitude of bronze hammers began to bang inside Vin's skull, causing her to wince and almost fall to the ground.
She looked around, snuffing bronze and flaring copper. What was that?
"Protect the students!" Aizawa yelled. Instinctively, Vin's hand reached for a knife but found she had left it behind. Damnation! This wasn't supposed to happen. This was supposed to be about learning to use their powers to help people. So, in an act of stupidity, she left behind her knives.
Her hand wrapped around the emergency vial of metals she kept in her mistcloak and quickly threw its contents down her throat. She then rushed forward, pushing through her classmates and jumping to the side of Aizawa.
"What's going on?" Even from this distance, she could see the swirling, purple mass in front of them. As she watched, it grew larger and almost seemed to unfold. Slowly, a hand pushed out from the portal. Then came an entire person.
Vin had seen many strange people in Japan these last few weeks. Fish-men, people with dozens of limbs, even a talking mouse, but the arrival was a new kind of strange. Amputated hands covered his entire body on his arms and legs. One even fit over his face, covering his mouth but allowing for his red eyes to glare outward.
"We're under attack," Aizawa hissed. His eyes were now covered in yellow goggles and he had already wrapped his capture tool in his fists. "By real villains. This is not a test."
After the man with hands stepped through, dozens more followed. Some were mutants, possessing unnatural body shapes, and others had their Quirks already activated for the inevitable fight ahead.
The source of the bronze pulses, Vin thought. She did a quick scan of their numbers and counted off a solid fifty. Shouldn't be too difficult. With Aizawa's Quirk and my Allomancy, we should be able to hold them off long enough for everyone to escape. Or Thirteen can use hers as a last resort.
Behind them, everyone showcased either shocked or fearful expressions. "Here?" Tokoyami asked.
"We can take 'em," Bakugou snarled, smashing his fist into his gauntlet-covered palm. For once, Vin agreed with the boy.
But then one last figure emerged. Larger than all the rest with dark blue skin and red scars, it resembled All Might in a way. However, its head was avian with an exposed brain and unlided eyes on its side.
It almost looked like an even more disturbing form of…
No. That's not possible.
"Thirteen and Eraserhead," a dark voice called out. The purple mist began to condense until it grew a glowing set of yellow eyes. "The schedule said that there would be three heroes present, the last being All Might. But I do not see him here…"
Vin frowned, deepening her stance, wishing she had a blade in her hand. They planned the attack earlier?
Reaching the same conclusion, Aizawa mumbled, "the trespassing was the work of these scumbags. It was a ploy to distract us while someone grabbed intelligence against us."
The man with hands leaned back and waved his arms forward, motioning for the other villains to march. "Where is he? I went through all the trouble to bring this huge party too. So where? Where is All Might? WHERE IS THE SYMBOL OF PEACE?!" He slowly lowered his hands and took a shaky breath. "Maybe… Maybe he'll show up if we kill some kids."
Vin flared pewter, ready to kill him if he intended to keep his threat. Equally prepared, Aizawa's scarf unfurled completely and his hair seemed to lift up as he activated his Quirk.
"Villains? Here? At UA?" Kirishima gasped. "How'd they get here with no one knowing?"
"Thirteen, what about sensors and security measures?" Momo asked.
The Pro-Hero glanced back at the students. "Of course we have them… but…"
They must have disabled everything ahead of time.
"Did they only appear here, or are they attacking other students as well?" For the first time, Todoroki had stepped forward and spoken. "It matters very little. If the sensors aren't working, they must have a Quirk that prevents them from doing so. This is an isolated area from the main campus and during a time when a class is meant to be taking place. They may be foolish, but they are not idiots.
Vin nodded in agreement. Then they must have a specific goal in mind. And it probably involves All Might. Do they want to kill him? Even to her, such a thought was difficult to process. Japan's number one hero was at the top for a reason. He'd survived hundreds of fights with far more powerful opponents. Even with atium, Vin wasn't sure if she could take him even with all the pewter in the world.
"Thirteen, begin evacuating the students," Aizawa ordered. He turned back to the group but kept an eye on the invaders. "These villains were smart enough to counteract the sensors. It's possible they have someone with a Quirk relating to radio waves or wireless transmissions; Kaminari, see if your Electrification can create a feedback or cancel it out."
The blonde-haired boy nodded and gave a quick "yes sir!" He reached to the attachment on his ear and Vin felt the hairs on her neck stand up. A coppercloud? Or something similar?
Aizawa grabbed Vin's shoulder. "I'm sorry for earlier. I didn't mean what I said."
"Yes, you did. Otherwise you wouldn't have said it."
"I meant to say…" He sighed and rolled his shoulders back. "You're not supposed to push everyone away. We are just worried you will hurt them if you try to teach them more than they can handle yet. You're a hero, Vin. And I shouldn't have told you to do this alone."
Vin frowned. "Are you asking for help?"
"No. I need you to stay here and make sure that nobody gets hurt. Help Thirteen and do as she says."
"…" Vin clenched her fist and looked down at her feet. "I can help…"
Aizawa nodded. "Yes. But I need you to help those who don't know how to do this yet. I'm trusting you to do this."
The young Mistborn was silent for a moment. Her cheeks burned but she ultimately gave a small nod. "Fine."
He gave Vin a sideways glance before waving his hand at the students. "Stay here!" he yelled back. "They might have someone outside to ensure nobody will escape. Thirteen and Vin will make sure nobody harms you."
"But sir!" Midoriya yelped, clutching his fist in his hand. "You can't fight them alone! Your signature technique is to capture someone after erasing their Quirk; a frontal assault isn't…"
Their teacher gripped his capture tool tighter. "You can't be a Hero with just one trick." He then leaped from the stairs and fell into battle.
When a Pro-Hero jumps into a fight, everything needs to become an advantage. The goggles over his eyes and capture tool were useful items, yes, but that wasn't all Eraserhead was using. The wind that blew past his face kept his hair out of his eyes as he fell and allowed him to move faster than expected.
The first group of villains didn't seem to realize this fact.
"Firing squad, line up!" the closest one yelled. His Quirk seemed to be tied to his gun-barrel-shaped fingertips.
Transmitter, Eraserhead thought.
Two more villains rushed to the first's side. "Didn't our intel say it would be Thirteen with All Might?" a female asked, her tendril-like hair forming barrels of their own.
"Who cares? But if he's stupid enough to try and stop us all by himself-"
"-THEN HE'S JUST A SCARFED AN IDIOT!" the entirety of the firing squad yelled as they each pointed their weapon Quirks at him.
However, at this point, Eraserhead had hit the ground and turned the moment of his fall into a roll, then a dash forward. His eyes widened and he activated his Quirk, keeping all three of his opponents in sight.
Their Quirks were erased instantly. The woman's hair fell over her face, while the others simply reacted as if they fired blanks.
"Huh?"
"My Quirk-"
"It's gone!"
"I can't shoot!"
Eraserhead took advantage of their confusion and wrapped all three of the villains in his 'scarf' in a single movement. Then, with a surprising amount of strength, he lifted them up before slamming them all back into each other.
The villains fell to the ground, unconscious. But his job was far from over.
"You idiots!" a villain called out as Eraserhead pulled his capture tool back (after unfurling it, of course). "That's the Pro that can erase Quirks just by looking at 'em!"
Fear ripples through the ranks and the villains all stop their advance.
Good, Eraserhead thinks. Superstitious and as fearful as common thugs. Maybe this'll be easier than I thought.
Luck, however, was not on his side. One of the villains, a man with multiple arms made of rock, rushed forward. Even though his face was masked, the smirk on his face was obvious. "Oh, yeah? What about those of us with mutant Quirks? Can he erase us too?"
"No," he answered in a loud whisper, closing his eyes and allowing them to rest for what might be a long battle. "But I've learned ways of overcoming that obstacle." The beast of a man lunged forward, swinging wide punches.
So wide that Eraserhead had no difficulty dodging to the side of each strike multiple times before slamming his own first into the villain's face. The strike easily sent him prone and left an opening for the Hero to use his capture tool like a lasso. The cord wrapped around his leg and, with a grunt, Eraserhead pulled him back.
"Mutant-type users are statistically likely to engage in close-range combat."
Remembering the positions of those who surrounded him, he ducked in expectancy of an attack while his back was turned. However, none such came. Instead, a loud thud was heard. He ignored this as he continued to swing the villain he'd ensnared and slammed him against multiple others. The spin Eraserhead completed allowed him to once again get a full view of the battlefield.
And allowed him to see the source of the thud.
The villain he expected to attack was lying on his back with a knife in his chest. A quick glance allowed Eraserhead to calculate where the weapon came from. He needn't have bothered, though. It was obvious.
Vin, Eraserhead sighed, casting her a glare that she wouldn't be able to see. How did you- Next to the young woman, Yaoyorozu could be seen passing Vin another dagger. Damn it. I thought I told you to stay put!
Somehow, she glared back, almost as if to say 'I did'.
That just made you even more of a target!
The lead villain, the one with the hands hiding his identity, scratched at his cheek. "Not bad combat skills for an old man," he grumbled. "And with those stupid goggles, you can't really tell who he's looking at with that erasing Quirk. When he's fighting a group, they have difficulties knowing who does or doesn't have access to their powers."
Just because their leader was monologing to himself, didn't mean the fight was on hold. Eraserhead continued to block and evade attacks from the multitude of villains. Every few seconds, he allowed himself to blink and erase someone else's Quirk. His mindset began to flicker between fight, dodge, erase, through, and repeat.
"God, I hate Pro's," the leader hissed. "The masses don't stand a chance against them. Especially when they inspire others to die for them." He looked up towards the entrance. "Kurogiri, ensure that those brats don't escape."
"No!" Eraserhead yelled, tossing a strand of his capture tool towards the portal. However, it, he, vanished before it could entrap him. Damn it! I couldn't stop myself from blinking! The Pro glanced towards the entrance as more villains rushed towards him.
Keep them safe.
Midoriya watched with a strange sense of excitement and fascination as he watched a Pro-Hero in action. He'd always been an All Might fan, but the Pro's that fought in close-range combat, relying on hand-to-hand combat, were always fascinating. At one point, before he was gifted One for All, he had thought about such a life. But he had never found the time (or physical ability) to focus on it.
"Mr. Aizawa is really good at fighting," Midoriya gasped as he and Vin watched the battle intently. The girl, instead of responding to him, turned to Momo and requested a knife from her. Confused, she did so easily, creating one from her stomach and passing it to her.
With the skill she showed him when she tossed that rock all that time ago to help Horusavior, she threw her knife directly toward one of the villains sneaking up on their teacher. The weapon embedded itself into his chest and the man fell to the ground. Even though it was dozens of meters away, Midoriya could hear and almost feel the impact of the blade.
It made him want to throw up.
"Another one," she requested, holding her palm open to their class president. However, like Midoriya, she didn't move at all.
The green-haired boy gasped at the calmness of his classmate. "You… killed him."
Vin nodded. "He was going to attack Aizawa."
"That doesn't mean you had to kill him!" For once, Midoriya felt his stammer disappear to give way to something alien. Rage. "He was a villain, but we're just supposed to catch them!"
Momo agreed, adding, "yes. That's right. We are not meant to be executioners."
"But… he was going to be hurt. I saved him." Vin frowned and flexed her fingers. "I know how to do this. This is all that I truly know."
"Know what?" Momo asked. "Murder? Killings? Is that what you thought being a hero is about? Saving people but at the cost of others? This is why we are here. To learn."
Midoriya nodded. "But that is wrong. Murder is always wrong."
The girl struggled to find words. She looked back and forth between Midoriya and Momo. Her eyes, oh God, her eyes. They were broken. For the first time, Midoriya could see Vin. All that time alone wasn't her being scared. She didn't know how to interact with anyone.
She didn't know how to talk with others. And she didn't know how to be a hero.
Is that why she was hurt when I found her? Midoriya thought. Did she try to use her Quirk to hurt someone, but got hurt back? Is that why Aizawa keeps pulling her aside?
Before he could think about it any longer, Iida grabbed him by the shoulder. "There's no time to talk!" he ordered, grabbing Momo as well. "We need to seek shelter!"
Midoriya looked back at Vin, who remained still and silent. He caught her eye and offered a silent apology before turning around and chasing after the rest of his class. Shortly after, Momo caught up to him as well. They quickly returned to the group as they ran towards the entrance with Thirteen in the lead.
However, when Midoriya looked back, Vin hadn't moved.
He instantly stopped running and began to turn around. She may have done something wrong, but she's still our friend! But he wasn't quick enough. Just as he stopped, so did everyone else. The purple villain with the warp ability was now directly in front of them, covering the exit.
"I'm afraid," he said, "I cannot allow you to leave. We are the League of Villains, and it's a pleasure to meet you. It was a bit presumptuous of us but we invited ourselves into the home of heroes, UA High School, so that we might meet the Symbol of Peace and ensure his last breath.
Midoriya shook visibly at the villain's proximity. Huh? All Might?
The purple villain continued to speak, saying, "All Might should have been here. Was there a change in schedule, perhaps? Well, that matters very little now. This is the part I'm meant to play."
Before he could say anything else, three people moved faster than Midoriya could blink. Kaachan and Kirishima both leaped forward at the same time, arms reeled back as they activated their Quirks. Then, feeling the wind move his hair, a gray object dashed towards the villain as well.
Vin!
The girl must have broken on a piece of the railing because she now wielded a long, metal pipe. After training with her for the past few days, Midoriya was able to guess that she used a steel-push to propel herself forward into the battle. Then, he guessed, she used steel once more to throw the pipe at the villain.
Midoriya, for a moment, panicked. Was she going to kill him?
However, her attack was no more dangerous than their classmates. Kaachan's explosion allowed for some cover to be made while Kirishima brought his hardened fists down on the purple haze's 'face'. Then Vin's pipe flew between them and made a metallic ding as it hit something solid.
"DIE!" Kaachan yelled as he landed after his surprise attack. Kirishima smiled as well.
"Bet you didn't think we'd be tough enough to attack first!" the redhead laughed, swiping his hands at the smoke.
Vin, however, landed next to the boys and put her hands up, pointing at something inside the smoke. "It's not over yet," she hissed.
"Indeed," the villain whispered, his eyes reforming as the smoke from Kaachan's explosion cleared. "That was quite an attack, I should have expected this from the 'golden eggs' that'll hatch into heroism. But you are still just foolish children."
Thirteen raised a hand, one of her finger-caps uncorking, and yelled, "run away, now!" But she couldn't use her Quirk, not with three students between her and the villain.
The purple man must have realized this as well. His smoke began to billow around them sharply, surrounding the class. "You will be scattered. And tortured. And slain!"
Midoriya didn't think. He just reacted. Running forward, he tried to grab someone's, anyone's, hand. But the villain's Quirk, a teleportation ability, had already taken hold. Gravity started to pull him upward for a moment as he grew lost in the smoke. When he looked up, he was shocked to see a large body of water and a half-submerged boat in the center of a lake.
I'm looking down! Not up! The boy let out a loud scream as he splashed into the water. Kicking, he turned around and returned to the surface, gasping for breath.
"The flood zone?" he wondered aloud. Before he could call for help though, something pulled at his leg. Midoriya took a breath and looked down, seeing a new villain, this one with a shark-like head and scuba gear, swimming past him. "Bluh-gah!" Midoriya yelped, bubbles spilling from his mouth.
The shark villain chuckled, his voice audible through the water. "Oh, look. Some new chum. It's nothing personal, but-" the villain's mouth opened wide, revealing rows of sharp teeth, "-sayonara sucker!"
Midoriya screamed again, more bubbles flying from his mouth. Luckily, like an aquatic angel, a figure broke through the water and smashed, feet first, into the villain's face. Tsuyu Asui ribbited at the impact and quickly flung her elongated tongue towards Midoriya, calling out his name as she did. Midoriya quickly grabbed the appendage and was pulled harshly upwards.
It felt like his arms were going to be ripped off as Asui flung him through the water, breaking the surface, and then tossing him onto the half-sunken ship (which the boy landed heroically on his back). Groaning, Midoriya turned onto his side and reached a hand down to help pull the girl up. He didn't have to, however. Asui easily jumped from the water and onto the boat.
"Are you okay?" she asked.
Midoriya gasped, taking in a deep breath for what felt like the first time in forever. "Yes-s-s," he shivered. Thankfully, he was only stuttering from the cold and not his own embarrassment. "Thank you, Asui. W-where is everyone?"
"Call me Tsu, ribbit. And I don't know. You were the first person I saw after falling through the portal."
"I s-s-see." Midoriya looked upwards, where the purple mist was still visible. "Maybe they scattered everyone across different zones. This was all some big… plan…" His mouth began to slow as he saw one more figure expelled from the cloud before disappearing. Vin, wreathed in her gray cloak, spun frantically in the air.
Why doesn't she just- Midoriya gasped and remembered how she didn't grab anything from their costume chests. Her vials of metals, discs, and daggers were all left behind since she wasn't expecting to have to use them. But she should still be able to Pull on the boat. Or Push away from it towards the beach.
But when Midoriya grabbed the ship's railings, he realized that while it looked like a real boat, only the paint was metallic. The structure itself seemed to be made of wood. And she can't use her Quirk on anything but metal!
"Tsuyu!" he yelled, pointing at the figure.
The girl ribbited and nodded. "Understood." She then jumped into the water and started swimming.
Vin hit the water like a wet bag of cement. Her body, visible only for a few moments, wriggled frantically as her cloak began to drag her down. Midoriya watched in panic as her hands, outstretched and shaking, slowly sunk beneath the waves.
She can't swim! Panicking, Midoriya thought about jumping in after her. Tsuyu can handle this, the rational part of his brain explained. However, it was the other floating objects that truly made him question the decision. Slowly but surely, more aquatic villains began to surround him.
"Come back here, chum!" the shark-villain bellowed. "I'm going to kill you!"
Luckily, none of the villains were close to where Vin fell. Midoriya kept glancing between where she and Tsuyu should be and where the villains were converging. "Where are you?" he muttered.
"Here, ribbit."
Midoriya screamed, almost jumping back into the water as the frog-girl appeared from nowhere. "How?!"
Tsuyu nodded at the water, and said, "I saw the villains swimming towards us, so we swam under the ship and got in through the hole in its side."
Gasping, Midoriya remembered that technically they were on a 'sinking' ship (literally and metaphorically). "Good job. How's Vin?"
"She's catching her breath, ribbit," Tsuyu said. "I don't think she can swim."
"Me neither. But that's not important. Those villains are going to be here soon, and we don't know how much of this was a part of their plan."
"Plan?"
Midoriya nodded. "Most likely the alarm from earlier was a distraction so they could steal a schedule of where All Might would be and when. It's just like Todoroki said, they were waiting for an opportunity and probably had most of this planned out in advance."
"And they must have something big planned if they're planning to kill him," Vin rasped, walking up to her fellow classmates. "They wouldn't have initiated an assault like this unless they were adamantly sure it would work."
Midoriya and Tsuyu nodded in agreement. However, the green-haired boy was more hesitant to do so. All he could think of was how she expertly tossed a knife into a villain's chest over such a large distance. That took training and practice.
Maybe her family are Heroes that don't care for what happens to villains, only that they are stopped? Some Heroes in other countries were like that, but due to Japan's low crime rate, laws were put in place to protect even those who broke it. But as Midoriya came up with excuses, he knew that's all they were.
Midoriya slapped his cheeks, making him focus. "She's right. They must have calculated a way to defeat All Might. But if those bastards think they can, then we have to fight back. And we have to win!"
All around the USJ, the many class members of 1A, and future heroes of Japan, would begin their fight against the Legion of Villains. All of them knew this would be their first real test in heroism and that they must succeed. This wasn't training, this was for real.
They wanted to kill All Might, the symbol of peace. So they'd stop the villains. Even if it would cost them their own lives.
Huge, huge thanks to my first-ever supporter!

Well, another cliffhanger, huh. To be honest, I planned to write out the entire battle into this chapter, but as I'm now on 10+ pages, I realize that might take more than I can give right now. Don't worry, it won't take long. I am already working on the next chapter, I just didn't want to force my readers to wait another few weeks for me to finish editing over 20 pages that'll probably tire me out by the end of the week.
The villains attacked! We got some nice POVs dealing with Aizawa's comments to Vin, as well as her own actions that seem to prove he was right. Aizawa and the other Pros know that at times, death is necessary, but these new heroes do not. And for Vin, where the only way to deal with an attacker was to kill them… well, that's a conflicting style of dealing with an opponent.
Worst of all, two of her closest 'friends' berated her for it. Oh, how will she cope?! (I know. Mwahahahahahaha)
I had a lot of fun writing this, so I hope you all enjoyed reading it. I'm really sorry to keep pushing the violence back to another chapter but I do have a life outside of this and it does require some focus. But I do feel bad for my lengthy breaks between uploads, so I hope you'll enjoy this installment until then.
There's a lot planned coming soon that I hope you'll all enjoy. Most of it will be familiar (not even Vin could take on a Nomu that was made to kill All Might) but there will definitely be a few surprises. ;)
And you read correctly, I am requesting another Beta/Editor. I do not know why they keep leaving me. All I know is one day we are working on a chapter, creating outlines and such, then they never answer my emails or messages.
We have still been unable to meet our goal of being the #1 Mistborn Fanfic. First is still being held by Slavok's Beautiful Destroyer with a difference of 135 Favorites and 231 Follows. C'mon guys! We can do it! Spread the word! Spam the 17th shard! It is possible!
Also, and I know I say it every chapter (like twice), please please please comment. It really makes my day reading new comments. Even if you're reading this a week from the post-date, don't be afraid to post what your favorite part was. Not only do your comments bring me the energy to continue writing, but they also help fuel my creative imagination for new unique ideas.
