Carrie sat up in her hospital bed. She was exhausted but beyond elated. Seventeen hours of labor was horrible but it led to the most beautiful baby in the world. She had her eyes and Doug's hair color. Doug came in.

"This is the most beautiful baby I've ever seen," Doug said, falling in love for the second time.

"I know," Carrie smiled.

She paused.

"We need to give the baby a name."

"I had a dream we named him Bobby," Doug said.

"Okay Doug," Carrie said, "We are not naming this baby Bobby."

"Give me one reason why not," Doug asked.

"Uh… because she's a girl!"

"Oh," Doug laughed, "Right."

Doug was so sure they were having a boy. He was shocked when the doctor came out and told him that Carrie had given birth to a girl.

"What about Reberta," he suggested, "It's similar to Bobby."

"It's ugly," Carrie said, "She needs a beautiful name."

She thought for a couple of minutes.

"Hey," she said, "How about Laurie?"

"That's a beautiful name," Doug said.

The baby started to cry.

"I don't think she likes it," Doug said.

Carrie rolled her eyes.

"She's hungry," she said, taking the baby and settling her on her breast. Soon Laurie Heffernan was sleeping peacefully.

"How did you know she was hungry," Doug asked.

"Um… because she hadn't eaten yet," Carrie said.

"She needs a middle name," Doug said.

"How about… Rachel?"

Carrie shook her head.

"Rachel doesn't go with Laurie," she said, "What about Jennifer?"

"I love that name," Doug said, "Carr? I'm so proud of you."

"Thank you," Carrie said, "It's definitely a job to give birth. I definitely know why they call it "labor". She was absolutely worth it."

"We need to give her a little brother," Doug said.

"Yeah… not anytime soon," Carrie said smiling.

Doug laughed. He kissed Carrie. He then kissed Laurie on the forehead.

"Hey kiddo," he said, "I'm your daddy and I love you very much. I won't always be perfect but just know that I love you and your the best thing that ever happened to me."
