As morning began for the Lucky Cat cafe, Hiro waved to his aunt on his way out the door. "Bye Aunt Cass, I'm off to school!"
"Oh, you and Baymax have fun!"
"Goodbye." The robot waved back.
But as he was about to exit, Cass called out to him. "Wait, before you go, can you please check up on Ari?"
"Is she sick?"
"Well, she still seems upset from what happened the other day."
Hiro frowned, concerned about what had been bothering her so much. "Of course." He nodded, then turned to Baymax. "Stay here."
"I will wait until you are done with your conversation with Ari." Baymax nodded, the robotics genius ran upstairs. Ari was lying down on her bed, her head staring at the window, the eyepatch still on her face.
"Shouldn't you have that removed by now?" She got up, making eye contact with him.
"Shouldn't you be going to school right now?" Ari fired back.
"Jeez, I just wanted to make sure you're okay." He didn't blame her being snappy, considering how the past few days treated her.
She then paused, conflict on her mind. "Hey Hiro, can I ask you something?"
"Of course." He sat next to her.
Ari placed her head into her hands. "Do you think that Juniper…" She hesitated. "Cared about me? At all?"
He frowned, Ari had never questioned her bond with the dancer, even when he had warned her to be careful, she never thought that Juniper's friendship with her had a double-edged sword. "Who said something to you and where can I find them?"
"N-no one!" She stuttered. "But, maybe she didn't think of me as a friend and just talked to me for her own entertainment, she did say all the time that she was bored and that she was glad talking to me cured her boredom."
"Did she say it in an annoying tone, did she treat you rudely last time High Voltage escaped, did she not listen to what you said in the past?" Without context it did sound suspicious.
Ari instantly shook her head. "None of the above."
"Then, I don't think so." Hiro told her. "Why did you ask?"
"It's been on my mind since yesterday, and what if it's true?" Ari placed a hand to her eye. "She did attack me…"
As much as Hiro wanted to tell her it wasn't true, he didn't exactly have evidence.
But... he didn't need scientific facts to see that their friendship was real and genuine. "Ari, personally I don't think she'd attack you on her own will since she seemed to care about you, shocking considering Juniper seems to care about nothing except her mom and fame-"
"Now you're just venting."
"But I promise that I'll find out, because I'm about as mad as Gogo is." Hiro didn't really show how angry at the crime-dancer for attacking his sister, but boy was he fuming. "And I'll make her give you an answer, okay?"
"Okay." Ari tugged the eyepatch. "Do you think I should take this off?"
"If you think you're fine." Hiro shrugged. "What's stopping you?"
"I'm scared of the scar." She winced. "It's a permanent reminder of my trauma on my face."
"You sounded like Wasabi when he got those burn scars from Steamer."
"Did he really?"
"Well not exactly but…" Hiro trailed off. "He vented about how he'd have to look at the burn scars every time he does yoga."
Ari tried not to laugh, she really did. "Am I a jerk for laughing?"
"I won't tell him."
"Do you have any scars?"
He shook his head. "The others have some cool scars, like Gogo has some from whenever we fought Momakase, and Honey Lemon and Fred have some for the separate times we were on Akuma Island." Hiro held his breath, not wanting to talk about any of his scars at the moment. "But for me… most of mine are internal."
"Ouch." Ari winced.
"It'd be cool if I got an external one on my nose." He touched the bridge of it. "Or across my eye like yours, or on the cheek, that'd be cool!"
"Yeah, but what would you tell Aunt Cass?" She laughed as Hiro paled.
"Cannot believe that's one pro from getting mostly internal scars." He winced.
Ari exhaled. "Fine, I'm gonna do it." She tugged the eyepatch, and pulled it off. Hiro got a good look at her right eye after the injury. The scar had two lines above her eye, and one below it, that was all that had remained from the claws, otherwise it had healed quite well. "Does it look bad?"
Hiro shook his head. "No, it looks fine." He gave a light chuckle. "If anyone at school asks, you could just say it was a random cat bothering Mochi!"
"I don't know if they'd buy it but okay…" Ari mumbled. "I'll ask the others to keep quiet about the truth."
"Feeling better now?" Hiro asked.
She nodded. "Yeah, it felt nice to get that off my chest…" Ari sighed. "But, as nice as it would be to think you're right, maybe I don't know Juniper at all, and she really was using me."
"Well…" Hiro frowned. He couldn't convince her for now, but he'd try. "I've got to get going, try looking up funny videos to cheer yourself up!"
"Sure. Have fun at school!"
"Thanks." Satisfied, he went back downstairs to get to SFIT, and Ari watched, then pulled out her phone and tried to find something entertaining. But she saw a news video talking about the dance, and groaned.
"Somehow I don't feel better at all right now…"
Another morning at SFIT, Karmi usually got to school a little early, so she'd have some free time studying or editing her story. But today she was making a beeline to the Robotics Lab to check on Honey Lemon.
To her surprise, she found the chemist asleep on her table. "How's it going?" Karmi gave her a light poke to wake her up.
Honey Lemon yelped and tripped. "I'm awake!" She quickly got up and shook her bedhead off. "Oh. Hi. Sorry."
"So, did you extract the chemicals?" She asked her.
"Actually, our conversation yesterday got me thinking." Honey Lemon replied. "What if instead I-"
"Neutralized them!" They chorused.
"Jinx!" The chemist winked at her.
Karmi grinned. "It would definitely be faster and-" her expression turned neutral as she turned around. "Oh."
"Hi!" Honey Lemon waved to Hiro and Baymax, who had just entered the lab.
"Hey Honey Lemon." He waved back to her. "Karmi. What's up?"
"Being bio besties!" Honey Lemon gave Karmi a pat on the head, the look on her face was processing the affectionate gesture.
"Please define 'bestie.'" Baymax requested.
"Oh, it's a friend, Baymax."
"Friend?" Hiro blinked. "With Karmi?" His tone was merely curious, but Karmi took offense to his words.
"Hey! We made a major scientific breakthrough!" She exclaimed. "You made any of those lately?"
"Oh, if you must know." Hiro gestured. "I'm working on a-"
She cut him off. "Sorry, did I say I was interested?"
"You asked!"
"Rhetorical!"
"Argh!" He groaned. "You are…" He took a deep breath and dragged the robot out of the lab. "C'mon, Baymax."
"Goodbye." The robot waved to them.
Karmi glared, and stuck her tongue out as the two exited the lab.
"That was…" Honey Lemon stared at her.
"So, annoying right?" Karmi grumbled.
"Actually, Hiro's a nice person." She pointed out. "I thought you two were friends though."
"Yeah, but he's so 'me, me, me' a lot of the time! Uhg." Karmi crossed her arms. "You're a fourteen year-old genius. We get it."
"Did you ever think you two don't get along sometimes because you're so similar?"
Karmi scoffed. "I am nothing like Hiro."
"In a good way." Honey Lemon applied the solution to the glob sample, and watched from the microscope as the cells stopped squirming. She gasped. "Wait. It worked!"
Karmi checked the microscope herself. "Ha! It worked!"
"We did it! Bio bestie hug!" The chemist squealed and pulled Karmi into a tight hug.
"I'm not really a hugger…" Karmi squeaked.
"You are now!" The biotech genius felt her chest tighten and her limbs shiver as Honey Lemon continued to hug her. She shrieked which caused the chemist to finally let her go.
"Never do that again!" Karmi snapped, shuddering.
Honey Lemon frowned. "Oh, I'm very sorry for scaring you like that, Karmi."
"You didn't scare me, I just…" What was she supposed to say? "I'm uncomfortable with physical contact."
"I've seen you get close to Ari a few times." Honey Lemon said. "Do you feel more comfortable if you're the one initiating contact?"
The biotech major nodded. "Yeah."
"Alright then, remind me if I forget that, okay?" Honey Lemon told her.
Karmi just gave her a shocked look. "You're okay with it?"
"Yeah! Respecting people's boundaries is part of the bio bestie code!" She smiled. "And every code when talking to people."
The biotech genius looked like she was about to tear up, but then smiled. "Is it okay if I give you a hug? Just a small one." Karmi sweatdropped seeing her face light up. "Still not really a hugger."
"That's fine." Honey Lemon replied.
And so the newfound bio besties exchanged a small but comforting hug to celebrate their friendship.
Ari took a deep breath as she looked at Globby up and down. "Right. Aunt Cass is having me supervise you for your first day on the job."
"Yep! I can't wait to start working!" He beamed, shaking her hand. But winced seeing how some of the goop got on Ari. "Oh, darn it! I'm sorry."
She just shook the goop off. "It's fiiine. This gives me some ground to work with though." Ari frowned. "You shouldn't handle making or getting the food to customers. And I don't think you'd be able to take orders either…"
Globby gave a small whimper.
"Um, you can turn your body into anything, right?"
"Uh-huh." He nodded.
"Well, can you turn your body into something… soft?" Ari asked. "I was thinking maybe you could work the dishes?"
"I mean, I can try." His head blinked, Globby's torso and limbs started turning into a wooly fabric. "I have to concentrate so I don't…" he trailed off and his body turned back into globs.
"Hmm…" Ari hummed. "Okay, okay, I think this can work. Put on a pair of gloves-" she looked down. "And boots, and let's try."
Somehow it was harder to keep Globby in a wooly state to prevent gloop sticking all over the cafe than it was to run the cafe. Cass helped a bit but she had to deal with the morning rush.
By the time it was late afternoon, Globby was still helping out behind the counter as he couldn't just do dishes all day, in a sunshine bubbly attitude which irritated the girls.
Then, the cafe door slammed open. "I found a cure, Globby!" Honey Lemon exclaimed.
"Really?!" Globby exclaimed, losing concentration and his body turned into globs again, which started to drip all over the cafe, some of it landed on customers and Cass. Several people yelped, including Ari. "Sorry." He winced.
"So he's going with you now, right?" Cass's eyes twitched.
Honey Lemon nodded.
"Sorry for uh… the mess and the stress." Globby told them, then saw how irritated they were. "I'm not coming back tomorrow, am I?"
"Probably not." Ari shrugged.
Ferns and Nerds group chat:
Sara Ferns: machine,jpeg
Sara Ferns: What is this
Honey Lemon: We're curing Globby!
David 19: good for him
Sienna Kline: The guy that turned good?
Mikan Ferns: Yes, is he okay with this?
Honey Lemon: Yeah!
Rachel Rosemary: Oh, cool. I've interacted with Globby a few times, he deserves some good luck
Gogo: Wait, really?
Fredzilla: Man you interact with everyone
Rachel Rosemary: I don't interact with most of you group chat denizens in public
David 19: Did you refer to us as the molemen?
Sara Ferns: Should I laugh?
David 19: I mean sure
Mikan Ferns: We are the molemen hurr durr gimmie all the gold!
Sienna Kline: Lmaoooooo you are so funny XD
Mikan Ferns: Am I funnier than your bf?
David 19: Mika!
Sienna Kline: Only a little bit
David 19: SIENNA
Globby watched as the machine whirred, and Honey Lemon placed the orange serum up top, and a bunch of other stuff he couldn't tell since he was standing inside of it.
"I think we're ready." She grinned, holding a monitor. Karmi was standing by her, the rest of the gang including the Fern kids were watching in awe.
"Wow." Sara clapped. "How'd you guys build this so quickly?"
"We chipped in a little." Wasabi told her.
"I got to help too." Mikan had a small smile on her face. "Thank you for allowing me to help guys."
Wasabi smiled back. "No problem, I'd like to try and be friends with you again Mikan, you've proven that you're trying to change."
"Same!" Fred added, his voice a little muffled by the crackers he was chewing on. He then turned to Gogo, who shrugged.
"I'm not making a big deal about it." Was all she said.
"That's fine." Mikan nodded. But it was hard for her to hide her joy as she was bouncing up and down and hugging her siblings. Finally happy to have earned the trust of her friend's again, and this time she wasn't going to mess up.
Globby knocked on the glass. "Sorry to interrupt but I'm a little unsure about this." He frowned. "Also I'm really nervous."
"Cracker?" Fred held out a box of his crackers. "I find that crackers halp."
"This won't hurt you. I promise." Honey Lemon told him.
Globby smiled. "I believe you."
"I mean… I think."
"What?"
Then she clicked a button and an orange vapor entered the chamber, Globby yelped. "Oh, that's refreshing!"
David raised an eyebrow. "What's happening?"
"The solution turned into a vapor and entered the chamber." Mikan narrated. "Easier than making a lot and dumping a bucket over Globby, I bet."
"Like the ice bucket challenge but with orange gloop?" Sara questioned.
"Ha-ha very funny."
Honey Lemon frowned, looking at the monitor. "Hmm."
"'Hmm?' A 'hmm' is bad, right? What's wrong?" Globby asked her.
"It doesn't seem to be working you should be-"
"Wait." He paused. "I think I'm feeling something, yeah-" then belched. "No. Sorry. False alarm."
"Is it the exact formula from earlier?" Karmi questioned.
"Yeah." Honey Lemon showed her the monitor. "Unless I miscalculated or… maybe our test was a fluke."
"Could it be the delivery system?" Hiro suggested.
Karmi snapped at him. "Uhg. No! We thought of that, already."
"Okay, just trying to help." He winced.
"Uh, guys…" Wasabi pointed to the chamber.
"What?"
"What."
Globby frowned. "What? What's happening?"
"I think it's working." Fred munched on his crackers.
"It's working?" He smiled. Honey Lemon stared at the monitor and saw the numbers dropping down, just as the globs started to disappear and reform into human flesh and bone. The orange vapor hissed, releasing into the lab, the chamber's glass foggy as a figure exited out.
Dibs then removed the neurotransmitter from his face. "It worked!" He then looked down and saw that all of his clothes were- "Does anyone have any pants?"
Sara yelped and covered both of the teens' eyes. "Sara..." Hiro frowned.
"Shield your eyes, children!" She exclaimed.
"I'm sixteen. I'm not a child." Karmi grumbled.
"Don't worry Glob- I mean uh…" Mikan paused. "What do I call you now?"
"Dibs." He chimed.
"Dibs, right, I have some spare clothes from Felony Carl." She pulled out a pair from the duffle bag she was holding. She had been talking to the gentleman when getting the message to head over to test the machine, and somehow the man had a pack of clothes in Dibs' size.
While the group was talking to Dibs, who was using Baymax as a chair, Karmi tiptoed over to Hiro. "My bad for snapping at you while you were trying to help." She sheepishly mumbled.
"It's cool." He grinned. "We were all a bit stressed when nothing happened. You and Honey Lemon did a great job."
"Thanks." She grinned back. Then noticed David had tears flowing down his cheeks. "Uh, you good?"
"I'm just so happy nothing bad happened!" David sniffled. "Maybe it's a sign all the monster stuff will stop!"
"Me too." Hiro hugged him. "Here, you are in need of a hug."
"Thanks!" Then they both started sniffling.
Karmi just comically rolled her eyes at the scene. "Boys." She mumbled.
A piece of the former glob monster's goop was released onto a petri dish, a small laser cut it in half, but the two smaller pieces regrew back to its original height. Liv smirked at the results.
"Cell regeneration?" Chris raised an eyebrow, he and Liv were wearing green goggles, he was drinking a mug of tea while they were working.
"Yes." She held up a beaker. "If I can figure it out, this could be the breakthrough."
He blinked. "You mean for-"
"What else?" She finished mixing a solution in the beaker, and placed it into the syringe, then released it into one of the globs. "Now. Let's see if I can amplify the tissue's regenerative abilities."
The infected glob turned purple, it gurgled and consumed the other glob, the petri dish, and all the equipment on their table.
"Interesting." Liv placed the glob into a glass container and hooked it onto a tube. Chris watched as she pressed buttons and more of the formula entered the container. The glob started breaking through its prison, glass and globs went everywhere as the container broke.
Chris shielded them both with an umbrella. It then reformed as a large, writhing purple glob that gurgled out a roar. He dropped the umbrella in shock.
Liv was unaffected. "Pretty neat, right?" She gestured to it. "Put it in a containment cell. Get it something to eat."
She needed time to study her new experiment.
It was late evening in San Fransokyo. Mikan yawned as she entered Joe's Diner. "I hope they're still serving lunch." She mumbled. "If not, I'll just grab a burger."
When she entered, the first thing Mikan noticed was a man-Dibs she corrected, sitting by an empty table. Curious, she walked up to him. "Gl- I mean Dibs?"
He looked up from his phone. "Oh, hi Mikan, didn't see you there."
"What are you doing by yourself?" She questioned.
Dibs frowned. "I wasn't by myself, Felony Carl and I were having lunch a bit ago! He had to leave for something, I'm just waiting for the check."
"Oh." She noticed he was looking at a picture on his phone, the photo was him as Globby taking a photo with Big Hero 6, shortly after saving the city. "Do you… regret turning back to normal?"
"Wh-what makes you say that?" Dibs stammered. "First Felony Carl, now you, it seems everyone has laser eyes."
"More like observant." Mikan sighed. "What did Felony Carl say?"
"He said that I'm special, despite not being a mutant anymore." He swiped to another photo. "I'd like to believe him, but…"
"I guess you need time to digest it."
"Yeah." He showed her another photo, this time being with the villains instead of the heroes. "Remember when we got the others for a group picture?"
"Yeah!" She snickered. "Pops was so mad, but Tri' and Noodle loved it!" They both laughed for a bit, then sighed.
"You must miss them a lot." Dibs frowned.
"I do miss Pops, but a part of me knows that his actions lead to his fate." Mikan sighed. "But Tri' and Noodle, they are a little… vindictive."
"Ouch." He winced. "Did you encounter them a lot?"
"Not really, I do know she's out there. But I still hope that she'll change her ways."
"I hope for your sake that you're right."
"Can I ask why you've been so gung-ho about trying to be normal?" She raised an eyebrow. "Is money that tight for you and Felony Carl?"
Dibs shook his head. "No, we're fine." He then narrowed his eyes. "Wait how did you know that me and Felony Carl-"
"Are roommates?" She smirked. "Well you did sneak out of the hideout a lot to visit him, hmmm?"
"Can I continue?"
"Sure, don't mind me."
"Right. Well I hadn't thought about it since I had been so busy with community service, which I got done a few days ago." Dibs boasted. "But, it was so generous of Felony Carl to have me move in with him, that I felt like a freeloader."
"I feel your pain." Mikan hummed. "I've been feeling like a freeloader for my siblings and Mom and Steven, but I think just being in their lives is enough payment."
"When did you become Socrates?"
"Shut up…" She grumbled. "I'm just gonna get food now, I came here for food, not to talk my jaw off."
"I can put it on my tab if you'd like." Dibs offered.
"No, I'm good." Mikan shrugged. "Don't wanna be a freeloader."
"Didn't we just discuss that?"
"Uch, you shush."
AN: Halfway through Nega-Globby!
Y'know one thing I find weird? Globby/Dibs turned back to normal without his clothes but in City of Monsters... everyone who got mutated still had their clothes magically appear when they got turned back even tho in some cases it was torn.
I'm just... *confusion*
Anyways enough about my rambling onto talking about the chapter
-Ari still is gonna have mixed feelings about the dance thanks to the doubt "Liv" planted in her, but Hiro's gonna try his best to keep his sister on the positive, he wants to believe that the scarring was an accident but he doesn't have all the facts, he's gonna keep on the bright side though
-Even if Karmi and Hiro are friends early on in HOF, they still bicker XD because friends do that
-Yeah I decided this was the ep that Mikan was forgiven by the gang, since I think enough time had passed. They won't forget her actions, but everyone's ready to move on from that, and speaking of that...
-Really wish I focused on Mika's relationship with the other villians in Obake's team (maybe if I ever rewrite Ferns and Nerds). She misses her family, even if they were evil and Trina and NBB hate her guts rn, Mikan still loves them and she just hopes that her robot siblings can move on like she's trying to.
But that's the ep. Originally the last scene was gonna be in next chapter but I think it fits better here.
QOTW: Who do you think in the show is a hugger, and who's not? (Try to think of some characters that aren't the main gang for this one)
