A/N: Hey there, just a little idea that popped into my head when listening to this song. The song is called Walking Higher by Heather Nova.
Disclaimer: I wish, but sadly no.
Almost before he knew what he was doing, the Doctor had used his sonic screwdriver to send the bride into a deep sleep. Normally he would be inquisitive and want to know why she was on his TARDIS and how she had got there.
But not today, not now. For now he needed to be alone with his grief.
My Rose is gone
The thought reared up inside him like a terrible demon, one more to add to his collection. He wandered the halls of the TARDIS, a sleepwalker. Tears ran down his face.
Gone
He had come to the door of her bedroom, his hand hovered over the handle. He didn't know if he could face this. Running his hand through his already tousled dark hair, he turned the handle and pushed the door open.
Her room was exactly as she had left it, a top on the floor, a pair of jeans and some teddies on the unmade bed. Her room waited for her. The Doctor lit one of the candles on the bedside table and decided that her room would wait forever, he would ask the TARDIS to preserve it as a memorial, somewhere he could always feel close to her.
I
carry you with me,
a ghost inside
And in these shattered
arms
you're still alive.
I carry you with me,
a holy
shrine
and dogs and angels follow
right behind.
She had told him she would stay with him forever. He would honour her wish. Rose would fly with him in spirit for all eternity.
And
could I be walking higher,
Could I be right beside her ?
He had visited the memorials on Earth, seen Rose and Jackie's names on the tall stone. Had laid a single white rose on the earth. All the while knowing that others were grieving for those who hadn't survived, and feeling guilty for it.
The
bones they buried
will feed the trees
but every word you ever
spoke
is still in me.
The Doctor sat on the bed, clasping the jumper, one of her favourites. He could still smell her, almost believe that he was hugging her for a moment. Before reality hit him again.
He would never see her again.
And
could I be walking higher,
Could I be right beside her ?
He lay down, burying his face in the pillow as the tears fell. His memories of her were many and each would be treasured, from the first time he had saved her life. Grasped her hand. "Run." To the last time she had saved his. Let go of the only thing keeping her safe to keep him safe.
The one memory of her that would stay as clear as when it had happened for a long time was the last one he had of her. Those last three words she had said to him. "I love you." He had taken his time, too much time, had never managed to reply.
And
I will feel for you in the music.
And I will send that river
home.
And I will cry for you sometimes
when the night is
down.
And I raise my head up to the mountains,
talk to the
birds and I fly
'cause the spirit lives on,
when the body dies
As his sobs died down, he remembered the message his last regeneration had recorded for Rose, which of course she had ignored completely. "Have a fantastic life." She would want him to do that, and he would, in a little while. In a bit he would send the TARDIS to her next destination. Traveling was something she had loved, it would make him feel close to her again.
And
could I be walking higher,
Could I be right beside her?
Could I
be walking higher
Could I be right beside her?
But first he had to do one thing, just one. Sitting up, he looked at a picture of Rose and himself that sat on the table. She was so beautiful.
Rose Tyler, I love you.
A/N: Well there we go, now pretty please tell me what you think like the coolest people do.
