Regardless of what Reborn, Fon, or Viper had said it was very obvious they were all thinking the same thing. What if they had pushed Skull to the end of her sainted patience? What if it was the 'straw that broke the camel's back'; as the saying went.
When Skull did come down from in her room her face was unreadable. The way her eyes ticked from one to the other. She was covered with long sleeves, and her hair was in disarray, and even with the messiest hair Fon had ever seen she still radiated beauty. Her hand rested on her hip, drumming to a beat only she could hear, her motorcycle helmet rested under her other arm.
"Lacky." Reborn said, his eyes locked on the keys clenched in her fist, the helmet under her arms.
"I'm going out. Vipers mist illusions are good, but we need a new window." She said before any more words could be said.
"I'll come with you Kora." Colonnello shouted as he jumped up getting a heavy sigh form the Cloud.
"I'm taking my bike Sempai." She avowed with a twist of her lips in the parody of a smile that didn't reach her eyes.
"We can take Reborn's car Kora, that away we can get the window home." The words rushed out as he looked at the petite woman.
"Let the idiot go with you Skull." Lal called from her own spot, as she leaned back in her seat. "He's being annoying." She shrugged when the Cloud looked over at her. "I don't feel like hearing him whine while you're out. I may run him over with a tank."
"Wouldn't be the first time." Colonnello murmured with a sappy lovesick look towards his lover.
"You can come." Skull began as the male Rain looked at her with a happy grin, "but I am taking my bike. You can follow in a car." She nodded as she headed towards the door, hearing more than seeing Colonnello scrambling to follow.
Somehow, out of all of them Colonnello was the hardest to hold a grudge against. The man had always reminded her of a puppy. She enjoyed the feeling of going 190 down the open road. The feeling of speed and danger as she turned corners too sharp and the way it made her feel alive. She had left the Rain far behind, and at that moment she couldn't care less. The sound of her heartbeat. The thrum of the blood in her veins. The call of the open road, it called to her like nothing else could ever compare.
In that moment there was the road and her, and that was it. She didn't have to think about Fon, his stupid fake smile that she had never believed. The feel of his arms around her as he pinned her. The excitement of a challenge that danced in his eyes. The heat of his mouth on hers. The feeling of his hands, the ones she knows had taken more lives than she wanted to think about, trembling as he held her with a gentleness that she had never felt before.
She didn't have to think about Reborn. The stupid hitman who thought she would come crawling to him when injured as if he had never laid a hand upon her person for no better reason than she was their and he was annoyed.
She didn't have to think of Yuni, who was so much like her grandmother that she could never feel comfortable around her.
She didn't have to think of Viper and their hallow apology. Lal and her I know best attitude. Colonnello and his stupidity. Verde, and his experiments. None of those mattered, not right now.
Too soon for her liking she was pulling into the small town situated an hour drive from the mansion. She smiled as she slowed down, waving at some of the locals who called out a greeting. She stopped at the local glass maker and sat in a single seat the man had up front, waiting patiently for the Rain to show up.
"You're crazy." The man said in way of greeting when he finally got in.
"You noticed?" She snarked getting a laugh from the Rain.
"Come on Lacky," he grinned at her as she stood to her feet.
"Ah, how can I help you sirs?" The middle-aged potbellied man asked. His teeth were yellow, but his eyes crinkled in a very friendly manor.
Colonnello paused at the man's greeting, sirs? "Were in need of a new window, ours had an accident." Skull said with a smile, the way she was looking at the man with such a kind expression made him want to smile. She reminded him of another pretty girl he knew.
"Of course, Sir, and what dimensions are you looking for?" The shopkeeper asked and Colonnello blinked stupidly at the man for a moment. Okay, he was definitely addressing Skull, but this wasn't Comsubin where it was common to address even one's female superiors as sir. So why was this guy?
"Dimensions?" Skull's voice brought him out of his thoughts.
"Hold on Kora, I have them." He said shaking his head, "Reborn sent me the dimensions for what we need." He explained taking out his phone. It didn't take long to order what they needed, and he smiled as Skull reached for her wallet, his hand coming out to stop her.
"Fon's paying for it Kora." He said pulling out the card his Storm had given him before he left with instructions to purchase the window and anything that caught their Clouds eyes.
"Alright, well then come on I have other things I want." She said folding her arms, looking for all the world like she didn't care, but while Colonnello might be an idiot, he thought he knew his Cloud enough to see she wasn't comfortable.
"Come on Kora, and I'll get us some ice at the shop I spotted coming up." He said, watching Skull's posture slump just a tad.
"The great Skull-Sama is not paying Sempai!" Skull said with a haughty tone, her eyes held a sparkle of amusement as she headed out.
"Your little brother is a favorite sir." The shopkeeper said with a fond laugh as he handed back Fon's card and the door had shut behind Skull's form. "He is always very kind when he comes to visit. You must be proud of him, no?"
Colonnello could only nod in agreement because…what? Little brother? It's not that he had anything against Skull being his sibling, especially if they bonded as Sky and Rain. But Skull without…well without the disguise was very much female. You couldn't mistaken Skull for a guy.
He waited until they were seated, and their ice had been delivered before confronting his Cloud, because even the waiter had called Skull a he. "Kora?" He began only to pause. He really didn't want to set Skull off, not while the Cloud was being friendly. He watched amusement dance in her eyes as she looked at him as if she knew what he was thinking.
"Lacky, why does everyone call you a he?" He asked raising an eyebrow.
"Because that's what they see." She answered with a grin on her lips. "You see me as I am. They see Skull De Mort."
"That's not possible." He barked out, he didn't feel any mist illusion and she wasn't wearing those piercings.
"Why not?" She challenged him; an eyebrow raised with a smirk playing across her mouth.
"I would be able to feel the Mist flames Lacky." He scowled and got a laugh from his companion.
"If they were Mist flames, sure." She agreed making him blink, his eyes narrowed.
"If it's not Mist flames then what is it?"
"Why Sempai, its magic. A magician never reveals their secrets." She said in a sing song voice that would have had him beating her up just days ago. Days, it felt more like a lifetime ago since their world had been turned upside down.
