Part 2
2 years later…
Daylight broke on the far-off horizon when Sakura rose from a deep slumber; her arms lifting above her head as she stretched her lean body lazily in the soft glow of morning's first light. She turned to her right and smiled softly at the still sleeping figure beside her, his left hand still resting protectively (more like possessively) on her upper thigh while his right arm shielded his closed eyes from her slowly wandering gaze.
She watched for a few moments as his chest rose and fell before rising and exiting the warmth of his sheets… which has become far, far too familiar over the last few years than she would care to acknowledge. Sakura felt like she was in need of a good shower and some warm breakfast before the day could truly begin.
And what a day it would be.
.
.
.
"Sakura…," Sasuke growled, his left hand gripping the steering wheel tightly while the other held his phone up to his ear. "Where are you?" He heard shuffling and a low grunt before she responded, voice slightly out of breath.
"I'm… ugh… at the top of… K… I'm… to be… meet me at… you… target… grr… asshole…"
Bang. Thump. Crash. Then… silence.
"Sakura? Where are you? Sakura? DAMN IT!" Sasuke slammed his thumb on the red "end call" button before tossing his phone to the passenger seat. His foot may or may not have pressed a little harder on the gas and he may or may not have swerved in and out of traffic as he pressed several buttons into his car's built in gps.
'Thank god for tracking,' Sasuke mused before taking a sharp right when Sakura's phone signal flashed across the screen; nearly sideswiping a small SUV. The driver blared his horn, but Sasuke ignored him and continued to drive onto several more streets before he finally made it to his destination.
Without even shutting off the engine, Sasuke exited the vehicle at a quickened pace; heart pounding in his ears as he pushed himself further, faster, until—
BANG.
BANG.
Two very loud gunshots rang out, causing him to pause for only a second before rushing forward once again, drawing his own deadly weapon from the waistband of his pants in the process before thrusting it forward.
He took careful and measured steps, his eyes shifting this way and that while he scanned his surroundings closely. He could feel his throat tightening as the scent of blood penetrated his nostrils and he just prayed that it wasn't Sakura's.
A dull thump told him that the perpetrator… or possibly perpetrators… were in the room to his left and he gathered a large breath before stepping in front of the closed door. His foot lifted, then—
SMASH!
Wood splintered beneath his heel and the now broken door fell from its metal hinges in a crumpled heap. He took one step forward and there she was; fun drawn up and aimed at his chest, just as he taught her. Sasuke's eyes shifted down only for a second to look at the dead body on the ground at her feet before he placed his gun back in the holster at his hip.
"What the hell happened," he demanded and watched as she tucked her own bloodied gun back into place. Sakura rolled her eyes and brushed the blood from her hands onto her pants before giving him a stern look.
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you."
"Try me."
Sakura's expression darkened, and she looked at the dead body with a frown. "This is the guy who ruined my life." Sasuke also looked down, black eyes focusing on the man's features before a hint of recognition struck him.
"This is…"
"Yeah."
"Going for the higher ups, Sakura?"
"You don't understand…," she hissed, her hand balling into a fist. When her green eyes closed and a soft sigh escaped her slightly parted lips, Sasuke wanted to go to her but he refrained from doing so; knowing that she needed him to listen… to understand why she did what she did. "It was four years ago… to the day actually…," Sakura started with a bitter laugh. "I was in desperate need of a job, of money, and this guy (she nodded at the corpse) offered me a deal that I just couldn't refuse, though in hindsight, I really didn't know what was in store for me. If I did…," her expression twisted painfully before she shook her head vigorously as if to clear it.
Sasuke took a step forward. "You don't have to tell me if it's too painful."
"No…," the pinkette said with a sad smile. "I… want to tell you. Listen Sasuke, I know what your family is and I know what they do, but for someone like me… a small-town city girl with a big dream… I was just too naive for all of this stuff at the time. At the time, I just didn't really understand that 'dancing' meant dancing… you know. I didn't know… (she took a shallow breath) I didn't know how the whole clubbing scene worked but by that point it was way too late."
"What do you mean? Why didn't you just leave once you found out?"
Her eyes narrowed. "I couldn't. The damn contract. I was fucking trapped… trapped in a web of deceit and exploitation. They used me… us… the dancers I mean. They used our bodies to help them gain more attention in the "industry" … and to try and move up in the illegal aspects… which they obviously did, since you and your brother were there that night."
Sasuke remembers the night in question all too well.
Sakura's soft feminine curves…
Her sweet, sultry moans…
Her… everything.
If he had known then, what he knows now—
"Anyway, a part of the reason why I agreed to go with you is because I was just tired of it. Two years is a long fucking time to be trapped and I couldn't do it anymore. I know I looked like I had it together… but I didn't. I still don't really."
"Well, it all worked out in the end."
"For now, anyway," the pinkette said with a small smile, her eyes focusing on him for the first time in a while. He smirked.
"So, you didn't come with me for my good looks and the great sex?"
"Sasuke-kun!" He chuckled, but reached for her hand and gave her knuckles a chaste kiss.
"You have to admit that it was pretty great."
"Can we not go there right now… with (she glanced at the man who was still lying on the ground, unmoving) him present?" Sasuke just rolled his eyes.
"Anyway, are there any more surprises that you have in store for me? When you discussed that you had a new target, I didn't know who it was that you would be going after. I need to know if there is anyone else that you might have in mind, Sakura… before you do something like this again."
"Hey, he had it coming!"
"Sakura, don't…," his tone was laced with irritation and he placed his hand on his hip. Sakura tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ears and gave him a sheepish grin.
"Well, I—"
After several minutes of explaining on her part he could only sigh and shake his head before thrusting his thumb behind him. "Go clean up. I'll take care of the 'trash'."
Sakura smirked and brushed her fingertips along his upper thigh as she passed him before whispering in his ear, "Yes, boss."
.
.
.
"Sasuke-kun…"
They sat together after returning to his home, Sasuke's back against the headboard of his bed while she rested between his parted thighs, and Sakura was nervously fidgeting with a thin thread on his comforter while biting at her bottom lip.
"Hmm," Sasuke hummed absentmindedly while typing a message to his brother to update him on the situation as it now stands.
"Are you still mad at me? For doing this without you I mean? He was my target after all, the damn bastard." Sakura couldn't stop the slight bitterness from seeping into her tone as she mentioned him, the sole reason for her suffering over the past few years.
'He had it coming,' she thought bitterly, before a strong hand landed on her wrist, stopping her already balled up fist from tightening any further. She felt his fingers press into her skin before he began tracing soothing circles against it. Sasuke placed his phone on his night stand before wrapping his arm around her shoulders to pull her closer.
"I was never mad at you."
"Are you sure about that?"
"Sakura." His tone was tired, but also a warning. She knew better than to argue with him and twisted around so that she could appease him with a chaste kiss to the cheek. "I just don't like when you go and do these jobs without backup."
"Without you, you mean."
"It's the same difference, Sakura. You should always have an extra man on hand… in case things go badly. I've told you this, many times."
"I know you have. I'm sorry."
He sighed and placed his chin against the top of her head. "Just… don't scare me like that again, alright?"
"I won't. I promise, Sasuke-kun." After a beat, "But you have to admit…," she whispered, before twisting in his grasp to face him; her hands resting on his chest while her legs moved to straddle his own. Her lips pulled up into a wicked grin and she winked at him. "You trained me well."
He let out a low chuckle before pulling her in for a kiss. "Yes, I did."
