This was designed to test out the roles between the brother, I have never written Naruto having a brother so the changes are hard to write... advise is welcome.

Hiruzen pitied Naruto more than any other being. No one showed him kindness, he was constantly striving for attention and frankly the kid struggled with basic things. he had Kagami though, and that seemed to help...except Kagami was cold, meaner and more dedicated. It was like watching Hashirama and Tobimara over again, one joyous and powerful, the other quiet and smart. The boy's butted heads often, he had heard them arguing many times from his crystal ball. He loved the boy's both of them, but he adored Naruto far more than he ever did Kagami.

Kagami was too quiet, too self-reliant. He never asked for help, likely knowing he would never get it. He never played pranks, or lightened Hiruzen's days with jokes or stupidity. Naruto was just kinder, warmer. Neither boy inherited their father's intelligence or skills but it was clear that Naruto had his father's golden heart. Kagami just didn't have that... he was... duller...

He was what Naruto would have been if he was a better student, that was for sure, but that was it. They had the same intellect, he had them tested, Inoichi determined them identical in all ways but for Kagami, his personality was one of calm determination. He took the same energy Naruto used for pranks and attention and put it into studying and effort. It showed too, he was on the top part of his class, tied with Shino and just under Sasuke.

Hiruzen knew that Naruto needed the help, he always did, so he was going to get Kakashi as his teacher. For his powers and for the Kyuubi. Naruto was the more affected by the Fox and the village's hatred. He needed more guidance, a closer eye... Kagami just didn't need that. He could teach himself, which he would have to do as there were no teams for him. He would end up in the reserves, intentionally, and fill in the spots left behind by other absent Clan Ninja or those who were injured. The boy did not need the guidance of a teacher, like Naruto he was likely to be a mediocre life long Chunin...

And that was okay to Hiruzen...

Kagami grabbed his money from it's hiding place and counted it out. "Okay... I have enough for a down payment." He frowned. "Who would let me live in their complex though, most people hate me... damn." Frustrated, he bit his lip and groaned. "I might be doomed to live with my idiot brother forever." Already tired, he rubbed his face. "I need to escape him... I cannot wait to get into ANBU. That way I have a free place to live..."

Sealing his stuff away, he turned and hurried out of the apartment, walking past a sleeping Naruto, and hurried to his personal training ground. He fell into a stance as soon as he landed in the clearing, kicking out with a harsh power. He moved, flowing from movement to movement, kata to kata, fighting imaginary ninja for what felt like hours. He had a week until he became a ninja officially until he was allowed access to the library. He could not wait to start to expand his jutsu repertoire, he could not wait to bolster his strength, his powers, his everything.

It could not come fast enough until he had the skills to enter ANBU and finally thrive. He wanted to be free of Naruto, of the burden of being hated for the Kyuubi... he wanted his own merit to matter, something that never seemed to happen before...

He could not wait until he was allowed to matter at all...

"... and that is what happened with Mizuki! I passed, Gami!"

Kagami feigned a smile, pretending to be happy for his brother who once again had special Kage given privilege. It was so... deeply, immeasurably frustrating. 'I love you Ru, but you should have been punished for painting the monument, or a million of your other pranks. You should have failed out since you skipped most of class. You should have been denied for not studying or working at anything... I love you but that is the truth. You do not deserve to be a ninja and now you have the means to make hundreds of physical clones, making you way stronger despite no real effort... I earned it all, I trained until dark and beyond daily and now you might be able to beat me out of sheer power...' Sighing internally, he hugged Naruto. "I am happy you are happy, Ru. Always."

Naruto beamed. "I can't wait to use my new jutsu, I am a badass."

'No, you are just really lucky. You can't even teach me it since you do not remember what the scroll said!' Sighing some more, he turned away. "So... what now?"

"I am going to relax until we get our teams. I wonder who we are getting, do you know Gami?"

"No, not really... anyway, we have to go get our pictures taken in an hour, make sure you're ready, okay." Naturally, Kagami straightened out Naruto's stupid orange jumpsuit he insisted on wearing. "You have to look professional."

Naruto pushed him away. "Stop being a mom!"

"I would if you could be trusted to act right. People hate us for breathing, for hosting the stupid Fox... we can't give them any reason to hate us more. No dressing up like a clown, I saw the paint you bought." he flicked his brother's nose.

Naruto held his offended flesh. "I am the big brother, stop it!"

"Ru?" He asked, his tone commanding.

Naruto bowed his head, pouting. "I am a big boy now, a real ninja... you don't need to take care of me, Gami!"

He pulled Naruto into his chest, a weird thing since they were exactly the same height. "I will always take care of you, Ru... it is my curse." He meant it too, Naruto really was his curse, for better or worse. He may be jealous of him and even hate him a little, but he would always take care of him... now and forever. He had been doing it for his entire life. How could he ever stop...

Hell, even his dream of being ANBU started out as a way to take care of Naruto from the Shadows before it warped into what it became. Taking care of Naruto was what he was, even if he tried to deny it...

"Hey, Gami... can we go to Ichiraku Ramen tonight?"

Kagami saw his brother's face and could not deny him. "Sure, Ru... but you're paying." He may not like Ramen like Naruto but he did like the atmosphere of Ichiraku, they were never anything but kind to him and Naruto. They let them in during the rain when they were little, it took a solid week to start to trust them but boy did he never regret it... "I am in the mood for something beefy today. Anyway, let's go get our pictures."

This was fun, simple and good.
