The Coffin Occupant spent his days escaping his coffin. After park hours, though not a ghost, he was invited to hang out with them.
He hung out in Thunder Mesa, playing cards with the Mayor, and drinking beer in the saloon with the cowboys.
Back in his coffin by morning.
The Phantom Manor at Disneyland Paris takes place at Thunder Mesa and is connected to the Big thunder Mountain.
Interestingly, the Mayor of Thunder Mesa animatronic uses the same mould as Dreamfinder from the original incarnation of Journey Into Imagination and has the voice of the Ghost Host from the US Haunted Mansions. It's especially creepy when he takes off his head!
Also, the Coffin Occupant of the Phantom Manor is a skeleton trying to escape his coffin, as opposed to a dude trapped in a coffin.
