"The sky's so beautiful this time of day." Kairi commented dreamily. She was lying face-up in the sand next to Sora, staring up at the darkening sky. She was right, the sky was covered in a thin layer of slowly moving clouds, and it looked much vaster than normal. The moon was barely peaking out from the clouds, and Kairi's eyes glistened in it's light.
Sora wasn't sure whether Riku was watching her, or the sky, or whatever. He was sitting up on the fork in the tree on the other side of him, not really making any noise. Sora lowered his right hand, on which he'd been resting his head, to his side. As his hand hit the sand, his finger brushed Kairi's wrist, against the bracelet she was wearing.
"Oh! Kairi, I forgot…" He sat up, and rummaged in his pocket, and pulled out a yellow, star-shaped charm. Kairi raised herself up half way, and rested herself on her elbows. Sora showed her what he was holding, and then placed it in her hand. "Thanks for lending it to me, it really helped." She smiled at her own hand; clutching the good luck charm she'd given him months before.
"You didn't have to give this back." She said.
"You said to bring it back to you…"
"I know." She laid back down on the sand. "But I didn't really mean it." Sora laid down next to her, and drew his attention to the sky.
"Wonder how Roxas and Namine are doing." Said Kairi, not really looking for an answer.
"They'd be pretty much the same as us, wouldn't they?" Said Sora. Kairi smiled.
"Oh, yeah. I forgot." She got very quiet again
"Everyone else, though. Donald, Goofy. King Mickey. Leon, Aerith, Yuffie…"
"They're all fine." Assured Kairi. "They must be. Thanks to the Keyblade Master." Sora smiled.
"Yeah," he raised his hand, and the Keyblade appeared in it. He brought it down a little to examine it. "Couldn't have done it alone. Not without Donald and Goofy. And Riku saved my life that time…"
"Yeah, he was great." Kairi nodded. "But you were, too." She sat up, and pulled the Keyblade toward her, and wrapped her lucky charm around the handle. Sora smiled at her, and she smiled back.
"Hey! Lovebirds!" Called a voice beside them, both jumped a bit, startled.
"Huh?" Said Sora. Riku laughed, they'd almost forgotten he was there.
"Seems like you two might want one of these." He tossed a star-shaped fruit down to them. Sora caught it, and they both looked down at it.
"A paopu!" Cried Kairi. She looked up at Sora. He looked confused for a moment, and then he smiled, and tore off a piece, and handed it to her. She smiled back, and took it.
"Hey, Riku!" He called, and tossed another piece up to him. Riku straightened up as it hit his lap.
"What?" He asked, picking up his hunk of the fruit.
"There's no rule that says you can only share it with one other person." Said Sora. "What would our destinies be like without you in them?" He smiled, and all three of them lie back to relax in their original positions, sharing their paopu, and taking comfort in the thought that they would always be in each other's lives, no matter what happened.
