Princess Bunny
A/N: I added another piece of the story to the end of the last chapter in case y'all read it before I added it. I felt it made more sense to have that scene in that chapter. Hope you enjoy.
Sarah was helping out the island cleanup crews when she saw a little girl crying. She looked around, but it didn't look like anyone was paying attention or cared. She decided to help.
"Hey, what's the matter?" She asked the girl softly as she approached. She recognized her as one of her father's friend's daughter. The girl looked at her, eyes wide. "It's ok. I'm Sarah. What's your name?"
"Em-Emily," the little girl stuttered out.
"Can you tell me why you're crying, Emily?" Sarah asked sweetly.
"My daddy said I can't get Princess Bunny back," she said, new tears gathering in her eyes. "She wanted to protect the boat during the Hurricane and he says it's too dangerous." She sniffled while looking at a small boat nearby that was practically drift wood now, and entangled with a destroyed pier and some wires. She assumed the wires was the reason her father deemed it too dangerous.
"Oh so you left her in the boat?," Sarah double checked.
"Mhmm," the girl sniffled.
"Okay, can you tell me what she looks like?" She asked, wanting to help her.
"She has a trunk and blue ears," Emily told her. An elephant named Princess Bunny, Sarah thought with a smile.
"Okay. I'm gonna get her for you," Sarah told her. Emily looked up at her with hopeful eyes.
"Be careful of electricity," she said, jumbling the word electricity.
"Don't worry. I'll be okay," she assured her. She'd already noticed that the wires were unplugged. She stepped out onto the wood, using her foot to check for stability. The little girl started to follow behind her. "It's really dangerous. Stay."
There's no worry of getting electrocuted but, there's plenty of wood to impale yourself on. She tried not to think about that as she balanced herself and continued towards the boat.
"Hey, there's 14,000 bolts in those wires!" An older woman she assumed was Emily's mom yelled from the porch when she saw what Sarah was doing.
Her voice startled Sarah who shrieked when she nearly lost her balance.
"Hey Sarah, be careful!" Topper's voice called out. When did he get here?
"Sarah get down!" She hears her stepmother yell, when she saw what the commotion was about. Rose's disapproval only made Sarah more determined.
"Rose, calm down! I'm an athlete! I got this!" She called back, knowing it would make her mad.
"You're gonna get electrocuted. Get down!" Rose screamed back at her.
Sarah decides to tease them a bit and dances as she balances on a fallen beam, grinning back at them.
"Are you kidding me?!" Rose yells.
"Sarah, that's not funny," her boyfriend calls out, irritated.
"When I tell your dad about this, Sarah.." Rose threatens. Sarah tunes her out as she continues towards the boat. Once she gets to the boat she climbs in and it took only a second to spot the stuffed elephant.
"I see her," she calls to Emily, who is watching with wide eyes. Emily giggled in excitement.
She bends down to grab the elephant, then last minute decides to have little fun.
She grabs a wire and lets out a scream, throwing herself down. Her hair falls in her face and she plays dead.
"Sarah!" She hears Emily cry out and she feels bad about scaring the little girl but then she hears Topper and it's just too good to regret it.
"Sarah! Sarah!" Topper yells out, panic in his voice.
After a moment she turns her head towards him and smiles, waving the unplugged wire in the air.
The look on Topper's face was priceless and she laughs. "It's disconnected!"
Kelce laughed at his friend, who stood there in shock. "Holy shit! She got you!"
Rafe just munched away at some chips, having already suspected it was a ploy of some kind.
She could see Rose storming away.
"Absolute sucker," she teased Topper as she grabbed the elephant and stood up to make her way back to the shore. "Topper you should see your face!"
He was not amused. "Yeah, ok, yeah I'm sorry that I care. Alright, guilty."
"Congrats pussy. You're officially her bitch," Rafe pat him on the back.
Once Sarah got back to shore, she held the elephant up in victory and handed it to a cheering Emily. Finally a win, she thought.
She turned to greet her boyfriend better, but noticed he'd already walked away. She almost felt guilty. Almost, but she had too much fun to feel too bad about it completely. Topper would get over it.
She decided to look for him, and found him talking with her sister, Wheezie. "What's up, Top," she greeted as she approached, ruffling her sister's hair.
"That's not my name," Wheezie mumbled. One of Sarah's fingers got tangled in her Wheezie's hair and accidentally pulled on it when she went to take her hand back. "Ow!"
"No way," Sarah shot back teasingly, then went to kiss her boyfriend. "Hey, I've been looking all over for you."
Topper didn't reply so she pulled him along after her, knowing she'd have to make it up to him. He's being a bit overly dramatic in her opinion. It was just a silly joke.
She sighed, already feeling the high of her win wearing off.
