In a forest of the Duel Academy in the middle of the night, two yellow Ra students stand by a flashlight while one films the other with his Duel Pilot.

"Are you sure it's a good idea to open all the boosters you bought in the day in a forest in the middle of the night?" Asked the student holding the Duel Pilot.

"Yeah don't worry too much tomorrow it's halloween so if we have some good stuff we'll post it for the atmosphere." The other student said as he pulled several boosters out of his jacket and opened one by flicking the cards.

"So for the moment you have good cards?" Asked the student holding the Duel Pilot.

"Nah, we will have more luck with others." The student said with the booster in hand before moving on.

"If you say so. Personally, I don't believe it." Says the student holding the Duel Pilot.

"We'll see." The student said with the booster in his hand before his friend heard a noise in the distance that frightened him.

"What was that?!" Asked the student holding the Duel Pilot, looking in the direction he heard the noise.

"What?" The student asked with the boosters.

"Have not you heard?" Asked the student holding the Duel Pilot with surprise.

"No. Don't worry it must be windy." The student said with the boosters.

"Yeah. Surely." Says the student holding the Duel Pilot, wanting reassurance.

They continue to open the boosters without having anything interesting until the last one where he got both a surprised and puzzled look.

"What? What did you get?" Asked the student holding the Duel Pilot very curious about the card that caused this reaction in his friend.

"That's strange, this card looks powerful, but I've never heard of it. Check it out." Said the boosting student as he showed the card to his friend.

It represented a kind of spider demon, and it was a level 10 monster.

Suddenly, the noise was heard again.

The student holding the Duel Pilot, looked back to where he had first heard the noise as his friend looked behind him and suddenly turned around.

"RUN!" Shouted the student to the boosters before the two began to run.

The Duel pilot cut the recording for a few seconds before continuing to film. But what he was filming was the lifeless body of the student who opened the boosters on the ground with the cards he had just obtained on his body. A man dressed in black enters the frame of the video and picks up the spider demon card lying on the student's face before leaving in the direction that the flashlight, disappearing from the darkness of the night.

One year later

In the Cyber Art dojo, a bald man in a brown jacket wandered in until he saw a hooded person who looked like a young teenager pull a painting off a wall, revealing a hidden compartment containing a black box with a net around it.

"Hey you! What are you doing here?!" Said the man as he ran at the hooded person to prevent him from leaving with the box.

Unfortunately, the hooded person was quicker and took the deck before jumping once he reached the entrance of the dojo, falling from the top of the mountain where the dojo was located.

The man looked up from the entrance of the dojo to see that the hooded person had disappeared.

A week later, it was a special day, the day of the entrance exams to the Duel Academy. A school founded by Seto Kaiba, former Monster Duel champion and CEO of Kaiba Corps dedicated to Monster Duel training.

Duelists from all over the world have come to the school to learn how to be the best.

Currently, one of these duelists, a teenager walked quietly while looking at his phone.

He looked to be about fifteen or sixteen years old, he was rather tall, 5'10" tall, with black hair with a white streak on the side. His eyes were golden. He was wearing casual clothes, a red t-shirt, jeans and simple sneakers. The only thing that stood out on him was a black coat. He was stoic, but not dismissive of his surroundings.

He was so absorbed that he didn't see the other person that he didn't pay attention to the time and had to run to the place where he wanted to go without being more late.

He arrived there quickly enough and entered a large arena, watching the duels taking place below. He crossed his arms, his golden eyes crinkling as he mentally assessed all the duelists here. He found the duels simplistic in the extreme, but one duel stood out from the rest.

The duel with a teenager with a seemingly British accent ended with the boy winning via a trick card making the teenager smile.

"This one has skills." Thought the teenager.

The teenager then saw three boys in the stands wearing blue coats who also watched the duel.

"Wow, this guy is pretty good, huh, Chazz?" Said the boy with blue hair and glasses.

"I guess the rumors about him being a child prodigy were true, huh Chazz?" Said the boy on the other side.

"That doesn't mean anything." Scoffed the person in the middle called Chazz. "We've been going to Duel Preparatory School for the past three years. We are ready for the Academy. These kids don't know what they're getting into. They'll figure out who Chazz Princeton is in no time."

"Chazz Princeton, huh? I better move so I don't have to hear it anymore." The teenager thought.

« Ibuki Kadoya, veuillez vous présenter au champ de duel n°1. Je le répète, Ibuki Kadoya. Champ de duel n°1. » Dit une voix depuis les interphone.

"Ah well, that's good." Ibuki thought to himself as he walked towards the arena.

He then went to another part of the dome, where a boy with light blue hair was standing while another teenager with brown hair was commenting on him the end of the duel.

"Wow, he killed it." He said.

"Yeah, that's Bastion Misawa. They say he had gotten a perfect score on his written exams. Among all the new candidates only he and someone else made it." Said the boy with light blue hair.

"Wow really? I barely passed mine. Oh by the way, my name is Jaden!" Introduced the boy with the black hair.

"My name is Syrus, nice to meet you." Syrus now looked somewhat depressed. "I have a little something where I feel test anxiety. I don't know how I won my duel."

"Then you're in! Congratulations!" Congratulated Jaden as he patted Syrus on the back. "I will be too as soon as I win my duel."

"Wait, you mean you haven't passed the entrance duel yet?" Syrus asked shocked.

"Nah." Jaden replied.

"That could be a problem. There's another duel after Bastion's and this is the last one." Explained Syrus.

"WHAT?!" Jaden exclaimed.

Once in his dueling arena, Ibuki stood before his examiner, a man wearing a blue coat and a pair of sunglasses as well as a Duel Academy dueling disk.

"Are you ready for your entrance exam, kid?" Asked the Examiner.

"Duel!" Said the two duelists as they each drew five cards.

Ibuki: 4000 Life points

Examiner: 4000 Life points

"Since this is your exam, I'll let you get started." Said the examiner.

Without saying anything, Ibuki drew a card and looked at his hand while thinking of a strategy.

"It looks like this exam will be over quickly." Ibuki thought as he looked at his hand.

"I play Power Bond, this card allows me to summon a machine-type fusion monster by sending the monsters used to summon it from my hand or the field to the graveyard. And its attack points will be doubled." Said Ibuki as he placed three cards in his hand at the graveyard. "I use it to merge three Cyber Dragons, to form the Cyber End Dragon." He said as three robotic dragons appeared on the field before lighting up to give way to a larger version of one of them with a pair of wings and some sort of blue crystal on its chest.

Cyber End Dragon (Level 10/ATK 4000-8000/DEF 2800)

"Surprising that he has those cards." Said a blonde haired girl watching the duels from the top of the stands.

"Indeed, but he made a big mistake by applying this strategy during the first round of the duel." Said a young man with blue hair next to her.

"I then place a card face down, and end my turn." Said Ibuki as a face down card appeared in front of him.

Suddenly a wave of energy emanated from the Cyber End Dragon and was directed at Ibuki before he revealed his face down card which had an illustration of a Hitogata protecting a duelist and dealing damage to his opponent.

The wave of energy turned away from Ibuki and hit the examiner instead.

Ibuki: 4000 Life points

Examiner: 0 Life point

"What was that?" Asked the Examiner as the holograms disappeared.

"Power Bond, with the constraint that if the summoned fusion monster is still on the field the turn this card is summoned, its owner takes damage equal to the monster's base attack. But thanks to the Curse Reflection Doll card, the damage I should have taken was given to my opponent." Explained Ibuki surprising the Examiner who then flashed a smile.

"Very well done. Welcome to the Duel Academy." Congratulated the Examiner before Ibuku left the arena.

"Finally it was not a mistake." Said the blonde haired girl.

"Indeed, I've never seen anyone use the Power Link backfire like that." Admitted the young man with blue hair.

Just below them, in the VIP seats reserved for Academy faculty members, the professors watched Ibuki leave the dueling arena.

"Looks like we have a lot of promising duelists this year." Said one of them.

"Yes, we do." Said another teacher.

Right next to them, another teacher was sitting there silently, not paying attention to the speech of the other teachers. He was a man, but he could easily be mistaken for a woman if you didn't know who he was. He was wearing a blue coat similar to Chazz's but had gold epaulets and a pink collar. He also had his blond hair in a ponytail and was wearing makeup. He was Dr. Vellian Crowler, director of the Obelisk Blue dorm.

"Another recruit for the Academy." He thought dismissively. "I'm just glad this is the last duel, otherwise there might be more slackers too."

He was about to get up and leave when...

"I'm sorry to interrupt." Said a man in a black business suit who had just arrived, preventing Crowler from leaving. "But one last candidate has arrived to take his exam, Mr. Crowler."

"Excuse me? Did you just call me 'sir'?" Said Crowler with a frown.

"I'm sorry. I'm new here ma'am..." Apologized the man.

"I have a doctorate in dueling to earn the title "Doctor", thank you!" Said Crowler looking away, offended. "Now, tell the absentee that he'll have to come back next year." He said as the other teachers looked at him as if he had lost his mind.

"Come on, Dr. Crowler, we have time for one more."

"Yes, let's give this duelist a chance."

"He was just a little late, that's all."

Such were the arguments of the other teachers.

"THE DELAY IS RUDE!" Crowler shouted his patience running out. He slammed his hands together, causing the others around him to panic. "I HATE RUDENESS!" He said just before his cell phone rang. He pulled it out of his pocket and answered "WHAT?!"

"This is Sheppard." Said the person on the phone.

"Oh, Chancellor Sheppard, how nice of you to call." Said Crowler, suddenly changing his angry tone to a pleasant one.

"I'm just calling to make sure everything is going well." Declared Chancellor Sheppard. "We wouldn't want a repeat of what happened last year." That made Crowler cringe a little. "When you deleted a third of our student applicants because someone called you 'sir' or 'ma'am'? It doesn't matter, just make sure everyone gets a chance!"

"Yes, f-fine, sir." Said Crowler as he hung up the phone with a frown. "Doesn't this idiot realize that there are enough talentless stooges in this Academy? But hey, he's the boss, and if he wants to give this latecomer a duel... fine." He thought as he rose from his seat. "Excuse me, gentlemen, I'll be right back." He said as he began to walk away.

"But sir, who will be the boy's dueling proctor? And what exam deck should we use?" Asked one of the teachers.

Crowler sighed and walked away.

"I'll take care of that." He said, pulling out a deck from inside his coat with a wicked grin.

Back with Jaden, Syrus and Bastion, they waited for Ibuki to show up.

"Hey man, that was a great duel! Won in the first round, I've never seen that!" Said Jaden with excitement as he ran up to Ibuki.

"Thanks." Said Ibuki. "My name is Ibuki Kadoya."

"Jaden Yuki!" Said Jadent before they shook hands.

"I'm Syrus Truesdale." Introduced Syrus.

"And I am Bastion Misawa, the duelist who preceded you in the duel." Introduced the one whose duel Ibuki could see the end of.

"Nice to meet you." Said Ibuki in return.

"Jaden Yuki, please report to the dueling field n°4. I repeat, Jaden Yuki, to dueling field #4." Said the intercom.

"Great, it's mine!" Said Jaden as he prepared to leave. "Wish me luck, guys."

"Wait! Before you leave, what did you mean by me being the second best duelist and Ibuki being the third best? Who is the first?" Bastion asked.

Jaden pointed his thumb at him.

"You're looking at it!" He smiled. "Duels are what I do best." He said before continuing his walk to the exam room.

"Third best?" Asked Ibuki confused as he looked at Bastion.

"Long story." Bastion replied.

"Jaden is sure of himself." Noticed Syrus.

"He's going to need to be." Said Bastion, pointing to the exam field in question. "Look who he'll be dueling against..."

Bastion, Syrus and Ibuki looked over to see the ponytailed principal.

"Who is he?" Ibuki asked.

"That's Dr. Crowler, he's in charge of exams and also the dormitory director with the top students at the Academy." Replied Bastion.

"Is he a guy?" Said Ibuki slightly surprised.

"Yes. And I heard that last year, he sent back a third of the candidates that they called him 'Sir' or 'Madam'." Bastion explained.

"I have a feeling I'm going to love it..." Said Ibuki in a sarcastic tone.

"It's about to start." Said Syrus, drawing their attention.

On the field, Dr. Crowler was prepared and ready to duel. The dueling disk he was equipped with looked like it was made in his coat. The part that held his graveyard and deck slots was attached to his chest, while the dueling plate looked like it was held like a guitar. In fact, the dueling tray itself almost looked like a rock guitar. Jaden got up from a platform and was on the dueling board.

"Alright, time to test you!" Said Crowler, looking at Jaden. "So, what's your name?"

Jaden stood at attention like a soldier.

"Uh... Jaden, Jaden Yuki." He replied.

"Well 'Uh, Jaden Yuki', I'm Dr. Vellian Crowler, director of the tactical and technical department, and director of the Obelisk Blues at the Duel Academy." Crowler introduced himself.

"Wow." Said Jaden, rubbing the back of his neck with a loud laugh. "A dorm director, I had no idea. From the way you're dressed, I thought you were some kind of Academy mascot."

This comment vexed Crowler, who did his best to remain calm.

"Now that he says it." Said the boy who wore glasses next to Chazz.

"That guy's got some nerve, huh Chazz?" Said 'other boy next to Chazz.

Chazz looked around the arena as if he didn't like what Jaden was telling Dr. Crowler.

"Duel harnesses, ready!" Said Crowler as his dueling disc activated and drew his five cards. Jaden was just marveling at the machinery.

"Hey, that's good stuff, Professor. How do I get one of those?" Jaden asked.

"Oh, a lot of hard work, high grades and dedication." Replied Crowler. "Of course, you have to get in first. And I'll make sure that doesn't happen."

"Well, I'm ready!" Said Jaden as he activated his dueling disk.

"Duel!" Both players shouted as both players drew their starting hands.

Jaden: 4000 Life points

Crowler: 4000 Life points

"I'm starting!" Said Jaden as he drew his sixth card and looked at his hand. "I summon Elemental Hero Avian in defense mode!" He says as a man wearing a green jumpsuit with white feathered wings and bird talons on his left foot and hand appears on the field, kneeling with a card depicting him underneath.

Elemental Hero Avian (Level 3/ATK 1000/DEF 1000)

"Huh... so he's using Elemental Heroes." Ibuki noted. "Those cards are hard to use properly."

"I'm finishing my turn, now it's your turn!" Said Jaden excitedly.

"Perfect." Said Dr. Crowler dismissively as he drew his sixth card.

He then glanced down at his hand.

"After all, since I'm using my own deck of cards and not the test deck, it's my call. I'll have this miserable little brat failed and sent home in no time." He thought. "I think I'll start slow, playing the magic card, Confiscation!"

"Okay, so what does that do?" Jaden asked.

"This card allows me in exchange for 1000 Life points, to take a look at your hand and throw one of your cards into the graveyard." Said Crowler, as his explanation ended, holographic images of Jaden's cards appeared. They were Monster Reborn, The Warrior Returning Alive, Hero Signal and Polymerization.

Crowler: 3000 Life points

Jaden: 4000 Life points

"Ah yes, I remember, I used to use some of these cards when I was a naive beginner. Now, which one should I send to the cemetery?" He asked himself as he looked at each card. "I know, Monster Reborn goes to the graveyard!" He said as Jaden's Monster Reborn card was sent there. "Next, I'm going to put two cards face down." Two reversed cards appeared on the field. "And last, but not least, I'm playing Heavy Storm! This magic card destroys all other magic and trap cards on the field."

A strong wind picked up and Jaden's face-down was destroyed along with Crowler's two face-down cards.

"Oops, did you forget that you also have two cards on the field?" Said Jaden in a teasing tone.

"Now, now, young student, you must not speak out of turn." Said Crowler, wagging his finger. After that, black clouds began to form around his side of the field.

"Hey, what's going on?" Asked Jaden.

"Nothing is going on. Not yet anyway!" Crowler smiled. Two yellow worm-like creatures appeared on his side of the field. "But that's about to change."

Wicked Token (Level 4/ATK 1000/DEF 1000)

The audience was in awe of these two monsters but Syrus was confused, again.

"Can someone tell me what's going on?" He asked.

"Those two trap cards that Dr. Crowler had in the field were called Statue of the Wicked." Explained Bastion as he watched the duel with Syrus. "It's a special trap card that creates a Wicked Token when destroyed by a card effect. That's why he played Heavy Storm."

"This is not a test deck that Crowler uses. Test decks don't have cards like Heavy Storm and Confiscation. Those are rare cards that can change the course of a duel without any serious cost. He's probably using his personal deck." Observed Ibuki with a look of disgust at something as bad as what Crowler probably did. "This guy doesn't want Jaden to enter the Academy."

And they weren't the only ones who had come to the same conclusion, the teenage trio had too.

"Crowler must use his own deck in this duel." Said the boy with glasses.

"Then this duel is over. No one can beat the deck of an expert like Dr. Crowler." Said the other boy.

"I think I'm going to enjoy Crowler beating this kid. I just wish they would treat all the other second-rate duelists applying to this academy the same way." Said the one appearing to be the leader of the trio.

"What an elitist snob." Said the girl. "Bullying someone with his best cards."

"You're too sweet, Alexis." Said the young man with blue hair. "I just hope we get to see the rare legendary card Crowler had hidden in his deck."

"Ready for your next lesson?" Asked Crowler to Jaden.

"You bet I am! I can't remember the last time learning was this much fun!" Said Jaden laughing enthusiastically.

Crowler simply regarded him negatively.

"Yeah, well I'm a good teacher, thanks." He said as his monsters then began to glow and twist in the flames. "And now I sacrifice my two Wicked Tokens to summon the Ancient Gear Golem!"

The vermiform creatures disappeared and a giant robotic monster with apparent gears appeared. The audience members were impressed by the sight of this monster.

Ancient Gear Golem (Level 8/ATK 3000/DEF 3000)

"That's her, that's her legendary card!" Exclaimed Alexis.

"Now it looks like we're going to find out what makes her so legendary." Added the young man with blue hair.

"I hope you're not too scared of my legendary Ancient Gear Golem." Said Crowler sarcastically to Jaden.

"Not at all, I've always wanted to face one!" Said Jaden excitedly. It looked like he had celebrated Christmas and his birthday in one day.

This shocked many people in the arena, including Syrus.

"Either he's really brave or he's crazy, both." Said Ibuki in an amused tone.

"He stares at this rare and legendary monster as if he doesn't have a care in the world." Said the blue-haired young man in disbelief. "I guess youth and inexperience have their advantages after all."

"Let it go, Zane." Said Alexis. "At least the kid's showing some backbone."

"There won't be much to show for it after that." Said Zane.

Dr. Crowler chuckled as he gave his orders.

"Golem attack!" He said.

His Ancient Gear Golem's red eye glowed slightly before withdrawing his fist and tearing Jaden's Avian apart.

"Oh no, Jaden's defense mode monster didn't stand a chance!" Complained Syrus. "His ATK points were way too low. This doesn't look good."

"And it's about to get a lot worse." Added Bastion. "When Ancient Gear Golem attacks a monster in defense mode, the difference between its ATK points and the DEF points of the defending monster is inflicted on the opponent as damage."

"But that would mean Jaden's Life points would take a hit!" Realized Syrus as a transparent version of the Ancient Gear Golem's fist then struck Jaden's body.

Crowler: 3000 Life points

Jaden: 2000 Life points

Crowler noticed that Jaden's body was shaking.

"Don't worry." He scoffed. "This is the best dueling school in the country, some people just aren't..." Said Crowler before stopping as he started to hear Jaden laugh.

"Now I really want to come to this school! You really know your stuff, teacher!" Said Jaden enthusiastically.

This took Crower by surprise before his face frowned and his body shook with anger.

"He didn't take the hint? He won't be allowed to take this exam! And he certainly won't be laughing at my deck!" He thought.

"He's shaking." Thought Jaden as he went to draw a card. "I must really impress him!" But just as he was about to draw his card, he heard a faint cooing sound. He paused for a second before drawing the card and looking at it.

"Winged Kuriboh?" He thought, then remembering that this was the card a guy he had run into had given him.

"Something tells me it belongs to you." Said the person who had given him the card.

"You know, something tells me I'm starting to believe it too." Jaden thought.

Then, whether it was his imagination or not, he noticed that the card was winking at him! He blinked at first to make sure he didn't see anything, but he recovered from his shock and made his decision. I guess this is a sign that I should play with you.

"Okay, I'm summoning Winged Kuriboh in defense mode!" He declared, as a small furry creature with for green legs and a pair of angelic wings appeared above his card image. "Next, I play a face-down. Not bad, eh, professor?"

Winged Kuriboh (Level 1/ATK 300/DEF 200)

"A feathered Kuriboh... That's a pretty rare card you have there, isn't it? Anyway, it's just a weak monster, right? You may have put it in a defensive position, but that won't counter the piercing effect of Ancient Gear Golem! I guess a child monster is made for a kid. It's my turn isn't it?" Said Crowler before his Dueling Harness ejected a card into his right hand. "This is the end... Ancient Gear Golem, use Ultimate Hammer on Winged Kuriboh!" He says.

The Ancient Gear Golem gave a single point hit to Winged Kuriboh that shattered into various pieces as if the Golem had hit a window, but something puzzled Crowler.

"Why aren't your Life Points coming down?" He asked.

"During the turn when Winged Kuriboh is destroyed, the damages I receive becomes 0." Jaden replied, surprising Crowler.

"Who would think there's a map that Crowler doesn't know about?" Said the blonde-haired girl.

"There are places even the professor can't reach. The world of Duel is limitless." Said the young man with blue hair.

"That's why it's so interesting." Added the blonde-haired girl.

"So that's the effect of your trifle?" Said Crowler.

"You're going to pay for calling a friend who protected my life 'A trifle'!" Said Jaden.

"How pretentious! Is there anything wrong with calling your kamikaze card 'A trifle'?" Crowler asked arrogantly.

"Yes. Winged Kuriboh's sacrifice is the signal that will call the monsters in my deck into action! I activate my Trap Card! Hero Signal!" Said Jaden as he revealed his face-up Trap Card which projected a sort of bat signal with an H on the roof of the arena. "From my deck, I'm specifically summoning my second Elemental HERO: Burstinatrix!" Said Jaden as his monster appeared on the field.

She is a woman with gray skin and dark gray hair with a lighter gray bottom and a kind of golden helmet on her head wearing a red leotard.

Elemental HERO Burstinatrix (Level 3/ATK 1200/DEF 800)

"I'm finishing my turn." Said Crowler without much concern for Jaden's monster.

"My turn!" Said Jaden as he drew a card before looking at it. "Winged Kuriboh, I thank you for all your encouragement. Take a good look." He said as he decided on the strategy to adopt. "Next, Avian will use his fighting spirit to return from the Graveyard! I use the Magic card, The Warrior Returning Alive, to bring him back into my hand from the Graveyard, then I summon him!"Says Jaden as he retrieves Avian from the Graveyard and places him directly on his Duel Disk to Burstinatrix's right.

Elemental Hero Avian (Level 3/ATK 1000/DEF 1000)

"What is your fragile comic book hero going to do? He's nothing more than a Normal monster!" Said Crowler carelessly.

"Avian and Burstinatrix... Normal monsters with low attack power is only their temporary appearances. You will be surprised to see their true form. I activate the Magic card, Polymerization! To make them merge." Says Jaden making Crowler flinch as the two Heroes jump to a spiral created by the magic card. "Fusion Summoning! My favorite card: Elemental HERO Flame Wingman!" He said as a man appears on his field with a right arm with a red dragon head, a white wing on the left side and his entire body black with green muscles.

Elemental HERO Flame Wingman (Level 6/ATK 2100/DEF 1200)

"Cool!" Said Syrus.

"Flame Wingman can only be summoned by fusion. It can inflict damage to the opponent equal to the attack of the monsters it destroys." Explained Bastion.

"But it is weaker than the Ancient Gear Golem." Syrus noted.

"Yes, but if he's really number one, he'll find something." Said Bastion.

"Currently, it's number 110..." Corrected Syrus.

"Let me give you a private lesson. Listen. Your worthless ramblings are useless in a Duel! Be sure to remember that. You summoned it, but its attack is only 2100. That's a far cry from my Ancient Gear Golem!" Said Crowler sure he was winning.

"Then I'll teach you something Professor. Heroes have a battlefield all to themselves! The Terrain magic card, Skyscraper!" Says Jaden placing the last card he has in his hand in the terrain magic card area of his Duel Disk.

Suddenly several buildings appear in the dueling arena along with a night sky with Flame Wingman perched on the tip of one of them standing in front of the moon in the direction of Crowler and his monster.

"Well, the field is ready!Go for it, Flame Wingman! Attack the Ancient Gear Golem!" Said Jaden before his monster rushed towards Crowler's.

"This is a joke! Your monster's attack is no match for the Ancient Gear Golem!" Said Crowler on of his advantage.

"A hero always wins! The Skyscraper effect means that if a Hero faces a monster with more attack points than him... His attack will increase by 1000 points!" Explained Jaden.

"Oh no!" Crowler shouted.

"Take that! Sky Scraper Shot!" Jaden shouted as Firebird Man attacked the Ancient Gear Golem.

Elemental HERO Flame Wingman (Level 6/ATK 3100/DEF 1200)

As Flame Wingman collided with the Ancient Gear Golem a huge explosion occurred as all the spectators of the duel had a surprised expression on their faces. As Crowler panicked that his precious monster had been defeated.

"Flame Wingman's effect causes you to take damage equal to your monster's attack, Professor." Explained Jaden.

Crowler froze as he heard this, not realizing that his Ancient Gear Golem, which was still standing, collapsed on him.

Crowler: 0 Life point

"Gotcha! That was a fun Duel, Professor!" Says Jaden excitedly as all the holograms on the field disappear.

"How? How could that scum beat me...?" Says Crowler as he looks at Jaden angrily.

"That was a good duel." Ibuki thought as he turned his gaze in Jaden's direction. "I like that one."

From the stands, Alexis and Zane were watching Ibuki and Jaden with interest.

"They're pretty interesting, aren't they?" Asked Alexis, causing Zane to nod and leave without a word.

At the same time Jaden took out his Winged Kuriboh card and looked at it as if he was looking at a friend.

"I'm counting on you from now on, partner." He said as the card answered him with a friendly wink.

30 minutes later, Ibuki's name finally appeared and he entered the office, where Crowler and the other examiners were waiting.

"Mr. Kadoya." He began, struggling to remain professional, his ego having taken a hit after his loss to Jaden. "After reviewing your performance on both the written and practical exams, Chancellor Sheppard has decided to grant you a high honor."

"And what honor is that?" Ibuki asked.

Crowler was very clearly having trouble keeping his cool.

"Despite the fact that you have never attended Duel Preparatory School, and the fact that this appointment goes against every one of the sacred traditions of the Duel Academy, the Chancellor has decided that you should be placed in the Obelisk Blue dorm. Congratulations, we are all... very... very... happy for you!" He finished with an extremely fake smile through his clenched teeth.

Crowler was very unhappy that Sheppard would allow a random person into the ranks of his precious Obelisk Blues, but his desire to keep his job was stronger than his wounded pride... barely. Besides, having a delinquent in his dorm could come in handy. If his success wasn't a fluke, he could ask the white-haired teen to take him to even greater heights of prestige. He would also have the opportunity to make him a dueling prodigy, which could lead to other talented duelists joining the academy!

The examiners and their superior were waiting for Ibuki's answer. Maybe he would jump for joy at being placed in the best dorm on campus...

"I thank you. I will not disappoint Chancellor Sheppard, for the honor he has given me." Said Ibuki with some distrust.

And with that, he left, leaving behind a group of adults quite impressed by the boy's suspicion. Is it so suspicious that he enters the Obelisk Blue?
