Okay this is my first fan fiction ever, so be kind. :) Hopefully in later chapters Serene will meet an interesting "friend", also known as Severus Snape…
Serene walked through the halls of Hogwarts feeling extremely lonely. She had just left the comfort and familiarity of her home to begin substituting for Professor Sprout, who had had an unfortunate encounter with a Venomous Tentacula. None of the students seemed to warm to her. In fact, today she had found a note lying on the floor from Timothy Pullings; who had written a very rude remark about her to a fellow classmate.
"Stop dwelling, Serene…" she told herself.
She continued to walk down the hall and out of a stone archway leading to the Quidditch Pitch. Walking across the field, Serene let her mind wander. How incredible that she had gotten the job when so many older and more experienced teachers had applied. Serene smiled to herself.
"And I had never thought I'd get this far." She mused happily as a gentle breeze blew a few loose strands of her hair. She unconsciously pulled the chestnut strands back into a neat bun.
Suddenly her heart sank again when a sudden thought came to her. Why had none of the other teachers seemed to like her? Minerva McGonagall was polite, but that was all she was. Perhaps she thought Serene too young to be an efficient teacher. Trelawney and Firenze were kind enough. Severus Snape barely even looked at her. Flitwick was the exception, and seemed genuinely glad she was there. Serene slowly sighed and then sat on a nearby bench. Serene cried out and shot up off the bench clutching her behind. She grumbled and looked down at the center of the bench, which was filled with a large puddle. Without bothering to return her robes to the previous state, she looked around for a drier seat. Before finding a new bench, Serene heard the chiming of the clock and headed towards the school. It was time for supper and she hadn't even changed her robes. Serene reached the stone hallway near the back door and began to run. Once inside the building she slowed down to a gentle jog.
"Oh, dear looks like someone's late for dinner." A nearby painting of a heavy woman remarked to herself. "And it's only her first week here." Serene thought she heard the painting tut.
