Elena said that she would go to the grill so they could talk alone. Caroline stood up and turned so that she didn't face the door when she heard the sound of the voice she though she was never gonna hear again.

"Caroline?"

Slowly, she turned to face him, the man she married three years ago, who she promised to love forever.

"Stefan?" Caroline asked in fragile voice.

"Yeah, it's me Care!" he said and started to walk towards her and she did the same, although she could feel her legs shaking underneath.

When they met in the middle, she gave him a tight hug, like she was half expecting him to go poof in the air.

When Stefan broke the hug, he smiled at her and then kissed her on the lips, a kiss which she returned at first.

But then she remembered Klaus and her wedding day the next day and she broke the kiss and took a step back from him.

"I'm so confused," she said, when she walked to the fireplace and stood with back turned to him.

Stefan walked to her, laid his hands gently on her shoulders and turned her so she could face him.

"Caroline, it's OK to be confused. I am too. One moment I'm doing shots with Lexi in heaven, the next I'm down to earth, naked in some womens' attic with Elena and strange women."

"So you were with Lexi all this time and in heaven?"

"Yes. No. With different people, but with Lex too, yeah." Stefan smiled at the thought of his best friend.

"Must have been nice," she simply said and took a few steps away from him.

"It was, but I never, ever forgot about you. I felt like I was with you all that time. I knew you were happy and content and that all I really cared about. "

"Stefan-"

"I still love you Caroline! And now that I'm back, could you maybe consider-"

"I'm engaged to Klaus, Stefan" Caroline simply said.

For a moment Stefan was taken aback.

"What? When? How?"

"You're surprised? I thought you saw everything from up there? Or were you too busy having drinks with your drinking buddy?"

"It's not how this heaven thing actually works. I was happy knowing you were happy, but I didn't know the specifics. My god, Caroline. Klaus? Really?"

"Yes, Stefan, I am marrying Klaus, tomorrow, actually. What was I suppose to do? Mourn you forever?"

"Tomorrow, you are marrying Klaus, tomorrow?" Stefan was shocked to hear that, " Is it the kind of engagement you had with Alaric?"

"No, it's the real kind" she said quietly.

Stefan was so angry by all of it, he lashed out by throwing things off the table that was near him at the moment. Which scared Caroline alittle

The room went silent and the air was thick with tension when Caroline's daughters came running to her.

"Mom, Are you coming to breakfast, soon?" asked Josie impatiently.

Lizzie turned towards Stefan and asked: "Aren't you suppose to be dead, Uncle Stefan?"

"I was, I guess I should get back to being dead" and he took off, leaving Caroline hurt and confused.
