Caroline was sitting in the living room by the fireplace, when Elena and Damon came home, dragging Stefan and Bonnie with them.

"Go talk things out with her," Elena whispered to Stefan and then she, Bonnie and Damon excused themselves, going to bed.

"I'm a little surprised that you came back with how we left things earlier," Caroline said with a soft voice.

"Well, I didn't have anywhere to go, Caroline. This was my home the last time I was alive" Stefan simply answered.

Caroline could only nod.

Few minutes of silence passed as Stefan poured himself another drink and Caroline stood up and walked a bit closer to him and faced him.

"Stefan, don't think that I am not happy that you came back to me alive. I am so, so happy," Caroline smiled.

"But?"

"But your timing sucks," said Caroline and walked away from him towards the fireplace.

"Do you love him?" Stefan just blurted out.

Now Caroline turned to face him and looked him in the eye when she simply answered "Yes".

Now it was Stefan's time to walk toward her, saying: "Do you remember the last thing you said to me? When you left me a voice message that day?"

Now trapped between the fireplace and Stefan, she whispered: "That I would love you forever. And I did, I do love you, but it's complicated."

"What's complicated?" Stefan insisted.

"Stefan, you know that I have feelings for Klaus, you've always known that ever since I first slept with him, maybe even before that."

Now it was Stefan's time to turn his back toward her as he walked away from her, clearly frustrated.

"And you can't just expect me to drop everything just because you came back to the world of the living," Caroline said a little louder than she intended," You are the one that went on a suicide mission not caring what I thought of that great plan".

"You said that you understood," now it was Stefan's time to raise his voice.

"What more could I say, you made your decision. I didn't want you to die knowing that I was angry with you."

Then Caroline continued with a softer voice, "Look I don't want to fight about ancient history. You're back with us and that's all that matters. Now we have to figure out what to do next".

Now Stefan also calmed down, walked to her and grabbed her to kiss her. This time Caroline didn't hold back and pulled him closer to deepen the kiss. Things heated up pretty quickly between them as Caroline felt him touching her everywhere and it felt so good. But when he started to undress her, she quickly grabbed his hands, stopping him cold and breaking the kiss at the same time.

"Stefan, we can't do this, I can't do this. Don't think that I don't want to. I do. It's just that I can't do that to Klaus. Not before I have talked things out with him. You understand right?"

It was very hard for Stefan to hear Caroline care so much for Klaus' feelings but he didn't want to say the wrong thing so he just nodded and said that he was going to sleep.

"Ok, your old room is still vacant, so you can go there."

"Ok, good night"

"Good night"

In the morning it was Elena and Damon who woke up the earliest and they were having breakfast together when Stefan came in.

Stefan to Damon "Are you having a hangover just as bad as I do?"

"Worse."

"So how did the conversation with Caroline go last night. Did you two actually make up?"

"We are not fighting, Elena. And no, we are not back together."

"Why not?"

"Yes, why not, brother, what are you waiting for, make your move already." Damon interrupted.

"Damon, please!" Elena pleaded.

"Ok, I am going to wake the munchkins, you two continue"

When Damon had left, Stefan finally answered Elena. "I made my move and although she seemed into it, she finally didn't want to sleep with me, cause she doesn't want to hurt Klaus"

"Oh, that makes sense, but I'm worried about the hold Klaus has on her. I mean it's you Stefan. Do you know how long she mourned you? For two years, before giving in to Klaus and accepting his marriage proposal."

"I don't know what to say, it is what it is." And then Stefan excused himself to do some physical training. Just as he had left, Caroline came to the kitchen to get some coffee.

"Hey, Elena, sleep well?"

"Yeah, but that's not what I want to talk to you about."

"Oh, okay, let's hear it?" Caroline said and sat at the table to face her best friend.

"Caroline, why do you keep blowing off Stefan?" Elena simply asked.

"I am not blowing anybody off. It's just so very complicated, Elena. I have feelings for Klaus, I have feelings for Stefan. I am so confused and I was suppose to marry Klaus today."

Elena sighed, hearing Caroline say exactly the same thing to her that she said to Stefan.

"Caroline, you have to listen to your heart. Who do you love more? If you don't choose now, it's gonna be so much harder later. No matter what you decide, one of them gets hurt. You just have to choose and live with the consequences."

"Caroline nodded in understanding, " You're right, Elena. I think I know what I have to do. I have to go out but thanks for the heart to heart"

And then she was off.

So, who do you think is going to be left heart broken? I wanted to write this story because I wanted to see what would happen If Caroline had to choose between Klaus and Stefan. Stefan never had any competition for Caroline's heart with anybody on the show. I liked Klaus and Caroline too, so I thought he was the second biggest love for her in the end. It's a Steroline story, let's just see how they end up together and see if it's a pumpy ride.
