A Song of Ice, Fire & the Dead

Chapter 2: Escape from the Dead
Making their way through the hallways of the school, they heard a scream. Running down the stairs, Aegon saw a group of survivors surrounded by Them. One of the survivors was about to be bitten. Kohta reacted quickly by firing a shot from his nailgun and hitting the undead in the centre of its forehead, killing it instantly. Saeko leapt down the stairs into the group of Them, swinging her bokken and crushing Their skulls in quick clean movements. Aegon and Takashi took out the ones in front of them and Rei helped as well. Kohta stayed with Saya and Shizuka, taking careful shots with his nailgun. Soon the stairway was cleared of the zombie contingent.
One of the survivors, a girl made to say thank you when Saeko cut her off, but not unkindly. "Not so loud. Are any of you bitten?" she asked.
The survivors all shook their heads and said no. Aegon carefully looked at the bodies of the survivors and saw they were telling the truth. There was no evidence of bite marks on them.
"They're fine. They haven't been bitten," Aegon said to Saeko who nodded her thanks. Takashi then spoke to the survivors.
"Wanna come with us? We're getting out of here," he said to them, and they quickly agreed to come with them.
Aegon then scouted ahead while both groups talked. Reaching the reception area, Aegon looked out from the doors into the parking lot and he suppressed a groan of frustration when he saw a large number of Them. He counted but stopped when he realised there were too many to count all at once. The group soon joined Aegon. Takashi's jaw dropped when he saw how many of Them there were.
"Holy shit…"
"Yeah, too many of Them to fight," Aegon said grimly as they hid in the reception area. Saya then chose this moment to speak.
"What's the point of hiding here? They use their ears, not their eyes!" she stated.
"Then why don't you prove that for us, Takagi?" Takashi snipped at her.
"Even if we remain in the school as we are, we'll be unable to move if we're attacked," Saeko pointed out. Looking to the horde of Them, she said, "We need someone to test out Takagi's theory, but it'll be very dangerous."
Without a word, Aegon began walking down the stairs before anyone could stop him.
"Aegon! Get back here!" Takashi hissed at the older boy who looked back at him and waved his hands as of a way of saying "Stay there." Ignoring any more attempts to bring him back, Aegon slowly crept his way towards the group of undead. Slowly, he moved, one step at a time. Aegon's heart froze as one of Them approached him; gripping his sword tightly, Aegon readied himself for a fight, but the undead just simply moved past him. Suppressing the urge to sigh in relief, Aegon found a bloodied and torn up shoe. Picking it and hefting it, Aegon threw it hard at some nearby school lockers. The rattling clang drew the attentions of Them and They surged towards the lockers, clearing the way for the group. Aegon gave a thumbs-up to the group who made their way out.
"You had some balls," Takashi whispered to Aegon who nodded and wiped his brow clear of sweat and replied, "Forgive me if I don't feel like doing that again."
Then one of the survivors who was holding a metal pole in his hands accidentally clanged his pole against the metal railing of the stairs. The sound echoed throughout the school.
"You fool!" Aegon cursed the boy who had a panicked look in his eyes.
"Run!" Takashi shouted.
"You idiots! Why did you yell?!" Takagi shrieked. "We could've made it past them!"
"No way! Did you hear that echo?" Takashi shouted at her.
Two of Them stepped in front of Aegon who slashed the heard of the closest one near him off and spun around to deliver a kick to the other knocking it to the ground before he stabbed his sword into its brain, Pulling his sword free and flicking the blood of it, Aegon looked to see more of Them approaching. Aegon gritted his teeth and held Blackfyre ready when a hand on his shoulder made him turn and see Takashi.
"There's too many! Just run!" the younger boy said to Aegon who reluctantly nodded. The group then ran for the parking lot. Aegon spearheaded the group with Saeko and Takashi on either side of him. Shizuka, Saya and Kohta were in the middle behind them and Rei was guarding the rear with the other group of survivors following after them. But then one of the survivors, a boy tripped over and was immediately surrounded by Them. The boy in vain tried to fight them off but was bitten and torn apart by the undead creatures.
One of the survivors, a girl, stopped and yelled, "Takazo!" she screamed in panic. She made to run towards Takazo but Saya latched onto her arm and tried to pull her back.
"Forget him! There's no point saving him if he's already bitten!" Saya said to the girl.
"Aarrgh! Naomi, run!" Takazo screamed. But Naomi didn't heed the warning and ran straight towards Takazo. Aegon could only guess they were lovers.
"Why? I told her it was useless!" Saya said in disbelief. "Why is she going back for him?" she added.
"Love is a strange thing, it doesn't follow the rules we want to set," Aegon said to the pink-haired girl.
"With the world gone to hell, I'd rather die with someone I love," Shizuka said sadly. Saya looked at the nurse and made to make a scathing comment when Kohta suddenly fired his nailgun and killed one of Them that was creeping up on Saya. Saya looked at Kohta and yelled at him, "You filthy nerd! What gave you the right to interrupt?!"
"Well, I don't know!" Kohta spluttered and Saya blushed and muttered something under her breath. Aegon chose not to comment, that he could as he was busy clearing the zombie contingent near the mini-busses with Saeko helping him.
"Miss Shizuka! The key!" Takashi yelled as he slammed his baseball bat into the head of an undead. Shizuka fumbled with the key but managed to open a mini-bus. Almost everyone climbed onto the bus, but Aegon stayed outside, making sure everyone got on board.
"Get inside! I'll cover you all!" he shouted as he slashed his sword through one of Them. Saeko joined him and said, "Allow me to assist you!"
Aegon smiled at Saeko who smiled back. Both them seemed to acknowledge each other as fellow warriors and they went at it, killing the undead wretches that tried to encroach on the bus. Shizuka turned the key and the engines started up with a rumble and roar.
"Saeko! Aegon! Get in!" Takashi yelled. The two then climbed into the bus when a loud yell alerted them.
"Save us!"
Aegon looked out and saw a group of students and a teacher. He didn't know the students, but the teacher he recognised as Koichi Shido. While Aegon didn't interact with the teachers very much, the one meeting he had with Shido was enough to make his skin crawl. The look in Shido's eyes screamed nothing but evil to Aegon and at this moment, he was sorely tempted to leave Shido here to his grisly fate.
"Who's that?" Takashi asked as he looked at the group of survivors running towards them.
"That's Mr Shido, he teaches Class 3-A," Saeko informed him.
"We're ready to go!" Shizuka shouted from the driver's seat.
"Hold on!" Takashi said to her.
"They're swarming in front! I can't drive if there are some many of them bunched up!" Shizuka shouted fearfully.
"So run them over!" Takashi told her.
"If I do that, we might roll over!" Saya argued.
"Make a decision! We can't stay here forever!" Aegon stated as he slashed his sword into one of Them that came near the bus. Takashi made to leave the bus and help the survivors when Rei held him back.
"Don't save him!" she said to Takashi.
"What? Why?" Takashi asked her.
"We don't need to save him! We should leave him here!" Rei replied.
Aegon watched as Shido directed the survivors onto the bus when one of the survivors tripped and grasped at Shido's ankle.
"Mr Shido! My ankle!" the boy pleaded.
Aegon then saw a sick smile spread across Shido's face as he said, "Then it's the end for you." Raising his foot and kicked the boy in the face and walked away with that sick mile long smile on his face as the boy was promptly pounced on by Them and torn apart. Aegon felt his blood run cold and he gripped his sword tightly, ready to raise it against Shido for leaving an innocent boy to die. Just as Aegon was about to bar Shido from getting on, the man was already on the bus. Takashi yelled for Shizuka to drive and the nurse put the bus into gear and pressed her foot to the pedal. With a roar, the bus surged forward towards the gate.
Aegon then heard Shizuka mumble under her breath, getting louder as she said it.
"They're not human anymore!" she said like it was a mantra as she drove through the groups of Them.
With a crash and scream of metal, the bus broke through the school gates and turned onto the road, nearly rolling as it did. But thankfully the bus managed to say upright and roared down the road.
…
Aegon sat heavily in one of the seats at the front of the bus and looked out the window. Saeko sat beside Aegon and cleaned her blood stained bokken with a rag. Aegon took this moment to clean his sword too, eyeing the slowly drying gore on it with distaste.
"So, you never said how you got a sword like that," Saeko said conversationally.
"Depends if you'd believe me or not," Aegon replied as he wiped off some gore with a rag he pulled from his work-belt.
"Considering what we've just been through? I'd say I'm more than willing to go on a little faith here," Saeko remarked.
"Well, would you believe I'm from another world?" Aegon said to her looking at her seriously. Saeko looked deep into Aegon's eyes and she scrutinised him carefully.
"Hmmm, were it anyone else, I'd say that was a lie," she said after a moment. "But considering what I know of you and how you act, I think you're telling the truth," she added.
"Glad you believe me, although I fear you may be the only one," Aegon said. Takashi walked over to them.
"Looks like we made it," he said.
"Barely," Aegon grunted. He still thought about that moment Shido left an innocent boy to die.
Kohta leaned over the seat and said, "That was way too close!"
Shido then chose this moment to walk over to them. "Thank you for saving us," he said and he looked at Saeko. "Are you the leader, Miss Busujima?" he asked her.
"No. We do not have a leader, nor did we need one," replied Saeko formally. "We survived because we worked together and everyone knew their role," she said.
"Well, that's no good. A leader is needed if we are to survive. One manages everything," Shido said pompously with a gleam in his eye that set Aegon on edge.
Rei then chose this moment to speak to Aegon and Takashi. "You two are going to regret saving him!" she hissed.
"I already am," Aegon said to her coldly.
Then on the survivors shouted, "The city!"
Aegon looked out the window and was shocked by what he saw. Buildings were burning, cars were piled up and bodies and blood littered the streets. And that was only in the distance.
"Gods be good!" Aegon muttered to himself.
"We're never gonna make it if we going!" one of the survivors, a boy with blonde hair on top and brown hair on the sides. Aegon recognised the boy as one of the bullies who tormented Kohta. "Why do we have to do whatever you guys do?" he demanded.
"We saved your lives. The least you could do is thank us for it," Aegon told the boy.
"You all decided to go back to the city without asking any of us!" the boy yelled angrily. "We could've just looked for a safe place to hide inside the school!" he said.
Then one of the other survivors shouted in agreement. "He's right. We should find a safe place to hide! Like that convenience store we just passed!" Then the bus came to a screeching halt as Shizuka slammed on the brakes and put on the parking brake.
"I've had it! I can't drive with all of you yelling!" the blonde nurse shouted angrily.
"What the hell?" asked the blonde haired boy.
"Then what do you want to do?" Saeko asked calmly and mockingly at the same time.
The boy looked at Saeko, stunned at being asked his opinion. He then looked at Takashi, pointing at him saying, "I can't stand this guy!" he shouted.
"Me? What did I do to you?" Takashi asked him perplexed. Kohta made to raise his nailgun but Saya laid a hand on his arm shaking her head, silently telling him not to get involved.
"You!" the boy growled making a move towards Takashi. But Aegon stepped in between them and slammed his fist into the boy's stomach, making him double over in pain and wheeze. Aegon then delivered a kick to the back of the boy's knee, driving him to the floor before pressing the edge of his sword to the back of the boy's neck. The colour drained from the boy's face as he felt the sharp edge of Valyrian steel kiss his neck.
"Are you going to behave? Or do we have a problem?" Aegon asked the boy coldly. The boy nervously shook his head in response and Aegon moved his sword away from the boy's neck and said to him, "Sit down and be quiet for the rest of the trip," he told him.
Shido then clapped his hands and spoke. "Splendid work, Aegon and Komuro. But this only proves my point," he said. "We really do need a leader. Do you understand?" he asked them with that sick smile on his face.
Aegon made to raise his sword into Shido's face when Saeko grasped his wrist shaking her head at him.
"And there's only one person who can do that job, right?" Saya said sarcastically to Shido.
"Well Takagi, since I'm a teacher and most of you are students, that alone should say who is more qualified," Shido said condescendingly.
"Oh, really? Would a qualified leader kick an innocent boy in the face and leave him to die when there was plenty of time to save him?" Aegon asked coldly earning a glare from Shido.
"Well, Mr Aegon, I do regret sacrificing that poor boy's life, but I did it to save everyone else's lives," Shido said defensively. "I couldn't stand against a group of Them alone, it would've been suicide!" he added.
"Horseshit! It was only you and me out there, and you walked away from that poor boy while he was being torn apart. With a fucking smile on your face! And there was only a few of Them not an entire group," Aegon retorted. "You could've easily helped that boy, but you chose to walk away like the coward you are!" he said.
"Well, if I was the leader, I wouldn't let such things happen," Shido declared pompously and a few of the other survivors applauded. Shido bowed to them and said, "Well, that's that. I'm leader by majority vote," he said smugly.
Aegon growled and made to swing his sword at Shido's head. Saeko stopped and said to him, "I know you want to end that piece of filth's life. I want too as well, but we can't right now!" she whispered to him.
"Ploughing whoreson! First chance I get I'll take his fucking head off!" Aegon snarled.
Rei suddenly stood up and opened the door and got off the bus. "Rei?!" Takashi yelled getting off after her.
"Screw this! There's no way I'm staying here with that creep!" Rei screamed. Aegon stood at the door of the bus while Takashi tried to convince Rei to stay on the bus. As much as Aegon hated the idea of being in the same place as Shido, he had to abide it for now. Shido then chose this moment to speak.
"If you're saying we can't get along, then we'll just have to split," he said with a twisted smile. Aegon glared angrily at the slimeball.
"What's that supposed to mean?!" Takashi yelled at Shido before he jumped out and grabbed Rei's hand talking to her urgently. As the pair of them argued, Aegon was alerted by the sound of car or bus horn beeping loudly. Looking to where the sound had come from, Aegon's heart stopped dead when he saw a bus barrelling down the road, filled with Them.
"Rei! Takashi! Get out of the way!" Aegon shouted at the arguing couple. The pair looked to see the bus barrelling towards them and they barely managed to get out of the way in time as the bus hit a car then flipped over. The gas line of the burst open and the gasoline was ignited setting the vehicle on fire. Aegon looked out to see where Rei and Takashi were and saw them
"Are you both alright?!" he yelled to them.
"We're fine!" Takashi shouted back. "We'll meet you at the East Police Station!" he then yelled.
"What time?!" Aegon hollered.
"7pm! If it doesn't work out today, we'll try tomorrow!" Takashi shouted.
"Go! Before the bus explodes!" Aegon roared and Takashi and Rei then fled. Aegon quickly got back on the bus and yelled for Shizuka to start driving. Shizuka put the bus back into gear and the vehicle hurtled along the road.
Aegon sat back in his seat and wiped his brow clear of sweat. Saeko sat beside him and asked, "Are you alright?" She looked concerned.
"It's… been an unusual day," Aegon said tiredly. "Let's hope Takashi and Rei will be alright," he added.
"They will be. I'm sure of it," Saeko said. "And I hope you will be fine in due time," she added with a soft smile at Aegon.
"Worried for me, Lady Saeko?" Aegon asked her with a teasing smile.
"I am. But I am worried for Rei and Takashi, and everyone else here," Saeko replied then she suddenly yawned slightly. "Hmm, sorry. Been a tiring day," she said sheepishly.
"Get some rest," Aegon advised her. "Might be a while before we get another chance to rest," he warned. "I'll keep a lookout," he then said.
"Heh, my brave knight, keeping watch over his lady," Saeko teased which made Aegon smile slightly before she settled her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes. Aegon smiled softly and looked out the window. Shido was busy making some stupid sermon to his little group of followers, but Aegon tuned him out and he wanted to stay awake in case that piece of filth tried anything.
Aegon looked out across the city watching the burning buildings and the hordes of Them wandering around, attacking and eating the living.
He never expected to come to a world that was seemingly doomed. How he wished he was back home aboard the Shy Maid with Lord Jon, Duck, Haldon and Septa Lemore. But it was how it was, and nothing could change that. All Aegon could hope for was that somehow he got out of this mess alive. Looking at Saeko who was now snoring softly, her mouth slightly agape, Aegon gently adjusted Saeko's form so that she was curled up next to him. Although he hadn't known Saeko for very long, he felt a kinship with her and silently promised that he would everything in his power to look after her and Kohta, Shizuka, Saya, Rei and Takashi.

TO BE CONTINUED…
A/N: There, the second chapter of this crossover done and dusted! I hope everyone enjoyed it, and hopefully the next chapter will be out soon, but I've got a couple of other projects lined up and some stories that need updating as well. One of those projects is a Fable/Game of Thrones crossover of Aegon in the Fable universe and I've set up a romance poll for that on my profile, so if you haven't already, feel free to leave your votes. Another project that's banging around in my head is a Resident Evil/Highschool of the Dead crossover that uses Carlos Olivera from RE3 as the main character since he wasn't seen in any other RE games beside 3 and I kinda like his character.
Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well with the Corona Virus going around, and with quarantine being held in a lot of countries. On one hand I'm kinda pissed off because I'm for the time being out of work and unable to go to school, but on the other hand I've been update a lot of my stories which I'm sure a few of you are grateful for. But I'd really like this Corona Virus to just go away and things to go back to normal.
But apart from that, I haven't got much else to say. So I'll just leave this here and I'll see you all in the next one.
Be kind to one another,
Angry lil' elf.
