"Fatherhood at last!"
(Colorado, Hospital)
Stacey Grayson smiled weakly at John. He returned the smile and kissed her. The nurses prepared Stacey for the final push. John, in scrubs, held on the Stacey's hand fiercely.
"You're doing great, Stace," John told her.
"Okay, Stacey, were gonna need you to push one big push," the doctor instructed.
Stacey sighed heavily.
"You can do it," John told her, kissing her hand.
"Okay, push!"
Stacey collected all of her remaining energy and pushed.
"One more. One more push!"
Stacey grumbled. That's what she said before, she thought. Stacey pushed once more, hoping it would be the last.
Finally, there was a loud cry. Stacey relaxed back into the bed, catching her breathe. John kissed Stacey and wrapped his arms around her.
"Congratulations! It's a girl!" the doctor announced. "Captain Sheppard, would you do the honors?"
John steadily cut the cord. The doctor passed the baby girl to the nurses to clean her and weigh her. John turned his attention back to his wife.
"You are amazing," he said to her.
Stacey only had enough energy to smile broadly back at him.
(Hospital, Maternity Ward)
Stacey settled down in the clean bed. John helped move her and the baby girl into the room. Stacey held the baby in her arms, smiling down on her.
"What should we name her?" Stacey asked. "After spending all that time obsessing over keeping her healthy, we didn't even think on a name."
"Anything pops up?" he asked her.
She looked down at the sleeping newborn and made a face. Stacey looked up at John and shook her head.
"You try," Stacey handed the baby girl to John.
He awkwardly took her. For the very first time John held his daughter carefully in his arms. He looked down at her porcelain face. She had his black hair, he could see from what little hair she had. Her cheeks were round and rosy. The babies gummy mouth formed a grin. She was having a rather nice dream at the moment.
John took a rough, battle hardened finger and caressed the baby girl's soft a pudgy cheeks. The newborn yawned and went back to sleep.
She is so beautiful, he thought. All those nights worrying about her. The worrying would, of course, worsen. Being a parent, you just cannot worry over your kids. John pushed the worrying a side for now. There would be plenty of time for that later.
He loved this girl. Fatherhood suited him just fine. John had always felt a small missing piece of his heart. That night, in that very moment of birth, this little baby had filled it. He was finally complete. John kissed her lightly on her forehead and cheeks.
"Well?" His wife asked. Her voice sounded as though it drifted over from a long ways away. "John!"
John finally looked up, for she had shouted loud enough to get him back to reality.
"Sorry, Honey," he said.
"Thought up a name? Or are we going to have to call my parents?" she asked him.
"I think I might have one. My dad won't like it much, though," he told her, handing the baby back, for it was time to feed her breakfast.
"Your dad won't like the fact that the babies a girl and I really don't care what he thinks anyways. So spill!" Stacey told him.
"Well, I was thinking, that, maybe we could name her Allison. After your mother," John told her.
Stacey looked down at the newborn as she breastfed. She nodded and started to tear up.
"I love you," she said softly.
John smiled and kissed her very deeply.
"I love you, too,"
End!
