Ginny's first stop had been the French carriage, she didn't get any information there so she chose to roam the grounds. It would help clear her mind and maybe she'd come across the French girl she needed to speak to. By the lake she stopped, she could hear people screaming, squealing…She followed the voices to know what in merlin name was happening, as she reached a small glade. She twisted to the side and managed to avoid getting hit by a snowball. She ran and hid behind a tree. She heard Fred's voice "Finally! We could use the help Ginny!"
She looked around and located what appeared to be different teams. The boys from her family seemed to compose one all by themselves.
Next, she spotted Harry with Seamus, Neville and Dean.
She raised an eyebrow as she saw Luna sitting in a tree reading a book upside down. In her soft mellow voice, she told her without looking from her book. "They needed an impartial referee."
"I take it back! You're not impartial! You favor the girls." Exclaimed Seamus as he poked his head out from behind the snow wall he was hiding behind. He even pointed at the said group.
There they were. Hermione and Laetitia were making snowballs as fast as they could and were putting them down. Ginny frowned, not understanding the strategy, until Fleur moved her fingers then raised her hands, the snowballs were floating, then she threw them faster than anyone could the muggle way.
"We said no magic!" Exclaimed Ron, not showing himself after he saw Seamus get targeted by all the girls' snowballs.
"Technically we said no wands!" Was Hermione response.
"Do you really want to argue with Hermione about rules?" Asked Harry while he was still helping Seamus recover.
The Gryffindor in question raised her head, glaring. "What is that supposed to mean?"
"Rules are meant to be broken!" Scream Fred as he jumped out from his hiding place, shoulder to shoulder with his twin, wands raised. They swirled it in tandem, raising snow from the ground, creating an over 7 feet high snowman.
Neville jumped up next, creating a giant Lion, Dean added a small squirrel on it. The other boys in his team gave him a look. "What? I like squirrels."
Seamus rolled his eyes while Fleur pulled out her wand, this time a snow woman appeared. Her best friend added a little something too.
Hermione groaned right before her girlfriend exclaimed "Laetitia!"
The raven-haired woman pointed at the red headed team. "They gave theirs extra big muscles, I thought it would fit that ours would get extra big boobs."
Ginny could have sworn she had heard Luna sing a strange sentence "Do you want to build a snowman?" but she didn't seem to have moved at all.
"You are such a guy." Commented Hermione.
"You are so imbued by our society's toxic ideologies. Stop being stupid. Girls can like big boobs too."
Hermione's mouth dropped opened, her brain froze, one of the worst insults one could ever address her, calling her stupid.
"Focus!" Scolded Fleur "We have a squirrel problem."
The girls turned back to what had turned into some kind of snow avatar fight. Their snowwoman was trying to get the squirrel out of her hair while the lion had the snowman's hip between his teeth, paws and claws on its legs.
They were all starting to yell and gesticulate, she saw Hermione pull out her wand, and she had her game face on. Ginny rolled her eyes as she stepped in, pulling out her own wand. "Reducto!"
All the creatures exploded, throwing snow all over the place, some of it falling slowly after the blast. After a good minute it was clear, they were all more or less covered in snow as Ginny stepped into the glade, not a snow fleck on her. "This was just getting ridiculous."
"Doesn't she just look like mom when she is like that?" Whispered Ron to his brothers, who merely nodded, that was scary.
Fleur hit Laetitia in the stomach with the back of her hand, just had enough. "What was that for?"
"I saw your ears twitch. Don't even think about it."
"Think about wh…oh." She rolled her eyes. "Get your mind out of the gutter, I was just listening in, not perking up."
"My bad, force of habit" Apologized Fleur, without looking that sorry.
Laetitia rolled her eyes again as she started to remove the snow from her body.
Ginny was still glaring, she had finally managed to locate the French girl. She had been beating herself up all this time while Laetitia was having fun with her friends. That stung a bit. Luna appeared next to her, whatever she had been reading was rolled and tucked in into the waist of her skirt, she was snow free as she stated "The girls team win."
"What?!" Exclaimed the Weasley's boys.
"We said no wands. You were the first one to use it, disqualified. Then Neville and Dean, which disqualified their team. By lack of opponent at that point the girls won." She wasn't looking at any of them as she spoke, she was looking at something up, maybe in a tree.
"Following your logic, the girls were disqualified too! I call that refereeing error! Or unfairness!" Argue Seamus.
Luna glanced at him. "Fine then, you all are losers."
Seamus made a face, this wasn't the outcome he was hoping for.
And she walked away humming while she was still looking up, like she was following something only she could see.
They all looked at each over, for a second before Hermione walked up to the opposite. "It was a very nice lion Neville." He blushed and rubbed his neck, looking away. "Thanks Hermione."
They were all converging towards the glade's center. George was speaking loudly "That snowman was amazing Fred. Very nice magic."
"Why thank you George. I do think it was a nice one. Did you see how tall it was?"
"It was bloody brilliant." Added their younger brother.
"A few more seconds and I would have added an armor to your master piece" They overly congratulated each other. "It would have been so nice."
Laetitia snorted. "Excuses. Excuses. Some people can do it instantly."
"Because we all know how big breasts can be effective in a fight." Snarked Hermione.
"We are fighting boys!" Pointed out the French girl. "Like a snow armor would have done the difference, it would still have been made of snow, it would have just looked cool." No one payed attention to her pun.
"It could have been ice!" Argued George
"She is just the pot calling the kettle black. Did I say it right? I mean, you just flash her and she can be quiet for quite some time"
Laetitia could actually feel the heat on her cheeks, no matter how cold it was. "Fleur shut up!"
"What? You've just publicly declared your love for breasts."
"Big boobs." Lowly added Ron, receiving multiples glares for it.
"It was…I was…this was just some silly fun!" Babble the raven-haired woman.
"I didn't think it would embarrass you, it never did before" She turned to Ron "For your information she likes all kinds of breasts."
This time Laetitia actually groaned, not even realizing it as she glanced at the people around her, until she reached the younger Weasley.
"Could we please rewind this?" Hermione's tone made it very clear that she wasn't kidding.
Neville made a face, turning to Harry before he whispered. "Rewind?"
"It's a muggle thing. It means back up in this scenario." Explained the boy who lived.
"When did Laetitia see your breasts?" Inquired Hermione as she crossed her arms.
All the attention was shifting between the two French girls.
"We've been roommates in Beauxbatons for years, we've walked in on each other changing many times." Clarified Fleur.
"And you just get quiet?" Asked Hermione as she turned towards the lycan who had started to take one, then two steps away. She stopped moving. "While…I respect Fleur very much, seeing her…" She cleared her throat "Without her clothes on can leave one person…admirative. Actually…I've seen people react like that even when she is dressed." Laetitia made a wide circular move with her hand, motioning to the boys close to them. They shifted awkwardly, looked away for most, Ron blushed to the tip of his ears.
Hermione's eyes turned to slits for a second, she took a step forward then stopped, took a deep breath, grabbed her girlfriend's hand. "Let's go. I want to spend some time with you before I have to go and get ready for the ball."
Ron opened and closed his mouth, nothing managed to come out so he just stuffed his hands in his pockets and walked away, his brothers laughing behind him.
Laetitia looked at them all leave as Harry was complimenting Neville too about his lion while Dean and Seamus started talking about Quidditch. She glanced at Ginny who remained, Laetitia moved farther away, she'd find something to do in the carriage. She didn't get very far.
Ginny was not going to let her go after that. She stepped in front of the raven-haired woman, but was surprised at how fast she moved. Laetitia shifted her weight on her feet, twirled to avoid the younger girl in front of her, walking right passed her on her left.
"I don't think so" Expressed a very determined the red head as her hand flew without her thinking about it, grabbing the other girl's forearm. Laetitia nearly growled, spinning around as she made a rolling movement with her arm to free it, stepping closer to Ginny.
The Gryffindor's eyes grew wide as Laetitia stepped into her personal, she could have sworn that she had seen dark brown eyes flash yellow.
"Don't touch me if you're not invited to do so."
"Sorry. I'm just so sorry. About everything. I really need to speak to you."
Laetitia crossed her arms, making sure to put that barrier between them. "We don't need to speak about it. Let's just forget it ever happened."
Ginny observed the French girl in front of her, it was obvious it was not something that could just disappear. There was an ache appearing. Did Laetitia wanted to ignore more than their altercation? "No. We need to speak about it. I'm sorry I got carried away, but you need to know this is a very sore subject I'm the youngest of seven children, and the only girl. When someone try to dictate my life, I become defensive."
"I didn't dictate anything, I just told you what I thought, not what you should do, then you pretty much called me a slut."
"I don't think you are one. I was just angry. But that's true, that annoy me to see you go out with all these people."
"Why?! It has nothing to do with you!" Exclaimed the older girl as she spread her arms wide.
Ginny looked away, twisting to lower her backpack on her shoulder so she could open it and pull out her cloves. She was handing them back to Laetitia who took a step back. Ginny walked forward, while Laetitia kept on walking backward in front of the Gryffindor, keeping her hands away so nothing could be put in them.
"I can't accept these." Stated the red head.
"Too late."
"This is too much."
"I don't think so, I've seen yours, you need new ones."
"Yes, a simple pair, not…something so fancy."
Laetitia tensed and glanced behind her, she had her back against a tree. "I thought you deserved them."
"I really don't." This was making Ginny feel worse about the way she had acted towards the raven-haired girl.
"They were designed especially for you, to fit you, even if I'd take them back, what would be the point? Obviously, you don't like them, if they are too fancy, just get rid of them then."
Ginny's jaw dropped "This is not what I meant! I love them!"
"Then why won't you keep them?!"
"I don't know! I just can't…"
Laetitia cut her off. "Just to clear things up, you came here to tell me you were sorry for getting mad and calling me a slut, though you don't know why. Then you tell me you can't accept my Christmas gift, though you don't know why!" The raven-haired woman raised her hands before letting them fall on her thighs, making a small clap sound. "Why won't you just let it go?!"
"Because…because I know I'm not good at this, speaking, explaining my feelings thing" She could kick her brothers' asses, but that was not really the subject, although it was connected, since she grew up dealing mainly with her brothers, that meant more fights than talks. "But I do know that if we don't deal with this it will gnaw me, our…relationship will suffer because of it."
"I don't know what to tell you. What do you want from me?"
Ginny didn't think about it, she took one last step forward, letting her brand-new gloves fall in the snow before grabbing the back of the other girl's neck, pulling her slightly down so could reach her lips.
Laetitia felt the air leave her lungs and suddenly it was like she needed the person touching her to live. She was craving more; she felt her upper back leave the tree as she moved towards the youngest Weasley. She could feel it start in her core, a pulse she was starting to shake, she could feel her teeth elongate…
She raised her hand, placing it right in the middle of Ginny's chest and pushed her away as she pulled back. She leaned back against the tree, thankful that it was there to keep her standing. She closed her eyes tight and turned her head away. She gulped. "No no no."
It stung; Ginny felt the pang in her chest. "You kissed me back!"
"I told you this should…could not happen. You are too young." She was keeping her face away.
"That's just stupid!"
The raven-haired woman clenched her jaw a little tighter to keep the growl in. This was not happening.
Ginny could see the other's girl face distort, she seemed angry. "You can't…bloody hell! Look at me!" Her voice cracked as tears slowly fell. She put herself on the line, not knowing what it meant, it just suddenly clicked and she went with her instinct, to be so blatantly rejected. "The least you could do is actually look at me." Her voice was low, defeated.
Laetitia's head automatically turned towards the voice, she wanted to comfort her, but knew it could make things worse. Fighting herself to remain immobile. She didn't need to see her to know Ginny was expecting something, anything, but the French girl didn't move, she was just breathing hard. She listened to the Gryffindor, as she started to cry harder, as she shifted away, as her steps faded away.
When she was far enough Laetitia let herself slip down the tree, her top ridding up as it rubbed against the bark on her way down. Curled on herself she wrapped her arms around her knees before finally opening her eyes knowing she was completely and utterly alone. Yellow eyes could only stare at the footprints in the snow as she too started to cry, then her eyes landed on the gloves Ginny had left behind.
Ginny was walking as fast as she could without actually running, she kept her head down, she didn't want to see the look on other people's face as she made her way to the castle.
Hermione who was astride her girlfriend sat up as the read head passed by, she looked down at the blonde laying down on a patch of grass, the only snowless place was around the French girl's body. She sighed as she lowered herself to give a peck on Fleur lips before getting up. "I have to…" She pointed at her fellow Gryffindor.
Fleur raised herself on her elbows "I should probably go to."
Hermione gave her a hand as she got up, then rubbed her clean of grass and dust. Fleur raised an eyebrow and smirked as the smaller girl spent a little more time on her behind. The bushy haired girl felt the need to justify her action. "I didn't want you to walk around with grass stain on your…back" What would people say? Was implied.
"Does that mean you can remove grass stain merely by rubbing them?"
Hermione groaned, and to Fleur's delight a pink hue appeared on her cheeks. Fleur moved closer, taking Hermione's hands into her own, then placing them directly on her butt, placing herself in her Hermione's arms in the process.
"Fleur! We are still in public."
"You were just enjoying it, not a minute ago."
"But it didn't look like that."
Fleur's eyebrow went up once more. "You admit that was what it was about. An acceptable, not too pervy way, for you to grope me in public."
Hermione's pink cheeks turned red as she stammered, a few sounds came out before Fleur kissed her. "I'll stop teasing you now. We should both go check on our friends."
Hermione found the third-year girl's dormitory seemingly empty; she went straight to Ginny's bed and opened the drapes. The young Weasley had her head pressed into her pillow, if she knew Hermione was there, she didn't show it. "Ginny?"
"She's not there." Was the response she got, a little muffled by the pillow.
"Do you want me to tell Neville you don't feel up to going to the ball tonight?"
Ginny's body went rigid for a second before she sat up, facing Hermione. She wiped her tears. "No. I couldn't do that to him."
"Are you sure? Neville would understand."
Ginny nodded, wiping one last tear away. "I am going."
Hermione had a small smile on her lips "Do you want to go up to my dormitory and start getting ready?"
"Isn't it a little early?"
"Do you have any idea how much time I'll have to spend on my hair?" She was glad it worked as her friend giggled.
Fleur followed Ginny's footsteps, it led her to her best friend sitting against a tree. She didn't want to spook her, she made her way slowly towards Laetitia. "I'm surprised you didn't change."
"I didn't feel like it."
Fleur knew something was very wrong if her friend didn't go for a run in her wolf form to feel better. She sat down next to Laetitia. "What happened?"
"We argued until out of nowhere she kissed me. I…I…pushed her away."
"Because she is too young?"
"That, and…I was starting to turn" Laetitia turned her pained dark brown eyes towards her friend's blue one. Fleur's didn't seem too phased, she raised an eyebrow. "Does that mean what I think it does?"
"I'm pretty sure she is my one. And I touched her in an inappropriate manner"
"You just kissed right?"
"Of course! She is thirteen!"
"And a half." Added the blonde, which earned her a glare. "It's just three years difference."
"She. Is. Too. Young."
"I didn't mean it like that. She is young, she might be your one, nothing has to happen. You can just be there for her and it's not like one kiss or two would be really inappropriate."
"I could be ostracized by my pack for this."
Fleur sighed. "Ginny isn't stupid, I'm sure she'll understand" She saw her best friend tense, holding on a little tighter to the pair of gloves she was holding. The one she had given to the younger Weasley. Oh. "It's not because she gave you back the gloves that…"
"I didn't tell her anything."
"What?!"
"We kissed, I was starting to change, I just froze. I pushed her and closed my eyes because I knew they had changed, clenched my jaw to hide my canines."
Fleur groaned, this was bad.
"You know I'm supposed to keep my nature under wrap."
"Don't give me that. Was it shock or were you scared?"
"I…it's was a mix of different things. You know wizards are not very fond of wolfs, or people who turn into them."
"People tend not to be fond of things they don't know or understand, not just wolves."
Laetitia snorted "You can rationalize it all you want, I'll still be scared."
"Griyffindors are supposed to be brave, I mean she was brave to come up to a sixteen-year-old girl and just kiss her." Laetitia was already glaring at her friend before she finished her sentence. "Don't look at me like that, she showed more courage than you, staying here while your mate is hurt and walking away." This time the raven-haired girl actually growled.
"You can't understand, you Veelas are seen as glamourous sexy creatures, while we, are the big bad wolves."
"What I understand is that if you do nothing, you'll lose your mate."
They stayed there, side by side for a while, until Laetitia let the back of her head drop against the tree with a groan, Fleur hoped she would speak but when she didn't the blonde had to "I'm sorry but I can't stay here any longer. I have to get ready for the ball." She sat up, looked down at her friend. "Are you coming?"
"I don't know"
"I'd like for my best friend to be there." Fleur reached out, hoping Laetitia would take it. Neither of them moved so the blonde added. "I'm sure your date would like for you to be there too"
Laetitia groaned once more. "My dates won't mind."
Fleur's hand dropped on her side "Dates? As in plural?"
"Yes." Could only say Laetitia with a wince.
"Do they know about each other?"
"Of course! We just…"
"I don't…want to know more. It's fine."
Laetitia finally got up. "It's not fine. Ginny will be there."
"So what? You just won't show up?"
"What would be the point?"
"You could actually do something about it!"
They looked at each other in the eyes before Fleur walked away.
