A/N

Second update of the story!

I know a lot is happening in 'one day' and I am aware that some events are not in chronological order. Just needed this as a starter.

So Lorraine and Mark don't see eye to eye which makes it fun to use such scenes in the story!

I also love Callie and George team up and saving each others butts.

enjoy part 2 of chapter 1!

God's right hand (pt.2)

Lorraine practically got to see the main wing of the hospital.

The on-call room, cafeteria, nurses station and OR.

As the tour came to an end, Richard and Lorraine took a halt at where the tour began two hours ago, the nurses station.

'When you start tomorrow we will gather at the station. Here you will find the charts of your patients. Dr. Bailey will be here to direct our interns and she appoints one to an attending.

'Oh as a matter of fact, there is one of our interns now. Dr. Grey.'

The chief gestured for Meredith to come over.

'Dr. Webber. Is there anything I can do for you?'

Meredith gave a welcoming smile to Lorraine, who returned the favour. The intern held a chart in front of her chest, crossing her arms over the hard material.

The chief continued.

'I wanted to introduce you to Dr. Kelaghan.'

Both shook hands as Meredith welcomed the new surgeon.

'Hi, Meredith Grey.'

'Grey? As in related to Ellis Grey?'

'My mother.'

'Wauw, you carry heavy weight Grey, it's not easy to follow your mother's footsteps.'

Meredith smiled and shook her head.

'No…' she sighed. 'It is not.'

The chief interrupted. 'We all believe Meredith has the skills of her mother and will make a great surgeon.'

Lorraine locked eyes with Meredith, knowing the chief's remark somehow made Meredith uncomfortable.

'I am sure your talent will unfold to the greatest limits Grey.

Lorraine spoke when Dr. Greys pager went off.

'Thank you dr. Kelaghan. I… uh.. have to take this.'

Both Richard and Lore nodded.

'Well this brings us to the end of our tour. I am sure you want to get settled and read into some patients' charts.'

'As a matter of fact I do. When I have any questions, I'll let you know.'

'I am very pleased you joined our staff.'

Lorraine nodded and shook hands once more before watching dr. Webber walking back to his office in a very good mood. Lorraine would soon learn Richard wasn't a complicated man. He worked hard and all who did as he did, had a high chance of becoming a friend instead of an employee.

The surgeon sighed, her head trying to process all the info she was given.

She decided to go to the locker room and grab some lunch after.

As she walked in, searching for her locker, she read the name M. Bailey. She recalled this was the person who was supervising the interns. Poor thing babysitting a bunch of young know-it-alls.

Lorraine opened her locker, put her bag and jacket into it and grabbed a white lab coat.

Lorraine's blue eyes roamed over the white fabric. She read Seattle Grace Hospital in a dark blue cursive font.

For a second her mind drifted off to QHC, wondering if her old colleagues would miss her at all.

No, this was the right decision. She couldn't go back, not after what happened.

Lore took a deep breath and put on the coat. A quick glance in the mirror made her fix her hair. You can do this.

Lorraine walked down the corridors as she took in her environment. The smell of disinfection, nurses running about, she would feel at home in no time, she hoped.

Turning the corner she bumped into Addison, startling both of them.

'Oh..uhm.. sorry.'

'Okay.. I'll..'

'Let me…'

'Just..'

Both tried to pass one another, causing them to choose the same direction which made this very awkward.

Addison and Lorraine held their ground.

Suddenly Lorraine rested her hands on Addisons hips, guiding her two steps to her right. Lorraine's touch was ever so light, you wouldn't even notice when you closed your eyes.

Addison felt her hair brush against the wall when Lore let go of her hips and smiled.

'It's like dancing.' She frowned her eyebrow amusingly.

With that she continued her journey towards the cafeteria, leaving Addison with her lips slightly parted. Was she still flirting with her? She smiled at herself. Somehow she seemed to like this, whatever this was.

Lunchtime.

Addison took a seat at the table where Callie and George sat.

George was practically sitting on Callie's lap.

'Okay, George, can I just like, eat my salad?'

'Oh, yeah, sorry.' He scooted over to the other side of the table. Ever since they had been married. George made sure to let her know how much he loved her.

'Don't mind me, I'm not here.' Addison mentioned, taking a bite of her lunch.

'Do you know the chiefs niece is admitted? I have to babysit her.'

'Babysit her, I am sure the chief sees it different.'

'I am a surgeon Callie, I need to scrub in surgeries, not fetch coffee and cookies.'

Callie laughed about this, finding it amusing seeing George getting worked up about this.

'Do you have a surgery I can scrub into?' He took Callie's wrist, almost pleading her to save him.

'Karev is already scrubbing in.' She laughed, taking her hand from George's.

'Can't you ditch him?'

'No I can't George. That would be favoritism if Ilet you scrub in.' Callie over exaggerated the I in her answer.

Both George and Callie watched Addison with pouty faces.

'I can't do anything..' Both pretended to cry as Addison was about to refuse.

'Okay, fine! You can scrub in o'Malley.' As she rolled her eyes, smiling as she did so. 'You two are just.. meant to be.'

'You're sweet, thank you Addison.' Callie giving George a high five.

Callie jogged her elbow against Addison's.

'Your friend is here.'

Dr. Montgomery saw Lorraine getting some lunch, moving through the crowded cafeteria , sitting down at a table at the side.

She opened a magazine and started reading while enjoying lunch.

'It's like the first day at school. I always hated that.' Callie shrugged at the memory.

'No one to talk to, all by yourself..'

Dr. Montgomery felt sad seeing the surgeon eating lunch on her own. Maybe it was cause she knew how it felt to be on your own, alone.

Without a word Adisson got up.

'Where are you going?'

'I can't let her sit by herself.'

Addison took her lunch with her and walked over to Lorraine's table.

'Is this seat taken?'

Dr. Kelaghan glanced up from the article she was reading.

'Be my guest.'

Addison took a seat and took another bite. There was a short silence,

'I wanted to apologize for my behavior earlier.'

Lorraine took a bite from her ceasar salad, taking in Addison's words.

'It was unprofessional of me and I don't question your abilities as a surgeon.'

Lorraine watched Addison in silence, pretending to overthink if she would accept her apology.

That moment a male voice caught both women's attention.

'Addison, been looking for you.'

Mark flirted casually leaning his left leg on the table.

Lorraine couldn't help but take in Mark's behavior.

'Well you found me.'

Dr. Montgomery averted her eyes from Sloan as if she wasn't enjoying his moves.

'What'd you say, you, me, tonight?'

He winked at Lorraine referring to the hot sex he was getting tonight.

'I can't Mark, I have plans.' She blurted out, maybe a little too obvious to her surroundings.

'Plans? You don't make plans, you're Addison! What are you going to do?'

Mark placed his hand on Addison's shoulder as she shifted uncomfortably.

Clearly she wasn't enjoying his touch at all.

'She's going out with me.'

Both surgeons watched Lorraine as she spoke, eating her salad.

It was Addison who watched her intensely, almost thanking her for saving her out of this

situation.

'As I recall you still owe me dinner and I am free tonight, might as well get this over with.'

'Addison?' She looked at Sloan, confirming she was indeed going out.

'Unbelievable.' Mark mumbled to himself, leaving the two surgeons by themselves.

'Thank you.' Addie's words were silent, almost too silent for one to hear.

'Is he always like that?'

'Most of the time.'

Lorraine smirked to herself. She always thought guys like him didn't have the guts to come near a woman.

'I see.' There was a pause. 'You got any surgeries today?' Lorraine folded the magazine she was reading earlier.

'Plannend C-section, She's having twins.'

'Double trouble.'

'Double to love.'

Both laughed, Lorraine nodded. 'True indeed.'

GAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGA

Lorraine was reading over the chart Cristina gave her as Mark stood next to her, way too close for what her preferable distance was.

'Ever heard of personal space?' She said without looking up from the notes she was making.

'Look, let's be honest here. I don't know what is going on between you and Addison but do I have to compete with you?'

Lorraine faked a smile at him.

'Now what makes you think that?'

'There's been talk, you know the nurses talk, the interns, a hospital isn't a place where you can keep things quiet.'

'Really.' Her tone was amusing. 'What is it they say exactly?'

'You know… that you're interested but the thing is, and you might thank me later, Addison isn't into women. She's into guys, guys like me.'

Lorraine remained silent, sighing deeply when she rolled her eyes.

She turned towards him, putting the chart down on the desk of the nurses station.

'What do you want?'

'Well since you two are going for 'dinner'.. Mark quoted the word dinner with his index fingers. 'I am open for a private party, just the three of us.'

Lorraine faked a laugh this time.

This guy is unbelievable.

She put her hand on his wrist and leaned closer to him. By now both of them had eyes watching them intensively.

'And what makes you think I want to share Addison with you?' She whispered.

Mark was confused by her remark.

'You can't get into her pants so now you need me to do the job? If you would open your eyes instead of undressing her with them all the time you would notice. She clearly isn't interested.'

Mark smirked and watched as Lorraine turned to walk away, making clear this conversation was over.

'She wasn't complaining last time!'

Mark yelled at her.

Lorraine took a halt as soon as she heard his words.

In a flash she turned around and stomped right over to Mark, hitting him on the cheek. Bystanders silently gasped as she did so. Cristina tried to hide away a nervous smile. Did she really hit Mark?

The interns watched from the sidelines as if watching a soap.

'Show some respect Sloan, no wonder I heard your name back in NY.'

Leaving Mark with a red cheek and his confidence right next to his shoes.

GAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGA

The event took place an hour ago and it was all the interns could talk about.

Dr. Montgomery and o' Malley just returned from surgery, nearing the nurses station.

'I like her.' Cristina said. 'She has more balls than Bambi here.' Cristina leaned her feet on the desk, eating some popcorn.

George froze uncomfortably.

'Why do you say stuff like that?'

Addison took a seat and filled in some discharge forms for her patient.

'You should have seen it George, she smacked Dr. Sloan right in the face.' Izzy told him as George listened to the story.

'Why?'

'He probably insulted someone she cares about.' Meredith continued, taking a bite of her apple.

'She wasn't complaining last time.' Cristina said with a low voice, pretending to be Sloan. All the interns laughed.

'Dr. Yang!'

All of them startled when they heard Lorraine's voice as she approached the group. All the interns stood up silently, feeling busted like kids who took a cooky from the table.

'I am glad I contributed to your happiness today but if you would like to scrub in on my surgeries, don't do that again. Ever.'

'Yes dr. Kelaghan.'

The interns scattered around going to their patients as Lorraine took the seat Cristina was in seconds ago.

She sighed and tucked some blond hair behind her ear, looking up some archives of an admitted patient who came in for planned surgery tomorrow.

Addison watched Lorraine's back as the blonde woman's eyes read the anamnesis.

Silently she moved her chair next to Lorraines, making Lore watch her.

'Did you really hit Mark in the face?'

'He deserved it.'

'Did he insult you?'

'I didn't see eye to eye with him and he thought it was okay to prove me otherwise.'

Both pairs of eyes locked and Addison couldn't help but laugh nervously.

Her left hand went through her red hair. 'I can't believe you hit him.'

'I can't believe you put up with him, he watches you as if you're nothing more than a good...' Lorraine paused right there, suddenly realizing the content she was about to share in a public room.

'Never mind.' Lorraine thought it was best to let this conversation go, she did not want to upset Addison.

'Go ahead, say it.'

Dr. Montgomery crossed her arms, she knew Lore was of the same opinion Derek was. She could hear a sigh escaping Lore's lips.

'Look, what I am trying to say is, you deserve someone who cares about you.'

Lorraine turned her chair towards Addison, their knees touching each other.

'Something steady instead of being used for the needs of others.'

Addison took a deep breath and watched her hands fumble with the brim of her blouse. Somehow Lorraine had been the one touching the strings so far and even standing up for her. When Derek punched Mark in the face a few months ago, she always lied to herself it was because he wanted to protect her but she knew better. He had punched him cause he felt betrayed by his wife and best friend. Lorraine on the other hand, she must have punched him cause she cares genuinely?

Addison's eyes roamed over to Lore's, who watched her worriedly.

'I upset you.'

'Nothing I can't handle.' She faked a smile to her colleague. Lorraine patted her on the knee before getting up. Addison watched her go by.

'You still up for dinner?'

'Oh, you really meant.., I.. sure.'

'Okay, meet me in the lobby at 7?'

'I'll be there.'

A/N: and so we are at the end of this part! Sorry for all the Mark Sloan lovers out there! What will come next?! Find out and read!
