Chapter 1: Percy
Percy was what you would call a naturally indecisive and stubborn person. So, when after a week of visiting Pantheon High School for the Magically Inclined Percy said that he was sure he wanted to attend, his mother had stared at him in shock.
The school was in New York, Manhattan to be specific, but his stepfather Paul had gotten a job at FSU as a history professor and his mother supported him. The new job had, of course, required them to move, so they had moved to Florida. That led to Percy being trapped on a three-hour flight from Tallahassee to Manhattan where he would stay in the school dorms.
Percy opened his phone the moment he landed. Looking at his phone Percy was surprised to see a couple of messages from a contact with the name Dante Thunderstone. Percy chuckled at the name as he read the messages.
dantethunderstone: just got here
dantethunderstone: where are you
Percy stared at his phone for a minute before responding.
ILoveBlueCookies: I assume you're from the school?
dantethunderstone: your new roommate bro.
ILoveBlueCookies: cool. I'll be out soon we just landed
dantethunderstone: aight, I'm in the blue Lamborghini Huracan.
Percy pocketed his phone as he got out of the uncomfortable plane seat. All things considered, the flight hadn't been that bad he thought as he stretched his arms out. Percy's problem with air travel was more due to the fact that he was the son of the Greek god of the sea Poseidon.
Walking off the plane Percy practically ran to baggage claim to grab his suitcases. A lot of his personally important belongings were in his luggage and it almost hurt that he had been required to check the two suitcases.
Getting out of the airport proved to be harder than getting to the baggage claim. Before he had managed to collect his second suitcase he was accosted by an airport security officer who asked him if he was lost. It had taken him an extra ten minutes to get his second bag because the officer had left not him alone.
Sure Percy was a minor, after all, he was still 17, but Percy had grown up in New York and lived there till his stepfather got the job offer to teach at FSU. Not just that, but he was also a demigod which made him stronger, faster, and smarter than most adults in their prime. There wasn't really much that the officer could do to help him, but it had taken Percy quite a bit time to explain that he was indeed not lost to the officer.
Finally walking out of the exit, Percy immediately began scanning for his new roommate's car. Finding the car was easy, as Lamborghinis tend to stick out in a crowd of cars. The car was sky blue with yellow accents that looked like lightning. Percy immediately thought he knew whose car it was, though he apparently could have been wrong.
Percy thought the car belonged to his cousin Thalia who was the daughter of Zeus. Percy had met Thalia when he was visiting the campus with his mother so they could see the new school a couple of months ago. That was when everyone was away on break except her, Chiron had personally asked Thalia to show him around. Percy and Thalia had immediately forged a bond like that between siblings and Percy had decided to save her number so they could stay in contact in case he decided the school wasn't for him. He was sure that he hadn't told her that he was coming through.
Walking over to the car Percy knocked on the window. "You really live up to your name huh Thunderstone," he said as the window rolled down.
"The name is Jason actually," the guy in the driver's seat said, "also, are you accusing me of stealing my own car."
Percy looked him in the light blue eyes questioningly. "Really?" Percy asked, "it reminds me of Thalia's car."
"How do you know Thalia?" Jason asked.
"She showed me around when I came to visit over the summer. She picked me up from the beach the first time in this car," Percy answered. "She told me you were a good guy," Percy continued.
Jason chuckled a bit before nodding. "She said I was a good guy but didn't mention I was her twin?" he asked.
"Oh," Percy said with a look of surprise on his face, "she's your sister." After taking a moment to let what Jason said sink in, Percy lifted up his two suitcases and asked, "so where do I put these?"
Jason hopped out of the car and popped the trunk open before grabbing the larger of the two cases and putting it in and motioning to the other one.
"You can put that one in now," Jason said while moving back to his door. Percy quickly complied with Jason's request closing the trunk quickly and walking back to his side to get in.
"So," Percy said sarcastically, looking at Jason while he buckled his seat belt, "where to know mister Thunderstone." Jason gave him a look of surprise.
"You don't know?" Jason asked his voice filled with the same surprise etched on his face.
"So you don't understand sarcasm, just like Pinecone Face said. That's a bit disappointing mister Thunderstone," Percy replied chuckling a bit.
"Oh," Jason grumbled, "you were being sarcastic" glaring at him before turning to the road and starting the car.
Percy laughed, "don't worry though broseph, by the end of the year you'll be a comedian like me," he said.
Jason glanced at him one last time before gunning the engine. The car shot off quickly surprising Percy in two ways. Firstly, it accelerated much faster then he thought it would. Secondly, the car went airborne almost immediately.
Although he would deny it if Jason ever brought it up, Percy definitely shrieked like a little girl. "Next time warn me before you do that," he said, gulping down the lump in his throat.
Jason snickered before chuckling out an apology. "Sorry," he rasped "I didn't realize that flying turned you into a little bitch."
Percy stared at him for a second before laughing. "Did you just make a joke dude?" he asked. Jason chuckled again before nodding. "No way" Percy grinned "the notorious Jason made a joke, I can not believe it. Pinecone Face said you had a stick so far up your ass that you didn't joke around. Like. Ever."
Jason looked at Percy momentarily before looking back at the sky. "Thalia really told you stuff like that about me, but she didn't tell you we were twins?" he asked.
"Yeah," Percy said, "Pinecone Face told me about your whole group she never mentioned that you two were twins though. You look very different, you know. Besides, I didn't ask her about it, just about the important parts. Pinecone Face is weird."
Jason looked at him again before saying "You are right, Thalia is a bit weird. Only my sister would think that something like that is unimportant. She didn't tell you about anything incriminating did she?" he asked.
"Only that you're head over heels for this Piper girl," Percy chuckled.
"God damn it," Jason groaned, " I told her that in confidence, I thought you only asked about important things."
"That is kind of important," Percy teased "from the pictures Pinecone Face showed me your infatuation with each other is so obvious I'm surprised Piper isn't kissing you right now. Besides, she only told me because I specifically asked if you two were together yet. You should make a move, chivalry isn't dead."
Jason's face flushed bright red, "what do you mean dude?" he asked.
"Nevermind bro," Percy chuckled again, "how long till we get to the dorm?" he asked, smoothly changing the subject.
Jason glanced down at the road below before answering. "We are about two to three minutes from the dorm by road so I'm gonna land the car."
Percy sighed in relief as Jason brought the car down slowly towards the road.
"Welcome to the Demigod Dorms," Jason said as the now grounded car passed through a gilded gate emblazoned with the words, being a hero does not make you a legend, your actions do, written in ancient greek.
Percy thought the quote was rather fitting. Looking at Jason Percy asked, "so where is everybody? I thought there would be a welcome party or something."
"Thalia will have my head for telling you this, but they are waiting outside the elevator for us, they wanted to introduce themselves to the new kid," Jason answered parking the car in front of a white apartment building. "If you want I can go in and ask them to come back later once you've settled in," Jason suggested.
Percy looked at him for a second before saying "Nah it's not a problem, besides I have to meet the friends' Pinecone Face talked so fondly about."
"Why do you call my sister Pinecone Face" Jason questioned as they both opened their doors and got out of the car.
Percy looked at him for a second thinking about how to answer the question. "Well," he stated, "the first time I met Thalia I had been swimming at the beach and she had come to pick me up and show me around, just as Chiron had asked her to do. I had some seaweed in my hair when I got out of the water so she called me Kelp Head as a sort of joke slash nickname."
Jason looked at him inquisitively, " what does that have to do with anything?" he asked.
"I was getting there," Percy said exasperatedly. "A couple of days after she nicknamed me Kelp Head, I decided to give her a nickname of her own. In the beginning, I tried calling her Tree Girl but it just didn't stick. Pinecone Face was my second try and it stuck."
"Interesting," Jason said as he pulled Percy's bags out of the trunk. Jason turned to the building locking the car as he did so stopping at the entrance so that Percy ran into his back.
"I realize now that you never told me your name," Jason said as he turned back around to face Percy.
Percy nodded "you're right, it slipped my mind," he said sticking out his hand "The name is Perseus Jackson, son of Poseidon. You can call me Percy or Perseus. I don't really care. Though I do prefer Percy a bit more."
"Nice to meet you, Percy," Jason said, as he shook Percy's hand, "Welcome to Pantheon High school for the Magically Inclined."
