Chapter 3: Percy

If Percy's room was a girl he would be in love. I mean he had just met Annabeth and sure she was beautiful, but the room definitely took the cake, he was a boy after all.

Percy had just entered the dorm, having excused himself after a few minutes so he could put away his stuff, promising Thalia and the others they would be out the moment he finished in the process. That being said, Percy felt as though he never wanted to step out of the dorm room again.

Percy was standing in a massive main area the size of the empire state building lobby. On his immediate left was a coat room and on his right was a bathroom. Further down the room were two large statues facing each other.

The one on the left of the room was a large marble statue of Poseidon, while the one facing it was a large golden bust of Zeus. Percy figured that that probably meant that the left bedroom was his so he promptly walked in.

The bedroom was set up identically to his room in Florida, only the difference was that everything was bigger. The room itself was at least twice the size and the bed was a king-size futon as opposed to the twin-sized mattress he had slept on for the last 14 years. Not just that but in the corner, a three monitor computer setup was set up with enough space that Percy could probably fit in another monitor and still have plenty of room.

"Damn this is nice,'' Percy muttered to no one, looking around the room in shock as he walked over to the bed in the corner and dumped his bags down. "I can't believe this is my new room, it's so nice."

"You should see Leo's room," came a voice from behind him. Spinning around in surprise Percy saw Jason leaning on the door. "Thalia sent me to get you, something about you taking too long," Jason said again motioning in the direction of their now shared front door which was barely visible from Percy's room.

"Ah okay," Percy said, turning back quickly to his bags and starting to unpack onto his bed.

"Do you want help?" Jason asked looking over Percy's shoulder.

Percy quickly shook his head in response.

"Nah I'm good," he said. "Tell the others I'll be out in a minute and to go ahead without me," he continued after pausing for a second.

Percy looked over the contents of the bag he had just emptied onto his bed as Jason left quickly finding things he needed that he couldn't bring on the plane. First, he grabbed the magic necklace his father had given him at birth that turned into a perfectly fit suit of armor and placed it around his neck. Second, he grabbed the bronze watch that unfolded into a shield when its face was pressed twice quickly.

Finally, Percy picked up his most prized possession. Pulling off the cap of the bronze ballpoint that he had picked up, Percy watched, fascinated as he was the first time he saw it, as the pen transformed into a greek blade about 3 feet long decorated in ancient greek words.

Capping the pen Percy put it in his pocket before getting up and walking to the door. Quickly he looked around the room before turning off the light and left the room, closing the door as he did so.

Walking out of the dorm room, Percy found Annabeth sitting on the floor by the door.

"Why are you here?" he asked as she stood.

"Jason and the others went ahead," she replied. "Thalia suggested that I stay to show you how to get to the mess hall where we meet before capture the flag," she quickly explained.

"Wait, we're playing capture the flag?" Percy asked, surprised.

Annabeth just looked at him blankly, "Do you know anything about this school?" she asked in response to his question.

"No, I don't" came his instant reply.

"Oh, right. Your new, come on, I'll explain on the way," she sighed, turning on her heel for the stairs.

"How do you forget that I am new? We literally just met 20 minutes ago," Percy asked as they reached the stairs.

"I was thinking about capture the flag plans, I am our head strategist after all," she replied as Percy propped open the door.

Percy gasped, "then why didn't you go ahead and have someone else stay back?" he questioned.
Annabeth went slightly red, "thalia was really insistent," she quickly explained.

Percy noticed the slight blush on her cheeks but decided to ignore it in favor of the other questions floating around his mind. "So, why capture the flag?" he asked as they reached the lobby floor.

Nodding, Annabeth began to explain. "Every day we have an inter-dorm competition, for example, on Sundays we do siege games or on Wednesday we have capture the flag," she said.

"So we are against the other dorms?" Percy asked when she paused.

Annabeth nodded, "we are, but you can also form alliances with other dorms, this week we allied ourselves with the Valhalla dorm," she said.

Percy nodded as they both fell into silence. The remainder of the walk was quick and quiet, but Percy a tenseness in Annabeth's stride that Percy had not sensed when they had still been talking, it was almost as if she was nervous.

When they arrived at the doors, Annabeth stopped and pulled him aside. "You're gonna be one of our solo runners," she said, looking at him seriously.

"What the hell is a solo runner?" Percy asked.

"Your job is to cross into enemy territories to try and locate the flag as well as cause as much damage to enemy defenses as possible," she replied as if she had expected the question.

Percy nodded, "find the flag and beat people up, I can do that," he said smiling.

"Alright, you're gonna be sitting with me and the other officers," Annabeth said, moving back to the doors.

"Wait, why am I sitting with you? I'm not an officer," Percy said, grabbing her shoulder to stop her before she could pull one open.

Annabeth chuckled, "with the exception of you, everyone on floor 12 is a ranking officer on the team," she said. "Now come on, we have a flag to win," she continued, pulling open the door.
