"Wait, when was Doki Doki Literature Club released again?" Ako asked.

"2017." The Perfect Yuri answered.

"So that would mean I'm…" Ako whispered as she crunched numbers in her head. "Five years old… I guess I'll have to leave then." Ako said as she got out of her chair.

"Sit down, Ako." Anthy said as she grabbed the monochrome girl's shoulder, pulling her back into her chair. As she did, the Perfect Yuri clicked the button.

This game is not suitable for children or those who are easily disturbed.
~Doki Doki!~

"Hello, ladies, gentleman, everyone in-between, beyond, and undecided!" The Perfect Yuri announced as the literature club appeared on the screen. "My name is The Perfect Yuri, and I am joined today by Ako and Anthy!"

"Hello everyone." Ako waved.
"Salutations, all potential users of the Anthy anti-virus program!" Anthy greeted through her spiky smile.

"Today, the three of us shall be taking a stroll down our friend's memory lane," The Perfect Yuri announced. "And experience first hand the depths of terror that is Doki Doki Literature Club."

"I ended the blog so that we could do this." Anthy noted.

"Consider it a monthly reunion." Ako stated.

"Let's just get this show on the road." The Perfect Yuri declared before clicking the new game button.

Please enter your name

"So, what do you girls want to name the character?" The Perfect Yuri asked her cohosts.

"Isn't his name MC?" Ako asked. "Or... Player? The club never keeps it straight."

"His name could be anything we want it to be." The Perfect Yuri stated.

"Anything?" Ako asked, earning a nod from the two next to her. "How's about… SayAko?"

"… I doubt Monika would be happy about that." The Perfect Yuri said.

"How about William Snakespeare?" Anthy asked before her eyes widned. "Wait, no, shit, wrong meme."

Perfect Yuri took the keyboard. "Let's just name it, 'The Perfect Yur-' Oh, darn, it doesn't fit."

"Why not just, 'Ako?'" Ako suggested. "It's only three letters long."

"Ako, if Monika hears that you were trying to romance Sayori again, even in a separate game, she'll probably be very angry." The Perfect Yuri stated.

"We've been on much better terms lately." Ako said.

"Let's not risk it." The teal-haired girl responded.

"Hang on, I got it!" Anthy stated as she took the keyboard.

{B-Ko}

"… That works I guess." Ako said.

"Perfect." The Perfect Yuri said before accepting the name. "Then away we go!"

*The game opens on the residential area as the music starts playing.*
Sayori: "Heeeeeeeyyy!"

"Hello, Sayori." Ako smiled.

I see an annoying girl running toward me from the distance, waving her arms in the air like she's totally oblivious to any attention she might draw to herself.
That girl is Sayori, my neighbor and good friend since we were children.

"'She's the ginger from the title screen.'" Anthy joked.

"Wait, isn't Sayori's hair coral-pink?" Ako asked.

"Oh, like it makes a difference." The Perfect Yuri grumbled. "I doubt even she knows."

You know, the kind of friend you'd never see yourself making today, but it just kind of works out because you've known each other for so long?

"Oh, you mean like me and Monika?" Ako asked.

"You two knew each other for, like, two years tops." The Perfect Yuri stated.

"And we've been through so much together." Ako smiled.

We used to walk to school together on days like this, but starting around high school she would oversleep more and more frequently, and I would get tired of waiting up.

"Who is he saying all of this for?" Anthy asked.

"Oh, you mean you don't think in expositional dialogue in case a story begins?" Ako asked. "'Ako asked, curious as to why her friend, Anthy – the compture's antivirus program – was confused by the narration in the game they were playing.'"

"Or to ensure that you haven't lost your memory, Anthy?" The Perfect Yuri joked. "It's why people say your name so much, Anthy. Or call you one of our close friends, Anthy; to make sure we haven't forgotten anything, Anthy."

But if she's going to chase after me like this, I almost feel better off running away.

"Knowing your hobbies, I'd say you'd get a good six feet before passing out." The Perfect Yuri joked.

However, I just sigh and idle in front of the crosswalk and let Sayori catch up to me.

"'She drops a butterfly net around my head.'" Anthy joked.

"'I just caught a main character!'" Ako joked.

Sayori: "Haaahhh...haaahhh..."
Sayori: "I overslept again!"
Sayori: "But I caught you this time!"
B-Ko: "Maybe, but only because I decided to stop and wait for you."
Sayori: "Eeehhhhh, you say that like you were thinking about ignoring me!"
Sayori: "That's mean, B-Ko."

"Is this what friendship actually looks like?" Ako asked. "Have I been doing it wrong all this time?"

"No, you haven't, this guy is just a jerk." The Perfect Yuri stated.

"Oh, so this is going to be one of those stories where the pair start out disliking each other but eventually become friends?" Ako asked.

"… Not quite." The Perfect Yuri sighed.

B-Ko: "Well, if people stare at you for acting weird then I don't want them to think we're a couple or something."

"But you are a couple." Ako stated. "A couple of friends."

"That's not what that means, and you know it." Anthy said.

Sayori: "Fine, fine."
Sayori: "But you did wait for me, after all."
Sayori: "I guess you don't have it in you to be mean to me even if you wanted to~"

"'The only reason I'm not running off is because you have me in a butterfly net.'" Anthy joked.

B-Ko: "Whatever you say, Sayori."
Sayori: "Ehehe~"
We cross the street together and make our way to school.
As we draw near, the streets become increasingly speckled with other students making their daily commute.

"I wonder if they see me in this?" Ako pondered.

Sayori: "By the way, B-Ko."
Sayori: "Have you decided on a club to join yet?"
B-Ko: "A club?"

"A-Club for B-Ko." Anthy chuckled.

B-Ko: "I told you already, I'm really not interested in joining any clubs."
B-Ko: "I haven't been looking either."
Sayori: "Eh? That's not true!"

"'I saw you put in an application for the sky-diving club.'" Anthy joked in an impression of the ginger.

"'Pretty strange that the school offers that, actually.'" Ako noted.

Sayori: "You told me you would join a club this year."
B-Ko: "Did I…?"
I'm sure it's possible that I did, in one of my many conversations where I dismissively go along with whatever she's going on about.

"'But since she didn't get it in writing, the contract isn't legally binding.'" The Perfect Yuri joked.

Sayori likes to worry a little too much about me, when I'm perfectly content just getting by on the average while spending my free time on games and anime.

"You know, maybe it was a good call not naming this character after me." Ako sighed. "We're complete opposites."

Sayori: "Uh-huh!"
Sayori: "I was talking about how I'm worried that you won't learn how to socialize or have any skills before college."
Sayori: "Your happiness is really import to me, you know!"
Sayori: "And I know you're happy now, but I'd die at the thought of you becoming a NEET in a few years because you're not used to the real world!"

"Why would that be a bad thing?" Ako asked. "I think most people would like to be seen as neat."

"No, Ako, that's not what that word means." Anthy said.

"You know the term weeb, yet you don't know NEET?" The Perfect Yuri asked.

Sayori: "You trust me, right?"
Sayori: "Don't make me keep worrying about you..."

"Yeah, nothing good happens when Sayori is worried." Anthy stated. "She's connected to the code of the game. Every time she worries it might rain, it becomes a hurricane."

"On the bright side, that makes getting snow days very easy." The Perfect Yuri joked.

B-Ko: "Alright, alright..."
B-Ko: "I'll look at a few clubs if it makes you happy."
B-Ko: "No promises, though."
Sayori: "Will you at least promise me you'll try a little?"
B-Ko: "Yeah, I guess I'll promise you that."
Sayori: "Yaay~!"
Why do I let myself get lectured by such a carefree girl?

"Because she's cute?" Ako suggested.
"Because she's the kindest person you'll ever meet?" Anthy asked.
"Because it's the closest to a woman you'll ever get?" The Perfect Yuri snarked.

More than that, I'm surprised I even let myself relent to her.
I guess seeing her worry so much about me makes me want to ease her mind at least a little bit - even if she does exaggerate everything inside of her head.
*Scene changes to the classroom.*
The school day is as ordinary as ever, and it's over before I know it.
After I pack up my things, I stare blankly at the wall, looking for an ounce of motivation.

"You'll find more at the convenient store." The Perfect Yuri joked.

"Just pick an item and choose your reward system." Anthy added.

B-Ko: "Clubs..."

"'Maces, swords...'" Anthy joked. "'Nope, no motivation here.'"

"'Maybe I should check the hardware section.'" Ako added.

Sayori wants me to check out some clubs.
I guess I have no choice but to start with the anime club…
Sayori: "Hellooo?"
B-Ko: "Sayori...?"
Sayori must have come into the classroom while I was spacing out.
I look around and realize that I'm the only one left in the classroom.

"'Which isn't that much different from how the image was presented before,'" The Perfect Yuri began imitating. "'But it's a visual novel. Use your imagination a little.'"

Sayori: "I thought I'd catch you coming out of the classroom, but I saw you just sitting here and spacing out, so I came in."
Sayori: "Honestly, you're even worse than me sometimes... I'm impressed!"
B-Ko: "You don't need to wait up for me if it's going to make you late to your own club."

"Oh, don't worry, we actually don't have any set schedule." Ako stated. "One time, I was the only one who made it to the club on time, and the others didn't show up until I called them about it."

"That's because you came in on a Saturday." The Perfect Yuri said.

Sayori: "Well, I thought you might need some encouragement, so I thought, you know..."
B-Ko: "Know what?"

"'I could loan you an ounce of motivation.'" Anthy joked.

"Item got: One (1) ounce of motivation." Ako said.

"How did you do that?" The Perfect Yuri asked with wide eyes.

"Do what?"

"Put the one in brackets there?"

"What are you talking about?"

Sayori: "Well, that you could come to my club!"
B-Ko: "Sayori..."
Sayori: "Yeah?"
B-Ko: "...There is no way I'm going to your club."

"Should we tell him?" Ako asked.

"He'll find out soon enough." The Perfect Yuri said.

Sayori: "Eeeehhhhh?! Meanie!"
Sayori is vice president of the Literature Club.
Not that I was ever aware that she had any interest in literature.
In fact, I'm 99% sure she only did it because she thought it would be fun to help start a new club.
Since she was the first one to show interest after the one who proposed the club, she inherited the title "Vice President".

"I'm fairly certain this is unreliable narration." Ako said. "I know at least two other people who were… Wait a minute… If I was the fifth member to join the club… Does this mean I'm the main character now?"

"Please tell me your joking." The Perfect Yuri sighed.

That said, my interest in literature is guaranteed to be even less.

"To be fair, I wasn't that interested before I joined." Ako stated.

B-Ko: "Yeah. I'm going to the anime club."
Sayori: "C'mon, please?"
B-Ko: "Why do you care so much, anyway?"
Sayori: "Well…"
Sayori: "I kind of told the club yesterday I would bring in a new member..."
Sayori: "And Natsuki made cupcakes and everything..."
Sayori: "Ehehe..."
B-Ko: "Don't make promises you can't keep!"
I can't tell if Sayori is really that much of an airhead, or if she's so cunning as to have planned all of this out.

"A little of A, a touch of B." The Perfect Yuri stated.

"A pinch of C." Ako added.

"What's C?"

"Cuteness." Ako answered. "… Monika isn't going to see this, right?"

I let out a long sigh.

Ako took in a breath before she let out a sigh. The air continued to escape through her teeth as the noise droned on. Anthy and the Perfect Yuri glanced at the girl as she began to lean forward, keeping her eyes on the screen. Eventually, the sound came to an end, and Ako took in another breath as she sat back.

B-Ko: "Fine... I'll stop by for a cupcake, okay?"
Sayori: "Yes! Let's go~!"
*Scene changes to the hallway.*
And thus, today marks the day I sold my soul for a cupcake.

"Quite the Faustian bargain you found yourself in." The Perfect Yuri stated.

I dejectedly follow Sayori across the school and upstairs - a section of the school I rarely visit, being generally used for third-year classes and activities.

"Wait, that reminds me," Ako began as her eyes widened. "I never actually finished my education. I'm a high school dropout now."

"You turned down a diploma in favor of traveling the world." The Perfect Yuri chuckled.

"How's that been going, by the way?" Anthy asked.

"Oh, it's been lovely." Ako answered. "I met this really nice blue woman whose eyes turn into words sometimes. When she told me I was one of her favorite people, her face said, 'lmao.'"

Sayori, full of energy, swings open the classroom door.

"Just imagine what it would be like if someone was on the other side of it." The Perfect Yuri chuckled.

"'I'm gonna go get a soda,'" Anthy began in an imitation of Natsuki. "'You guys want any-' SLAM!"

*Scene changes to the clubroom.*
Sayori: "Everyone! The new member is here~!"
B-Ko: "I told you, don't call me a 'new member-'"
Eh? I glance around the room
Yuri: "Welcome to the Literature Club. It's a pleasure meeting you."

"Hello again, Yuri." Ako greeted.

Yuri: "Sayori always says nice things about you."

"And the longer I spend getting to know this character, the less I understand why." Ako stated.

Natsuki: "Seriously? You brought a boy?"

"Wait, this game's main character is a boy?" Ako asked.

"Well, yeah, it's a romance visual novel." The Perfect Yuri stated. "Or at least, it pretends to be one."

"But I thought all the girls were lesbians?" Ako said.

Silence hung over the three before The Perfect Yuri turned back to the camera. "And that concludes this video, everyone! Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe! Be sure to check out part two of our Let's Play, coming out June Never!"

For those of you who don't know, the characters in this chapter are from a Doki Doki Literature Club fan-comic on Tumblr called Doki Doki Literature Girls. If you haven't seen it, you should check it out. There's no better time than now to get into it, it just finished its last arc and epilogue last month.

I was hoping to make the header at the top the title of the chapter, but apparently, chapter titles have a character limit.
