Sup y'all. Nother chapter. Filler Chapter and is supremely boring, but next chapter should be interesting. Maybe. Anyways, words no one reads are below. Thanks for reading them if you do ;)
"KENSI!" I groan rolling over and cuddling with the body pillow that lies between me and the ice-cold wall. Not that temperature has a whole lot of effect on me.
"What?" I groan, my voice muffled by the pillow. I'm so tired. I think I died a little.
I hear my sister's light footfalls as she approaches my bedroom door. She pushes it open slightly with her knee. "The elders are here to talk to us. They want a play-by-play of Morrow's killing. Supposedly Morrow's a vamp that they've been after for a while. Brady recognized the smell of Morrow on you when he talked to you."
I groan, inhaling sharply. I can pick up the smell of werewolves.
"Are the wolves here? It smells like it."
"They are." My sister finally admits. I sigh.
"Paul?" I brace myself for the answer.
"Nope. Border patrol I assume. I didn't ask Sam. Sam and one of his friends are the only ones here."
I nod sitting up in the tangled pile of blankets before nodding. "Got it. I'll be out in a minute. "What time is it?"
Dani looks at her phone. "A little past five."
"I only got four hours of sleep." I pout tripping over the blankets as I untangle myself. I pull on a pair of jeans over my spandex I wore to bed, and then swap out my long sleeve shirt for a different long sleeve. It's soft between my fingers and clings to my form. It's a warm up jersey from basketball but I sure as hell don't care.
I drag a brush through my dark locks pulling it to the side in a low braid. I walk out with a pair of socks in my teeth.
"Sorry to wake you up." Billy apologizes with his warm smile. I drop the socks onto the counter as I grab a piece of gum for my stale breath.
I shoot one back at him. "Make no mistake Billy, I'm going into a coma tomorrow."
"Soon as we replace the couch." Dani grumbles kicking it roughly. I hear the wood I side the frame splinter as I pull on my socks.
"Dani. You broke it. That's going to complicate the process of getting that monstrosity out the door."
Old Quil laughs quietly. "My history may be a little off but I believe the house was built around that couch."
"I can send a few of the pack over." Sam offers. His eyes are warm and gentle, hoping to help somewhere. "We do owe you both for Morrow."
I shrug. "Not necessary Sam."
Sam smirks. "Can't believe you two hooligans killed a vampire. How did you do it?"
I raise my eyebrows and look at the three elders in my living room. Sue bites her lip while Billy sighs. Quil remains neutral.
"How did you convince him we killed the vamp without telling him how?" I ask the trio.
"We promised him an explanation from you." Billy says bashfully.
"No." Dani whispers. Within seconds she's clutching my wrist tightly in her grip, pouring her thoughts onto me forcefully.
Paul can't know! Dani cries in my head.
"Fuck Paul, Dani." I growl.
Sam laughs. "Are you one two notches in Paul's bedpost?"
Dani looks ready to cry.
"You've never seen us in Paul's mind before when you're phased?" I ask Sam.
Sam's eyes widen. "How do you know?" He looks at the elders. "How does she know?"
I sigh sitting down on the counter. "Well she can smell the werewolf all over you. Besides, we figured it out after Paul kicked us out of the house after Dad died. He smelt like a werewolf, he ate like a werewolf, had a temper like a werewolf, hung out with people who smelled like werewolves. He was a werewolf." I explain.
Sam is silent. "How do you know Paul?"
"Ask Paul?" Dani says. "But we will tell you that we inherited a gene from our mother like you werewolves inherit the werewolf gene from your fathers. And that gene allows both of us to control the four elements."
"Fire, water, earth and wind." I explain. "Morrow believed that I controlled only water and wind while Dani could control both Fire and Earth. He's wrong obviously, and we can control all four, both of us can."
"And because of our abilities, we can heal rapidly. Through the fire and water we can regenerate cells quickly by converting fire and water into energy. Aids cell reproduction." I explain tossing a knife from the butcher block behind me to Dani. She snags the hilt out of the air and slices her palm open. The scent of Elemental blood fills the air as her blood drips down her arm. But within mere seconds the wound heals itself.
I clear my through to divert Sam's attention back to me. "And we can heal others using water and heat in the form of energy as well."
"How did you know about werewolves period?" Sam asks.
I sigh. "Paul kicked us out and we had no choice but to turn to our father. Our father who also happened to be a werewolf."
Dani growls angrily. "Anyways, werewolves are magnets for vampires, so our father had no choice but to train us how to defend ourselves against vamps."
I sigh. "And in the training process, our mother's elemental gene was awaken and we learned how to use our abilities. Dani and I hear better than wolves because the wind carries noise, and we're as fast as the speed of light because of our fire powers. This, in addition to sensing vibrations through the ground, flying by controlling the wind, and being able to smell really well on account of the air carrying scent, we quickly became a devastating duo when fighting vamps."
Sam is quiet. "You look for a fight?"
I shrug. "Not always. If they make the headlines we go after them. If there's nothing noteworthy about them then we don't. If we casually come across vampires while hunting or training for fun then why not?"
Sam takes a deep breath. "Morrow had bugged us here for a while but the Cullens convinced him to take a hike. A blow to our ego, but we were glad he was gone. Morrow popped in just to make sure we didn't forget about him, but never stuck around to get dead before."
Dani nods. "We found the bastard inside of an illegal genetic research program that was being investigated by the CIA. We rescued their subjects, the human ones at least, and Morrow did the rest by killing all the surviving employees. Feeding frenzy."
I swear softly. "Dani and I didn't get there soon enough to stop it though, we got there soon enough to bring the building down and set it ablaze while we killed Morrow."
"How?" Sam asks. "No offense but…"
"After seeing us in action he was scared." Dani smirks.
"Don't get cocky." I smirk back. "But he was terrified and then we chopped his head off and lit him on fire. That made it easier."
Dani shrugs, not wanting me to take the high road here.
"How do you know Paul?" Sam asks.
Dani shakes her head as the first few tears fall.
"Dani." I start. She shakes her head. "I'm going out. Come find me when he's done interrogating us about Paul."
I sigh. "Dani, you know Paul's track record. He's hid us from his memories while phased, and as a result, the first natural reaction is to assume we're…" I glance at Sam. "Another notch on his bedpost."
"You're not?" Sam asks.
"Did you even grow up here!?" Dani growls in anger. "You were a few years older, I get that but everyone knows everyone and everything!" She tosses her hands up in anger. "I'm going for a run before I accidentally ice the house."
Dani doesn't quite have the handle on her emotions that I do.
"Paul and you both…"
"Look, Sam. Just show Paul the memory, and then he won't be able to hide it anymore. I honestly don't know how he kept it from you. But I refuse to claim him after what he did to us, and it's clear he has no connection to us either. I'm not saying anything else on the matter."
"But-" Sue cuts Sam off.
"Sam." She says gently. "Leave the girls alone about him. Alright? You're here for professional gain, to learn about their powers, abilities, and how they killed Morrow. Dani and Kensi already explained to you their abilities, how they got them, and how they learned."
Sam sighs. "They get their abilities through their mother's genes, and their father trained them when they moved in with him. Their father, being a lone werewolf, drew in all kinds of vamps, and he had no choice but to train his daughters. In the process, he awoke their dormant gene and then they were trained on how to use their powers safely."
"Yes. Questions answered. Anything else?" I ask.
"Why did you move in with your father, or at least stay with him after you knew he was a werewolf?" Sam asks.
I take a few steps close to the Alpha shapeshifter, knowing that no matter how badly I manage to piss him off, there's nothing Sam can do to hurt me. Not permanently anyways. Side note: wonder if Paul would be mad if Sam tried to hurt me.
"Listen Uley." I start. "You've been inside Paul's gross and whorish head so you know the shit he thinks about. Now imagine sharing a wall with his bedroom, and hearing him and whatever unfortunate girl he's got in there with him at the oddest hours of the night. Drunk mother, Sam. She doesn't care who the hell Paul brought home as long as she had her alcohol. And absent father, there was no one to take care of us. Paul brought home whomever he wanted to, and did whatever he wanted with them, no matter what the time. It's disgusting to think about, because I lived with that monster. And when I asked that he at least keep it down, keep the noise to a minimum, the jackass told me to mind my own business!"
Sam doesn't budge as I take another step closer.
"My brother is the whore. He's the manslut that the girl at school gossiped about. And yet somehow, I was in the wrong when I asked him to keep his sex life on his side of the wall, and not make it so the whole damn house could hear him. It's my bad when I asked him to keep it down. It was my bad when I wanted peace and quiet. And he kicked me out. He kicked two thirteen year olds out of his mother's house. Told us to pack our bags and leave."
I growl at Sam. "Now you tell me how you feel about Paul."
Sam swallows and looks at me. "I didn't know."
"No shit, Sam. You want to know about Paul, unearth his secrets, ask him why he did it? Ask him if he really didn't want his own fucking blood in the house anymore? Ask him if he really prioritized his victims over his baby sisters or if he made a mistake? Ask him Sam! Ask him! And when you get an answer, don't come tell me because no matter what you say, no matter what he says, I can never forgive him."
I shove past Sam and pull the door open and walk down the front porch to the ramp and slide down the icy-slicked stairs in my socks. The cold rain soaks into my socks as I take off at a run across the gravel to my car. I get in, and fish the keys out of the console before starting it.
The speed that thrums through my body makes me feel a little better. But nothing will compare to punching Paul Lahote right in the nose and watching it really hurt.
"You know." I say softly. "We typically tend to avoid the topic of Paul while here."
Dani sighs. "I really thought that there might have still been our brother that we loved and knew in there. But… why did he hide us? Was he ashamed of us?"
"He's probably ashamed of himself." I amend. "I mean, you know Jacob has sisters. Seth and Leah are siblings. Paul probably knows that the whole damn pack would light him up for what he did to us."
Dani shrugs. "I'd like to know both sides. I'm sure Paul doesn't know why dad left. I'm sure Paul doesn't understand it either. Paul doesn't know the sacrifices that Dad made specifically for him. And we don't know Paul's true reason for kicking us out."
I scowl. "You hope it wasn't for privacy?"
"You do?" She retorts.
"I don't know if I can stomach something else. It's probably worse." I admit. "I mean, the second time I can understand. We were sophomores when we came back, and that would've meant that Paul was a senior. Petty me wants to think he didn't want his baby sisters raining on his senior year, but another part also knows that he'd just phased around that same time, and that he probably didn't want us there. Assuming he cared about us at that point. Who knows, he might not have."
Dani shrugs. "I don't know. I'd like to know if privacy is his reasoning."
I sigh. "Paul doesn't know the whole story, and nor do we. Filing in the blanks with assumptions won't work, that's very bad. And that's probably making things worse. Maybe if we talked about things…"
"It won't work." Dani mutters. "How many times have you tried to talk to Paul? Over money. He told you that he'd take the money, but he doesn't want anything to do with us." Dani points out. And I just sigh. I mean, what else can I do at this point? I feel so useless. I want my brother back. I'm nineteen now.
"Dad left Paul with the same inheritance he did with us." I point out. "And we can't even get it to him."
Dani laughs humorlessly. "If someone looks at our bank records if we die anytime soon, they're going to be real disappointed with our sucky backstory."
I shrug. She's got a point.
"I don't know. I won't use his money. Ever." I say plainly.
Dani nods before plopping down on one of the couches. After some serious debate, we decided to go furniture shopping and just straight up regular shopping for a distraction. Which evolved into an everyone-talk-shit-about-Paul fest.
"I like this one." Dani says.
I plop down next to her looking at my twin. I literally have no idea what I'd do without her. We've never not been together before. If we had to start now, I think a piece of me would die with her.
"Does it feel like something I'd sleep on?" I ask.
"It's a sectional, a gray one that matches our living room perfectly, and would fit. It's within our budget too." Dani teases.
"Oh yeah, because I'm really worried about the price tag. I drive a personalized Camaro that I designed to look and drive and operate exactly like a car in a movie, Dani. Money isn't an object."
Dani howls in laughter as she stands up. I follow suit, laughing.
"I'll order it online tomorrow. They can deliver it."
Approaching footsteps and Sam's scent hits me.
"I can loan you my truck." He offers.
Dani winces and turns around. Beside Sam is a beautiful woman. Three scars, left by Sam, mar her beautiful features.
"Emily, right?" I ask as Dani looks to the side, her temper fizzling.
"Yeah. You are?" She asks.
"I'm Kensi and this is my twin Dani." I say pointing behind me. "And thanks for the offer, Sam, really. But we're just going to dump it on the curb…"
Sam smiles. "Sorry. But actually… the shop could use a couch. Dump it on your curb and I'll send someone after it."
I burst out laughing. "Fine, Sam. As long as Paul doesn't come near me or my sister, you can take my couch."
Sam smirks. "Thank you. I appreciate it. We can be there… nine tomorrow?"
I nod. "I'll have my dead sister alive by then, and hopefully she won't still be in zombie mode." Dani scoffs because we both know I'm the night owl, and definitely not a morning person while she's the opposite.
Sam nods. "And… why don't you go ahead and order the couch now, we can lend you our truck again to put it in."
I look at Sam for a few seconds. "Sam, why are you offering?"
"We owe you big time, you and your sister Kensi." Sam says. "You did end up saving our pride by taking out Morrow."
Emily smiles. "And pride is a huge thing with them."
I smile at the imprint. "Pride is a Dani and Kensi thing too." I reply. "And we've been playing with Morrow for far too long."
"Playing?" Emily asks.
I swallow and don't look at Sam. He can tell her what he wants, but from what Billy's told me, his daughter being an imprint, the wolves are selective with what their loved ones know.
"As a rule, we give them hell right back." I assure Emily.
Emily seems to accept that.
"Order your couch." Sam says. "And we'll be there."
"Who is 'we?" I ask.
Sam sighs. "Embry, and Jake, I'll bring them with me in the morning."
I nod. "I'll be pissed if Paul shows up and I will not hesitate to ice his ass." I threaten.
Sam sighs.
"Have you phased with him yet?" I ask Sam.
"No." He answer slowly.
"Well then come talk to me after that." I answer.
"Order the couch!" Sam calls.
I narrow my eyes. "Why are you helping again?"
"It's La Push, Kensi!" Sam laughs. "We help each other out!"
I glance at Dani behind me. "Suppose that changed since he kicked us out."
Dani snorts humorlessly. "We'll order the couch Sam. No promises when it'll be something that we can pick up?"
"Well let me know when it is." Sam says with a nod. "You can find me at Emily's."
I nod. "We'll find you. And make sure you know."
Sam smiles. "Nine AM tomorrow."
I nod as Dani and I walk over to a sale's rep to order the couch.
