Night fell slowly as the sun's rays barely illuminated the dense forest full of shadows and terror. Fear was felt in the air, which no more than a day ago, smelled like flowers and vegetation.
A dark brown cat came out of a tree holding a fur ball, crying. He looked back with frightened eyes, alerted and shouted cautiously.
-Sunset Fur ...?!
At just a few fox lengths a pastel orange cat stepped, with a paw and the tip of its tail dark red, she could barely stand. She looked at the brown cat with its penetrating green eyes.
-I haven't gotten into the rhythm yet, the cat tried to speak, with a redheaded kit, in her mouth.
-I would have been surprised if you had been! Another voice was heard and two more cats jumped out of a bush. You gave birth 6 days ago!
The one who spoke earlier is a cat older than the others, with bright red fur that has a sand-colored spot on her chest and ears. The kit she was holding in her mouth was white as snow and the poor little fur ball was crying with fatigue. The second cat is the same age as the two earlier. It has a light orange fur with light orange stripes and carries a kit with orange fur, which has a brown spot on the right hind paw.
They all headed to the two-legs town. There were only a few more rays of sunshine and by the time they reached a fence near the two-legs nest, the sun had already set. Each cat left the fur ball they were holding on the grass next to the fence
-Phoenix Star, are you sure this is a good idea? Sunset Fur asked.
The cat was lost in her thought for a few minutes and then spoke in a tone that could indicate her sadness:
-I'm sure⦠. Phoenix Star answered without looking the sorrowful mother in the eye. You are my daughter, i would never do something to hurt you or our kin.
Sunset Fur sat next to her cubs knowing that this might be their last moment together. She sat on the wet moss. The brown cat came in their direction. His face was expressionless, but his eyes gave away the sadness of his heart.
-Nutmeg Claw, this is the best and most correct thing to do, I'm sure your kits will survive! The golden cat intervened, taking a step forward.
-At the moment, all we can do is pray to the Star Clan, Burning Cloud. And after all that said, the cat went to spend a few final moments with the kits that he most likely would never see again.
Sunset Fur and Nutmeg Claw left their kits with difficulty, but the fact that they did what was best for everyone helped them move on.
-I promise you that we will find each other one day, Sunset Fur whispered to the little fur balls, hesitating at first to leave them.
The 4 cats went back into the thick forest, trying to walk as fast as possible so they won't hear the cries of hunger and fear of their little ones. The air that ran through the forest, where fear reigned, was entangled with something else ... with a smell that no cat could confuse ... after you once sniffed it ... the smell of blood, it was impossible to forget ...
