Chapter 3: Toying Around

Sora integrated well into You Show's dynamic, and by the end of the hour he was officially a student. At the moment, Skip was going over the basics of dueling, much to their frustration. There was covering the basics, and then there were...

"You know, back in my day, we could draw on the first turn! Of course, the landscape was a little different. Now, onto the Standby Phase, an often overlooked phase in my opinion..."

Just then, the alarm sounded, much to their relief. Skip snapped out of his trance and shut if off.

"Aw man, did I take up our lesson talking about the good old days again?"

"YES!"

"Ah well, another time. Alright, now its our duel hour, and since we have a new student its only fair that he takes part."

Sora grinned wickedly, eyeing the others cautiously.

"I choose...Yuya! Show me what you've got?"

"Alright, but I won't go easy on you."

"That's alright, neither will I!"

After a few minutes, both Yuya and Sora were on the court and ready for action while Skip set it up.

"Alright, I activate the field spell Wildest West!"

Sora watched in awe as the Action field emerged, transforming their surroundings into an old west town. A tumbleweed even bounced across the set.

"Wow! This is so awesome!"

"What's the matter, never been in an Action Duel before?"

"Nope! They don't have them where I'm from."

"Well then, get ready for a big surprise!"

DUEL!

Sora: 4000

Yuya: 4000

"Since you're the new kid, why don't you go first? Show us what you've got!"

"With pleasure! To start, I summon my Fluffal Penguin (1600/1100) in attack mode! And thanks to his special ability, I can special summon a Fluffal monster from my hand one time, so come on out Fluffal Bear (1200/800)! I set one card face down and end my turn."

"Aw, its so fluffy!"

Sora chuckled at Ally's cooing over his monsters.

"Not too bad, Sora, but now it's my turn! And to start, I summon Performapal Friendonkey (1600/600)! And when I normal summon him, I can bring another level 4 or lower Performapal to the field to join the fun, and I choose Performapal Silver Claw (1800/700) in attack mode!"

"Uh oh. This isn't looking good."

"You're right, its not. Not looking good for you, that is! Performapal Silver Claw, take out his Penguin! And when Silver Claw declares an attack, all Performapal monsters gain 300 attack until the end of the battle phase (1800-2100) (1600-1900)!"

Sora watched in horror as Yuya's wolf slashed his penguin to bits, the blowback pushing him back slightly.

Sora: 3500

"That attack...it felt so real..."

"That's the beauty of Action Duels! Friendonkey, take out his teddy bear!"

Yuya's donkey charged at Sora's monster before bucking it hard with its hind legs, sending it flying into a water trough.

Sora: 2800

"I activate the trap card, Fluffal Crane! Not only do I get to add Bear back to my hand, but I also get to draw one card. You're pretty good, Yuya, but I'm not out yet!"

"Glad to hear it. I set one card face down and end my turn. Your move!"

Yuya hopped onto Silver Claw's back and took off, leaving Sora to make his play.

"Alright Yuya, no more playing around! I activate the spell card Fusion Conscription! Now by revealing Frightfur Bear in my Extra deck, I can add Edge Imp Sabres to my hand!"

Yuya gasped in shock.

"You can Fusion Summon?"

"Sure can. I activate the spell card Polymerization, fusing Edge Imp Sabres with Fluffal Bear to fusion summon Frightfur Bear (2200/1800) in attack mode! And the fun doesn't stop there, because now I activate the spell card Toy Parade! Now for every card equipped to Frigtfur Bear, he can attack an equal number of times this turn!"

"Huh? But he doesn't have any cards equipped to him."

"Wait and see. But for now, I'm gonna have him attack your donkey!"

The demonic toy pounced, swallowing the circus animal with one gulp, causing Yuya to flinch

Yuya: 3400

"And now Frightfur Bear's effect activates! When he destroys a monster in battle and sends it to the graveyard, he can equip it to himself and gain 1000 attack points (2200-3200). And don't forget, thanks to Toy Parade he can attack again!"

Sora's bear loomed over Yuya, ready to devour his mount. Out of the corner of his eye, Yuya spotted an Action card and grabbed it.

"I activate the action card Evasion! This card cancels out your attack."

"Action cards, huh? Let me give that a try."

Spotting a card atop the saloon's roof, Sora leapt up and grabbed it, quickly inserting it into his Duel Disk.

"I activate my own Action Card, No Action! This card cancels out your Evasion."

"What?!"

Yuya quickly dismounted and ducked for cover as his wolf got gobbled up like an all you can eat buffet.

Yuya: 2000

"Now Fluffal Penguin, attack him directly!"

"Not so fast! I activate my trap card, Performapal Pinch Helper! Now not only is your attack negated, but I can special summon a Performapal from my deck with its effects negated, so come on out Performapal Kaledioscorp (100/2300) in defense mode!"

A colorful scorpion appeared from the trap card, creating a barrier which repelled Sora's bird.

"Not bad, Yuya. I set one card face down and end my turn."

You fought well, Yuya, but your toast. If you destroy either of my monsters, my Michizure will destroy one of yours, and next turn I'll bring out the big guns!

"Sorry Sora, but this duel is over! First, I tribute my Kalediscorp to summon Performapal Elephammer (2600/1800)! Next, I set the pendulum scale with the scale 1 Odd Eyes Persona Dragon and the Scale 8 Odd Eyes Mirage Dragon!"

"Going for Odd Eyes, again?"

"Now what kind of dueltainer would I be if I always went for the same play? I Pendulum Summon Performapal King Bear (2200/1000), and from my extra deck Performapal Silver Claw! Now its time for battle! Elephammer, take out his demon toy!"

"What? But my Bear has more attack points!"

"Not for long! When Elephammer attacks, I can bounce all spells and trap cards back to their owner's hands."

"No way!"

Elephammer slammed its trunk into the hard ground, shooting all spell and trap cards back into the duelists' hands (3200-2200) before picking up the bear and slamming it down as well, smashing it into pieces.

Sora: 2400

"Now King Bear, take out his Penguin! And for every Performapal card I control, he gains 100 attack points during the battle phase (2200-2500)."

Yuya's royal bear slashed away at Sora's penguin, causing him to cringe slightly.

Sora: 1500

"Now Silver Claw, finish him off!"

Sora started to turn and find an action card, but Silver Claw was quicker, knocking him to the ground as his life points hit zero.

Sora: 0000

Yuya wins!

Despite his loss, Sora couldn't help but smile as Yuya helped him up.

"Good game, Yuya! Pendulum summoning really is something else."

"You too, Sora."

"Alright kids, that wraps it up for today. See you all tomorrow!"

Later that night, Sora slipped into an abandoned warehouse. It wasn't much, but it would suit his needs. After all, he didn't plan on staying here for long. After tapping a few buttons on his duel disk, an open line of communication was established.

"This is Sora to base. I've set up shop in Standard and have infiltrated the You Show Duel School."

"Excellent. And LDS?"

"If they're anything like the goons I met today, then we won't have anything to worry about."

"Excellent. Remember your objective."

"Right. Capture Yuya and Zuzu and return to Duel Academy."

"Excellent. God speed, soldier. Academy for life!"

"Academy for life!"
