I'll admit, I had nothing planned for this chapter and wasn't entirely sure where to go. I could focus on training, with Tanjiro and Nezuko, I could time skip to Final Exam, but I decided that since everyone essentially knows Tanjiro and Nezuko's backstory, it'd only make more sense if Lizzy got her backstory done!

Well, this isn't perfect, nor should it ever be. But still, please enjoy!

Chapter 6

Questions

Lizzy was sweeping the floor of the small cottage (if it could be called that though calling it a shed is more accurate) as Sakonji told her to when she heard someone enter through the front door, and she saw the Water Breathing Teacher standing before her, though his back was towards her as he closed the door. However, he then turned to look at her before sitting down close to the fire that Lizzy also was tending.

It was already winter, and Tanjiro and Nezuko were out in the cold for their training so they could withstand colder temperatures.

"Lizzy," Sakonji began as he stared at the fire, catching the Demon a little off guard. "I have a few questions I would like to ask you."

If she wasn't nervous, she was now, and put down the broom she was using before sitting on the other side of the fire. "What is it?"

"I simply wanted to ask a few questions concerning yourself," Sakonji replied, before looking her in the eyes and asking, "How did you become a Demon? What reason did you have for letting the previous Tamer tame you? What reason did you have for bothering to find the new Tamer?"

Lizzy tried to remember everything he said, before thinking back on her life.

Let's start at the beginning… How did she become a Demon?

They had just moved into their new home in Japan, somewhere in the countryside, and Lizzy was happy about it. It was close to a town and everyone seemed nice in the small town too.

Lizzy was told she would need to work to help her family and she was already prepared for it. She found a flower shop she would want to work at while they were moving and saw this as a chance to make the bouquet of flowers she wanted to give to her father.

She never got the chance.

Late at night, Lizzy awoke to hear screaming coming from downstairs, and her heart was already pounding. Burglars were already attacking them?! Lizzy looked around and hid in her closet so they would probably look over her and leave her be.

Father was dead. He had to be!

Mother was gone as well, she was the one screaming.

She heard footsteps entering the room and tried to breathe more quietly. She wanted to leave alive. Not dead. She didn't want to die! Lizzy still had so much to do!

The closet door began to open slowly as the smell of blood found its way to her nose and her heart hurt like it had been stomped on by a horse.

She was staring at the eyes of the murder, the blood red pupils seemingly cutting through the darkness.

The man hummed, and then said, "I'll turn you." And then after she felt her neck get slit open, she passed out.

"So Muzan murdered your family as you all moved into your new house?" Sakonji recalled based on her testimony.

Lizzy nodded. "The rest was a bit blurry afterwards… but… I'm not sure what exactly happened. I'm not sure if I… ate, my parents, or if I just left."

"Well, that is fair enough," Sakonji said. "Now, my next question…"

Right… why did she let the previous Tamer tame her?

She felt tired as she sat in the cave she made as her home while she was a Demon. It was easy for her to hide with the many different areas inside, and it went unbearably deep. She spent many months trying to figure out the layout of the place, and it didn't help that she also had to eat every so often too.

It also didn't help that she explored everywhere, memorized the locations, and ran out of things to do, again.

Lizzy groaned as she walked to the entrance of her home and looked out, seeing it was finally night, and proceeding to walk out. She needed something to eat…

And because she wanted to, she grabbed fruit that she found on a tree and took a bite out of it…

Terrible…

Just like always.

Lizzy's stomach growled. "Ugh…" Lizzy groaned as she threw the apple away. "This sucks…" She leaned against the tree and wanted to lay here until the sun came up.

She always felt like this though, and never followed through.

Lizzy heard something in the bushes behind her, and turned around. She sighed, not fully caring if it was an animal and continued to walk to the village. Maybe she should start decorating the cave and cleaning it up just so she has something to do. "That would be a fun idea," she said aloud to herself. "Maybe I could see if there are any plants that grow in caves. Do flowers grow in caves?"

"That's a good question," a voice right next to her said, making her jump before she saw the person in question. How'd he get there?! "But to answer it, no, they can only grow at the entrance. Other things like mushrooms you'd be better off trying to do."

"Wh-Who the hell even are you?!" Lizzy questioned, baring her teeth, reading to pounce and kill the man as one of her meals. She didn't like to kill people, but she did kill criminals just to ensure the town was a bit safer. Even if it's wrong, it's still good.

"A man with an offer for you, a Demon," the man said.

Lizzy was rattled and knew this was one of those Demon Slayers. She was about to run, before the man said calmly, "Is running all you're going to do? You've run away a lot, judging by the fact you look young. Your parents are probably dead, and you also must've eaten them too. It was most likely an accident, judging from how Muzan loves to torture people for fun, especially by using people close to the victim and who they are is irrelevant. But you've tried to do good, judging by the bodies of the criminals we've found. You want to do good, but as a Demon, you can only do so much."

Lizzy looked at the man again. Who was he?! "What… what are you saying?"

"You want to be closer to being Human?" The man asked. "Do you want to not fear the blade of a Slayer, or the feeling of burning in the sunlight?" He held out a hand towards her. "Come with me and forge a contract, that way you can help end the pain that countless other Demons are forced to meet because of Muzan, and so we can end this war."

Lizzy realized what this meant.

Flowers.

She accepted, and left the cave, never to return.

"So if Demons eat normal food, it simply tastes disgusting?" Sakonji stated. "Makes sense with what we assumed."

"I visited my parents grave a few days later, and I gave my father the flowers he deserved for all the work he's put into making the carts and wagons he'd sell," Lizzy said.

"You cared a lot for them," Sakonji stated.

"I miss them," Lizzy replied, blinking back the tears she felt coming, knowing that crying wouldn't bring them back.

"My last question," Sakonji reminded her. "Why did you go find Tanjiro, even though it was highly possible that you would never find another Demon Tamer. What was your motive behind that?"

Lizzy's heart was pounding as she remembered her words.

"It would do you some good to listen, Lizzy," she told the Portal Demon, who laid on the floor after getting a punch to the face from her. "Go look for the master. Or else you'll find me as more than just some pretty face in a kimono." Lizzy felt her grab her neck and lift her up. "Now go. You'll only cause more unnecessary problems and both of us don't want to deal with that."

"Lizzy! Snap out of it!" Sakonji told her as Lizzy had her hands over her ears and she was shaking, with a look of despair, fear, and pain all mixed together on her face, now fully crying while muttering, "I can't let that happen. I can't let that happen."

"Listen to me!" Sakonji yelled at her, which brought her out of her stupor. "You're alright. Okay? Nothing is going to happen." After Lizzy calmed down, Sakonji sat next to her, and asked, "Why did you look for Tanjiro?"

Lizzy looked at the ground, before looking at Sakonji and saying, "Because of her."

I needed a filler chapter, and I wanted to expand a little on Lizzy's character. And she likes purple flowers specifically, for those who were wondering.

In any case, the Female Demon sounds like a threat, and to put it bluntly… Tanjiro is fucked if they were to fight it out. For more than one reason.

Stay tuned! Some afterthoughts are going to appear in the next chapter!
