Chapter 30: Blazing Rematch
Gong wiped sweat from his forehead as he trudged through the volcano area, checking his collection of Pendulumstatues.
"Only three so far. Man, Gong's itching for some action!"
"Be careful what you wish for, big brows! You may just get it."
Gong turned around to find Kit Blade standing behind him, a wild grin on his face.
"Fancy a duel? I've got three, so how about we each bet two? That way we'll both still be in the tournament regardless of who wins."
Gong smiled.
"You're on! Time for the student to become the master."
"We'll see about that."
DUEL!
Gong: 8000
Kit: 8000
"Gong will go first. Gong sets one monster face down and ends his turn."
"Not one for a big start, huh? Guess it's up to me to pick up the slack, and I'll start with someone you may remember from out first duel, XX-Saber Boggart Knight! And thanks to his special effect, I can special summon X-Saber Palomuro (200/300)! And with two X-Sabers on the field, I can call out XX-Saber Faultroll!"
"Gong's got a bad feeling about this."
"Your feelings are right, because now my level 1 Palomuro tunes with level 4 Boggart Knight to bring out X-Saber Wayne (2100/400)! And when he's Synchro Summoned, I can special summon a level 4 or lower Warrior from my hand, like my X-Saber Fulhelm Knight! Now Fulhelm Knight tunes with Wayne in order to Synchro Summon Colossal Fighter (2800/1000)! And for every Warrior in our graveyards, he gains 100 attack (2800-3000). Next, Faultroll will revive Fulhelm Knight so that he can give him a tune up and Synchro Summon XX-Saber Gottoms (2900-3100)!"
Gong remained silent as the two powerful Synchro Monsters stared him down. He was in for a wild ride.
"Scared? You should be. Gottoms, attack his face down monster!"
The futuristic swordsman slashed at the hidden monster, revealing it to be Blue Brawler who easily deflected the blade.
"Sorry, but Blue Brawler can't be destroyed by battle."
"A defensive wall, huh? Not bad, but it'll take more than that to beat me. I set two cards face down and end my turn."
"Alright Kit, time to kick things up a notch. Gong summon Superheavy Samurai Flutist (500/1000)! But he won't be sticking around for long, because by tributing him Gong can special summon Superheavy Samurai Big Benkei from my hand!"
"Big whoop."
"Don't you mean big whooping? I'll equip my Benkei with Superheavy Samurai Soulshield Wall and Superheavy Samurai Soulhorns! Soulshield Wall gives him 1200 attack points, while Soulhorns lets him attack twice. Superheavy Samurai Big Benkei, take out his Gottoms!"
Big Benkei slammed his fist into the ground, summoning a large wall of fire that burned Gottoms to a crisp.
Kit: 6400
"And let's not leave Colossal Fighter out of it. Big Benkei, attack his other monster!"
This time Big Benkei ran at his enemy, briefly grappling with the massive beast before punching him so hard he exploded, forcing Kit to shield himself from the blast.
Kit: 4800
Then, much to Gong's surprise, the pixels reformed back into the monster.
"Surprised? When you destroy my Colossal Fighter in battle, I can special summon a Warrior from either graveyard, including himself!"
"Hmm, not bad. Gong ends his turn."
"Then its my turn. I draw! First, I activate Card of Sanctity to give us both a new hand."
Kit grinned like a madman when he saw what cards he had drawn. He couldn't ask for a better hand.
"Oh, you're going down! First, I summon XX-Saber Ragigura, and since he was summoned I can take Faultroll from my graveyard and add him to my hand. Next, I activate the trap card Gottoms's Second Calling, bringing back Fulhelm Knight and Gottoms himself! Next, I'll special summon Faultroll once more, and use his effect to bring back Wayne! Now, I tune X-Saber Fulhelm Knight, Ragigura, andFaultroll together to create Ascension Sky Dragon (?/3000)!"
"Where are its attack points?"
"Good question. See, for every card in my hand when she's Synchro Summoned, she gain 800 attack points (?-4000)."
"Impressive, but my Benkei is still stronger."
"You don't think I know that? I activate Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy your Soulshield Wall, cutting your Big Benkei down to size (4700-3500). Next, I activate my other face down, Meteor Rain, giving all of my monsters the ability to deal piercing damage this turn. Lastly, I activate the field spell Saber Vault, giving all X-Sabers attack equal to their level X100 (3100-4000) (2100-2600)."
"Uh oh."
"Uh oh is right, because you're about to be in for some major damage! Now my monsters, attack his Blue Brawler!"
Gong braced himself as his monster was barraged by an array of attacks. Sky Dragon assaulted them with a breath attack, Colossal Fighter punched the robot super hard, Gottoms slashed at him with his massive sword, while Wayne ripped it apart with his bullets. Although his monster stood firm, Gong's life points were reaching the red.
Gong: 8000-6000- 4800-2800-2200
Gong panted heavily, grinning all the way.
"Having fun? So am I! I'll end my turn right there."
Gong may think he still has a chance, but next turn he's finished! I have Shield Crush waiting to destroy any monster he summons in defense mode, and then my remaining monsters can swoop in and wipe him out!
"Sorry Kit, but this duel is over! Gong summons Superheavy Samurai Drum (300/300). And he's a tuner, so I'll tune him with the level 8 Big Benkei to Synchro Summon Superheavy Samurai Beast Kyubi (1900/2500) in defense mode!"
"Nice monster, two bad he's a little lacking in the defense department?"
"Are you sure? See, for every special summoned monster on the field, he gains 900 defense points, and by my count you have 4!"
"What? But that means-"
"He gains 3600 defense points, more than enough to wipe you out (2500-6100), especially with another Soulhorns added on for good measure. Now Kyubi, take out his Wayne!"
The beast swung his massive staff around, using the rockets to propel himself forward and punch out the cowboy, shattering him into pixels.
Kit: 1300
"Now Kyubi, attack his Colossal Fighter and end this duel!"
Despite now being weaker, Gong's monster still had enough power to swing around and take out his equally massive opponent with a single strike of his staff, sending Kit flying from the backblast as his life points reached zero.
Kit: 0000
Gong wins!
Despite losing, and the massive headache he had received, Kit couldn't help but laugh as he accepted Gong's help up, handing over his Pendulumstatues.
"A deals a deal. Good game, Gong."
"Same here, Kit. I'll accept a match from you any time."
"You'd better watch out; cause I'm holding you to that promise!"
With that the two went their separate ways, looking forward to when they next fought.
