My Freedom is Floating Thirty Feet Away

Desmond had been running for a long time now. It was the only way he had ever known to relieve stress--to run. Something heavy had been lifting from his shoulders with every step he took. It was the weigh of the world. He no longer had to push the button and for once, he was outside. He looked around at the area he had come to and immediately recognized it. All of the burden that had left him, curled up into the pit of his stomach and weighed him down once more.

This was the place where Kelvin died.

At least that was the way he had been saying it in his head. Kelvin had died. He had not killed Kelvin. He was not a murderer. Desmond Davy Hume has never murdered another man.

Desmond carefully made his way around the rocks to the small cove where his boat was. The rock standing by the cove had a spot of blood on it and it distracted Desmond from reaching his boat. He peered down at the spot with much confusion in his eyes. Kelvin's body was gone. "Kelvin's not here," Desmond said to himself. He had learned to talk to himself and not be afraid of anyone overhearing. He had learned a lot of things while he was down in that cursed hatch.

The hostiles. If Desmond could remember one thing he had learned, it was the thing that scared him the most. Kelvin had always spoken of people who lived outside of the hatch. Desmond wondered if maybe they had taken his body.

Then, Des turned to the cove and the small, white ship resting in it. He smiled warmly at his boat, The Elizabeth, as if she were his home. Desmond couldn't tell if it was the bright beams of the sun or the happiness of the moment, but he felt a tear flee from his eye. Finally, he would be home. Finally, he could tell Penny he loved her and that he was still alive. The pure, white, glimmering boat was his ticket to freedom. All he had to do was get on board.

So why couldn't he?

He felt like he was forgetting something. And as a matter of fact, he was. Kelvin. If only Desmond could bring Kelvin with him. The man wanted a taste of freedom so badly that he had betrayed Desmond in order to get it. Now Desmond could see that. Now he could understand. Now. After he'd killed him.

Died. No. Kelvin has died.

Desmond turned back to the land. He could see no signs of life at all. He wondered desperately what the people from the plane crash were doing. Had they remembered the code? Had they fixed the computer?

The computer. Desmond could still hear it beeping in his head. Beep. Beep. Beep.

But if they didn't fix the computer, the whole world would blow. Desmond couldn't risk that. He wondered for a split second if he had stayed. Would he be able to help the bald man the girl fix the computer? Would he be able to help save the world?

But no. Desmond had already done his share saving the world. It was his chance for freedom. This was his time to be free. To go back home. To see Penny. So for Penny, he dove in.

Wow. You know what? This is really annoying me. Why isn't the little line/ruler thing working? Grrrr!

Anyways... I hoped you liked ANOTHER one of my attempts at a Desmond story. They're getting worse and worse by the minute! Once I have more material from LOST (yes that means more flashbacks and such) you'll be seeing a lot more Desmond stories from me.

Buy the season 2 disc set! Comes out September 5th and DESMOND'S on it!
