Ramandu's Delight

Ramandu's feet moved as fast as they could. He kicked up sand and didn't slow down when he splashed into the surf. He kept running till he lost balance and flopped.

Now, with each day that passed, Ramandu could feel his strength returning and felt a flood of youth surge back into his tired body. Instead of spending his days pondering grown up things and boring intellectual matters, he wanted to swim in the sea and play hide-n-seek. His mind began to think silly thoughts, and he longed for chocolate and strawberries and cream. And especially fireberries.

He swam out to deep water and floated on his back, gazing up at the evening sky. The stars were sneaking out against a black sky as the sun slid beneath the horizon. He waved up at his friends, and he was sure that they waved back.

Soon, he would grow young no longer. Soon he would return to his rightful place in the eastern sky, and once again fulfill a commission given to him by the Great Lion himself. Soon, he would spread his light to the farthest corners of this universe, just like he did before.

But he was most excited about looking down on his daughter, now Queen of Narnia, and seeing his grandchildren for the very first time.

Everyday his excitement grew. First like a spark, then a flicker, and now a raging forest fire. His time was short, and he couldn't be happier.
