Blushing
Harry had a hard time falling asleep. He was ecstatic about finally kissing Charlie and they were finally going to go on a date. He just couldn't force himself to go to sleep.
"Harry?"
"Yes cub?"
"Are you okay? Why are you still awake?" The tired boy asked.
"I'm okay. I just had too much caffeine. I'm sorry that I woke you." He lied.
"S'okay." He rolled over and fell back to sleep.
Harry smiled before he finally allowed sleep to claim him. He was also lucky that his dreams were tamed that night.
(Next morning)
Despite not getting enough sleep, Harry woke first and went downstairs. He began making breakfast. Charlie came down next.
Harry blushed. "Morning."
"Good morning." Charlie said with a smirk.
"Here is your coffee." He said.
"Thanks." He pecked Harry's lips.
"Y-you're welcome." Harry stuttered as his blush deepend. Charlie chuckled as he sat down. Harry cursed himself. He never blushed like this because of a kiss or someone he liked entering the room.
"You're cute when you blush." Charlie said.
Harry's face darkened because of that comment. He began to worry that he would be dizzy thanks to it.
"Shut up." Harry snapped as he tried to calm his face.
"No thanks."
"Hmph!"
"Cute."
"Seriously shut up!"
"Harry?" Teddy walked into the kitchen sleepily.
"Yes Teddy?"
"Mum called."
"What did she say?" He asked.
"That she and the others will be by later." He answered.
"Great. Sausage or bacon?"
"S-sausage." Yawned Teddy.
"Here you are."
"Thanks."
"Of course cub."
"Yummy!"
"Thank you."
"You're welcome. Can I have chocolate pancakes?" He asked.
"Of course."
"Yay!"
"Chocoholic." Harry said fondly.
"Oh Charlie?"
"Yes Teddy?"
"A woman called earlier and she said her name was Renee." He said.
"She's Bella's mother. When did she call? Did she tell you what she wanted?" He asked.
"She called around six thirty in the morning not realizing the time. She apologized and then she told me that she would be around at dinner time." He said.
"Okay."
"Did I do something wrong?" He asked.
"No."
"Okay."
"I'm just tired."
"Oh. Harry? Charlie needs more coffee."
"Okay." He gave Charlie a refill.
"Thanks."
"Of course." He turned and looked at his little brother. "I'll have dad pick you up from school, okay Teddy."
"Okay."
"Great."
"Can I have some milk Harry?"
"Of course." He handed him a glass of milk. "Oh, good morning Bella. Would you like anything for breakfast?"
"Morning. Sure….I guess."
"Eat up Bells."
"Okay dad."
"Afterwards we will go get you checked out."
"Okay."
"Harry?"
"Yeah?"
"Here is a spare key just in case." He handed it to Harry and let his fingers linger over Harry's for a few seconds before sitting back down.
"Oh um thanks so." He turned as he blushed. "What would you like to eat Bella?"
"Scrambled eggs and toast are fine."
"Alright. Coming right up." He put the bread in the toaster before making the eggs. As they cooked he looked at his brother. "Teddy, would you like more sausage?"
"Yes please."
Harry placed the sausage on his plate before he put the eggs on another plate and buttered the toast. He then gave the plate to Bella.
"Here you are."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome. Charlie, would you like more bacon?"
If you don't mind." He placed the bacon on Charlie's plate then looked at Bella. "Anything to drink Bella?"
"Just orange juice."
"You got it." He poured her a glass. "Here you are."
Bella smiled before she realized something. "Harry?"
"Yes Bella?"
"If you are a guest why are you cooking?" She asked.
"Two reasons." He held up two fingers before he began making himself some pancakes.
"We've seen your dad cook." Teddy said.
"Hey!" The man pretended to be offended but he knew it was true.
"Good point." Bella agreed.
"Bells!" He glared at her daughter.
"Reason two?" She asked as she ignored the glare sent her way.
"I love cooking for others." He said.
"Well you are good at it." She complimented.
"I know. After your appointment, come by the bakery and I'll give you a taste of my baking skills." He said.
"Ego." Teddy coughed.
"Brat."
"But you love me."
Harry raised an eyebrow at her. "Do I?"
"Yes you do."
"Whatever. Finish getting ready."
"Okay." He quickly finished eating before he left to go get ready.
"Brothers." He muttered causing the other occupants to laugh.
"Heard that!" Teddy yelled.
"I don't hear you getting ready."
"Ugh! I'm going."
"Good." Soon the two left.
Bella blinked. "That was interesting."
"Always is."
"I bet."
"Ready to go?"
"Yeah."
"Great."
They went to the hospital. Charlie and Bella were met by Carlisle.
"This is a surprise. How can I help you both?" He asked.
Charlie explained the situation. "Can you look at her?"
"Of course I can."
"Great. See you when it's done."
"Okay." She followed Carlisle to the exam room.
"Um Carlisle?"
"Yes Bella?"
"Well dad said that Edward was in Alaska."
He wondered where she was going with this. "He is."
"Was...was it my fault?" She asked.
"It was both your fault." He said.
"Damn it. I go from wanting to break up to being overly obsessed with him." She muttered.
"What?!" That surprised him.
"Edward and I weren't doing well. I watched you all and figured it out. Once I found the reason I was going to break it off with him." She admitted.
"Reason?"
"I'm not his mate, am I? I'm only his singer." She said.
"You are Indeed correct." He nodded.
"I thought so. I was going to break up with him so that he could find his mate. Plus I knew that he was in pain being near me. It was also a chance for me to find love too." She said.
"He was. So what happened afterwards?" He asked.
"I remember a friend from back in Phoenix sending me a bracelet but after that I don't remember. Dad said that I fell down the stairs and hit my head." She said.
"I didn't know that."
"I don't remember it. He did say it was on a day that you guys went camping and I had been visiting Mom. He said that yesterday I fell and when I woke up I couldn't remember anything except for what happened before my friend sent the bracelet. I was horrified with what he told me about how I was acting. I am really sorry by the way." She looked really guilty.
"I understand. A nurse will take you to go get some x-rays and an MRI while I go talk to your dad. Is that alright?" He asked.
"Yeah that's fine."
"Great."
He left and found Charlie outside. He never had a chance to speak. Charlie spoke first.
"I know about you all being vampires." He whispered.
"What?!" Carlisle looked at the sheriff in shock.
"I'm a wizard and I knew. I didn't like my baby dating Edward but in the end it was her choice and let's be honest she probably wouldn't have listened anyway and would have done it behind my back." He said.
"Okay. What about Bella?" He asked.
"She's a squib. It's why her mom left to make sure that Bella couldn't find out and get upset by it." He answered.
"So what really happened?" He asked.
"Her friend sent her a bracelet. It had a personality curse on it. It must have ended up in the non-magical world." He said.
"A what?" He asked in confusion.
"A personality curse. It makes you change personalities and usually the personality is the worst kind." He said.
"I see."
"My neighbor's friend figured it out. We reversed it. I told her that she fell down the stairs at her mom's house and yesterday she passed out and when she was conscious once more she was back to normal." He said.
"I see. I will have to fudge up some test results but I'll just say that the fall caused her brain to bleed and for some reason the blood clotted and then her brain healed." He said.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome."
"I believe that the curse may have affected Edward and Alice as well." He said.
"How?" He asked.
"Some of the curse latched onto them. It would affect them especially since they spent more time with her especially when they touched. So when Bella and…" He managed to choke out. "Your son kissed, when they hugged, cuddled, and Alice and Bella hugged."
"I see. That would explain their change in personality recently." He said.
"Yes, yes it would." He said.
"Thank you for telling me. How can I reverse it or could you?" He asked.
"Now that they're away from the bracelet and that the curse has been reversed, your children should be fine. It will start to wear off the longer they are away from the curse and since you sent your kids to their other relatives by now they should be well. At least Alice should be back to her old self." He said.
"That's good."
"It is. I'm…..I'm sorry."
"What?"
"I'm sorry for all this. I should have known that there was something wrong."
"It's not your fault."
"I should have noticed."
"How could you? You just thought your daughter was going through a rebellious teenager phase."
"But I'm a powerful wizard."
"Okay?"
"I have the ability to sense magic."
"I see."
"Despite the fact that Bella never took that bracelet off I never sensed any magic coming from it."
"Now I get it."
"Why couldn't I?"
Carlisle put a comforting hand on Charlie's shoulder. "Did you ever use your ability at home?"
"No."
"Well, do you have control over it?"
"Yes."
"So it isn't your fault. It's not like you were actively looking for danger in your own home. Your daughter is a teenager. You just figured she was going through this rebellious stage and you were hoping like all parents do that the stage would end and they realize what they were doing was wrong and they go back to being the kind, considerate, sweet person that you raised. So no it is not your fault. I'm telling you Charlie this isn't your fault this is just something that happened."
Charlie wiped his eyes. "Yeah you're right. I know you're right it's just-"
"As a parent you blame yourself for not being able to protect them."
"And no one can help with the guilt."
"Exactly. Just know that she's fine now."
"That's true."
"Well thank you for telling me."
"Of course."
They both went back to Bella's room. She was still out getting the tests done. Charlie waited while Carlisle went to go change them so that Charlie wouldn't be found out for being a wizard by Bella nor so that no one saw anything weird. Soon Charlie and Bella went home. Bella was grateful that she was now fine and wondered why the doctors her mom took her to missed it but decided to be thankful that she was fine now.
