"Bet you can't do this, ice princess!"
"Shut up, matchstick! I'm better!"
"You wanna fight?!"
"Natsu, stop fighting!"
Mirajane watched with a sigh as another guild brawl erupted for the fifteenth time today. Why on earth is her little sister so attached to that damn pyro? Of all people, why him?
She glanced to a side, spotting her brother engaging Jet and Droy in a conversation. His shy nature had prevented him from opening himself up for a long time, but he had fit himself perfectly into Fairy Tail nonetheless. This is good.
She idly raised her left arm where an amulet is being tied onto her left wrist. It is a gift from him, the person who saved them when they needed it the most. She cannot help but wonder how he is doing now. It's been about half a year since they parted. How is he? How is Wendy? Are they still trying to find a goddamn dragon? Do they even know that there really is another Dragon Slayer here? If she knew of their exact location right now she would send them a letter about it immediately.
Urgh, why is she feeling so moody all of a sudden? This isn't like her.
She stood up and stretched herself. An uneasy feeling has been pooling in her gut ever since she woke up this morning and no matter what she did she just couldn't shake it off. Maybe a fight with that tin can would help?
"Oi, tin can!"
Expectedly, the tin can's head swiveled around as soon as she heard that.
"Say that again, you skimpy whore?"
"I said-"
Whatever she said next was cut off as a blindingly bright light suddenly erupted from the amulet she wore around her left wrist, forcing her to temporarily close her eyes. She could spot a large magic circle suddenly expanding underneath her feet that isn't hers.
Shit, this doesn't look good.
The light died down just as she was about to do something to destroy that unknown magic circle. She blinked her eyes in surprise when she saw two new additions to the guild building that weren't there before.
"Wendy?"
"M-Mira?"
It's Wendy alright. The little girl quickly scrambled to her feet and ran up to her. The uneasy feeling that had been sitting in the bottom Mirajane's gut all day long suddenly grew when Mirajane spotted the look of unconcealed fear in the little girl's eyes.
"H-Help! M-Mystogan, h-he… He-!"
"What happened to him?!" Mirajane quickly knelt down and held onto the little girl's trembling shoulders. She can tell that Wendy is trying her best to not break down and cry but if something had really happened to him then she needs to know the details as soon as possible.
Wendy could not form any sort of coherent speech in her panic, only managing to pass on a letter into her hands. Mirajane quickly tore the letter open and read through it, her eyes only growing wider in fear as dread quickly flooded her body.
"Shit… Shit! Master! MASTER!"
She ran up to Master Makarov's office as fast as her legs could bring her, ignoring the stares and worried murmurs that are slowly circling around them. Elfman and Lisanna can take care of that for now, there are more pressing matters to deal with.
She slammed open the door of his office, past caring about manners or decorum right now.
"Master! P-Please! S-Someone is dying! Save him, please!"
There was very little I could remember about Mystogan's abilities from my foreknowledge.
Sleep magic, reflecting magic, mist magic, illusion magic, that was about all I could remember from whatever little fights Mystogan had fought in from the series. It wasn't explained how he obtained those powers or how he invented those magic. I knew that there would be a limit to how I can replicate his feats and abilities the moment I found out that I am now Mystogan because ultimately, I am not him. We are not the same person.
In that case, I will carve my own path. I will invent my own magic.
I had always been a fan of elemental magic, kinda like how benders bend the elements from the Avatar series. I had always liked how powerful magicians from fictional series could simultaneously attack and defend at the same time with a flick of their wand. I had always wanted to fulfil those fantasies of mine ever since I realised I could control magic even if I can never wield it like how Earthland mages could.
A swing of my stave created lightning that blasted Zancrow's flames in a massive explosion. A tap of my stave on the ground caused it to liquify and for it to move as I command, trying to trap and drag him beneath the earth into an eternal slumber. He burnt down his confinements and leapt at me, trying to kill me like how he had done to many others in this once beautiful town that was so full of life. I simply activated another brand of magic and vanished like a wispy fog, reappearing elsewhere safe from harm as I casted my next spell.
A huge torrent of water came crashing down at Zancrow right after and I followed up with a huge burst of lightning, trying my damn best to fry him alive. However, it seems that either being a God Slayer gave him a lot more durability or he is simply more tenacious than I thought. He is far from being out of the count just yet.
"Fire God's Bellow!"
"Three layered magic circle: Mirror Water!"
I barely managed to defend myself in time and quickly vanished in a dense fog to reposition myself. I called upon the earth to impale the crazy fucker with rock spikes that shot from the ground but he is faster than I gave him credit for, dodging it before I could inflict any real harm.
"Fire God's Supper!"
"Eight layered magic circle: Divine Bulwark!"
A protective dome of barrier protected me from harm before the black flames swallowed me. I used this borrowed time to cast my next spell.
The earth groaned before erupting into a furious roar, throwing everything sky high. I quickly shot rock spears at Zancrow, who used his flames to defend himself before he used his flames to propel himself towards my location.
I generated a furious hurricane that blew him away. Both of us took a brief pause to catch our breaths, sizing the other up and trying to find a weak spot that could possibly be exploited.
"I was wondering why you were taking so long. I see that you were held up by a stubborn fool."
"Shut up, Ultear. Either help me or buzz off."
"Woowee."
I grimaced when I spotted Ultear and Kain joining the battle. One kin was bad enough, and now there's three? Shit, does that mean that they are done massacring the town? What about Malcolm and Mary? Are they fine? Had they managed to escape?
"We cannot let him leave now that he has seen our faces. Let's kill him."
"What a coincidence, I feel the same." I growled back as I prepared myself for another gruelling battle. Our battle resumed on an unspoken signal.
I have no idea what Zancrow's and Kain's pasts are, but I know enough of Ultear's. That still doesn't excuse her misdeeds in my eyes. The fact is, she had killed too many in her pursuit of a perfect magic world. Some things once done cannot simply be reverted. Some things cannot be brought back even if you reversed time because it doesn't erase the fact that the acts had been committed in one timeline.
I know that back in my past life there are many who sympathised with her plight, but I cannot say the same. Not when the people who had welcomed me warmly into their town are now lying around on the streets as lifeless corpses, their bodies turning colder by the second.
And for what? For some madman's crazy scheme to create a perfect magic world? Are human lives that cheap in his eyes?
Simply thinking about it makes me furious.
I planted my staves on the ground as I invoke my widespread illusion magic, one that was inspired from canon Mystogan.
"Skyscraper."
I am not that naive to think that they would be fooled by the illusion for long, but I am certain that it is capable of buying me enough time for me to cast my next spell.
"Nine layered magic circle: Rain of holy light!"
The skies brightened as rays of magical light bombarded the area we are in, causing widespread destruction and scorching the very earth we are on. I see Kain dashing out of there with a body of heated steel, intending on braving through my assault and taking me down before I can cause more harm.
I simply used another stave to call upon the powers of the earth, softening the ground beneath him and trapping him in a swamp. Another ray of light crashed down on him with a righteous roar.
"Flash forward!"
Numerous orbs appeared around me before trying to kill me through blunt force. I simply erected another barrier around me to protect myself. Ultear and Zancrow emerged from the destruction, but not unscathed. My attack had gotten them good.
"Anima!"
I never liked using this spell but even I can appreciate how useful it is. I can see how the three kins were immediately affected from having their magic so greedily sapped away by the portal opened up by my staves, almost bringing them down to their knees.
"Fucking bastard!"
Zancrow proved to be the most tenacious out of the three, pushing through the sudden loss of magical power to punch me with a flaming fist. It worked as I was being forcibly pushed back by his attack, allowing him to buy enough time for his comrades to recover. I see infinite copies of that damn lacrima orb surrounding me with Kain diving down on me from above. They had effectively cornered me.
In that case, time to invoke my inner chuunibyou. I've been dying to replicate this ability ever since I realised I could programme magic in any way I wish for them to through the power of magical science.
"Susanoo!"
The upper half body of an armoured magical avatar roared into life as it defended me from harm. Susanoo is still an incomplete spell, but it will have to do in this case. This spell is too taxing on my already limited magical reserves stored within my staves, anymore and I would run out of juice.
My armoured avatar promptly slammed Zancrow into the ground with its shield and batted Kain away with its sword. Ultear had made a frozen garden bloom into existence upon seeing the threat Susanoo posed but I quickly shattered it with another spell. This has to end now. I cannot sustain Susanoo for long.
"Scarlet Thunderbird!"
I used my stave to form a concentrated bolt of lightning and fired it at Ultear, taking the shape of a bird that shot itself at the Time mage at neck breaking speed. Ultear barely managed to block the worst of it, but did not managed to come out of it unharmed.
"Who on earth are you?!"
"The fucking grim reaper."
I invoked a variant of Gravity magic around us, causing us to be pressed flat onto the ground and unable to move a finger. Like this, I should be able to buy enough time until I erase these scums off the face of earth.
"Shit, I can't move!"
"Me too! Goddammit! Ultear, do something!"
Ultear did try, but everytime she did her ice would either break under the gravitational pressure or her orb would crack even before it could reach me no matter how she tried restoring it with her Time magic. I simply concentrated on firing my last spell, the most powerful spell I currently have in my arsenal. I do not need to move to do so.
"Ten layered magic circle: Eye of Heaven"
The clouds above us began to swirl ominously as a bright light began to shine from within the vortex. This is an attack that combines many elements of magic into one, much like how the Etherion works. It simply is on a much smaller scale as compared to what the Magic Council has, but still enough to wipe these three out for good.
With me gone, Wendy will be raised in Fairy Tail. In seven years, Grimoire Heart will be the ones responsible for bringing about the 'deaths' of the Tenrou group, effectively killing them for seven years. I will not let that happen. I will not allow Wendy to be robbed of the time she deserves.
I will erase these three Grimoire Heart mages from this world. Consider this my final thanks and gift to Fairy Tail for taking care of Wendy in my stead.
Sorry, Wendy. It seems that I will have to break that promise. Sorry, Lily, for not being able to go back to visit you and the exceeds.
"Stop it you madman! You are going to kill yourself too! Are you crazy?!"
I grinned from underneath my mask.
"Why, yes. Yes, I am."
The light above us shone with a heavenly light. It's only been a short while since I've been able to explore this dangerously beautiful magical world but it's been fun while it lasted. I have no regrets.
"Regret and repent, may your sins be judged by the heavenly eye."
With one final smile, I casted my final spell.
The world bathed itself in a bright light.
