In Royal Woods, today Lincoln, with his sisters Luna and Leni, and best friend Clyde, were going to the Growing Lives Rehab/Day Center to see their friend, Bessie Milligan, who was visiting the place. Bessie had asked Lincoln and Clyde to come to the center, to meet Her new friend and volunteer working there.
Lincoln: (to the viewers) Oh, hi there, we're at the Growing Lives Rehab Center. Bessie had recently made a new friend who's also a volunteer worker here and called us over to come meet her.
Clyde: Yeah, I wonder who the new volunteer worker is?
Luna: We'll soon find out!
After meeting with Ms. Goldsteen, a worker of the rehab center, who told them that Bessie was in the lunchroom waiting for them, they went there. At a table, right next to Bessie and her wheelchair, was a 14-year-old blind girl with black hair who wears dark glasses, a purple long-sleeved shirt, blue jeans, and red sneakers and was holding a white cane...
Lincoln: Hello, Bessie!
Clyde: Is this your new friend?
Bessie: (nods) Yep. Everyone, this is my friend, and the rehab center's new volunteer, Janice Evanston!
Leni: Hello, Janice!
Luna: Welcome, dudette!
Janice: Hello, it's really nice to meet all of you.
Bessie: My new friend here is blind. That means she can't see the rest of us can.
Everyone felt sad for her, to which Lincoln replied, 'We're sorry to hear that, Janice.'
Janice: It's alright, Lincoln. I don't want anyone to feel sorry for me too much.
Leni: (points to the white cane Janice was holding) What is that cane for?
Janice: It's a special cane for blind people like me, Leni. If something or someone is close by. tapping it with my cane means that it's my path and I need to be careful.
Bessie: I also help her by telling her which way to go.
Clyde: Janice, how did you know you were speaking to Leni if you can't see her?
Janice: (giggles) Clyde, I use my other senses. Since I'm blind, the other senses I have are much stronger. In this case. I heard Leni clearly well in the direction I was facing.
Luna: Whoa, that Is wicked.
Lincoln: Anyway, should we all get some lunch while getting to learn more about janice?
Everyone agreed, and they went to get some chicken pot pie. In the lunch line, Lincoln, Luna, Leni, and Clyde learned more about Janice's life outside of the rehab center, with Bessie listening in. when they returned to their table, everyone weas shocked when they saw who was sitting there, mostly Lincoln, Leni, and Luna...
Lincoln, Leni, and Luna: Jojo?!
The clown girl waved at them. The loud siblings went over to Jojo, and hugged her, and she hugged them back.
Jojo: Your aunt told me you guys would be here. (she saw Clyde, Bessie, and Janice) Are those friends of yours?
Leni: Oh, totes, yes! Jojo, these are our friends Clyde and Bessie, (points to the wheelchair) and that's Bessie's friend, Janice.
Jojo: Nice to meet you all!
Bessie: Jojo, I saw you and your family on TV. You're sure liking in here in royal woods by now, right?
Jojo: Well... it's okay. I still miss Skeebo, my boyfriend, and the rest of Clowntown. But I've been doing good here, and I still talk to my friends back home
on Video Chat.
Janice: Jojo, that's what I've been through. missing my old town. when I moved to Royal Woods.
Jojo: (laughs) So, do you and Bessie live here?
Bessie: I used to for a while, until my parents could finally afford a new house that's wheelchair accessible. But I still come here from time to time to hang out, and now to help my new friend out.
Janice: I live in a house with my parents, too. I still learning to memorize where I keep stuff around.
Lincoln: Jojo, we're showing the viewers about all the different senses we have. Could you help demonstrate them?
Jojo: Of course! Now, one of the senses most people have is smell. Everyone except janice, close your eyes, and smell the food in front of you.
Everybody did what Jojo said. They all smelled the chicken pot pie.
Jojo: Alright, Lincoln, can you tell everyone here what you've just smelled.
Lincoln: Yes, it's a baked pie with chicken and vegetable, better known as chicken pot pie!
Jojo: That's correct!
Luna: That's the same thing I smelled, bro!
Clyde: He's still the man with the plan!
Jojo: Another sense that most people have is taste. Everyone take a bite of the pie, and tell me what you think of it.
Everyone had a bite of the pot pie, and after they all finished eating, revealed to Jojo what they thought of it...
Leni: Wow, scrumptious!
Bessie: Still tastes good after all this time!
Luna: Rad as ever, dudette!
Janice: I can't see the pie, but it tastes delicious!
Jojo: Very good! The next scent is hearing. Apparently, blind people like janice can hear many sounds around her that's happening, just better than us!
Janice: Yep, just like I heard where everyone else was.
Jojo: I think everyone has this sense: feeling someone touch you.
Clyde: Yeah, I don't know anyone who doesn't.
Jojo: Okay, now Janice, is it okay if I put my hand on your shoulder?
Janice: (nods) Yes, go right ahead, Jojo.
Jojo: Thanks. (puts her hand on Janice's left shoulder) Do you feel that?
Janice: Yes, I do.
Jojo: Okay, Janice, now put your hands on Bessie's shoulder.
Janice does so.
Bessie: I can feel Janice's hand touching my shoulder.
Jojo: Great. Now, Bessie, Lincoln, Leni, Luna, and Clyde, get in a circle together with Janice, and put your hands on each other's shoulders.
The group of 6 kids made a circle, and had a hand on the shoulder of the person next to them...
Jojo: Alright then, can you feel each other's touch?
Everyone nodded.
Leni: Yes.
Luna: I do.
Clyde: certainly.
Jojo: Okay, the last sense is sight. Many people have the ability to see. But as we already know, Janice doesn't. But, she can still do lots of things the sighted can do, right, Janice.
Janice: Yes. Like all of you, I can listen to music, dress fashionable for dances, with some help of course, and can even read!
She gets out the book 'Goodnight Moon.'
Leni: Wow, totes fabulous!
Lincoln: Goodnight Moon was one of my favorite books when I was younger.
Bessie: I think you have your own way of reading it?
Janice: Yep, there are small bumps in the book. As I feel each bump in there, I know what letter I'm touching. It's a reading language that blind people like me know, called Braille.
Lincoln: I know. A guy named Louis Braille had an accident to one of his eyes that eventually caused both his eyes to lose sight, so he invented a new way that him and other blind need if they couldn't see, the Braille language.
Jojo: That's right, Lincoln.
Leni: Janice, do you mind if we feel the small bumps in your book.
Janice: Not at all, Leni. Go ahead.
Everyone took a turn feeling the bumps in Janice's book, closing their eyes, and they all had different reactions...
Leni: Ooh, I can feel those bumps!
Bessie: It certainly Does feel different.
Luna: Whoa, dudette, can you actually read just by touching those bumps?
Janice: (chuckles) Yes, and I can prove it by reading 'Goodnight Moon.' Are you ready?
Everyone nodded, and Janice had read the entire book of 'Goodnight Moon' to them, touching the bumps and reading every single word. When she had finished, everyone clapped for her...
Lincoln: Great job, Janice!
Jojo: Yes, you've demonstrated to everyone here how useful Braille is for blind people.
Janice: It's my pleasure.
Bessie: Well, lunchtime's over. So, Jojo, if you like, me and Janice could show you around the rehab center.
Jojo: (smiles) Bessie, I would love to see what other rooms are in a great place like this. What things do you like to do here?
Janice put her hands on Bessie's wheelchair, and Bessie replied, with a smile, 'Come follow us and find out!'
Jojo, Clyde, Lincoln, and his sisters walked out of the lunchroom, to explore around the Growing Rehab Center. After showing the teen clown girl was the place was about, Jojo was happy that her two new friends were hanging out. She was having fun there herself, and at the end of the day, after she, Clyde, and the Louds said goodbye to Bessie and Janice, and went back home, she couldn't wait to visit the center and see them again.
