Drake and Blake fell backwards with the massive black flume of smoke that erupted in the white room. Drake immediately turned both of his hands into claws. He swung them forward in a defensive stance before he saw the strange trio of people that arrived in the center of the room.
"Who are these guys?" Blake asked.
Calista paid no attention and headed for the computer. She held a scanning machine and threw it onto the desk. It clattered next to the computer as Isabel rushed over with the costume. She held it up when Aslovee took out his sword and slashed the center of the fabric.
"Is that Bakugo's costume?" Blake asked. "What did you do to him?"
Isabel ignored them and reached between the seams of the fabric. She pulled out a wrinkled piece of auburn parchment shredded on the ends and worn in the corners. With faded ink scribbled on the page, she shoved the paper into the scanner. Calista conjured up a chair out of thin air and sat down on the wooden seat.
"Okay, that's it," Drake grabbed the back of the chair and pushed it back. "Who the helm are you people?"
"Calm down, lizard," Aslovee said. "We're trying to help."
Drake's eye twitched. "Say that again, shorty."
Aslovee grabbed the blade of his sword and prepared to stab the Alaskan dragon. However, Isabel touched his arm and let out a nervous chuckle.
"I think we all got off on the wrong foot," Isabel said as the two boy's glared at each other. "I'm Isabel. Nice to you meet you. Really nice hair, by the way. Anyway, We were sent here to stop a certain being that has threatened to wreck havoc on your world. Do you know of that?"
"Wait, so what Martel told us over the computer is real?" Blake chimes in. He leapt over to Isabel and jumped around her. "Oh my gosh, so you're from another universe? Do I exist in another universe? Oh, but Matek said this one isn't even real? So does that mean your real? Are we real?"
"Yes, you're all real," Calista typed a few more lines of code on the computer. "It's your minds stuck in this universe."
"Wow, that's so cool," Blake poked at Aslovee's face who shook him off like an annoying fly. "So we really were kidnapped! I've never been a victim in a villain's scheme before. Though, Martel said it was Bakugo that helped Edith avoid with this. Wow, does that make him a villain now. Also, where are you guys from? Your eyes are really black. I can't even see myself in them. Are you an alien?"
Drake grabbed Blake with his tail and wrapped it around him. He pulled Blake away and lifted him off the ground to keep him away from the others.
"Apologies," Drake said. "He's not very good with humans yet."
"Look, as fun as this conversation is," Calista grabbed a transparent LED visor and slipped it onto her face. "We sort of need to save your home and ours right now. Can we focus?"
Calista pressed the enter key on the computer. The paper slid into the scanner and beeped. When the file popped up on the screen, Calista dragged the file into a folder labeled "Synchronization." She opened the folder and pressed a play button on the top of the screen.
A small countdown appeared on the screen. T-minus Two Minutes.
A loud alarm balled from the computer. Then, the white metal door rumbled with steam billowing out of the closed chamber. The ground began to shake with Blake falling onto his back.
In his cell, Hawks threw a pebble at the wall. Bored, agitated, his stubble had grown into a full beard.
Then, a beep from his wrist.
He looked down at his watch. He twisted the rim of the gold and saw a hologram image grow out of the watch.
SYCHRONIZATION: 10 percent.
"Finally," Hawks said. "It begins."
He grabbed a feather from his back and pulled out a small flash drive from his pocket. He stuck it in the feather and held it by his fingertips.
"You got two minutes," Hawks said. "You can do it, baby."
He released the feather, and it sliced through the air out of his cell.
"Get ready," Calista said. She jumped to her feet as Aslovee and Isabel pulled out their own visors from their pockets.
"Hold on," Drake said. "What are you doing?"
"Synchronization," Calista said.
"What?" Drake asked, his eyes wide open from the surprise of the frantic scene before him.
Isabel plugged a cable into her visor and thrust it into the computer. "Every universe has an electrical impulse. An energy that can be felt in other universes. Think of it like a computer file. Every universe has its own code. It's own unique electrical signature."
Aslovee turned on his visor. The blue light illuminates his face. "I have a rate of fifteen percent."
"Perfect. And how many signatures?" Calista asked.
"Two so far."
"That's about right," Calista said. She scanned the computer screen and scrolled over the page on screen. "The Scroll Page is taking a while to translate, but it doesn't have to be at the exact same time as the Synch."
"But wait," Drake shouted. "What is that?"
"Okay, so like I was saying," Isabel pulled out a bar of lip balm and pressed it to her lips. "The people that sent for us, they found a way to quantify the electrical signature of every universe within five million parsecs of the Central Platform. They have every universe it's own file and code that can be accessed and entered. Sort of like a computer document."
"The universe? A computer document? I'm still confused," Blake said.
"What's the Central Platform?"
Isabel sighed. "Okay, think of a universe as your favorite tentacle hentai show. Well, you enter a streaming service app on your phone or computer. You click on what you want and you get to watch. And when you get bored, you exit and move to the next one."
"Oh, I get it," Blake said.
"Twenty five percent." Aslovee said.
"Okay," Isabel said wi the heightened anxiety. "But think about all of these shows happening at the same time. But they're all playing at different points in their timeline. Some universes are entered at the beginning of their existences. Some, like your own, are at their end. So the level of electrical power each universe has is different. Kinda like stars. When they are young, they're bright. When old, they lose energy and die. Hold this."
Isabel threw a pistol at Drake. He juggled the gun before it fell into his palms. He saw what it was and dropped it on the floor. It clattered on the ground, and Drake kicked it into the corner.
"But if we sychronize every universe to send its electrical pulses to us at the same time, then we'll have enough power to defeat Alistair and to send all of us back home at the same time!"
"Fifty percent," Aslovee said. "Universe files are beginning to synchronize to a halt."
Drake groaned and rubbed his temples. "So your basically sending electric power from other universes to this one through computers. But what happens to those universe?"
"Well, that's the thing," Isabel chuckled. "Synchronization briefly pauses the code in other universes as it sends energy to us Therefore, time will stop for a brief moment in all universes but this one."
Calista smacked her hand on the keyboard. "It's still not translating the page all the way."
Isabel turned back to Drake. "So if we don't return the electric signals within a certain time, it will overwhelm this universe and destroy it completely. And the energy won't be sent back to its home. And…well…time won't continue for anyone."
"This is insane," Drake shouted. "Why the hell would we need to do this?"
"Your universe is digital," Calista said as she frowned at the computer screen. "It's no big deal if this universe is lost. Worse case scenario, we can send the signals back to the other universes and bail from this one. If Alistair is stuck here, he'll be deleted from reality."
"But then we're deleted!" Blake said.
"Physically, your bodies would still be in your universe," Calista said. "Your conscious would be deleted, but I'm sure someone could upload a new one into your body."
Drake scoffed and flailed his arms around. "No, they can't. This is your big plan? Sacrifice all of us to stop this random guy from getting…what does he want exactly?"
"Deku's quirk. One-For-All," Aslovee faced Drake. "He's been told by his Creator that it's the only way to return him home. But The Creator has other plans with it. If he got that power…there will be no universe for anyone."
"But why this Universe!" Drake shouted. "Doesn't Deku exist in other universes? Why can't he just take it there?"
"Because you're wrong," Calista stood up and met Aslovee and Isabel in the center of the room. "The amount of energy needed to physically appear in another universe is astronomical. Moxie and Alistair's combined energy currently is enough, but barely enough. "They could only survive for a few minutes before being erased from the universe's code. It's why we only can only appear in this digital world you've been trapped in. And if anyone attempts to live in a universe they don't belong, then-."
The ground rumbled with the vibration of a major earthquake. Drake and Blake fell to the ground. The other three stumbled but remained standing. Aslovee's eyes narrowed with resolve as he read the ticker in his headset go higher and higher.
"One hundred percent!" He shouted.
A large explosion screamed in the closed room next door. A bright flash bore out of the cracks around the frame, and the entire room drowned in a white sheen that blinded Drake. He saw nothing but the ivory screen pressed onto his face. Heat slapped his face with beads of sweat suddenly plastered around his shoulders and face. For once, Drake felt his body was hot.
He felt his back hit the ground, and his arms flailed out on both sides. His ears filled with a deafening ringing that made him only notice his harsh breathing and the ruffle of his skin on his shirt.
In the time he sat there, he meditated on his own place in reality. He thought Martel was simply malfunctioning (being technically a robot last time he checked). Having the theory of them being in a fake, digital world made his heart wrench. How could he not have figured this out before? Even with the hints and puzzles he solved, he should have known something sooner. It made him feel that he failed his classmates, but also his family. The guilt he felt over his grandfather still overwhelmed him. His parents had forgiven him, but he felt that internally they still held some resentment against him. Where they even looking for him? Would anybody find them? Even if they got out, they would still be at the mercy of their captors. Would anyone care about some random kids that disappeared?
He heard the harsh breathing from Blake as his vision came back to him. He sat up in a ginger daze and saw the other people in the room seated.
"Everyone alright?" Calista asked.
"Super," Aslovee said. He clicked on a button on the side of his eyeshield. The light around the frames were a bright neon green. "We have full synchronization. The only universe currently functioning is our own."
"So no help from any random cameo appearances," Calista said. "Great."
An eerie silence fell on the room. Drake twisted his neck towards the locked chamber to find a warm, loving golden glow sparkling from the doorframe of the chamber. Drake stood up and stared at the door. A strange sensation ran goosebumps over his arms as his mouth agape with every step he took for the door.
"Drake," Calista said. "You can't go in there."
The others simply watched as Drake approached the door. What lay behind it both excited and terrified him. Nobody said a word as his golden eyes shined before the shimmering door. He breathed heavy through his nose, a strange scent of caramel wafting into his nose.
"Drake," Isabel said. "It's still locked."
His arm stretched towards the door. His eyes narrowed as he felt the warmth from the door. His fingertips hovered over the metallic surface.
Knock. Knock.
Drake whipped around on his feet. Behind him, the marble wall behind the group slid open.
From the bookshelf opening, Megan poked her head into the opening. "Oh, thank God. You're all here," she said and then turned around. "Alright, everyone. This is our stop!"
Through the hole, the rest of the Class crawled inside. Hunter crawled and hung onto a web he spun in the corner to leave space for the others in the small room. Anton dragged in Robyn's unconscious body through the gap, her forehead smacking into the bookshelf. Leo rolled in shivering and hid himself behind Megan, occasionally peeking over her shoulder to see the ray of the room.
Martel flew in laying flat on his back on a hover board. He stalled it mid-air and rolled off it. He stood next to Megan as the wall slid shut behind them with a hydraulic push.
"How did you all get here?" Drake asked.
"You solved the puzzle, Drake," Isabel grinned at him. "You found this place with the clues sent from the real world."
"I suspected when Moxie told me of certain apparitions that something was amiss," Martel said. "I was able to reach Abel in the Central Platform and learned from him and Calista of what was happening. So I spent the next few hours combing through mainframe after mainframe for the location to the exit point. But when you turned on your computer, it connected to the Central Platform's intranet and I saw it right away. Beep boop."
"The Central Platform?" Drake asked.
"Our headquarters. It's a place not of any universe. A place not bound to any code or laws," Calista said. "If you hadn't found the exit point, we would have had no choice but to end this universe with you all in it. You're a smart person, Mister Kaiset," Calista finished with a tight smile.
"Yeah, smart," Isabel said. "And really talented with your quirk."
Both of the girls gazed at Drake with looks of admiration. Drake, for once, felt a strange blush around his cheeks.
"Uh…great. So what do we do now?" Drake asked.
"Oh, right," Calista shook her head. "So, where is Alistair?"
"My universe," Aslovee said. He flashed a cell phone and showed it to Calista. They saw a video of Alistair and Moxie. However, they weren't fighting as expected. Instead, they were seated and appeared to be talking in a bubble.
"What are they doing?" Calista asked. "Ugh, whatever. Isabel, is the Salton Sea Scroll Page translated?"
Isabel glanced at the screen. "It is, but it's still in some weird ancient language."
Calista groaned and pulled at the braid in her hair. "We need that to beat Alistair! How are we going to know what to do?"
"Look, can't we just shoot him with the giant laser thing?" Blake asked. "I bet it would vaporize him or something."
"And how do you expect us to shoot this laser anywhere?" Calista asked. "Just plug in a few coordinates and press enter?"
"Yeah," Blake said. "I thought it was that simple!"
"Maybe push someone in there and and make them really powerful?" Megan asked. "Then they can kill this wanker?"
"That would vaporize a person immediately," Calista rolled her eyes. "This power isn't ours to harness or utilize in that way. Unless you're like the chosen one or something."
Megan gasped. She remembered the visions Anton told her about and then turned towards the boy. "The chosen one! Anton, this is your chance!"
Anton took a step back and held his hands out. "Wha-? No way. I'm not getting in the death ray."
"I vote Anton," Hunter said. "He's got that Pathogen guy that can heal him."
Anton backed himself into a corner as his fellow students circled around him. He started to perspire with his shoulders shrinking down. "Wait, Pathogen doesn't even help me like that. In fact, he doesn't help me at all!"
Excuse you!
"We don't have much time," Blake said. "You must be our sacrifice!"
"Sacrifice! Sacrifice!" The rest of the class sans Drake chanted. They grabbed Anton with Hunter binding a web around the boy to stop him from struggling. They carried him towards the door. Anton screamed with the other students ushering him to his impending doom.
"Okay, hold up," Calista stood by the door and halted them. "Why is Anton the chosen one?"
"The vision," Megan said. "He said he had a vision of the Sea Scrolls."
Aslovee blinked and approached the mob. "Wait. Like being in the desert and walking towards a shack."
"Yes," Anton shouted. "Exactly like that!"
"That's the same vision I had," Isabel said. "And I went in the shack."
"Me, too," Calista added. Then, she smacked her head. "Of course. How could we not have figured that out sooner!"
"Figure what out?" Anton asked.
"You can read the Salton Sea Scroll page!" Calista said. "Me, Isabel, and Aslovee had the same vision you did. And we were able to read one page each of the sea scroll that came into our own universes."
"I found my page during Yurio's skate at the Grand Prix final in Detroit," Isabel said.
"My page was held within a strange ring that belonged to a werewolf," Calista said.
"My page was in a dead Tribute I sliced open," Aslovee said in a deadpan tone.
"Basically, the same thing as the other two," Isabel shrugged.
The mob set Anton down. Hunter cut off the webs around him. The boy stretched his thin arms and frowned at the class behind him. "Some classmates you are," he grumbled.
"The four of us had the same vision," Isabel said. "So maybe you can actually read them for yourself?"
Anton looked over at the computer. A page of the old Sea Scroll beamed on the computer. A bunch of strange markings covered the page.
Hey boss, can you move closer so I can read that?
Anton frowned. He pushed past Isabel and Aslovee and planted himself right in front of the computer.
"What do you see, Pathogen?"
I-I…Uh…I think I know this language. Yes, I remember talking to a Cyanobacteria in this language a few thousand years ago.
"Thousand years ago?" Anton asked. "Pathogen, what are you talking about?"
Yeah, we had a great time together! Her mother was pretty lame, though. Made her leave me for some virus. They don't even have nucleuses!
"What?" Anton gaped. "Pathogen, I thought you were apart of my quirk!"
I'm not a quirk, Anton. I'm a pathogen thousand of years old. Remember when you ate that week old lasagna when you were four? That's when I infected you.
"Infected?"
Yeah, I was gonna kill you, but that pizza at Uncle Anthony's down the street was too good. So I decided you would make a perfect host body.
Anton stood up straight with his heart in his throat. He turned back and looked at the rest of the group.
"You mean you only liked me for my uncle's pizza?"
Well, you're no All Might, Anton.
"Anton, focus," Calista said. "What is wrong with you."
Anton scanned the room at the variety of eyes bearing down on him like a piece of meat. As much as he just wanted to go home and bundle himself up in bed, he felt the warmth of the energy enclosed in the room behind him. Then, he stared at Robyn's limp body on the ground by Hunter's shoes. While the real world hadn't been kind to him, he knew being held prisoner was the last thing his class wanted.
"So none of this is real," Anton said. "We've been stuck in some dream or fake world?"
"Not fake," Isabel said. "Digital. What happens here still impacts reality."
"But all of our realities," Calista approached Anton. "And currently, time has stopped in every universe but ours. It's our chance to defeat the one causing havoc on our worlds. And it's a chance to get you all back home."
"I don't have anything back home," Anton said. "Why should I help you all? You know what's back home in Hell's Kitchen? My shorty apartment and my shitty brother who bullies me everyday. And some annoying voice that keeps bugging me about eating junk food everyday! Why should I go back to all of that?"
Calista sighed and gestured at the room around him. "Because it's real, Anton. And reality is more important than a fantasy. Even a good one. And…if we don't do this, then none of us have a reality. And your life, all of our lives, they're all a small piece of the fabric of reality that the universe can't live without. Whether you believe it or not, that's the literal truth."
"Didn't you just you'd 'bail' on this universe if we couldn't find the exit point?" Drake asked.
"Quiet," Calista hushed Drake and turned back towards the green boy. "Please. Give us a chance."
Anton stared deep into Calista'a blue eyes. He peeked over her shoulder at the rest of his class. Megan nodded at him. He stayed in his spot and crossed his arms.
"My Pathogen," Anton said. "He knows the language of the scrolls."
James elbowed Lloyd in the hip, his face scrunched up to the red head with his hair poking at his purple eyes. The wind blew through his head and whistled in his one open ear. The other was crushed between his face and Lloyd. "Stop squeezing up to me. I'm gonna suffocate!"
"Your arm is pressed onto my leg," Lloyd said as he wiggled in between James and Izuku's body.
Izuku, wearing his hero uniform, had James and Lloyd under one arm and pulled the further into his tight grasp. On the other side, Katsu frowned at the two fighting on the other side of Deku. Abel, meanwhile, had his arms out and whistled as the group flew through the air from the momentum of Deku's quirk lifting them through the cirrus cotton clouds of middle California.
"Stop complaining," Katsu shouted at James. "Deku is trying to save us so we can reach the exit point on time."
"We're free!" Abel cheered. "Free falling!"
"Can all of you get a grip?" Deku shouted. "It's hard enough carrying four teenagers through the air to Los Angeles. You're bickering is making my head hurt."
"Well, your head should be hurting from Bakugo trying to kill us," James said. "I thought you'd at least know what he was up to."
"I did!" Izuku said. "I mean, I thought I did."
Izuku blinked and lowered his gaze to the ground racing past them. They cast a minuscule shadow over the rolling green hills waving in the bright sun and soft breeze tickling the icy surfaces of the vineyards and farmland. The world around him felt so real. How could he have not figured it out sooner? He didn't even realize that time had skipped from the Sports Festival to Christmas until Martel brought it up. He had been so caught up in trying to be a good teacher and find a bus for their class trip, he didn't even stop to think of where Bakugo was or why he was doing what he did.
How did they even enter this world to begin with? Did Bakugo and Edith really capture and force them into this virtual reality? And what was happening in the real world? Did anyone notice the number one hero was missing? What if some villain had risen to crest havoc? What if someone had escaped from prison and started attacking his classmates? What if he was about to be slaughtered in his defenseless state in the real world? And what about the kids? Would his students or their parents be angry with him. Would they try to sue? And also-.
"Stop muttering!" James yelled. "God, why does everyone in this school talk so much."
Izuku blew out a long breath. "Sorry, I just…I failed you kids. I was supposed to protect you, but I put you in more danger."
"Don't worry, Profess," Abel said. "We're still wrapped around your finger."
"Yeah, nobody's perfect," Katsu said. "And once we get out of here, you can actually teach us in a school."
"Perhaps we have been brought here for a higher purpose," Lloyd said. "To assist Deku in ending a threat far greater than he has faced before."
"Shut up," James yelled. "Deku doesn't need your help!"
Izuku smiled. He scrunched the students within his reach closer to him. They moaned in pain with their lungs collapsing from the weight. "Thanks. I promise I'll make it up to you with less homework."
"Less homework?" James scoffed. "I was hoping a pizza day or maybe-."
A bright eruption blinded the students and Izuku. From above, it was like the sun exploded just feet above them. The air around them sucked up into a brief vacuum split into the fabric of the sky and then pushed downward with a harsh wind ripping at Izuku's face.
Two bodies slammed down onto Izuku. He cried out and felt the lift from his quirk give way before he twisted and tumbled downward like a plummeting plane. He hung on for dear life to his students, their screams drowned out by the air they crashed through falling down the sky.
The world spun with the speed of a corkscrewing roller coaster. All Izuku could see was a large tan building right by the edge of a seaside cliff looming larger and larger with every inch they traversed. Izuku grunted and tightened his grip around the others. The other two bodies gripped at his hair and rugged at his face, clawing at each other's hands like they were fighting for the controls of a joystick video game.
Almost at the roof of the building, Izuku rolled himself forward and closed his eyes. He took a finger and curled it up onto his thumb. He with a harsh roar, he flicked the finger with all of his night down at the roof.
The green lightning bounced onto the roof and cracked the top of the concrete like an egg. The crack split and broke the surface with the momentum slowing the crashing group down before they impacted the structure. The ball of bodies blazed into the building and sunk through the floors and ceilings like a hot knife chopping through a tub of butter. The concrete popped and buckled before groaning into pieces. They broke through every floor with furniture and carpet breaking through Izuku's back demolishing through the ground.
One final slam, and the group lay on the floor of a grey-walled room. Flecks of dirt and concrete fell upon Izuku's chest with dust coating the entire area. Izuku, now covered in white powder, lifted his head up and scanned the rest of the group.
Abel and Katsu rolled on the floor holding their stomachs. Katsu closed with the impact of the crash channeling energy into his body that made it vibrate.
"Oh, I absorbed too much energy," Katsu said.
"I think I broke my taint," Abel cried out.
Izuku turned towards James and Lloyd. They both tried to sit up and rubbed dust from their eyes.
"Are you okay," Lloyd asked James.
"No, you dumb manatee."
Izuku brushed away the debris from his thighs and stood up. He looked around at the room. A normal room with a grey wardrobe and a punching bag hanging in the corner. At the bed was a window that showcased the rest of the school's campus obscured by the bare shoulder of Austin who sat next to Synaes covered up by the lavender comforter over the bed. Behind it was a mirror that cracked and littered glass on the pillowcases th-.
Wait. Austin. And Synaes?
"Austin," Izuku asked. Then, his face bore into a full on blush. "Synaes? What are you two doing here?"
"Professor Deku," Austin said now as red as ketchup. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm trying to stop all of us from being erased from existence," Izuku shouted. "Wh-what are you two-you aren't…?"
"No! We aren't doing anything!" Austin said. Synaes side and adjusted her black sunglasses over her sloped nose. "I just lost my clothes and I thought they were here. In Synaes'…bed."
Abel popped up at the voice and lowered his sunglasses to make sure he was seeing things correctly. "Austin! It's me, Abel!"
Just then, the memories flowed back into Austin's head. The loud and annoying metal head that did nothing but shout and not take anything seriously. How could he have possibly forgotten him? This was that weird guy that was by his side since the first day at this school. All of the times he spent with Abel crashed into him like a broken dam flooding a valley.
"Abel," Austin said. "Yes, Abel. I remember you now. I knew I was forgetting something."
"I'm so glad to see you again," Abel said before his face fell at the mane of grey hair next to him. "Uh…Synaes?"
"Oh, it is you," Synaes said. "I was wondering why things were so calm around here for once."
"Synaes? Austin? Why are you in Austin's bed together?" Abel blinked in rapid succession.
"Austin, are you engaging in illicit sexual activities," Lloyd shouted. "You can be expelled for that and catch multiple diseases!
"No. We weren't doing nothing!" Austin covered up his body further.
"Yeah, cause we already did it," Synaes added.
"You're not helping," Austin whispered.
"Mister Deku," Lloyd screamed as he pointed at the couple in bed.
"A-Austin," Izuku squeaked out.
"Synaes?" Katsu asked.
"Austin!" Abel shouted.
"Abel!" Austin returned.
"Moxie?" James asked.
"James!" Moxie squealed.
"Deku?" Alistair said.
Moxie leapt from the corner of the room into James' arms. She hugged him as tight as the boa constrictor swimming on a tree branch in the snake case on Austin's desk.
"James, I thought you were dead!" Moxie laughed into James ear.
They boy flashed a small grin and rubbed Moxie's back. "I was, but that magic that asshat shot me with, it didn't kill me. It sent me somewhere else. Like-wait, that's him!"
James let go off Moxie as Alistair threw off a door that had fallen into the room and obscured him from sight. His eyes bore on Izuku who sat in the center of the room.
"You tried to kill me, you dumb chameleon," James balled up his fists in neon orbs and shot to his feet.
"And I'll do it again, you weird highlighter," Alistair glared with an evil smirk. He held out his wand and jabbed it right at James.
Moxie, seeing him distracted, grabbed a metal pipe and flung it at Alistair. The pipe rang off Alsitair's head and made him collapse onto the door propped in the room. It crushed under his weight and splintered into hundreds of wooden pieces.
"Mister Deku," Moxie yelled. "Get on outta here!"
Alistair leapt back to his feet. He shook his head to right himself before he held his wand out. An invisible force grabbed a hold of Moxie and lifted her up. She grabbed onto her throat with her legs dangling in mid-air. Alistair laughed as she choked out before him.
"No you don't, fuckface," James yelled. He thrust both his hands forward and pushed a wall of neon at Alistair. The boy flew back and smashed through the wall into the hallway of the boy's dormitory. He fell onto his back and struggled to get up.
"Forget Alistair! We need to get away from him and to the exit point or we're all dead," Deku shouted at his students.
"The exit point?" Austin whined. "What is this? Who is that guy?"
"You missed out on a lot, Austin," Abel said. "And apparently…I did, too," he said examining his friend and Synaes in bed.
"James, I missed you," Moxie faced the boy. "You died and then I was really sad. But then, this weird voice came up to me and then this crystal started glowing and I've felt a whole bunch of power in alone and-."
"Moxie, slow down," James chuckled. "You're speaking like your on cocaine."
"I guess I'm just saying," Moxie said. "That I've been fighting this boy ever since to avenge you."
"Avenge me?" James smirked. He stroked Moxie's cheek and ran a soft finger down the side of her face. "God, you're beautiful. I like the red eyes, by the way."
Moxie pulled a hand through her hair. "James, we need to focus. Y'all need to get out of here before-."
Alistair grunted and rose back to his feet. He stumbled forward and held his wand loose in his hand.
"Do you all really think you can escape me," Alistair monologued in a low voice. "Do t you realize what destiny is? Dying for a better cause! You heroes live your whole existences without knowing the sacrifice needed to better others. Instead, you destroy and-."
As he droned on, Abel looked down at Katsu groaning in pain on the ground. He vibrated like an old cell phone with a strange golden glow emanating from his body.
"You alright, SpongeBob?"
"I have too much energy," Katsu whispered. "If I don't expel it, I'll explode!"
Abel looked over at Alistair. "Blah blah blah blah blah. Evil villain stuff. Monologue about death and morality."
At least, that's what Abel heard.
"I got it," Abel said! He reached down and pulled Katsu up by the arm. He dragged him to Moxie and stood him up like an inflatable dummy in a car lot.
"Moxie-bae," Abel said. "Punch Katsu in the face."
"What?" Katsu said. "No, Abel! This is a bad idea!
"Huh?" Moxie asked.
"Katsu has so much energy, he'll explode," Abel said. "We can knock Alistair out and get away from him!"
"Excuse you," Alistair waved. "I'm in the middle of my monologue!"
Moxie nodded. "Great idea!"
Katsu cried out. "No, Moxie! I have too much energy! It's too mu-."
"That's it," Alistair rushed for the room. "Time to die, Deku!"
Moxie, with Alistair rigght at the precipice of the room, punched Katsu in the face.
And then, nothing but white.
The rumble shook everybody in the room. A few pebbles rained down from the ceiling with cracks running over the thick marble in the ground. Everybody looked up and saw the lights flicker for just a second.
"What was that?" Megan asked.
"It doesn't matter right now," Calista said. "Anton, have you finished."
"Yes," Anton said. "Pathogen, what does it say?"
Alright, but you have to repeat me word for word.
"Okay. I trust you Pathogen."
As Pathogen read through the text, Anton closed his eyes and spoke to the room.
Square Visions control the light.
All Virtue to vanquish sin.
One harnesses all.
Ascendo Tuum.
Anton opens his eyes. The entire room turned to each other. Odd glances bounced off Anton and around the cracked marble walls.
"Is that it?" Calista asked.
"Shouldn't you tell us?" Anton said. "Shouldn't you know what that means."
"No," Aslovee grumbled. "That's like a riddle or something."
"All the other pages were pretty technical," Isabel said. "Plug the red wire here. Download this VPN. Pretty technical."
A long pause in the room. The rumble of the light in the chamber filled the room along with the computer's occasional beeps.
"What the fuck does that mean?" Hunter said.
