She couldn't believe she was here, to be trapped in such an unfortunate and life changing situation.
But here they were, no matter what happened nothing would be the same for Lucy and there was a real possibility that soon there could be one less dragon in the world and that was not something she was ok with.
"Natsu! Please Natsu, please don't do this you know what could happen, I just couldn't...I just couldn't bear...if that happened because of me..." Lucy was pleading with Natsu, voice breaking trying to hold back the tears burning her eyes.
"Lucy, I told ya not to worry right?" Natsu threw her one of his huge grins and some of her fear melted away, but a stray tear escaped and trailed down her cheek. "Geez Luce, it's like you've got no faith in me, I can totally take this guy" he rolled his eyes dramatically at her and with that she couldn't contain a choked laugh between the dry sobs and quickly swiped the tear off her cheek. Of course he would be totally full of confidence, this was Natsu after all he didn't know how to back down from a fight. But still...she was used to him fighting for others and fighting to save the guild and their teammates and on occasion to save her from a foe...but never had he faced a fight like this, he'd never had to fight for her not like this she wasn't in imminent danger per say after all
"Yeah Lucy, sheesh have some faith in Natsu would ya!" Happy came to land on her head cheering on Natsu loudly from his position "You got this Natsu!!"
"Well, no point in prolonging this wait...you two bone heads ready?" Gajeel had stepped between them now.
Natsu's focus went from Lucy back to his opponent the smile he'd put on to reassure Lucy dropped as he set his fist on fire. "I don't know about him but I'm all fired up!" As if to reiterate his point he set his whole body on fire, flames raging all around him.
"Yeah I'm ready to take down the flame brain" lightning cracked around Laxus as he turned to face Lucy "then Blondie no one will be left to save you, and you will have to submit to my every whim. I will finish what I started, I will make you mine" he growled possessively at Lucy. She couldn't help but look at his eyes, even though she couldn't see his pupils anymore, his eyes were caverns of black aside from the crackles of lightning zipping around them, it was like she was drawn to look at them she just couldn't stop herself. As she looked in his eyes she just wanted to walk up to him, everything in her mind screaming no as her whole body screamed yes an internal battle happening for the young mage.
Lucy didn't realise she was shaking until she felt Happy gently stroking her hair and telling her to calm down. The blue cat succeeded in grounding her back to the moment, grounding her faith in Natsu. She couldn't quite banish the thought of hatred for that bite though - if it wasn't for the damn bite none of them would be in this situation right now, but with Happy bringing her back she shook her head managing to beak the link Laxus' eyes had on her.
"Well then, you know the rules, 2 dragons in, only 1 dragon may rise the victor. Laxus you have accepted this challenge, you may only rise the victor or to the dragon death, Natsu you are the challenger and as such you may withdraw shou..". "AIN'T NO WAY IN HELL I'M BACKING OUT" Natsu cut through Gajeel, glowering at Laxus.
Gajeel for his part looked as on edge about this situation as Lucy did, but with one last hard glare at Natsu he seemed to resign himself "If you insist Salamander, a fight to dragon death for both sides. May the best dragon win!" And with that Gajeel leapt out of the way and the battle began. Lucy turned to watch them, she could feel that damn bite tingling on the side of her neck, she mentally scolded herself for letting this situation occur...if only she was stronger, it would never have happened to Erza or Mira
