Stolen Intelligence
Stret placed the prototype into the machine that would test its efficiency as the first test and then closed the shield over it so any explosions would be contained. The engineer plugged the device into the testing machine before turning back to the controls. Stret watched from behind the safety glass standing next to Master Dalliqui.
"I hope you know not to be deterred if your Hyperdrive doesn't pass this test Padawan Haemin," the Jedi Master pointed out, "Hyperdrives, after all, are unpredictable pieces of engineering and have to go through hundreds of tests before the first field test," he added.
"Don't worry Master I've read the statistics," Stret answered.
"Of course, I should expect nothing less from one of Master Windu's Padawans," Master Dalliqui stated in an almost obvious tone.
Stret watched eagerly as the test was being done and was surprised already by how well the prototype was going in this test. However, as his hopes became heightened they soon plummeted as one of the plugs exploded out of the Hyperdrive and the test abruptly ended. The Jedi Master walked around the glass and approached the testing machine to investigate what the problem had been.
"What happened?" Stret asked curiously as he also approached the machine after getting over the slight shock.
"I'm not sure but if I was to have a guess it was the Hyperspace field expanders," Master Dalliqui answered, "I am guessing that they are a crucial part of your design."
"Yes, the idea I have is that smaller ships can go through Hyperspace at the same time similar to how the Republic Fleet Starships do it," Stret explained.
"Well those parts need plenty of room inside a Hyperdrive which is why starship Hyperdrives are so large," Master Dalliqui said as he handed Stret the prototype, "That is a really good idea but this device will need to be bigger to support all those parts and components. Keep up the good work and I'm sure that one day you will achieve what you are set out to accomplish."
"Thank you Master Dalliqui," Stret thanked him politely as he accepted the broken prototype and bowed slightly in respect before leaving the building.
Stret came running into the mess hall in excitement and sat down with his friends after he hastily grabbed some food. Everyone was watching him silently, waiting for their friend to reveal to them what he was so excited about.
"Care to share what has you so excited, Stret?" Gav requested, breaking the silence.
"I just finished a test for the prototype," Stret answered.
"Really how did it go?" Jania asked eagerly.
"The prototype blew up," Stret revealed which caused everyone to have surprised expressions on their faces as to why Stret was excited about that, "Don't worry though, I know exactly what went wrong. Master Dalliqui explained it to me-," then he continued to rattle on about where he had gone wrong. Most of his friends tuned out his voice while only Jania listened intently to what Stret was saying because she didn't want to be rude by ignoring him while he rattled on about how Hyperdrives work.
"So, when does construction of the next prototype start, Stret?" Serin asked as he was starting to get a slight headache.
"Right after I finish lunch," Stret answered as he decided to stop talking and eat his food as quickly as he could without being impolite.
Meanwhile across the Galaxy, Bossk answered the holo terminal to find the Empress at the other end, no doubt wanting to give them a mission or target.
"My lord," Bossk greeted and then waited silently for further orders and instructions.
"There is a Galactic Republic Senator travelling to Alderaan, I want you to intercept the ship and take the datapad that is in their possession. It holds important intelligence that I can use to cripple the Republic from the inside," Jaira ordered going straight to the point of her call.
"Very well my lord," Bossk confirmed that he will do exactly that.
A few hours later found the Bounty Hunter crew on board the Slave I waiting above Alderaan for the Senator's ship to come out of Hyperspace, it was risky doing it so close to the planet that would send aid as soon as the Bounty Hunters boarded the ship. Which meant they needed to be gone in a matter of moments but they were confident that their mission would end successfully. The Empress had made it clear to only take the datapad that held the information and if necessary kill anyone who got in their way.
"There is a ship coming out of Hyperspace," Boba said as he looked at the scanner screens. Then a few moments later a sleek ship appeared nearby and Bossk jumped on the controls of the ship, speeding towards it. Aura controlled the guns and fired a rain of heavy blaster fire at the ship which managed to hit the engines. The Slave One docked with the ship and the Bounty Hunter's ran through the bridge between the two ships. Blaster fire went everywhere and the ship filled with yelling as the group of boarders ran through the ship's corridors, shooting everyone dead. They got to the passenger lounge where Senator Mon Mothma sat in her high back seat with her handmaidens standing beside her.
"How dare you attack a ship of a Galactic Republic Senator," Mothma scowled, "I am on a diplomatic mission to Alderaan and there will be reinforcements here soon," she threatened.
"We don't care about any of that, we just came to get this," Boba stated simply as he picked up the case which held their target. The Bounty Hunters then turned around and ran back through the ship to the Slave I.
"Bossk get ready to get out of here!" Aura yelled urgently through the intercom. Soon the group was back on their ship, which quickly detached from the Senator's ship and then into Hyperspace on the way to the location which Jaira had given them.
Republic SIS Agent Misa Highrock walked through the hallways of the headquarters on Coruscant. She was on her way to the office of her superior to report the grave message she had received from Alderaan. Misa had jet black hair that came down past her shoulders, sharp hazel eyes and a slight build that came in handy more times than she could count. She had been an SIS Agent for about five years now and knew her way around what was required for the job.
"Agent," Corr Dalledos greeted her when she entered his office, "What have you got to report?"
Corr Dalledos was a retired SIS Agent who had worked during the Clone Wars and was now the Director for the Agency. His preened appearance was something that he prized as it showed the status that he held in his job. Corr's hair was getting thinner and greyer every day but his eyes were as dark brown as they always had been.
"I have just received a message from Alderaan that I think is in connection to the group of Bounty Hunters whose actions I have been tracking. A group of Bounty Hunters attacked the ship of Senator Mon Mothma and stole a datapad that holds vital Republic information," Misa informed tightly.
"And you are sure that this is the same group?" Corr asked seriously.
"I am positive," Misa confirmed without a single bit of doubt.
"I will contact the Jedi Council and organise a time for us to meet with them," Corr said as he turned to his holo terminal to do exactly that.
After a few moments of the holo terminal beeping, a holoimage of Master Yoda appeared and he greeted pleasantly, "Director Dalledos."
"Master Yoda, I would like to request a time when I can come and talk to the Jedi Council about something that has recently happened which is of the utmost importance," the Director requested.
"Welcome you are to join the Council in session this afternoon," Master Yoda informed him.
"Of course, Master Yoda I will be there promptly at 1700 hours," Corr informed the Jedi Mater who nodded and then the call was cut. The Director turned back around to face Agent Highrock, "Make yourself available for the meeting," he ordered.
Misa nodded curtly, "Of course sir," she responded before leaving the office and going back to her own office to do more investigation on the problem.
A/N: What do you guys think could be on that datapad?
Ashlyn Dubreas.
